Stopped by this Houlihan's on our way down the shore. First, let me say, that our server Earl was fantastic. Secondly, the food which was made of nachos, chicken avocado egg rolls and the chicken tenders with the sauces on the side are our staple and all three were excellent. I have no idea why these other locations keep shutting down. I hate chain restaurants but Houlihans is by far the freshest and best one out there. The Holmdel location is fantastic. My favorite waitress there takes such good care of us, the drinks are great and they even have one or two that are just for that location made by their bartender. The happy hours are great and I am never disappointed by the food. The bruschetta and the stuffed chicken breast are my go to favorites! read more

Have not been in some time and glad we went back. Always solid food! I had fish and chips and it was enough for two! Ordered the prix-fix menu where you get an app, dinner, and dessert. Had shrooms to start and they were great! Crème Brûlée was on point for the end. Wife had salmon and it good. Little one had a burger and it was cooked to perfection. while the server was nice , the place was clean , big issue with food. I told the waitress when we ordered my sister and i have a wheat allergy . we asked some questions like if the fries where in a dedicated fryer, she said no and the fries come with wheat on them, she showed us on the menu how to see what was gl.uten free . we ordered burgers on gluten free roll and twice baked potato . so the burgers cam out with fries ( not gluten free ) touching them bread, She didn't notice , we did. she took it back to kitchen and changed the rolls . the manager came over and asked how things were. so since he asked we told him. not happy . while the waitress was super nice and helpful , the kitchen needs work and training and the manager did nothing. read more

Last week went to Houlihans Holmdel and had an amazing late lunch early dinner that was made more special by our server Coleen. Part time juggler, full time professional who made our experience wonderful. Thank you Coleen and a special shout out to Al who was stopping by and checking on ours and everyone else's experience. Told waitress at the beginning "food allergy" we specifically asked for gluten free rolls and twice baked potatoes as they both have gluten free sensitivity. Food came out with the fries (not gluten free) touching the rolls. Were told rolls were changed. (Let's hope), manager came over to ask how things were me we told him what happened. No offer of anything, no discount, no offer of dessert. No compensation for possible food contamination. First time here, will be last. read more

Had my family there for my wife's birthday. There were 17 of us. Reservation was handled well and our waiter, Justin, was very attentive and took great care of us. Houlihan's is shrinking so fast, you just hope they don't close the location before you finish lunch. That said, there are far worse places to go for a burger and fries. Service is on point and the menu is what you've seen a thousand times before at every chain sporting a focus group pub concept... from the long-deceased Bennigans to the nearly defunct Twisted Kilt... burgers, paninis, vaguely Italian pasta and French Onion Nachos. No matter, I'm not looking for a wedding venue just a quick pitstop for lunch. If they get the burger right and match it with freshly prepared fries, I'm happy. Four solid stars. read more

I have been going to Houlihans in HOLMDEL for 20 years. I used to go three and four times a week. As with any other restaurant prices are going up food is being less and less happy hour is not very happy anymore. Prices are higher than other peoples happy hours and more to choose on the menus . Sad how things have changed for Houlihans.. I'm gonna go back to the brass rail in Matawan, New Jersey. Price is lower prime ribs are the best and menu is very reasonable.. sad read more

We have come here a few times and the food has always been good. Service on the other hand has been good and bad. Tonight we had the pleasure of having Stephanie and she was amazing. I don't usually leave reviews, but this one had to be said. Last night we took my daughter out for her 21st birthday to Houlihans and we had great food with exceptional service. Our server Sabrena went above and beyond to help make my daughter's birthday extra special. When it came time for dessert I ran back to see about singing for her birthday and could not find our server as she slipped into another section of the restaurant, so I came across Cheryl who was dressed in her spirited St Patty's Day outfit. I had asked about our server and where I could find her and she immediately stopped what she was doing to help locate my waitress. She was so sweet and kind. Sabrena came back with a beautiful decorated brownie Sunday with a candle on top. She even waited to bring the dessert to our table until our full party was back from their bathroom break, which I truly appreciated. It is the little things that people do that make experiences extra special. I felt that both ladies went above and beyond to help make our dinner and her birthday extra special. My husband and I go out to dinner often and very rarely do you have people in the restaurant business make you feel as special as these ladies did. Houlihan's is conveniently located in the Holmdel Commons Plaza (which a few local shops), off the highway. Pending on the date and time, I would recommend making reservations, as it does get busy on weekends. Previously, the inside of houlihan's was always dimly lit- no matter the time of day. More recently, it seems they've undergone renovations to brighten the place up. Something that I have to commend houlihan's on is their service. Each time I've gone to houlihan's, the service has always been commendable. The one bartender, Joey, is a staple in the bar; and one of the managers, Al, is always pleasant, walking the floor, and rectifying any mistakes if necessary. Typically, my husband and I get a few drinks here, cheese fries for an appetizer, and our respective meals. The drinks are always well made and they have a fun cocktail menu. More recently, I've seen some seasonal additions as well. My husband and I always split the cheese fries, because we are obsessed with their ranch dressing! It has a buttermilk taste to it and is flavorful. On a less positive side, at times, the fries can be a bit over cooked. (This has happened to us a few times.) For dinner, I typically get another app- their spinach dip with cheesy lavosh. (I do make some substitutions to this and it's always done correctly.) my husband gets the ahi tuna, which he found fresh and flavorful. He can do without the slaw it comes with.
