My husband and I always have a good experience at the Houlihan's in Lee's Summit. Service is always good and so is the food. Prices are decent. One of the best happy hours in town! I love houilhans!!! My server unfortunately was not very skilled but I'll still go back. He almost poisoned me with a margarita that had orange juice after specifically saying I couldn't have it. I came here again the other day, trying to give this place another shot even though I have been overcharged with a tip that does not meet what I left. Other times I've been here where someone was cleaning as we were trying to eat (at least an hour before closing). Well, once again this time I had left a tip and was overcharged with what I am guessing was a write-in. The total was reversed in numbers with how it came out of our account. Anyhow, I have called twice and have spoken with at least two managers. The first manager said that she would contact their accounting department and that a refund would be sent to our bank account in 3 to 5 business days. I called over a week later when no refund had been sent, and this time I got a hold of another manager who said that there had been some delay in refunds from their accounting department. I was getting the impression that this overcharging may be a standard issue there. Anyhow, this manager said that she would look into it and contact me. I gave her my contact info and went over the receipt I had. She claimed that she would call me back soon, and of course I never got a call back. It has been three days. read more

HORRIBLE!!!! My son got the kids pizza and fries. Visually the fries looked overcooked, which they were. I ordered the KC strip with fries and macaroni. The sides were blend, no seasoning at all, but wasn't even the worst thing! The steak was cooked good on the inside but the outside tasted burnt!!!!! They must have burnt something on the grill and didn't clean it off before they made my steak! I literally only ate 2 bites. This was my first time to Houlihan's and my partner's umpteenth time. He has loved this place and has had many good drinks, food and service. He likes the bar atmosphere with the indoor and outdoor seating and loved the disco fries that are no longer on the menu. I, on the other hand, have some very different thoughts. The four of us were seated at a table and I ordered a Tito's martini up, dry with a lemon twist. The server comes back and says, "would you like a single or double?". I thought this was weird. I order martinis all the time and I never been asked this question. I answered single. What was brought to me was a martini glass half full of crushed ice floating on top of the drink. It looked like a martini slushy. The whole idea behind ordering "up" is the liquid is chilled in the shaker and strained into a chilled glass. I sent it back the second one came back made with a lemon-flavored vodka. I drink enough Titos to know when it's not Titos. I don't know if the issue was the server or the bartender. In any case, I sent it back and had a glass of wine instead. The food was mediocre at best. My partner ordered the pot roast. The vegetables were on the hard side, so not cooked with the meat. The menu described it with a red wine sauce, but no sauce on the plate unless it was all absorbed by the mashed potatoes. Our friends split an entree and we were not charged a fee for splitting. Starting with positive. I sat at the bar 3 pm. Bartender and staff were attentive and friendly. Ordered a few happy hour apps. The seared tuna delicious as always. I also got the chicken lettuce wraps. They were not as impressive as in the past. It was a way smaller portion and served with limp butter lettuce. Went to this location to meet a colleague for an early working dinner, about 4:00 on a weekday. We told our greeter and server we'd be there for awhile. We were assured that was not a problem. We each ordered cocktails, appetizers, an entree, and dessert. We were preparing to order coffee and get down to work when our server asked us if we would mind leaving as he wanted to join our table with another one to seat a group of 8 coming in. I took my mother out for a light lunch at Houlihan's this week. I had the seared ahi tuna appetizer as my lunch. Excellent quality tuna seared perfectly. The sauce was a little sweet for me so I removed it and used the wasabi sauce instead. My only recommendation is to turn down the arctic air conditioner. hadn't been here in a long time but looking for somewhere different to eat. ordered chicken strips and fries. strips were hot but dark and overcooked, a bit dry. the fries were stone cold. my dinner date ordered fish and chips. fish was very thin and overcooked and a bit dry. the 'potato chips' were not crisp and not real hot. overall just not a good meal and this visit will be our last. read more

I Come here for the happy hour and $5 LITS, they make the best long islands in town in my opinion. Trust me, I've tried them at different bars in town like stewys, Konrads, 54th, bricks, etc. and they are not as good as Houlihans. I always get a LIT here because they are the best and you only need 1. Plus $5 apps while sipping at the bar isn't bad either. Have probably had everything at least once on the happy hour food menu. Rarely have had long wait times but can only do happy hour at patio or bar area so if you go during a prime busy time likely won't get seating. read more

