Delicious meals and delightful service! We are all so super fast with any takeout order

This review is long over due but it's better late than never! Maybe in 2023, my boyfriend & I went to Yellow Rose. I ordered a cheesteak sandwich. The steak was practically all fat & grizzle. I was very disappointed also due to the fact that there was barely any meat on the sandwich. I said something to the server about the fatty meat but she didn't say anything. I should have opened my mouth & asked for something else. Also last year I had an omelet which was burnt. I should have sent that back as well. They also have an inferior brand of ketchup. Do you compromise inexpensive prices for quality of food??? Heinz ketchup is the ONLY KETCHUP TO HAVE IN A RESTAURANT. I also had a roast beef dinner (which was good) & chicken parm platter which was good too. If you want a good diner go to New Monmouth Diner in Middletown. Their food is the best & portions are huge. Also I have eaten in Hanger on 36 (breakfast) & they were good. I had poached eggs & they made them perfect. :) :) read more

We have been going to this diner for the past few weeks with no issues !! We went in Mother's day we got there around 8:05 waited for about 2 minutes for someone to seat us , we ordered our food and then the wait began, we didn't get our breakfast until about 25 minutes later, which was not what had happened weeks prior, when we went to check out the woman asked us how was everything !! We said definitely not the same being that we waited much longer than we had than weeks before @ also being that the tables were not packed as in weeks prior !! She replied to us it's mother's day we are busy !! They were busy doing take out orders and not taking care of people at tables in the restaurant !! That's not how you run a restaurant !! YUM! I've been here a handful of times recently, as it's become my favorite diner in the area, and each time the food is so delicious! I've only been here on weekdays so it's very quiet and not busy which I love. The servers are friendly and helpful. The food is very tasty! I've had a breakfast platter with home fries that was excellent, and grilled and fried chicken wraps with fries which is also so good! The fries are great here. I can't wait to try other items on the menu as this feels less like a typical diner and more like a restaurant to me! read more

As a chef i will not lie about how good or bad a place is. The truth is the truth the employees of this establishment should be proud of their service and food . Great job guys. The Boston cream pie is slamming; the coffee too.no milk for me straight black if the coffee is is this good i drink it black The price i paid for all the food including salad and a soup and soda was close to nothing. 40$ for us both My personal experience was excellent and the food was really slamming. All I can say is with my experience of on-site, offsite, catering as a chef in major events worked in quite a few famous and well-known restaurants throughout the state of New Jersey state of New York with the experience that I have with food. I just hope I can relay the right information so I can give you what you need to know about a place. I won't lie. If food sucks or if the servers are dirty the uniforms are disgusting or if the place is sticky if people are rude I have no problem tearing a place down but if the food is great and everything else is good I'm sorry I'm not gonna sit here and misguide anyone. I will let you know and try to guide you to good places to eat. I hate watching people waste their money on bad food bad cooks. So if you wanna follow me, I do appreciate it hit the follow button. I will never miss guide you but taking mind. Everyone has a bad day and a good day it's a hit and miss in most places when you eat. We had 2 Blt lunches with fries and 4 sodas for under 25.00. The food was excellent and the fries always seem to be freshly made.We pass 2 closer diners on our way to Yellow Rose including one I could walk to.Great value and food and a very nice staff. read more

Old school quality and hospitality. You will get prompt service, and coffee is readily available. Probably quality Arabica beans. You can't go wrong with whatever you decide but we ordered the Black Forest Burger multiple times and ate every bit each time. The salad was fresh and plentiful with delicious chicken added. Highly recommend you save room for their cheesecake. Prices are friendlier than competitors with high quality real food. It's a favorite local spot. read more

