People doing drugs to the point that the smell permeated into our room. We complained, and asked to be moved. They said they couldn't move us because other rooms available were more expensive and security didn't do anything. We checked out at 10pm to get another hotel and were denied a refund for that night. Stay at your own risk. If they had refunded our last night, in which we didn't even stay, then I wouldn't have to leave this review. :( read more

Do not stay here. Our computer was stolen from inside the room while my husband was out to dinner. The hotel manager was extremely rude, dismissive, suggested that my husband left the door open (not very possible to do) and a transient snuck in. What bothered me most is the manager was not surprised at all by the incident and not remorseful - a red flag that this has happened before and that something weird is happening at this hotel where this is acceptable and unsurprising behavior. My husband stayed a week and we planned to come back together. But your belongings are not safe here. We filed a police report and warning everyone to stay away. read more

I don't like writing negative reviews. Everyone makes mistakes. There are real problems in the world. But this was a solvable problem that was willfully ignored and it's just not right. The short version: upon arriving at the Hotel Ballard on a dark, cold and rainy Christmas evening, we were told they had mistakenly cancelled our three night reservation, were completely sold out for those nights and gave us the option to stay at their "Inn" down the street instead. Alicia (Ally) Lewis, the Hotel General Manager was consulted for other options by her front desk staff and on Christmas Day, as a professional in the hospitality business, Alicia showed zero inclination toward actual hospitality or customer care or empathy or basic humanity, or to their own written cancellation policy and refused to put us up at a comparable Hotel, as their cancellation policy clearly promises. At 5:00 PM on Christmas night we were left in the rain with no reasonable place to stay. Don't stay here. Save yourself a ton of aggravation and just don't. There are a lot of really good AirBnB's in the area. You have options. The details: We are in Ballard frequently and have always been captivated by this lovely little Hotel on Ballard Avenue. I read the decidedly mixed reviews that repeatedly and clearly stated the staff doesn't care about their guests but figured we only wanted a nice place to sleep, access to the health club next door and to be in the neighborhood. How bad could it be? This is how bad: A mistake was made. They cancelled the reservation. Stuff happens. It's an easy fix. You express some kind of remorse (Maya, the front desk person did say she saw exactly what happened, apologized but needed Ally's permission to offer anything comparable. Ally wouldn't allow that). Instead, we were walked over to the "Inn" which is in fact a hostel, walked past the boarded up plexiglass sliding window that used to be for check-in and is now unstaffed and up to the second floor. (There is no staff at this place. There is a key fob, that is the extent of the security. There is no elevator). We were shown a smelly, fleabag room. (That's not fair. I didn't actually check for fleas. Also, to be totally truthful, we were shown two smelly, fleabag rooms.) Both had a bathroom. That was their selling point. "We'll put you in a room with a bathroom." Other rooms shared bathrooms. This was not a viable option. Nor was it a comparable hotel. They provided no other option. We were literally left in the dark and the rain. (Did I mention this was on Christmas?) Because we were in the neighborhood, I stopped by the hotel the next day and talked with Daniel. Told him what happened. To his credit he was aghast and promised to talk to a manager about it, took my phone number and email address and wow! Justice would be done. Except even after calling Daniel the following evening for follow-up, I've heard nothing. From anyone. For reference, this is the cancellation policy as written on their website: *In the unlikely event any a guaranteed reservation cannot be accommodated by the Hotel, the Hotel will provide the following: Accommodations at a comparable Hotel as close as reasonably possible at no charge to the guest for the first night the guest is displaced from the Hotel." That's what I was asking for. I was in the lobby searching for other hotels but they wouldn't cover the cost. When I was refused, I went to AirBnB and expected Hotel Ballard to cover the first night there. Actually, at this point, I don't care about the money. I just don't want anyone else to get caught up in their bad management. What I was hoping would be the start of a great relationship with a local hotel that we would stay at frequently turned into a lesson in just how badly a hotel can treat their guests. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a better experience. Hopefully somewhere other than Hotel Ballard. See ya. In 2015 my mom gave my wife and I a $300 gift card for our anniversary. In 2019 I called to use the gift card to make a reservation, as I noticed an expiration date of 2016 had been handwritten on the card, and talked to a staff member named Mary, who assured us the gift card would be accepted and would not expire. However, due to our schedule we were unable to use the gift card until this last weekend. On the morning of our stay, this Saturday, I called the hotel to ask about record keeping for gift cards, as I believed I had misplaced the physical item. The staff member I talked to was exceptionally helpful and said they would look into it. I began a search through my office and found the card about five minutes later and called the hotel back to let them know I had found it. While I was on the phone, I asked the staff member I was talking to if they could confirm, just to double check, that the gift card would be honored. That staff member assured me that it would be, and even mentioned that it's against the law for gift cards to expire in Washington State. I confirmed this myself on the Washington State Attorney General's website. (https://www.atg.wa.gov/all-consuming-blog/gift-card-questions-answered). Upon check in, I presented the gift card at reception, and gave a brief explanation of the context. A few hours later, as I was about to leave to catch an Uber for a dinner reservation, I received a call from the front desk to our room, telling me the gift card would not be honored per their manager's decision. I explained the context once again, emphasizing that a staff member had told me that day, prior to me checking in, the gift card would be honored, and not doing so would be in violation of Washington State law. After that there was no communication from the staff in any capacity, which left a cloud over my evening and let to a pretty rough night of sleep, as I was not looking forward to the idea of having to get up the next day and argue at the front desk about something that was my legal right, had been guaranteed to me on multiple occasions, and, in principal, should be allowed, as the Hotel Ballard had received a $300 cash payment in 2015 (roughly $365 accounting for inflation between 2015 and 2022) and had not exchanged any goods or services in return to date. While checking out, I once again explained the context of the situation, and it was at that point the staff informed me the card would be accepted. This wasn't necessarily a relief, as there was never any logical basis to question my ability to use this gift card. But what the management at Hotel Ballard did accomplish was take what should have been a relaxing, belated anniversary getaway with my wife, and turn it into a stressful experience out of pettiness, inflexibility, poor communication and decided lack of interest in creating positive experiences for customers. While all the staff members I engaged with directly were kind and communicative, clearly their hands were tied by a toxic management environment. At the end of the day, this experience has broken my trust in Hotel Ballard's interest and/or ability to care for their customers' experience once they have the customer's cash in hand. read more