Oh my GAWD!! This place has stepped up the food quality over the past year. Got the steak wedge salad tonight. Absolutely wonderful. Those polenta croutons and the real slices of Gorgonzola=to die for!! French onion soup was just fabulous. Rich, perfectly seasoned stock and bubbly, brown Swiss cheese. Small plates for happy hour and great drink specials. They make a garlic aioli to go with the fries that is stunner. Only thing I can say is the drink service was pretty slow. For some reason I don't like this place. Maybe I like the ones in other places but this one just has a weird vibe. The location is good, near other things but the sunken bar set up is awkward. And it is hard to get inside the bathroom to change the baby. Food is ok. Good prices. Very wide selection but it seems like small portions. So maybe the price isn't that great!? We were out riding the motorcycle and looking for a place that was open with outdoor seating. We landed on this place and it was perfect. Julia took great care of us. My DH had the chicken tenders. They were delicious plus the fries were spot on. I had the french dip with a side salad. The aus jus was a tad salty but the sandwich itself was perfect. The weather was beyond amazing. So between the weather, the service, the food, and the outdoor seating, our night out felt almost normal. Good times. read more

When it comes to chains, Houlihan's surpasses most assumed standards. I made a quick lunch pit-stop at this location on a beautiful Spring afternoon. The host convinced me to sit on the patio and I'm glad that I did. The patio service was attentive and never felt like they forgot about me. Houlihan's menu is large and diverse. The fish tacos I ordered were fresh and delicious. I opted for a side of mashed potatoes and loved every bite. In my opinion, Houlihan's does everything right. read more

We love Houlihan's fish tacos and their sweet potato fries! Overall, we appreciate the nice setting, good service, and great food. But what really keeps us coming back are their frequent coupons and special offers we get via email (just wish they had a slightly longer shelf-life than the few days they usually give you to use them). This most recent visit was for my birthday, and of course we had a coupon (They also usually send me a "Halfty Birthday" offer midway through the year, so I'll get the same BOGO entre offer again in six months). I also appreciate that they frequently have special supplemental menus that give us a chance to try something different, and yet they don't take my old favorites off the menu. Houlihans is a hip modern American restaurant. Talk about food presentation that also tastes great. We started our meal by ordering calamari as an appetizer. It came with a spicy dipping sauce that I thought was unique (see posted picture). I enjoyed every bite of the fried multi-legged baby squid. Next I ordered the Seared rare Ahi tuna tacos and my dinner companion ordered the Mandarin Grilled Chicken Salad (see below for more detail). I loved these tacos. Just when you think you have tried every kind of tacos someone comes up with something that tastes new. My dinner companion also enjoyed her chicken salad. We ended our dinner with a drink order. I got a 22 ounce Guinness (my usual) and my companion got a chocolate martini. The Guinness came in a really cool glass. I wonder where I can get a set? The martini looked very unique with a HoHos looking chocolate treat stuck to the rim. We both enjoyed our drinks and absorbed the pleasing atmosphere. They have a nice patio area and the bar looked like a cool place to hang out. I thought it was a little dark but the lighting was pretty neat. The decor inside had a sort of frank lloyd wright design. The bathrooms were also nice which I know is important for you ladies. I was so happy when Houlihan's opened in Lee's Summit. There are so many things I love about it. My favorite has to be their "Seared Ahi Tuna Salad". It's perfection! I've never had anything like it! I also love the outdoor patio & the martini flights and the mini desserts, very fun! The reason it didn't get 5 stars, the noise level is very high, it's hard to have a conversation. And when I order the Brentwood Chicken Sandwich, the bacon is never crisp. Oh, and make sure to sign up for the Birthday Club! I get a free meal every year on my Birthday month, love that! read more