This is our go to-place in Keyport. Fantastic service and the staff goes out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. The food is so good!! They have a big menu to pick from. Everything we ordered was delicious! The prices are excellent and they give you huge portions . The diner is always clean. We love this place so much we go once a week. The food was delicious, very straightforward in the presentation in terms of the classic food you could order at an American diner. The service was great, our server was fun and upbeat, and she checked in often. The reason I am not giving the 5 stars is due to the lack of concept in space planning. For example, the booth tables are bolted to the wall, offering a huge gap for shorter patrons, especially kids. My wife and I love diners so when we don't know what we want, we often end up at one. We live in Middletown but decided to try a new spot as the local spots are pretty average. We learned this one is a bit more average than the others. We were pretty disappointed in the food and attentiveness of the server. Take a look at my $14 French Dip sandwich with seriously TWO pieces of roast beef on it, on a flat, soggy roll. It's something I could have made at home. I'm not asking for gourmet but how about a nice toasted french bread for a french dip? Not a cross between a ShopRite hot dog/hamburger bun. And maybe 4 pieces of french dip so it's not a flat sandwich I ate in elementary school? I've never had such a skimpy sandwich outside of my house. My wife got the pancake platter with bacon and eggs over easy. Eggs were overcooked, no runny yolks, which ruined it for my wife. Bacon was good, pancakes pretty good. Waitress never asked how things were and I wasn't in the mood to complain on a holiday week so we just paid and left. I came here after seeing a band with friends .I wasn't sure what to expect when we pulled up, it didn't look like your typical diner. It looked more like a small 80's mom and pop diner from the past. There was plenty of seating, there was only my group and one other couple in the place at the time. We were immediately seated by a very nice hostess. It took awhile for our waitress to come over. Our waitress was very nice , she even offered to brew my friends a fresh pot of decaf. The menu had a little bit of everything on it. There is daily specials and a Senior Citizen's menu that is discounted. I ordered the Fried Chicken Salad. A large bowl of mixed greens, diced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, tossed with cheddar cheese and sliced egg with fried chicken fingers and honey mustard dressing on the side. The salad was a nice size and the honey mustard made the salad. It was very filling and hit the spot. My friend ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with well done fries. The Cheeseburger was big and the fries were cooked to her liking. My other friend got the Garden Fresh Spinach Salad with Grilled Chicken. She liked her salad and ate it up. Another friend ordered the Chicken Portobello sandwich and fries. Everyone enjoyed their food. I'm giving the Yelkow Rose 3 stars because the place needs some updating and it wasn't busy and the service was a bit slow. I will say everyone was very nice. Not impressed at all. Went late in the day so maybe that's why. Eggs Benedict was ok. Eggs cooked perfectly but hollandaise sauce was overly salty and not a lot. Home fries are not what I consider home fries, some were slices of potato and others we wedges. Boyfriend had chicken Marsala which he didn't really care for but to be honest after having it at our favorite diner that closed, nothing can compare. Don't think I'd go back. This diner went downhill quick! Food is awful. Service non existent . Even the coffee was old. Had a waffle that was hard like a rock..couldn't get anyone to come over because the servers are non existent. French fries were greasy burger was terrible and omelet was just terrible. So in a nut shell ..food is terrible..service terrible and they let dogs in I'm assuming cause they must know the people . And they were not service dogs! Place was dirty! The inside looks like most other diners, and there is plenty of seating with both booths and tables. There is a full-length bar and a big TV as well. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh, but there wasn't anything unique or exciting about it. It wasn't bad or good. Food: The Yellow Rose Diner has all of the regular diner meals. There are plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. There is even a "Del Rio" special, which long term readers know before living in NJ, I lived in the middle of nowhere, Texas (Del Rio). I've been in a Manhattan Clam Chowder mood and ordered a cup of that. It was hot, and I almost burned my tongue. It was good, but I found there wasn't that many clams and a little too much potato. For my entree, I ordered one of their special salads which came with spinach, cranberries, raisins, bleu cheese, walnuts, onions, and salmon. The salad itself was small, but it was good. I firmly believe any salad should come with bread, so I was disappointed it didn't have that. Other than being small and a lack of bread, it was an overall good salad. Service: The waiter was nice, and our food came out in a relatively fast time. The manager or owner also came over to check on us. I always appreciate when a business owner does that! After a long day at Sandy Hook, you'll want to make a pit stop at The Yellow Rose. It's not grandiose, shiny or flashy- it's not one of those diners with 100+ items that no one would really order. It's a down to earth eatery that really hits the spot. Standout appetizer is their mozzarella sticks- definitely not the greasy artery clogging sticks that typically show up, these were fluffy, crunchy and the mozzarella cheese tasted clean. And for folks who like a good cheese pull, order these. They'll put them in right away. Their black bean burger is made from scratch on a fluffy sesame bun with grilled onions (I bypassed the jalepenos and jalapeno ranch that it came with), and is fantastic. A real good, quaint, diner. The food and service are very hands on. The waiters and waitresses look out for each others customers and alwaays focus on the customer as a team. I travel all the way from Highlands, pass three diners, just to come to this one in Hazlet. Give them a try, you wont be disappointed. read more