We are in the process of relocating from Tampa to Ballard and decided to stay at Hotel Ballard while we were looking for houses. It was such a wonderful experience. The staff is outstanding, the rooms are beautiful and spending some time on their rooftop patio was a highlight. We had a garden suite, on the 5th floor. The *tub*, friends. The tub is legendary. We had heard this previously -- and more of less came for the tub. We fit both spousie (6'2) and me (5'2) in it. No small feat, friends. No small feat. Staff were friendly and accommodating. When we arrived to our room it was beautifully prepared with chocolates, bath bombs and champagne to celebrate our special day. Along with a card signed by all the staff. Do you want a cozy-robe-by-the-fire-weekend with your sweetie? Because this is the ideal place for that! Having a fire in the fireplace with the flick of a switch simply did not get old. The creature comforts are high in this suite. Excellent, 10/10, do recommend. read more

Stayed here the night before our wedding as well as the night of. The first night we found hairs/what clearly appeared to be pubic hairs on the pull-out couch-- which was disgusting but more so due to the pandemic. The next night our car was broken into in their parking garage with the windows smashed and our gifts stolen and nobody bothered to tell us about it until we called downstairs at 11am to extend our check our time. The hotel had apparently known since early that morning and hadn't called!! Wtf?! Furthermore, housekeeping was sloppy and there was hair all over the floor from hair/makeup the previous night. The bathroom had obviously not been cleaned. And our commemorative champagne cork was thrown out-- even though it was on top of the dresser. Our courtyard suite had drywall exposed in the bathroom and tape holding up part of the wallpaper in our room as well. Definitely not worth the 400/night rate. Absolutely heartbreaking and an awful stay. read more

Perfect. As they say, the devil is in the details, and Hotel Ballard takes care of that in spades. We loved the turn-down service and were so grateful we were able to check into our room a couple of hours early and allowed late check-out. Check in/check out was easy and the room (and the whole hotel) was just as stylish as you imagine. The downstairs restaurant is one of our very favorite spots to eat. We stayed here on our wedding night. Although we did not get married here, the room and lobby proved a perfect setting for our photos before the main event (as it was rainy outside that day). We returned that evening to a bottle of bubbly and a card signed by the whole staff. What a delight! read more

