We stopped by Violet Crown for a drink when Uptown Sports Club had too long of a wait. Definitely a different vibe from what we were looking for. There's a sizeable patio out front that looked pretty nice but inside was dark and dank. We did enjoy sitting on their shaded back patio while we drank our beers but probably won't be going back. Been here a couple times most recently about six months ago prior to that with a different person and we here it hasn't changed much. It's sort of a pick up place for leftovers yeah to be honest it's a place to go for the leftovers if you're looking for that sort of action, Drinks are heavy and they're pricey bartenders are rude. Stinks like piss and bomb just like you you'd expect in Texas, the girls are stuffed into thier jeans and some of them got Velcro C-section scores you know they're hanging out the front talking high class. We're talking to Austin. I'm only recommended if you need it if you don't need it go find someplace else. I don't use the bathroom here you're gonna get vomit on your shoes. Terrible experience. From the moment my friends and I arrived, the staff was rude, dismissive, and made it clear we weren't welcome. We were treated noticeably differently than other patrons, which felt discriminatory and extremely uncomfortable. Service was slow to nonexistent, and when we tried to address the issue, we were met with attitude instead of any attempt to help. A bar should be welcoming, this one was the opposite. One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I understand that it's SXSW and there are a lot of other people in town and many of them have had a little too much to drink, but if you are working as a bartender in Austin, then I feel like you should understand that when you are behind the counter. The dude behind the counter either needs to be completely retrained on customer service or he needs to consider anger management classes. When we walked up to get a drink, we asked what the slush flavor was and when he said orange dreamsicle, we got excited (let's face it, that's an amazing flavor for a slush), but before we could even order, he walked away. When he finally came back, he asked "do you know what you want yet?" in a very demeaning tone. And when I responded with "we were going to order the slush before you walked away", he quickly and sassily responded with "You guys took too long and I can't read minds". Completely inappropriate way to respond to customers, especially when there was no one behind us. The situation was embarrassing and a perfect example of what not to do when working in hospitality. I hope the guy got a hug from someone later that night because he clearly needed one. read more

Would not recommend this place. They don't have consistent prices for drink, they tell you one thing and than charge another depending on the day. The short girl with blue hair was extremely rude and had attitude the entire time and began over charging for my drinks and didn't even ring up the proper drink under the itemized receipt. We have been here a couple of times and it is usually our last stop on the Eastside before heading home. We love the vibe here and you can always quickly score a strong pour even when they are busy. During SXSW we figured it would be wall-to-wall and we were pleasantly surprised to find the bar area pretty empty (the patio area was jammed). Violet Crown is a perfect way to end your night on East 6th. We stopped in late on a Friday evening, and sat in their expansive patio for drinks and conversation. The place was full enough, but wasn't exceptionally packed like many other spots on this street, making for a more relaxed vibe. Their creamy orange frozen drinks were a dream, and we had several, served up by a friendly and unpretentious bartender. We look forward to coming back on our next trip. read more

We wandered into the social club after being down the street at another bar. The energy here was way more chill than the others on this strip, with a noticeable absence of frat dudes. The volume was appropriate for the size of the room. They had mean girls playing on the TV with a phenomenal array of 80s and early 90's music. There was a charging station for my phone, which I was in dire need of. The cocktails were as expected, nothing fancy, but poured strong and regularly from the attentive bartender. There's also an outdoor eating area, with a food truck. This bar is a hidden gem! Looks very deceiving from the outside and entrance, but once you get in, it's a romantic and unique ambiance. The bar tenders create crafty cocktails (even when not in the menu) and always present you with a glass of water upon seating. I've tried 4 different cocktails and they were all very impressive. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... Well, maybe not the worst, but to an oldster like me, Violet Crown Social Club is a tale of two seatings. On one hand, the inside could be a comfortable fun place, but the music is just too loud for some of us "get off my yard" types. But the outside seating was great my first visit here with a large yelpy group, and was equally fun with my wife the other night. Inside and out is spacious and clean. VCSC embraces its environment. The Via 313 pizza trailer is incorporated into the property, and they are more than happy to deliver to you anywhere in the bar you happen to be chilling. The other trailers across the way also provide other quality options on the cheap. I've always had quick and friendly service, even though at times the line at the bar was a couple folks deep. Sure, I'll never get my cider comped, like the much younger (and yeah, much cuter) lass who introduced herself to the barkeep right before me. But getting two drinks at peak Friday time, for less than another trendier place's HH pricing, is great. The simple parking no more than a block or 2 away, or the train 3 blocks away to take us back north on the weekend, seal the deal. read more

This, in all it's glory, is a tasty orange vodka concoction that comes from a margarita machine that is just slushy-ing around all that juicy goodness for you with a chill. You will not regret it. Do watch yourself though, those drinks can sneak up on you if you don't have plans to eat down a Carnivore pizza from Via 313. Staff is stellar & always attentive even when the place is packed. Parking can sometimes be a pain if you don't want to drive around looking for free parking on the East side and you're arriving later than 11pm on Thursday - Saturday nights. Don't worry though, double check if the 2 spaces in front of Violet Crown are open before you start circling the block. Those 2 spaces are often empty when I roll up here after 11pm. By the way, this is the sister bar of Bender Bar & Grill, cousin to Mugshots, birthed by Barfly's and step sister to Pour House. Their slogans, for all bars listed above, revolve around the "Cheap drinks so you don't have to be". Also, like all of their bars, this jukebox is killer and has some fantastic tunes. Cockroaches. My group snagged a great table outside by the back door during a busy Thursday night, ordered drinks at the bar and sat down. About 5 minutes later we noticed the first 3" roach climbing the wall beside our table. We tried to just deal with it until I started spitting more roaches. Lots of them right by the backdoor. It's got that old dark bar feel inside, but also has some TVs for entertainment and a lively physical bar with nice stools. We chose the big, curved bench for our group of seven or eight, and filled in with chairs. The drinks were indeed fairly inexpensive and good, and they have a number of good beer selections on tap. Upon completion of your pizza, the VIA 313 guys bring it to you at the table, and the munching begins. This is a great arrangement for both businesses IMO. Violet is a reliable sweet spot to me. When you open the door, you know you can expect a nice cool, dark, rad place to have a drink. Every time I have been here it has not been overly crowded which is a good thing. We came here on a late Saturday afternoon and we were all able to get seats at the bar so we could laugh and talk to each other. I'm one of those picky people I can't drink well drinks and majorly batched sugar stuff so I asked if he could make me a skinny margarita. Bartenders also make a good drink, you will not feel shorted. VIA 313 Pizza out side. Food court with some of my favorite food trucks across the street. The inside is cool, usually dark, which is better for beer goggles that way. ; - ) No live music, but music is always good in the jukebox. Nice outdoor deck area to chill with friends. I would say I am absolutely a fan of Violet Crown Social Club! The drinks are always strong and delicious. It's cheap here which is always nice. If you are looking for fancy this is not the place. If you want friendly people and nice bartenders this is the reason to come here! Plus they have some of my favorite pizza right outside from Via 313 - how can you not be a fan of this place?! It seems anytime I am out and about on the eastside I end up stopping in here for a drink or 2 or 3. I like to sit out back on the patio sipping on my drink and waiting for my pizza.
