Bristol has always been one of my favorite restaurants but I have usually reserved it for brunch or special occasions. A few weeks ago I foolishly spent $14 at a fast food place for a Black Bean Burger meal. A black bean burger, a medium sized iced tea, and fries cost me $14. FAST FORWARD to a day I decided to treat myself to a nice lunch at Bristol. I sat at the bar and was treated like gold. Folks, for $23 I had the BEST LOBSTER ROLL I HAVE EVER HAD, and kick-ass green beans AND their BOMB biscuits. For NINE DOLLARS more than a drive-thru I was given this gift, Even better? I only ate half of this meal and the hubs ate the other half at home. It was enough for TWO meals. I will be treating myself a lot more often. You should do the same! read more

An amazing experience at Bristol Seafood Grill in Leawood, Kansas! This upscale restaurant truly knows how to give each guest a personalized, memorable dining experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed the catch of the day -- salmon -- paired with caramelized carrots and mashed potatoes, along with a cup of their incredible lobster soup. Everything was savory, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. You can really tell the kitchen puts care and attention into every dish. This has been our favorite date night for years but I think that tradition is ending. It's so expensive and not as good of quality. We just spent $80 for two appetizers, a side salad and two drinks at happy hour. Quality wasn't as good as it used to be either. Their beer selection is limited. One serving of fresh fish is $40-$58. Used to be $30-$38. I know inflation is there but that's a big jump. Go during happy hour though or it's even more expensive. Get there at 4. Love the atmosphere at the bar. This is one of our favorite restaurants as we really enjoy good seafood. Bristol is always crowded so you know it's good. The service is also very friendly and prompt. The environment can get quite loud and hard to hear at your table, but the rooms are charming nonetheless. The good-great waiter named Aaron, great atmosphere. I was there for lunch with friends to celebrate their birthdays. They love seafood and although I don't eat seafood their dishes looked fabulous. This was my first time there. I ordered the angus burger. I noticed they do steaks so I imagined that they could knock out a delish hamburger. It's not that difficult! I was wrong. I did not get a 100% black angus patty! It didn't resemble the burger patty I make every day. I'm guessing premade and frozen and not 100% beef. AND It tasted like it was soaked in liquid smoke, which upset my stomach the rest of the day! My advice, don't order the beef! And that was the bad. read more

First things first! Service was great! Happy hour drink specials are a great value. Now the not so great. Wife had a fillet that wasn't cooked right and had to go back. I had a 14oz ribeye and it was cooked correctly but was "charred" and all I could taste was burnt. Steaks had little no seasoning or flavor and for the price definitely wasn't worth it. I did have a walleye fillet with my steak and it may have been the best thing I have eaten in years. Cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. 1st time in and it's restaurant week. Since it's a seafood place had to go with dishes reflected that. First course was a cup of gumbo which very good. Good size shrimp. Also had the goat cheese bruschetta that was incredible. Main course was shrimp bucatini. It had a butter lemon caper sauce that was addictive. And for dessert was chocolate velvet cake. I wanted to use my birthday certificate from The Bristol for lunch, but it turned into a very unpleasant ordeal. I told our server in advance that I had the certificate, and she said to show her when paying. At pay time, she took the certificate, but charged us $32 for each ($64 total) of our $24 entrées. We questioned the price and requested she look again at the menu. First she said the overcharge was because we hadn't ordered entrées, but what else is a meal of salmon and 2 sides? Even the salads were labeled as entrées! She went to consult someone, and returned to say she had to charge us $32 (the DINNER menu price) because the complimentary entrée had to be OVER $25 to use the certificate at all, so we wouldn't have gotten any discount and she'd done us a favor by figuring it the way she did. We showed her the certificate that clearly states you get "a complimentary entree, UP TO $25, with purchase of a second entrée." She said that meant a "complimentary entree OVER $25." So I asked her to please read that part again. She still insisted we were wrong, and that wasn't what it "meant." She left, perhaps to consult someone, came back, and again told us we were wrong. At that point, we asked to see a manager. So she left again, we thought to get a manager, and was gone for quite some time. But she returned without a manager, and said she'd "fix it" "just this one time." Said she'd tried to adjust the charge, but something went wrong and she was afraid the credit card would get rejected if she tried again, so handed us another receipt saying we now OWED another $12, and that the original bill adjustment would show up on my friend's credit card. By then our heads had exploded from her arguments, the confusion, and a lot of time getting nowhere, and with no manager coming, we just wanted out. So I put the out-of-nowhere additional $12 on my card. Later, my friend discovered her card had been charged over $170 for the approximately $60 total bill for her food. She called and got back most of what was owed. I got stuck with the additional bogus $12 charge on a "complimentary birthday dinner," after everything had already been paid the first time around, as it all had to be paid on one card to use the birthday certificate. In the end, the service was the worst I've ever experienced, and a distressing ending to a "Happy Birthday." The biscuits were, as usual, delicious. The salmon and one side were good. The broccolini was seriously overcooked-to-burned. And the desserts were delicious. read more