We've stayed here a number of times recently because it is the closest hotel to family. The up side is the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The down side is the fan runs constantly and the room is still not warm enough. Turns out the thermostat does not control the fan. There is a switch in the closet to turn the fan off. Who knew!?!? Extra blankets in the closet may have helped but there were none. Now, most importantly the in room coffee totally sucks! The decaf pods are half the size of the regular pods and, therefore, produce see through coffee. Most recently, a regular pod produced half a cup of see through coffee. The front desk said you can call down and we'll bring you a carafe of coffee. Again, who knew!?!? And I shouldn't have to call down for coffee when it's provided in the room. I'll probably stay here again but I don't think the it's a good value for the money. read more

The rooms were spacious and quality with incredibly comfy beds. The gym and pool attached to the hotel were awesome but please be aware that its a fully functioning gym with members so we would advise to use it at off peak times when its less busy. Went here for a wedding this past weekend. The hotel staff was extremely rushy when taking away the family dinner servings especially when they had just brought it out. Within 10 minutes they took the entrees and sides away without asking anyone if they were done. I had to stop two separate servers from taking away my food when I was looking the other way during a family speech. Basically, if you can scarf down your food and not talk to anyone during the reception then this won't affect you. However, most guests had noticed it and had the same complaints. Whoever is reading this, steer clear of this hotel if you're considering having your wedding there. It would be a waste of your money and will not be worth it for your guests. Especially, if they're giving a big gift. Aside from the obvious negatives, the Caesar salad here is amazing! Kudos to the chef. read more

We attended a wedding at Hotel Ballard this month, and did an extended stay at the hotel in one of the 5th floor suites. (Family members also gave the non-suite rooms high marks). Our experience was exceptional. Wonderful accommodations, very clean, helpful/attentive personnel, and a fabulous workout/spa area. Usually when I read about a boutique hotel I think that its just a kind way of saying "old"/dated.....that's definitely not the case here! The only drawback is that all guest areas are serviced by one small elevator......which you only notice when an event is being held at the hotel. My wife and I are local, but stayed here the other night because we've been either commuting from Bremerton or sleeping in the NICU with our daughter - We could not have chosen a better hotel. First off, the staff were VERY careful to follow covid guidelines, which is extra important to us right now with a kid in the NICU. But every part of our stay was excellent. The room was beautiful, the staff were SUPER helpful whenever I needed something (in particular, Cody at the front desk is amazing), and we left feeling more rested than we have in months. Booked suite same day through HotelTonight. Was a super easy check in process and staff was friendly and accommodating. I appreciated that the suite was right outside of the elevator. Room was modern yet had old French charm, and is located in a hip part of town with, what looked like, various night life options. Suite had french doors leading out to a private balcony. There was also a separate living room area with beautiful Elizabethan furniture and gorgeous fabrics and curtains. They have a few custom amenities in the room. First, was the huge Queen Ann free standing bathtub. I had brought bath salts with me so I thoroughly enjoyed the bath. They also cater to women by having disposable makeup removers, black towels labeled for makeup and high end toiletries. I'm taking off a star because there were visible stains in more than one place on the bedding duvet. If you can see it, I can see it! I also wasn't fond of the 11am checkout, though they were courteous enough to extend to noon. If you checked out after noon, you automatically incurred a $100 charge. I had just arrived at midnight so I considered this excessive. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay. read more

