Here comes a rollercoaster! I'm visiting family and they decided that we do pick-up here. Not the best choice. I walk in and see how packed the restaurant is. I'm thinking, "Wow. Must've made the right choice." I smile at the three employees staring back at me. They're standing like zombies looking like they just want to go home. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I truly understand how some days are too much. However, you want to make the guest feel welcomed. No welcoming was given. I then asked, "Where I could grab my pick-up?" They pointed to the bar area and said, "At the bar." I thank them then walk to the bar. I am now standing behind an empty bar stool. The bartender is talking to a gentleman to my left. I wait patiently for the bartender to acknowledge me, but it doesn't happen. Instead, the gentleman to my right offers the empty seat I am standing behind. I politely decline and tell him I am waiting for pick-up. He tells me, "Oh, you can just grab it off the cart. It has your name on it." I grabbed my bag and walked back towards the front. The previous three employees are talking to each other and don't say anything. I am used to being told, "Thanks for coming in. Have a great night." But that was missing The food overall was great! First time here and I only had pick-up. I WILL go back to see if they can redeem theirselves. 2 Stars for customer service. read more

My wife and I love this restaurant! Every time we leave Houlihan's, we tell each other that we should eat here more often. Great for lunch, dinner, and happy hour! Everything has a modern design from the continously evolving menu, to the upscale ambiance, and the creative plating of dishes. The service is always excellent. Sit at the bar for a handcrafted cocktail while watching the big game. Make sure to get here early because it's a crowd favorite and the parking at this location is limited. Food is made pretty good. Salmon, asparagus and mashed taters. Drinks.... Don't matter where which one ya go too, they're always going to be mediocre. It all depends on what bar tender you get who knows how to make a drink. All day Happy Hour on Sundays is great. Don't get them big ass pitcher drinks, instead opt for the same liquor in a tall glass. Nachos are great. Ask for the chips on the side instead of with the toppings. Why is it that whenever we've been traveling all day, we all seemingly gravitate towards chain restaurants for dinner? Is it because we've been on the road, on the rails, or in my case in the air for several hours and we just want something familiar? Just how different is the Houlihan's in Lees Summit, MO from the one in Mt. Lebanon, PA? Truth is, it isn't. We have two Houlihan's in or near Pittsburgh, where I'm from. We've got one in the Station Square Mall and one in the aforementioned suburb of Mt. Lebanon. And the menus are almost exactly the same. I used to think the Brentwood Chicken Sandwich was named for the suburb of Brentwood, PA! But Houlihan's is better than most chain places, so I'd rate it 3.5 stars. Well I went for the Brentwood Chicken again--smoked bacon, gouda cheese, dijon-spiked mayo, baby greens and with a side of peanut ginger slaw. Ain't I glad I have no food allergies! I am however a type-1 diabetic and after a slice of that bourbon pecan pie, it was "Pump that insulin, Susan. Pump! And hit the hotel gym afterwards! I visited the Lee's Summit location on 11/06/2021. It was my birthday and my friend treated me to lunch here. Our waitress was indifferent and it seemed she didn't want to be there. The food was good, but the waitresses attitude made us feel we were a bother instead of a customers celebrating a birthday. Even after several mentions that it was my birthday I never got told Happy Birthday or asked if we'd like dessert. I had to wait about 10 minutes after food was given for buffalo sauce. I get it that some people don't like anything that is a chain or franchise, but I have to say I am having a love affair with the Lee's Summit Houlihans! I have never been disappointed there. About 90% of the time they nail it; food, service and atmosphere are excellent. And frankly, it's one of the best places to eat in Lee's Summit...especially good for a date night or meeting friends. The new 'small plates' menu is very cool. The plates really are quite 'small' servings, but if you share 3 or 4 with someone it's a fun sampler-type meal. I love the martini flights and am enchanted by the 'mini' desserts they have. Giant desserts often dissuade me from ordering one at all, but a few bites is GRAND! I noticed today they have added a kid's menu which I do not believe they had before. The 'slider' options (specifically the pulled pork and burger) were very good. I have tried many different items on the menu and have enjoyed them all. The baby-back ribs are to die for and on the flip side, the salads are great too. If you do end up unhappy, speak to a manager. I understand they are eager to recitfy any problems. From what I've heard from others, any problems (messed up orders, cold food, etc. ) seem to stem from a bad server. read more