Houlihan's - Seared Ahi Tuna Salad - Bars Near Me - Lee's Summit, Missouri

Well, it was good while it lasted... I discovered the Lee's Summit Houlihan's many months ago and was thrilled that not only do they have a menu which exclaims: "Flexitarians welcome", kindly lists vegetarian and gluten-sensitive options they also have ahi tuna, which I happen to love. Houlihan's has a $10.95 Char-crusted ahi tuna with Thai chili glaze app which comes with Asian slaw atop a wonton crostini with side of wasabi mayo and a side of Thai chili sauce and tastes delicious. The price could stand to be a few dollars cheaper because it is an appetizer and it's not big. Once I discovered how good it was though, I would order two because it's lightweight, which I really like, and so I could have it two at separate meals. I've tried a few other other menu items, but didn't like them very much. Anyway, I got my usual 2 orders about a week and a half ago and was disappointed to find that one of the wontons was over cooked which made it greasy-- like if you let a paper towel soak up oil-- so not edible. The other wonton was fine so I didn't call to complain and simply threw away the greasy one and split the good one between my 2 meals. Last night is the reason I'm not going to eat at this place anymore. I placed my usual order and the girl was nice but started out in a normal speaking pace then suddenly sped up as though she really needed to go. I pushed twice to confirm that she heard me say I wanted 2 of that one app, which was a good thing because she only had one. Someone picked up my food and I was very disappointed to find that it wasn't what I ordered. They opened it and showed it to him and he saw ahi tuna and some lettuce so he thought it was okay. Nope. What they gave me was their Char-Crusted Ahi tuna SALADs which has cashews, banana chips, carrots, scallions, cilantro, crisp wontons and banana-ginger vinaigrette. It may taste good-idk- but it didn't sound, look, nor smell like something *I* could stomach. Mistakes happen, so hungry as I was that wasn't that big of a deal to me. The issue was that I spoke to someone who is apparently named Peter and who is apparently a manager and who apparently was only focused on trying to convince me that I got an "upgrade" --not in my opinion though-- and also, somewhat subtly, but firmly suggested multiple times that it was my fault they gave me the wrong food. He tried to insinuate that I must have ordered the salad and also pushed that the food had been shown upon pick up. I explained that I wanted the correct food not the "upgrade". An apology was not part of his vocabulary. He wasn't blatantly rude, but he wasn't exactly empathetic nor did he give me the impression that he was trying to keep me as a customer. That was bad enough and I probably would've just not eaten there for a couple of months then picked back up in the spring because I was told that the the girl who took the order was nice and apologetic about having done something that caused the error (because I did get charged the correct, price which is lower priced than the salad, but it somehow it was the wrong food.) I work nights which is why I don't go get the food myself so when I did get the correct food delivered to me, I moved the lettuce to see that BOTH the wontons were in that gross greasy state, the ahi also had an icky greasy texture --like when cold brisket has that solid shortening-like fat on it--and it was was not seasoned like usual and I just couldn't bear to eat it like that so that that left me with some chopped lettuce aka "Asian slaw", some sauces including that strong smelling banana-ginger vinaigrette -- which I had to dispose of far away from my desk--and for some new, odd and unknown reason, a couple of lime wedges, all for $24 --yay. *Sigh* read more

I too would also give zero stars if possible. We planned on being in KC over Christmas and as I had done the year before, made reservations for Christmas day months in advance at the Lee Summit location. Since we are from out of town and due to the fact that not many restaurants are open on Christmas, wanted to make sure that we had somewhere to eat. We showed up a few minutes after our reservation was cancelled on Open Table. I did not understand why it had been cancelled. As we walked up to the door we saw people in the restaurant, but the front entry was locked and lights were off. Someone was coming out and they said I think they are closing early tonight, I replied I have a reservation. When we opened the door a very young girl came over and said that they had closed early. I explained we had a reservation made months ago. She said well we are closed because they took too many walk ins and there kitchen was overwhelmed. As stated on a previous review they knew how many reservations they had booked and basically did not care and filled up with walk ins. We encountered several other parties arrive after ours and they also had reservations. This restaurant gives Open Table a bad name, as I also have never had this issue with Open Table. Looking at prior reviews, based on the food quality at the Lee Summit location, maybe good thing we didn't waste our money. I will not make the same mistake next time we are travel to KC and will look for other alternatives for dining. read more

Food is great most of the time but don't ever tell management if you have a problem. My husband and I were treated so poorly by 2 managers at this place. One of our orders was completely messed up, cold, soggy and overcooked. All 3 meals were disgusting. We spoke to a male manager just to let him know to check on his kitchen staff and he aggressively said "we don't give refunds". I didn't ask for a refund nor did I plan to. After 10 mins of him basically defending the horrible food he offered us a credit on the exact food next time we came in. He said all we had to do was mention his name. Well,I took a bunch of notes with his name and dates etc. We went in a few weeks later with my notes and the receipt and the same manager told us he couldn't give us a credit on the new meal. Then some other manger came over and said they never give credits. During this time multiple servers and kitchen staff were huddled around the first manager and it felt like they were talking about us. My complaint isn't about the credit because that wasn't the goal in the first place. My complaint is that they treated us like we were trying to scam them for a free meal. I used to take coworkers to lunch there often and my family ate there multiple times a month. The meal they messed up was my Mother in laws birthday meal which was back in June. Just out of curiosity I looked to see how much we had spent at this location in the first 6 months of the year and it was over 2k. I placed a review on Google when this first happened and no one ever responded. Now I don't even see my review. So here's my warning, if you want to spend $100 on a meal and then feel like crap because of how the managers treat you when you aren't happy with it then this is the place to go.