I am so impressed with how clean this place is, the spa feeling, the robes , slippers room service, bed , pillows, Big bathtub, incredible views, excellent service, so impressed. I don't even know what I can say it's absolutely stunning. The soaps in the room were so good that I took four showers in one day. I really hate to leave this place today and go home, but our son lives a block from here and we will definitely be back again and again and again thank you so much for a beautiful relaxing stay. I can't speak for the hotel but I attended a wedding on The Olympic Rooftop Terrace and it was wonderful. The venue is gorgeous with inside and outside service. The food was from downstairs and OMG I am still day dreaming about it. Passed appetizers included mini vegetarian lasagnas (what?!) and falafel balls. Dinner had a delicious beer salad, roasted carrots, pasta, pizza FOUR desserts and much more-ugh YUM! The service was top notch. One server helped me get a plate for the bride and groom and she snuck them away for a private table so they could actually eat and be together. If you are looking for a wedding venue, this is it. I haven't even mentioned the gorgeous view, it is the icing on the cake. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and we LOVED it! At first the hotel was all booked up for our date, so we added our name to the waitlist, and got a call several days before our desired stay time that they had an opening! We jumped on it, and the woman I talked to on the phone was so nice, and helpful while booking us. I mentioned offhand on the phone during the booking process that it was our anniversary, and that was why we were staying there, so the staff surprised us with a signed card, a box of delicious chocolates, and a bottle of champagne on ice! It was so thoughtful, and very sweet that they took note of that, and gave us such a warm and welcoming gift! Check-in was fast, friendly, and efficient! Everyone we encountered and talked to on staff was so nice, and helpful. We stayed in a standard king room with a balcony overlooking the street. The room was modern, clean, and big. We had plenty of space for both of us not only in the room, but in the bathroom. Cramped bedrooms/bathrooms are the worst when two people are trying to get ready. But we both had lots of space to move around the get ready to go out for the evening, and to get ready for bed. The bed was comfy, and the room was quiet during the night, which was awesome because we were on the second floor street-side. I wasn't disturbed by any street noise, and I slept like a champ. Also, the room stayed super dark into the early afternoon hours. I hate when hotel curtains don't block out light. The curtains here were great! (Seems like a trivial thing until you have a toddler waking up at all hours of the night and day, and get one anniversary night away at a hotel to sleep in!) We ordered room service breakfast for the next morning. It's delivered from a cafe nearby. It was an easy process, priced well, and tasted great! I absolutely loved our stay here! It was a fantastic experience, and I'd definitely book a room here again in the future! read more

I want to pack my bags and move into this hotel forever! I came through last week while a friend was staying in Ballard and happened to check out their hotel room and some of the incredible amenities this hotel has to offer. I have to say, I'm absolutely blown away! So much so that I'll have a hard time recommending any other hotel in Seattle now that I've been here. And that's saying a lot because I live downtown and Ballard is always at least a 15 minute drive from my house. WIth so many options closer to my house, I didn't think I'd ever find a more gorgeous hotel. Everything is spotless and brand spanking new. The wallpaper, the floors, the chandeliers - it's all drop dead gorgeous. I took the elevator up to see the rooftop terrace and found a gorgeous event space that would be perfect for weddings, corporate events, big birthdays, etc. With sweeping waterfront views and plenty of indoor/outdoor space to host easily 100 people, I couldn't think of a better event venue in the entire city. I did some research on the hotel when I got home and also found that the rate for the rooms (there are only 29) are really reasonable. Even for a weekend getaway this hotel is the perfect escape. read more

Hotel Ballard is a very chic hotel, far removed from downtown, in the idyllic Ballard neighborhood. Here, you are situated on Ballard Avenue, which is a lovely place to begin a stroll of the neighborhood, which might lead you all the way to the locks or to Puget Sound. You are also right across from Rudy's barbershop, so a haircut is tantalizingly within reach. As for the hotel itself, the King Suite is very fine. The bed is one of the comfiest I've slept in. The faux-fireplace is cute. There is a balcony which overlooks the avenue, almost enticing you to step outside and sing or converse with passersby on the street. The shower and tub are nice, bu the hot water was a bit wonky. But, Ballard and the surrounding neighborhoods are very different (I'd say better) from the Downtown/Belltown scene, and this is the perfect place to stay and sleep when you're exploring these parts. read more

We always reserve the rooftop courtyard suites with a fireplace and its just so perfect. Tons of restaurants, coffee shops, a movie theatre, a music venue and funky stores are all located in a quaint strollable neighborhood. Every detail is top notch down to the chocolate swedish fish in the room. We are frequent travelers and this is one of the best we've stayed and that includes the Vegas mega-resorts. read more