It was Hubby's Birthday and we were looking for someplace that we haven't visited before to get a little more upscale meal. It's been quite a few years since we went to a Houlihan's and we decided to check out the one in Lee's Summit. For 4:35 in the afternoon the parking lot seemed pretty full until we reminded ourselves it's Friday and probably happy hour. Then it all made sense. At Houlihan's on Friday after work in Lee's Summit people are more than ready to 'un-wind' and that was definitely happening inside. The noise level was way-way up and stayed that way for our whole meal. I ordered Seared Georges Bank Scallops, lemon-asparagus risotto, baby radish greens and a basil-infused olive oil. It was a nicely executed dish and an interesting combination of textures and flavors. I've never had Georges Bank scallops before so I have no idea whether these are how they generally are, but my observation is that they were extremely mildly flavored (not much flavor) and had a very soft mouth-feel. Certainly not much like the wonderful scallops I have eaten in the past. (I am generally very fond of scallops) And I would say that I don't much care whether I ever have them again. But that really isn't necessarily the fault of the restaurant or of the Chef. It may have been just a matter of my personal preference. Hubby ordered Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo pasta with fontina, provolone and romano cheeses in a rich and creamy sauce. He commented that the serving of grilled chicken was very generous and moist and flavorful. Our service was just okay but not especially attentive and, as I have already mentioned, the noise level was an issue through out the meal. So, all in all, I can only give Houlihan's just under three stars and won't probably go back when there are so many other places in the Kansas City area that suit my personal tastes better. read more

"carb to coast". I am often skeptical of seafood dishes here in flyover country, but I tried the seared scallops with asparagus risotto. It was superb and I highly recommend it. read more

Yeah, food was good, drink prices in happy hour are awesome, but some of the customers in the bar area are just too much, seriously being loud and obnoxious is very rude to other patrons and bending your girl over and slapping her ass while she squeals in mock pain is just unacceptable. I tried to write Houlihan's in private via their website hoping to come to some closure on the terrible night we had but it's been 5 days and I haven't heard anything...Looks like corporate is just as bad at service as they are in the restaurants themselves. We came in last night (6/5) and sat at the bar to have dinner. We have come here about once a month for years and have NEVER had an experience like last night. Both times that we have come and had service by this bartender, it is atrocious. She has an incredibly terrible attitude and makes the whole experience awful. I don't know her name but she is a shorter woman, blond or light brown hair, and a cranky air that is hard to miss. She greets her regulars with a smile and conversation and all but ignored us (sitting right next to them). She ordered us the wrong food and we had to get up from our seat to ask for plates and napkins to eat with. I sat with an empty drink hoping to get another and by the time she sauntered over and mumbled at me, I was no longer interested and wanted to leave. We had to ask twice for napkins and she finally reluctantly tossed a stack of bar napkins at us. We come to Houlihan's because we like the food, the service is usually awesome, and it's a good excuse to have a couple of drinks. When the service sucks like it did last night, not only do we spend a lot less money because we leave sooner but it makes us second guess coming back. I hope that in the future this girl checks her attitude at the door or tries a different industry. This place is always busy for a reason: good food, decent prices, beautiful/classy interior, and party-like atmosphere. Though it's a chain - it's a chain that started here in KC. That said, it's by far one of the nicest - if not the nicest - places to eat in Lee's Summit. Best time to visit is during Happy Hour, or Reverse Happy House (see Yelp app or location details for times). All LIT's are 1/2 off. The blue LIT - God know I drank so much I can't remember the name of the thing - is like heaven in a frosted mug. Their appetizers are delicious. My husband orders the sliders as a meal and I can't get enough of their fried pickles Their veggie burger with steak fries is solid. But I still can't get my mind off of that blue LIT. And that one waiter that kind of sucked. All the rest of them have been great. Give yourself plenty of time for seating, though you can start at the bar and work your way to the dining room area. Lots of out-door seating when the weather is nice. Oh, and you can drag your sport-loving friends here instead of having to go to BW's thanks to the TV's at the bar and loud buzz of the place. read more

I went here for dinner last night with my Mother, a sister and her hubby and their son. We were quickly seated and our server was helpful and friendly, and checked back several times during the evening to be sure everything was OK. The wait for our food wasn't very long in spite of all the business they were doing. We did have enough time to enjoy the atmosphere, and have a good conversation catching up on what's been going on in our lives lately, and chatting with a couple friends who came over on their way out. Houlihan's menus had lots of great choices, and it was hard to decide what to have. Mom had the small plate pulled smoked pork slider topped with pickle "fries", and, although she couldn't quite get her mind wrapped around the idea of fried pickles, enjoyed it. My nephew had the hand-breaded chicken fingers with cole slaw and fries, and the chicken looked so good, I had to restrain myself from reaching over and grabbing a couple! Sis and her hubby both had the Chicken Asian Chop Chop, and enjoyed every bite. I finally decided on the French dip that came with an excellent au jus and crispy fries. Very good. I'm always leary of ordering a beef sandwich. There's always a chance the meat will be fatty, or stringy, or both, but this was perfect. We shared desserts: one bourbon pecan pie, and one creme brulee. Those sharing the pie were happier than those sharing the brulee, which was not as thick and firm as expected, and which had only the thinnest film of caramel glaze and half a strawberry on top. It was our first creme brulee, and maybe we were just expecting too much. I'm a cheapskate who usually eats at fast food places with coupons, so the prices here make me wince, but I'd gladly come back, especially if someone else is paying! read more

