My family went out for my brothers birthday and After the hour and a half long wait for food, (understandable because it was busy however) everything was cold. On top of that my brother had left his unopened birthday card with money in it on the table only for it to be taken from one of the servers or most likely one of the bus people. We went right back after only leaving for 5 minutes and the card was gone. The waitress claimed to have seen an empty envelope that was throw out. The manager chris angley was no help and very rude about the entire situation. I used to love this place usually staff is very nice but this was an experience to never forget. I ordered wine that I was familiar with. Realized it wasn't what I had ordered (they gave me the house wine rather than the premium wine I ordered) Manager came over and apologized. Yes it is a chain restaurant, but a very good one. I have been to a few different locations but this is the best-run Houlihan's I've been to. Usually crowded, but the service is always fast and friendly. Wait staff is typically young and not always the most experienced - but they are always very good about checking in at the table, bringing soda refills without having to be asked, etc. Food is consistently good and ranks above most chain restaurant fare. I often have the Navajo chicken pasta which is delicious. Burgers and salads are reliably good as well. They make a good ceasar salad, a simple dish that is often done poorly at other chain restaurants. All in all a good spot for lunch or dinner if you are out shopping in this area. read more

Very Disappointed ! Went to have a good time at the bar last night to watch the soccer game with some friends and the bartender was very unpleasant, throwing stuff around and had a real bad attitude. This same bartender went on by calling the gentlemen (2) in charge morons and idiots , if there something going on take the problems outside don't fight in front of the people trying to enjoy their meal. The other women bartender was very nice and trying to make everyone happy and make up for the male bartender being a jerk ! Excellent, fresh food. All of the dishes are nicely prepared and they stand by their quality. The burgers are top-notched, and so are all their signature dishes, including chicken parmesan, fajitas, jambalaya, salmon and stir fry. The appetizers are nicely done as well. For a chain restaurant, Houlihan's is pretty excellent, especially this location. Service and food quality is spot on and the manager periodically makes rounds to check on tables to ensure guests are enjoying their meals. My family frequents this location and we like to have birthday dinners here because they have something tasty for everyone. This is the first time that I eat at this restaurant chain and I was very impressed. The interior was clean and ambiance was warm and welcoming. I ordered the Ahi tuna Salad and my wife ordered the Scallops. Both orders were delicious and the portions were generous. I hate Houlihan's. Especially the one in Middletown, NJ. The food is not fresh, as much as they want to pretend it is. The meals are not cheap for the bland fare that they're getting. We stopped wasting our time on their dinners and would go just for the nachoes and beers. They tax the beers so you're stuck with some odd change after each order. On 1 occasion, there was a hair in the nachoes (the kind you NEVER want to see in your food). On another occasion, the waiter gave me a pen to sign the check with and it was all chewed up (disgusting!). The service is obnoxious, my girlfriend was on antibiotics and didn't want a drink from the bar, but the waiter kept hasseling her as if he was a fratboy and she was a freshman. Unfortunately if TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays, Chili's, Macaroni Grill, or Carrabbas are your options, you may find yourself at Houlihans. Good luck! Oh and watch out for the police who hang in the shopping center parking lot around closing time looking for people to pull over. I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign IN THE parking lot. There were 0 cars around since all the stores were LONG closed. I was obviously sober, but had to walk the line anyway. Just avoid the place altogether. read more

The food is good and reliable. The Customer Service is excellent. For example, if we have a small error in an order, a manager will come around and apologize and usually offer a free desert or coupon for a free appetizer. Sometimes I think some of the meals are a bit too expensive for a chain restaurant. But overall, they're good. I say go for selections like a burger or chicken sandwich. read more