We are currently laying in bed at 10:45 PM on a Saturday night, and it sounds like elephants are stomping on top of our room. Literally elephants. Stomping. I wish we were joking, but unfortunately we are not. Additionally, we are able to name each song they played, song after song. We are staying in room 404 so please let us help you to avoid booking this floor if you have any choice whatsoever, and are hopeful to get any sleep prior to midnight. The venue holds events Friday and Saturday nights so I imagine this room would be delightful on weekdays. We purposely stayed out past ten as we experienced similar elephant-like stomping yesterday evening, and called the front desk to inquire to find there was a party that they were breaking down etc. The party on Friday apparently ended at ten, FYI. Tonight we called the front desk, and were informed of the time the event would end, and counseled we could call management in the morning. They also said they would go up to the rooftop where the wedding is being held to ensure the noise regulations were not being violated; however, we can still name the songs and hear the stomping (dancing). The woman we spoke to thanked us for letting them know of the inconvenience, and then we said good night. Just wanted to let you all know what you get when paying $250 a night for a room on the fourth floor. read more

Turns out a wedding was taking place the same night and the rooftop reception was audible everywhere in the building until LATE. Now, I've got nothing against weddings (mine was so awesome, you guys... The better half and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ballard. It's a small boutique hotel located in the Ballard district of Seattle. It is located near so many restaurants! I appreciated the fact that they provided guests with maps of Ballard, complete with local listings so it was a breeze to explore the neighborhood. Along with our stay, we also received passes to the adjacent gym facilities. While I was too intimidated to visit said gym, I was in awe of the facility. I docked off a star just because they charged for parking. Unfortunately, on one of the nights we parked in the garage, we forgot to display our hotel parking pass and so we were issued a violation ticket. While I do understand that this garage serves the general public, I would think that any cars parking in the garage overnight would most likely staying in a hotel in the area. However, this is just my personal opinion and we completely own the fact that we forgot to display our parking pass, although at that point in time, we'd been parking there nightly for four nights in a row. read more

This place exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly, and were very welcoming. Ten minutes upon arrival I was called to see how we liked our room. Very kind of them. I didn't like that you have to pay for parking though. I paid 300 to stay here and was bummed I had to add $15 on to park. (That's just me though) The room was huge and very clean. Except the windows, lol very dirty. The tub was relaxing And had plenty of hot water. The shower had good water pressure. The fireplace was not real so that was a bummer but added a nice touch. The hotel is by several bars and shopping so it was nice walking around. The hotel has a pool but weren't able to swim because some people kept swimming even after open lap time was up. Rude! So we sat in the hot tub. Over all nice place. They did give us a complementary bottle of champagne for my boyfriends birthday which was so rad, however I didn't like how they entered our room without notice while we were out. But overall. I'd stay here again and would hands down recommend it. read more

This review is for for Olympic Rooftop Pavilion in Hotel Ballard. This space is absolutely beautiful! Would be great for any type of celebration, big or small. It would be a perfect spot for a sunny warm outdoor/indoor event as apparently the wall of windows fully open up. We had rain but it was still gorgeous and we could see plenty of boats and water from inside the pavilion. I worked with Elisabeth in planning the event and she was very nice and professional. The day of staff and chef were all great as well. One downside was we didn't set the menu until two days prior to the event, they didn't have the current seasonal menu available for us to look through so we just had to suggest a couple options of what we'd like to see and they built a menu around that. The food turned out AMAZING so that didn't end up being a problem :) You have to use the restaurant Stoneburner that is part of the hotel for all the food & beverages and I was a little hesitant at first because a few people I know who have eaten at the restaurant in the past said the food was just decent, but nothing special. We didn't have one negative thing to say about the meal we were served except maybe that the cupcakes were just very basic. I'm not a huge dessert person so without having a current menu to look at I just suggested cupcakes as I thought those would be the easiest and cutest for our baby shower. They were fine but for how much they cost I would have preferred something else. They room is set up with its own bar so all the drinks can be served right there. The space is so classy and elegant you don't need many (if any) decorations to spruce it up. We added a lot of personal touches but we really could have scaled that down and still gotten an elegant feel from the space. I decided to take a chance and stay in the Ballard area and not somewhere downtown Seattle for our anniversary. The reviews and photos of this hotel met my expectations exactly! The room was a standard king bed which was just right. The room was clean, the bed was perfect, and the view on the small balcony was just right. My wife and I will stay here again because of the location to everything we love within walking distance. We had dinner, dessert,and brunch at three different restaurants all with a block of the hotel. This is the perfect hotel if you are looking for something different than the downtown Seattle experience. Book early because there is a very limited amount of rooms. read more