As I'm sitting here for the second time in a week I decided I'd better write a review. Let me just saw I love this Houlihans! The entire staff is consistently courteous and attentive, and they will even throw in a chocolate chip cookie with your lunch order (even "to-go" orders). My good friends and I will always choose this Houlihans for our lunch or dinner dates. It's close to shopping and right off the highway, making it convenient for an afternoon of shopping and dining with friends. I have absolutely fallin in love with their French onion soup!! It is amazing, truly a must try!! It is smothered in yummy melted cheese and served nice and hot! Sure to warm you up on a cold winter day. Their Ahi Tuna appetizer is a perfect lunch companion to the French onion soup and will leave you craving it again, very soon! Was never so disappointed in a meal as I was this evening. I have always enjoyed the happy hour menu and adult beverages at Houlihan's, so this time we tried dinner, for KC Restaurant Week, and ate off the RW menu. My friend ordered the steak and it was perfect. I ordered steak enchiladas, and it was thoroughly disgusting. It stated "house made enchilada sauce", so was hoping to be bowled over, but they were itty bites of steak, spaced sparingly in a doughy mess, no cheese, and a very icky sauce. It was accompanied by "street corn" which was basically corn sprinkled with paprika, and a rubbery pepper skin, stuffed with nacho cheese and a few wads of sausage...ugh. I have never been so disappointed in an entree. On a better note, the appetizers (spicy ckn and avocado egg rolls, and avocado toast with cheese) were on point, and very well presented. And the desserts were awesome. I had the Pots de Creme, and my friend had brownie cake with fudge topping that was very chocolaty. Next time, we will just stick to appetizers, I think. Good beverages too. And the service was good. But alas...mental note: do not order Mexican food from an American food establishment. read more

Went for happy hour at 315 sat at the bar the bartender said I'll be with you in a minute didn't give us water or menus proceeded to wait on a large party and 4 other tables 1 which sat after we arrived. Once behind the bar I had to ask for menus and drinks while she got orders for the other tables. Still no drinks she severed drinks to all the others again waited while she was getting drinks for others asked again placed our order. A lady from the patio asked for a drink she told her she was busy and couldn't do it right now. I've worked restaurants she just can't multitask. We had to ask for refills she continued to serve others. I asked again for our 2 drinks she gave me one confirmed the second drink then took orders for 2 tables came back got their drink and served them. I had to ask a third time for a beer. The bartender spilled water when serving the table behind me never cleaned it up. Never took our empty plates until pushed to toward the bar. I had to ask for a box and our ticket she over charged said it was a mistake took probably 10 minutes to get a box. I'm a great tipper I didn't tip well and I feel that was to much. I use to be a regular there but since last fall I have stopped going there due to horrible service and food is hit and miss on quality. She wasn't friendly from the time we sat down. She left other patrons (who she also overcharged and they brought it to her attention) dirty plates at the bar once they left for probably 30 minutes they were still there when we left. She was not that busy and if she needed help she should have asked her manager. I never post reviews but it's horrible to got out and end up irritated because I could have had better at home or even some fast food restaurants. read more

Grew up in Kansas City and started my career in Houston and over time those locations closed. Got reacquainted this weekend for a birthday lunch and it was great. The menu had quite a variety and for lunch offered great combos - I chose the salmon and husband the fish and chips. Both were great! Houlihan's has one of the best happy hours available. During happy hour the appetizers are cheap and so are the drinks. If you go on Tuesday, I think it is, all bottles of wine are 50% off. If you can't drink the whole thing, which I don't know why you wouldn't ;) , they can seal it up and bag it so you can have it. Their chicken Alfredo. The sauce is very rich and creamy you can actually taste the hints of nutmeg present. The chicken was marinated well and grilled to perfection. The chicken had tones of citrus and garlic with herbs it was very tasty. Unfortunately, the pasta it was not fresh. It's seem to be a little bit on the underdone side.