I like Houlihans in general but this location is awful. In the past I've encountered nasty hostesses and poor service. The hostess staff have an attitude as well as the manager named Len. I called to make a reservation for 7 people and was told by the hostess that they don't take reservations. I asked to speak to the manager and after I had to explain why to the hostess with an attitude, she put the manager on the line. I explain that I just had surgery and it is my husbands Birthday and I need to have a reservation because I can't stand and that I googled this location and it states that you take reservations. He stated that his location does not take reservations and I said, you need to make that correction on the search engine because it states that your location does take them. He insisted that wasn't true and I could call ahead and they will try to hold a table. So much for your customer service skills Mr Len. Before you make statements you should LISTEN to the customer. Well, his loss, not mine. Both Google and Yelp state that Houlihans on Route 35 takes reservations. I had a delicious lunch with my brother for his birthday the server was wonderful however my credit card was charged for a tip which I did not authorize. I paid for the lunch with my credit card and left a generous cash tip. When I left the restaurant the charge was correct and a week later my credit card sent me a heads up that a tip was added to my credit card. I called the credit card company and filed a dispute I also reported it to the manager he was to call me back didn't hear from him. read more

I am not a fan of chain restaurants and try to avoid them, but I decided to give Houlihans a try after being fed up with the lack of restaurant choices In and around the area. Stopped by for dinner last Sunday (late afternoon) and was pleasantly surprised.If you're driving back from the Asbury, ocean grove beaches to Brooklyn Houlihans is a great option. My husband who is very particular about his steaks ordered the prime rib steak and I wasn't expecting much.But I was blown away by the massive size and thickness of it. It was also extremely tender and tasty. The fried calamari was crispy and cut into thin strips which we all enjoyed. The portions from the children's menu are huge too. My daughter ordered the chicken with vegetables and potatoes which easily could have been shared between both of my 6 yos.My son ordered the double mini burgers from the kids menu and they easily could feed an adult. I ordered a side salad with mixed greens and arugula which is my favorite and the mixed appetizers to share with everyone which included loaded potato skins, stuffed mushrooms,buffalo chicken wings and it was all good and tasty albeit fried. The warm apple pie desert with vanilla ice cream was delicious & monstrously huge which all 4 of us(2 adults & 2 kids) shared. Next time we will probably share only 2 entrees otherwise its must too much food. Overall a very pleasant dining experience. Very Clean establishment, attentive staff. Good food.Yes , eat here!!!!!!! The service was great, her name was Caitlin. Unfortunately, I ordered the early bird special which was the pot roast. First, it wasn't pot roast it was beef stew, very salty and not tender. The server/manager took it off the check and gave me a coupon for a free meal. They also let me have the dessert that came with the early bird special. There's now nothing on the menu for a vegan except lettuce in a salad. I absolutely LOVED the hummus and last time I went it was gone off the menu. Please bring it back! Been frequenting for about 13 years. Staff and mgrs. are very attentive and friendly. Salmon coriander, prime rib, sautéed tilapia, pot roast, salads, blackened fishes, chicken marsala, and tuscany chicken are all tasty choices. The burgers are not as big as they used to be, so if I get one, I would have to get a soup with it. It's a bit loud in the restaurant, which is big. I am a frequent customer here and always stop in with friends to take advantage of the half priced apps. Unfortunately I had thought the half priced apps on a Sunday were the same as any other week day. When I addressed it to the waitress that she forgot to take the discounts off she informed me that it started at 10pm and we had arrived around 9pm an hour earlier. She was extremely kind and I had asked her if there was a possibility that the manager could make an exception because we all ordered appetizers, even though it was 100% my fault for not knowing it started at 10pm. I had just assumed it was half priced apps because I go there so often and wasn't even aware of the fact there was a specific time for the deal. When the manager Fred came over to the table he very rudely asked if we did not have enough money to pay the bill. As someone who has worked with people I was completely baffled by such a rude thing to ask it completely turned me off to probably ever coming back to this restaurant. You do not say that to your customers, even if they are younger customers and to assume we were incapable of paying the full bill. Just plain old rude. I thought there was a possibility they would make an exception since we were an hour early and I made the mistake of inviting my friends out to a restaurant they have never been to to get a couple quick appetizers. And on a side note our food took quite a long time to come out and the calamari and 2 crab cake dishes had been cold.
