Just checking in. I'm pretty sure I paid for a full roll of toilet paper. Somehow it didn't translate to the housekeepers.

Just checking in. I'm pretty sure I paid for a full roll of toilet paper. Somehow it didn't translate to the housekeepers. I guess the current three star rating is on par.

I work in the hotel industry, so my standards are realistic -- but what we experienced during our recent stay was beyond unacceptable. Our family booked five rooms, and the condition of the rooms alone would have cost any housekeeping manager their job at my property. The photos I'm posting are from just one of the rooms, and that should tell you everything. Cleanliness: The rooms were filthy. Grime, dirt, and obvious neglect in areas that should be part of any basic cleaning checklist. It genuinely felt like these rooms hadn't received a proper deep clean in months. If my team ever allowed rooms to be sold in this state, there would be immediate write-ups -- if not terminations. ADA Safety Issue: My father-in-law is in a stationary wheelchair, and we rely on ADA-compliant accommodations when we travel. The ADA lift malfunctioned every single time we used it, making it unsafe, unreliable, and frankly dangerous. An ADA feature that doesn't work is more than an inconvenience -- it's a liability and creates a physically unsafe situation for guests who depend on it. When you advertise ADA accessibility, there's an expectation -- and legal obligation -- for those features to function. That was absolutely not the case here. Overall Experience: What should have been a simple family stay turned into frustration, anxiety, and disgust. I typically give hotels grace because I understand the challenges of operations, but this stay wasn't a matter of "oops, we missed a detail." This was systemic neglect. Until this property addresses both sanitation and ADA compliance, I cannot recommend it to any traveler -- especially anyone with mobility needs.

We had such a fun experience staying at the Hotel Monte Vista. It is, however, not for the faint of heart of the "finicky" traveler. If you can ride with the inconveniences and appreciate all the charm, intrigue, character and revelry, you will thoroughly enjoy your stay. First, the historic building itself is fun to explore and research. Apparently, it has experienced many "tragedies" which lead to the mystique of being haunted. We didn't personally experience any spirits of any sort, but were open to the possibility. The visual details were interesting, especially on the first floor and from outside the building. This establishment is hopping with activity. We are not partners yet it was fun to watch people having fun. We do want a good night sleep so booked our room on the upper floors, away from the bar area on the first floor. The fourth floor suite was actually noisier than the third floor suite, both booked on weekend nights, book-ending our trip to AZ. The noise level outside, from the streets, with windows cracked, was not difficult to handle either night. We were traveling with two adults couples so the option of sharing a two bedroom suite was perfect. The bathroom adjoining the rooms, in an L-shaped configuration, was tiny yet clean and functional. The doors allowed privacy. The windows might or might not go up easily to get air in the rooms (the place is old) but the ceiling fans worked well and kept air circulating. We visited the Hotel in April. Be advised that there is no air conditioning in the Hotel. April was mild, actually perfect weather but July and August? Not sure this Michigander could handle the heat. Our queen beds were comfortable in all rooms; probably of medium firm support. The bedding was comfortable. The rooms were large enough to feel cozy yet open. We enjoyed the views out the windows. One of the best features of the Hotel is its location. It is walking distance from the Amtrak Station (we ride in and felt safe walking to and from the hotel late at night and very early in the morning.). It is in the historic downtown district which is lively at most hours, quieter in the early morning, and full of interesting shops, restaurants, street art, Hwy 66 memorabilia, historical walking tours, ghost walking tours, art tours.... Plenty to fill a long weekend or even a longer stay. The staff were variable. Some staff were exceptionally helpful and others were less so. Hey, very similar to the hotel itself (wonderful features and "tolerable" challenges). We will definitely be returning. Hotel Monte Vista is our kind of place on an adventure travel vacation.

Rendezvous bar was happening! My fiance and I went there on a Saturday night and it was very lively. Somewhat of a young crowd but it's nice to people watch.

A lot of charm, but I don't know if it's enough to recommend. First and foremost, DO. NOT. PARK. IN. ANY. SPOT. besides the two rows closest to the hotel. We parked in an unmarked spot three rows away from the hotel. We went to check in & found out that their parking spaces were just those 2 rows. Went back out to move our car, literally less than 5 minutes later, and found a lady had put a boot on our car. It cost us $180 to get it removed. As for the room (403 Freddie Mercury), it's was not worth the price hike for the "Downtown View". All we saw were rooftops. If you don't do well in the heat, I wouldn't recommend coming here in the summer. There's no central AC. Just a tiny window shaker that kept icing up. I don't know if it's the same for all rooms though. The bed was ok, very bouncy. I felt every eye blink of my husband like it was a 4.0 earthquake. The pillows were crazy plump. The bathroom was tiny, no vent & had no place to put toiletries. It could also use a good deep cleaning. It wasn't horrible but if you looked close, you could see the age & grime. Water pressure was low, especially in the sink. All in all, we most likely won't be going back, unless we were guaranteed to get one of the "haunted" rooms, but there's no waiting list or way to request if before check in. It's pretty sad as this hotel has been a bucket list item for years.

I am so happy with the services I received here. The rooms are clean and they have great deals. I spoke to Jackson over the phone and he gave me and estimate. He told me what they have available. When we got there he assigned us a room, he was very welcoming, and he went above and beyond. Jackson has top notch customer service. Thank you Jackson.

We kept taking out trash to the hallway can. Housekeeping never came. As for the phone cord, they could install vintage looking wall phones.

