Boyfriend and I went to Hotel Vegas last night to see Quiet Company. Doors opened at 9 and the show started at 10. We handed the doorman our tickets, walked inside, and saw all of five other people there. After confirming from the bartender that there was going to be an opening band, we decided that rather than wait an hour an a half in a dingy bar with no energy, we wanted to go elsewhere for a few drinks. The doorman informed us that there was no reentry, something we had not been warned about, and motioned to a sign stating such behind him that had not been easily visible. We had been inside for fewer than five minutes. We opted to eat the $50 we spent on tickets and go elsewhere. I won't be returning. read more

Live music venue that has had(and still has) good shows. Its an indoor and outdoor hangout spot- the type of place thats always on my list of places to go check out while im on the east side. check for cover, wear whatever you want, great place to people watch. read more

Man I came here on a Sunday n it was a crazy place! Lots of skateboarders n black suits doing jig dances n sum loud rocker music that shook my soul to the bone!!! Hotel Vegas used to be my favorite spot in town. The first time I came here I saw Christian Bland play an acoustic set of Syd Barrett covers and the place was almost empty, back when they still had tables inside. It was amazing. Recently, I've been more disappointed every time I come out. They always book the best live music acts, that's undeniable, but the staff has become pretty hard to deal with. They are rude and clickish, the covers are outrageous for a local venue ($10-$20/person) and the sound seems to get worse every time. Hotel Vegas has become a haven for the hipster elite of Austin, and I miss the good ol days. read more

Fun atmosphere! Live music, great patio /yard area- very chill spot. Staff was all really nice and drinks were tasty. Definitely hole in the wall feel in the front bar, but we enjoyed sitting outside on the benches. read more

Here from out of town and this is a great venue to watch a show on a Tuesday night!!!

Had a great DJ mixing old school hip-hop, rap and house fusion. It was packed and easily 100 degrees at one point. The party carried out onto the street as people sang, stomped and clapped for an extra 30 minutes. Yes the entire club was dancing in the streets. I came back on a slow day and they gave away free drinks to get people to socialize and get on the dance floor, definitely a well run place. read more

It's like hanging out in a friend's backyard. We got to hear the music from inside of the club, and also the band playing next door. Neither was too quiet or too loud. We could still hold a conversation. When we showed up at 6 on a Thursday, though, they seemed as if they didn't know they were supposed to be open. The beers were cheap, but not very cold, and the wells were great! If you just want a place to chill and talk with your friends, this place is perfect. read more

Hotel Vegas did a great job again at hosting our staff appreciation party! I love this venue because the different rooms provide something for everyone - karaoke and music in the front, pool and photobooth in the middle, and a more quiet hangout space in the back. Everyone was wonderful and our group had a great time! This is a great venue to rent out for a party! read more

Music was cool. DJ was really good! 3 external and internal environments but outside just chemical bathroom and inside, where we do not pay couvert, just one restroom for ladies (so prepare yourself for a line). Inside just one AC outlet....for Austin summer it is complicated!! It doesn't mean we will not be back. Music there worth it so we enjoyed it. read more

you can't do zero? bummer. The sound guy actually "Made" the band sound horrible. Very impressive and hard to do. Very non-responsive with his earbuds in as it appeared he was doing a board mix to a cassette deck (yes, this is october 2012). Awful. period. If you're going to install a qsc rig, at least pay a guy 50 bucks a night to turn it on, instead of your buddy's friends, cousins, neighbors nephew that can barely hook up an ipod. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I'm only writing this in reference to their POORLY planned NYE party. 1. Tickets were sold out, meaning they knew how many tickets they sold, YET they had only ONE person scanning tickets. I was in line for 40 minutes!!! STUPID!!! 2. After waiting to get my ticket scanned (40 minutes!!!), there was also only ONE person putting on wristbands!! Why was a wrist band even necessary as there was only one type of ticket and everyone in the bar was over 21! Perhaps there is a rule I'm not aware of, otherwise another STUPID decision by management. 3. After waiting 40 minutes to get into the venue, I then had to wait 30 minutes to get a drink b/c there were only 2 outside bars with 2 bartenders. The line was so long, I personally saw 4 people get out of line b/c they didn't "want to stand in line all night" If I was owner of this place, I would fire whomever was in charge that night, as they cost you THOUSANDs and THOUSANDs of dollars. I planned on drinking alot that night, mostly at your bar. However, instead of spending well over $200 in drinks for my friends and me, I spent only $25. If you the owner was actually present at this event, you should punch yourself in the face, as you are too stupid to realize what an opportunity this could have been (not just for making money that night, but for bringing back customers who never visited your bar before). 4. As if a 4 is needed. You lost me as a customer. I will NEVER go back to your bar. And I've told numerous people how sh*tty my NYE was all b/c of your "NYE party". read more

