We are here since we were staying in the hotel and arrived so late that almost nothing else was open on a Sunday night. The atmosphere is cool- intimate lighting, high ceilings, big round booths, exposed brick and a long bar. The waitress was really nice and accommodating for a large, rowdy crowd near the end of her shift! Food wise, I was not expecting anything special BUT everything was very tasty and cooked well! We tried the nachos, asparagus, who tuna, fajitas, garbanzo bran dip, pulled pork wich and fries, and lettuce wraps....and....drum roll for the incredible fried mushrooms with a cream sauce!!! What are those mushrooms!!! The entire table fought over these very large perfectly cooked shrooms!!! Very impressive for a hotel restaurant in a small town. Your average retail food chain that you can find in a hotel. I have eaten here a few times and the food seems enjoyable. The menu is hit or miss but you can usually get something that will satisfy. I have to say , the wait staff has been exceedingly friendly and for that I would come again. Notice I said waitstaff and not bar staff. I have not been impressed with them at all. It seems I always get the same one and he doesn't want to be bothered to do his job. Oh well, the pain only lasts until 11 pm since that is the time they close! Small..yes! The portions are very small at lunch time compering with the high price! I am very dissapointed with this place because I used to enjoy some of the specialties. Appetizers are good but they are not worth it if you know that for the same price you can get double somewhere else! I will agree that it's lame to review chain restaurants, but considering that they are all the rage in this town, I think it's appropriate in this instance. My verdict on Houlihan's downtown: sloppy food, inferior service, sluggish employees. You can tell it wants to be an upscale chain restaurant (that is, the corporate office has provided it with ambitious menus and swanky decor) but the people on the ground just can't execute it correctly. I always end up going back here just because it's close to my house, and more often than not I regret it. One major pro is the dessert menu - they offer very small portions of sweet stuff that is perfect for two people. Also, sitting on the patio during pleasant weather can be quite nice when you're not in a hurry and just want to grab a couple drinks. But that's where the positives end. When you order your food, the menu is written in such a way to make you very excited about your selection. Once it is set down in front of you, however, you probably won't be as "jazzed" because the presentation is sloppy and the ingredients are inferior. Houlihan's went through a major rebranding effort a couple years ago and now place a huge emphasis on presentation, taste and visual innovation into its food (well, as much as a franchise can.) But this location falls far short, and their menus and marketing efforts remind you of that constalty -- it's easy to see the discrepancies between what's pictured on the sign and what ended up on your plate. Also, the hygiene isn't so great either. I have often seen flatware and plates that are dirty, and the wait staff has been indifferent toward cleanliness. If you're looking for a nice place to sit down outside in downtown Columbus, I'd head over to Cannon or Locas Cantina. Houlihan's is tolerable for quick lunch, but definitely not worth the value after 2 p.m. read more

The first time we came here the food was decent and the service was good. The second time was horrible. We sat for almost 20 minutes before our order was taken. Drinks and food orders were wrong. The bill was wrong. A side of asaparagus is 4 pieces on a huge plate. Is this a joke? Creme bruleee was not torched. Please don't try the doughnuts. It's just burnt batter. Overall my experience here was ok. The ambiance was good. We were seated quickly but it took our server about 15 minutes to show up. The food was probably slight above average. We had the tuna appetizer, the scallops, and the top sirloin with shrimp. The tuna and scallops were ok, steak and shrimp were really good. I had fond memories of this restaurant when I lived in GA back in 2007 but oh my how things have changed. The hostess walked us over to a filthy table and wiped both the table and chairs with a wet rag. We had to ask her to dry of the seats. Then there seemed to have been a mix up with the seating chart because the waitress took a while to acknowledge us and on top of that I received a cold meal on my birthday. Needless to say.... Really great food, I've never had a bad meal at THIS Houlihans. (the new one over off of Airport Thruway is a different story) I've always gone on a Friday or Saturday night, and even busy it was never that big a deal waiting to get our food. They weren't crazy fast, but I also like to enjoy a restaurant, not get cattle herded through 2-3 courses and rushed out the door. Apps, mains, and desserts are good. They're a little pricey, but for the me food is good enough to warrant it. read more

Went here back on Thanksgiving due to visiting my brother at Fort Benning and well...there weren't many other places open that night. The food seemed okay, my dish (their mac n' cheese) was just...meh. It wasn't disgusting, but I wouldn't get it again either. It satisfied my basic hunger. Dessert (the sampler) was good, but not stellar or memorable. The restaurant, however, is located in a historic building (always a plus for me!) so that was cool to look around while waiting. This place wouldn't have been my first choice for dinner, but given the situation it was fine and worked in a pinch. Perhaps if the menu was revamped a bit I'd return. read more

The food here is pretty good for a Houlihan's (admittedly not a high bar) and the staff is very helpful and friendly. We ate outside so maybe that is why the service was so slow. We would have probably ordered more drinks and dessert if it had not been for the fact that we figured it would take another 30 minutes to get them. It is a pleasant place in an area that doesn't necessarily have a ton of great restaurants. And the steak salad was good, although some of the items mentioned in the menu description were not visible on the salad as it was served. (Spicy pecans, raw beets). read more