We booked four nights, months out. They didn't just take a deposit, they charged the entire stay in advance. I missed that if I checked in, I'd basically be responsible for the whole stay if we checked out after noticing the filth, because I missed the fine print. For a dirty room and basically zero amenities, I'm disgusted. The pretty stops at the lobby. The elevator is the last nice thing we saw. The bed was a cheap springy noisy mattress, but the sheets were clean, and the pillows were thick. Please see the comments on my pictures about the dirt. We asked the front desk nicely four times for towels and only got fresh towels once, the desk clerk got them for us. The bathroom is so tiny there was a humidity issue. I know about small 1920s bathrooms, but this was really difficult for us. The tub was so high my hubby had to help me get in, and the toilet was small like in a kindergarten. Parking is awful. They say "limited" which does not adequately describe the lack of spaces. We counted 22 for the entire hotel. The rest is street parking, which we had to do for two nights. Do not expect to park anything larger than a smaller SUV anywhere nearby. Do not stay here with a larger vehicle or if you can't haul your valuables up to your room. The desk staff is dismissive at best. I could've dropped dead in front of them and they probably wouldn't have noticed. I'm used to good customer service, and for the price, next time I'm in town, I'll probably stay at a Marriott property. We were assured there was a room fridge, there was not, and the attitude was like we were putting them put for asking. As for noise, we were over the bar, 2nd floor on the corner and it wasn't an issue. The noise was from outside drunks and sirens. We had a haunted room, so we did have a lot of wall knocks and drawer pulls rattling. The door to the hall kept opening, so I was concerned about security. We made sure to use the turn lock and not rely on the handle. Super disappointed. Angry. Grossed out. Had I noticed the room dirt sooner, I wouldn't have eaten in their restaurant.

I asked what the outrageous fee was for and they could not give me an answer other than 'extra cleaning' which we all know is total BS. Housekeeping does absolutely nothing different because there was a pet in the room. Policies like this are just a blatant rip off. We come back hours later around 10:00PM and my room keycard wasn't working so I went to the front lobby to get a new one. The shorter India looking guy who was apparently the hotel manager said "Where and how did you get this card"? I said my roomate gave it to me so I could get into the room. He proceeded to say "Look, I know you guys have been clubbing, I am going to call the Police if you don't leave". After I heard that, I walked away and knocked on my roomates room door myself so he could let me in himself. My roomate let me in and called the front desk to give me my key back. Then the manager came and gave me my key back while I was in the room. This was hands down, the most unaccommodating, unpleasant and downright hotel experience ever. If my roomate had fallen asleep and was unable to answer the door, the manager would've called the cops on me and got me arrested. Do not stay at this establishment, the hotel across the street will always look out for your safety and wellbeing when you are down at the bar having a few drinks with your friends and family.

He seems mentally unbalanced and is not a good face for the business. I made a reservation online and arrived with a small camper in tow. Blue immediately assured me that it wouldn't be possible for me to park anywhere on the premises, though I'd already paid to stay the night. When I asked "surely you aren't that busy, the parking lot has many open spaces", he raised his voice to yell at me that as a policy they do not accept oversized vehicles and I needed to find somewhere else to stay. I am a young woman traveling alone and grown men yelling at me is scary, so I left the premises to find another hotel to stay at. I called the agency I booked the hotel through to cancel the reservation. Blue reassured them on the phone that he can't do a refund because one guest can only take up 2 parking spaces. My car and camper can detach and take up exactly 2 spaces. This detail would have been helpful to hear initially instead of being yelled at and shooed away so I could resolve the situation. Because I booked another hotel room at Blue's insistence, and then he refused me a refund. I returned to the hotel to clarify with Blue that I would have liked to know the bit about being able to take up 2 parking spots because I could have fixed the problem and stayed there instead of paying for 2 hotels, but he started raising his voice at me, telling me the blatant lie that he "was trying to tell me that, but I wouldn't listen", and continued to scream at me to get off his property. As long as this man is working here, I'd recommend staying far away from this business. I've added some photos of the space in the parking lot for reference.

This was two items they charged an extra $50 for. The "fan" was supposed to cool the room after 30 minutes but blew hot air out no matter what setting. This demonstrated lack of any oversight or care that a room in such deplorable conditions was even offered to a paying guest. I demanded my money back or that they make it right. We paid for a 6 night stay. The next room they moved us to was much better. The microwave was clean and the fridge worked. Turned on the "fan" and the room cooled to near freezing. We stayed our 6 nights. I believe this place has a long term stay area were there are sketchy people that I see holding signs on street corners. And I firmly believe they have substandard conditions there because they claimed their air conditioning was broken. Maybe in that one building but no fan will ever cool a room to near freezing. That's air conditioning. I believe they have a guest section where everything works and then a long term stay where they could care less that anything works. So when we had to travel to Flagstaff again for some appointments at the end of Feb this year, we figured things would be same. We had booked through Priceline a queen room in a smoking room as we vape. When we checked in, the woman was very nice and check in was fine. Our room however was not good. It was 2 double beds. One of the lights didn't work. The lights that did work had two different light shades. There was something very sticky dropped on the floor that hot water couldn't even get off the floor. One of the lamp shades was broken. The TV got maybe 10 tv channels. There was a dirty crusty washcloth hanging on the shower curtain bar. The beds were pretty hard. The biggest downfall of the room was how hot the room was. When we checked in, it was really warm, so we pushed the ancient (falling off the wall) thermostat all the way to cool and turned on the fan. Instead of cooling the room, it got to over 90 degrees. We woke up at 4 am dying in the heat. We had to open the door and let the cold air in to cool off the room. We were not able to sleep after. At checkout, you don't actually check out with a real person, it's a kiosk with someone across the world. It is so impersonation. I believe since Motel 6 has been acquired by Oyo, they have gone downhill. Also, look into the air vent. Ours shows the filter had not been changed since November 2024.