I decided to try this diner after a long day at the beach. The staff was really nice and the diner was clean and cozy looking. The food was however not that good to be completely honest. I got the grilled cheese with fries which was not bad but it was alright. However my friend got the "steak" (in the picture) it was $12 and categorized as a steak however appears and tastes like just a big hamburger and this is definitely not a steak. The mash potatoes that came with it were good and their other food might be good but the steak is very deceiving so to any future customers please be aware of what you're ordering when it comes to the steak. read more

Went here for a quick lunch yesterday after a fishing trip. I had the chicken fingers with honey mustard, my boyfriend had the grilled chicken BLT wrap, and his uncle had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. Everything was cooked perfectly and came out piping hot. The fries were especially awesome. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient. My wife and two friends stopped off here on the way back from a cold night in Sandy Hook. I don't like to trash places with nice, hard-working people but... My party ordered a range of cuisines. The meatloaf dinner with like 29 courses "spoke" to my wife, one of our friends ordered "fish and chips," and the other friend ordered some kind of Greek chicken sandwich. I happily ordered a "senior omelet" - sad, but true - I'm over 55... I definitely was the winner. The omelet, home fries, pancakes was a very decent platter of too many carbs. It was good. My wife's meatloaf, indeed, DID speak to her - but not a language you could understand. It was all pretty pathetic - frozen, dry, gritty, tasteless. She took much of it home with her since I will eat anything. The chicken sandwich looked huge. And dry. Not as bad as the meatloaf, but my very nice friend said it was "good" but in a very timid, low voice. The fish and chips was the winner of losers, I feel. It was super-oily, super-fried, and it wasn't caught off the coast of the Atlantic Highlands that day. Or any day. The chips were frozen fries. If you are going to go there for a meal - and there are very good reasons to do so, no other food options for you, you haven't eaten in 30 hours, and you are about to get onto the Garden State Parkway - by all means stop by! Beware, Three times during the year there were dogs in the Yellow Rose diner, one dancing on the table, two barking from the bag they were in. Management said nothing to this Health Dept violation. Therapy dogs wear vests, have paperwork & sit quietly on the floor. So this time no dogs, 3 tables occupied, it's cool & we're hungry. Mom & I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich & a med-rare burger. We got a Philly with no cheese & a raw burger with cheese (?).Both were returned, a dry Philly with melted cheese is not a Philly cheese steak, the burger now med-rare was returned with CHEESE! I don't eat cheese! So add insult to injury Joan the manager comes over to tell me the first burger was med-rare (?) Really! she's going to contradict our order? Absolutely NO respect for two loyal customers for over a decade. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? In this case just make our order right lady, we didn't come here to argue. Was there with my friend for brunch yesterday. When we walked in, the servers were kinda just standing together laughing. Felt very judged automatically. The host was extremely rude and dismissive. Gave us an attitude almost right off the bat. Once we were seated, it took our waitress almost 10 minutes to even greet us. It's not even like they were busy, they just didn't want to do their job. When we received our food about a half hour later, it was extremely cold. All the waitresses did was laugh and whisper in our direction. We felt extremely uncomfortable the entire time. YUCK YUCK YUCK FLIES EVERY WHERE!!! I had barely finished half my plate of an Hot Open-Face Roast Beef and I had 2 flies land on the food. Totally grossing me out and eliminating my appetite in totality. Keep in mind now that this is the SECOND time this occurred at this diner. I kept coming back simply because I enjoy the staff at the diner and the food is not that bad either. Like the old adage goes, "It takes only one bad apple to spoil the bunch" well thats what happened tonight. When I said something to the server about their fly problems she returned with an adjusted bill. They discounted my meal by $1.50 ... OH WOW a whole $1.50. To me that was very, very disrespectful of my business to this establishment that I have been faithfully patronizing. I would of rather heard her say "We don't give a F^%$ about you .... get out" then to say we place a $1.50 value on your business. I'm done here, I have no problem going to any other place that would value my patronage. And to think that this place is owned by the same restauranteur that owns the Cornucopia WOW what a bad hostess you have here totally destroys your image and brand. read more