I am now leaving this restaurant and pretty sure I won't return to this Houlihans or any other. I ordered the lunch salad with Ahi tuna and asked for the dressing on the side. After I received the Salad, I started eating it and found that it had bananas on it. I'm sorry, but Tuna and bananas do not go together. But more importantly the dressing was mixed in and not on the side as I had requested. I asked the waitress to exchange for a dinner salad, which she did. The replacement dinner salad was a small salad on a big plate- no appeal at all. The rub came when the waitress presented me with a bill for the Ahi Tuna Salad ~$17.50(I also got a cup of tortilla soup- that was good). She wouldn't remove the charge and explained to me that I had to pay for the original salad. She focused on the fact that I missed bananas in the description. I had to ask for the mgr. The executive chef came out and didn't apologize and explained hooligans rationalization that they had fools costs to consider amongst other poor customer focused answers. I travel for business, eat out more than I do at home and have not ever had this bad of inexperience at any well known national chain and certainly not Houlihans. read more

After reading the other reviews on Yelp I didn't even want to try this restaurant. However it was raining and I didn't want to leave the hotel so I went anyway and I'm glad I did. I ended up visiting three times here during my stay. Service was always good; perhaps slightly slow but in all cases the staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was good- nothing I'll remember fondly on my deathbed but all good quality and portion sizes. Loved the "Pickle Fries". The draft beer selection is rather bland. read more

Ok, I love Houlihan's. I've always loved Houlihan's! But THIS ONE!!!! Oh my gosh. It was so clean and the ambiance was wonderful! Came here for a private dinner in a booth, and man is that what we got! Our server, Blake, was so kind and accommodating. He made us laugh and suggested amazing meals! He suggested the Asian chicken salad and the Scallops! And ohhhhh man, those suggestions were spot on! The worst. It was over an hour to get food. When it finally did arrive the order was incorrect. Then I was told they were unable to correct my order. This time we went to the new(er) location on Sidney Simons Blvd. Service was pretty unimpressive. Coffee was old, Coke was flat, an unsweetened tea was brought out as a refill for a sweet tea, my entree was brought out about 5 minutes before everyone else's, etc. I got the tuscan white bean salad which actually wasn't bad, but we only went because the people we were meeting wanted to go here today. Don't waste your time! This was a second chance after a very dismal dining experience about a year ago. The first time our sons child's burger was thrown into a deep frier and was harder than a hockey puck. The manager was a very nice lady and offered to pick up some of the tab and gave us a gift card. Thanks to her but she apparently isn't around anymore and that sucks because the server doesn't know the menu, the bartender doesn't have cold mugs or cold beer and has ran out of stock of 1 of the 5 main beers. When we first got there we noticed several empty tables. We waited 25 minutes for a table. While we were waiting we saw 5 waitresses and a cook standing with the hostesses. We were finally escorted to the table and we're told to wait a minute so they could wash the table off.We saw several empty tables there. They even had the entire patio are available with just one family eating there. While waiting for the table to be cleaned we could not help but smell the odor of vomit and wet rags. We could not stay another minute and left. We will never return. Clearly advise you to stay away. Zero stars for Houlihans! You are better off walking down Broadway to all the restaurants and bars. The food is pretty good but the service is amazing. I'm from Miami and usually only dine at establishments that have at least a 20 Zagat rating but the service at the patio was phenomenal. Dezma was by far one of the best servers I have ever interacted with. So polite, attentive and an absolute pleasure to converse with. She offered to bring our table a healthier menu and stopped by periodically to ensure our dining experience was up to par. I will return to Columbus just to dine here again. read more

Service was very bad. I had called ahead to see if they could accommodate a party of 15, I was told that they could on the patio. Once we arrived they seated us and the waiter took our drink orders. It took 20 minutes to bring out the drinks. Appetizers were taken next. Another 30 minutes. Waiter did not bother to take entree orders until appetizers were eaten. It has now been over 2 1/2 hours and not all the food has been brought out. Our waiter, Jud, continues to tell us that he has 2 parties inside that he is also taking care of. They are now working on the checks, for the last 30 minutes. We will see how long this takes. read more

I wish I could leave a negative star rating, and I will never eat there again. I Tried this place for lunch. took forever to get our food then two of my friends ordered a draft beer, When the server came by the table again one asked for another draft and the server informed him he could not sell him anymore because the machine was broken and the temperature of the beer would not be cold so he offered him a bottle beer. The next time the server came by he apologized for not being able to sell him the draft beer and explained that it was because it could make them sick, I couldn't believe it. The filet mignon was butchered twice and I was finally asked if I wanted a refill on my tea when we were getting ready to leave. Then To top it off they charged them for the beer that could have made them sick! Later I called back and spoke to another manager and was told he was sorry and that's it. read more

I treated my mom and other family members to lunch at this restaurant on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Although I didn't like the fajitas that I ordered, others in the group thought the food was fair. In addition, we had very poor customer service. The restaurant was nearly empty, and it took an extremely amount of time to get our food. Whenever something was not to our satisfaction with the food or the service,and we brought it to the attention our server, she seemed to have had a serious attitude problem. I guess that explains why the restaurant was nearly empty. I was later informed that the other location in Columbus has much better service and food. read more

CLOSE THIS PLACE!! This was without a doubt the single worst meal I've ever ordered in my life. The only item not sent back were the Nachos, but they never should have been consumed. There was some nasty 'secret cheese sauce' that ended up wrenching my stomach all night. Everything was cold and smelled funky. The items sent back included a freezer burnt steak ordered medium and cooked well done and a pesto pasta that contained no pesto... maybe 4mg of dried basil dusted on the bottom.