There's nothing wrong with this place. It's just another music venue with a couple of bars, a picnic style area in the back, and a couple of bars. The staff were fine the night that I was there, and the sound system for the music sounded pretty good. It's not the most exciting place in the world, but it's a decent place to check out music, and I would be happy to go back there in a second to check out another act. read more

i'm no longer surprised that this place has such a low rating. I've been to this place many times and have never had a problem with it, not even their $4 wells. Until recently. I went to an event they were throwing. The fliers advertised free beer while it lasts, which is nice of them, but considering how early we arrived It seemed like that might have been literally ONE free beer. I go to lots of free events and events with free drinks, but this place consistently runs out before anyone gets there. There really was almost no one there; it was not even an hour after the start of the thing. That's not even the reason I'm writing this; I don't even drink beer. So, I had a tab open. When I was ready to leave and had called my cab I went to close my tab. When it was my turn I was told that they couldn't close it because the computers were down. I tried to explain that my ride was leaving me, I was pretty much told too bad, they couldn't give me my card back. No attempt to help, or write the card number down or anything. That's not good service, and that's a big chunk of a bartender's job. I mean besides looking cool, and serving people overpriced drinks. read more

Best dive bar in Austin. Not for the faint of heart. They usually have good live music and always have booze, a very important ingredient! They have nice pool table and some good food out back too. Worth checking out if you into that whole east austin scene. read more

I was scared to go to Hotel Vegas because of the bad reviews I read on here before I went. I was actually really impressed with the place. I think those who reviewed it were expecting a jumping club atmosphere like on dirty 6th, but that's not what this is. It has a much more chill/ artsy feel to it, though as the night progressed their dance floor got crowded and it was fun. They also have a "backyard" area where you can sit outside/smoke/ converse for a change of atmosphere. They DO have bathrooms also- not sure where the port-a-potty thing came from. Like I said, it's not a crazy club, but it's an enjoyable different bar that I would definitely go back to. read more

Sweet new dive bar on East 6th featuring live music. The place is small and tough to navigate when it's crowded, but it has a large patio out back. The room sounds really good and the staff is friendly. If you are into dive bars and live music definitely check out this place. read more

People are silly! Of course there's a bathroom inside. It's reasonably clean too (especially for a divey music venue). I'm into this place. I have been a fan of The Volstead since it opened and was psyched to see they had a live music venue right next door. The bar staff are salt of the earth rocker kids and FAST. I'm there a bunch and they always recognize me, say hey and gimme a smile, which you can't say for a lot of the bars on E. 6th. Folks get cranky up on that street! I like Hotel Vegas mostly b/c they're unpretentious and have great bands - I've seen more than a few bands who made me run home and downloaded their albums. I spent New Years Eve there too and had a blast - great DJ room as well. Totally check it out. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. It's what you want. I promise. One star for this poorly managed East 6th bar. The only thing that appeals to this bar is the DJ's not playing the typical music that you hear on West 6th. The first bouncer would not let me in with a legal ID which is quite shocking that your doormen don't know what acceptable Texas ID's are. Of course he had to be a typical jerk about it but I digress since I walked five feet to the next door and was let in just fine. The dance floor feels like a typical high school house party while the parents are out of town and the kids certainly act like it. It's great for people watching but that's about it. The bartenders were rude and when we requested a drink they didn't have, they made it a point to mention that "we aren't that type of bar". It was a drink that consisted of three liquors, please don't over exert yourself. This place has the potential to be a three, maybe a four star venue but because of the staff, they deserve their one star rating. I recommend one of the many other bars in area before giving them my business. read more