I have generally always liked the Bristol for its great seafood selections and customer service. However, after visiting the restaurant to celebrate my birthday, I was rather disappointed. I was given a coupon to come celebrate with the Bristol. I made a reservation well in advance but wasn't placed at a table in the main dining room. It looks like you have to designate this now. Instead, we were put in the back room off the bar with all the noise of the bar. That night, there was live music and since we were right by the bar, we had to shout over his playing. Before ordering, I shared my birthday coupon with the server. Not only was the coupon discount wrong on the final bill, but there was no acknowledgement of my special day, not even a thanks for coming in to share it at the Bristol. Service was good, but the lag between pre-dinner salads and the entree was over 45 minutes. Sunday nights are half price bottles for those under $100, so that's nice. Food was good, but server couldn't answer basic questions about preparations. Will probably go back, but do hope for a better experience. read more

I've been a food critic and professional chef for over 40 years and we travel to different restaurants to taste and experience foods from all over the world and the one thing that stood out for us was the utmost professionalism and the can do attitude and the brilliant Customer Service of their General Manager Brittany Padillas!!! She truly cares about her Career as a General Manager and also customer Satisfaction. I was curious to see if they would accommodate an item on their menu, "Lobster and Crab Roll" I am highly allergic to Crab but not Lobster. I asked our server "Ryan" if he could take out the crab because of my allergy and he said absolutely not, he proceeded to say that the "Crab and the Lobster" was a pre-mix and that there was no way it could be done. I knew better but I left it at that. I know that it could be done but I didn't want t to make a fuss. As I was walking to the restroom I came across Ms. Padilla the GM for the restaurant, she asked me how everything was I told her everything was great except for one thing, "The Crab and Lobster Roll" she asked why? I proceeded to tell her about my allergy to crab and what the server had told me. She immediately jumped up and said, we could have absolutely accommodated you and we could have made a "Lobster roll" minus the Crab. She asked if I had a few minutes to wait a few minutes before leaving I said of course so my husband and I waited. 10 minutes later she presented me with the most Delicious fresh and warm "Lobster Roll" that I've ever had. The word no is not in her vocabulary when it comes to Customer Service! I award her as the #1 GM when it comes "Customer Service". We stopped in for the seafood brunch. Four or five buffet stations were strategically placed in the restaurant. It did a good job of breaking up any lines or a small rush, but it also meant diners had to navigate between sections and tables to get their food. The food was really good, though I wish there were more seafood options and you could tell some of the food sat for a bit. Service was fantastic. Some of our party were a little delayed, so we sat and waited for them. Our server - whose name I have unfortunately forgotten - would not accept my apologies for being sat before we were all there and keeping him from making money. He said it evened out in the long run, so we did our best to help him out. He also made sure we had everything we needed for an eventful visit. I'm glad he was there. read more

Celebrated a friend's birthday last Monday. The food, service (Madalyn) & the beautiful surroundings were PERFECT! We both had the Maple Bourbon Salmon. I always have great salmon at the Bristol, but this salmon was Off-the-Chart FANTASTIC--fully cooked, yet moist, tender & totally yummy! Normally I carryout part of my entree, not that day. I couldn't stop until the salmon was gone. Madalyn, our server, was outstanding! Friendly, Attentive, Helpful. Again, we always get good service there, but Madalyn's personality made our meal & the entire experience the BEST you can ever hope for. Cool place. Valet parking free if you spend $100. I had a craving for seafood. My first small disappointment was not a lot of preparation choices. I ordered gumbo. I should know better, but I mixed all the rice in and it was too much. GF got filet. She's ok with a range of temperature but ordered medium and got medium rare. I had the chefs special and was disappointed by the amount of fish and that the dish was served lukewarm. Our waiter was good. We were seated promptly which was a pleasant surprise. As a belated Valentine's Day dinner on 2/15, my husband and I chose to give Bristol a try...and what a right choice we made!!! For our appetizer, we ordered the mini New England lobster rolls. Who says you need to go to Maine to experience a good lobster roll? These rolls were amazing! The lobster mixture was so light and delicious, a perfect, not too heavy start to the meal. For drinks, I ordered the lavender drop and my husband ordered the old fashioned. Both drinks were wonderful! For entrees, I ordered the salmon panzanella salad which, besides a perfectly grilled salmon filet, consisted of goat cheese, balsamic roasted onions, Kalamata olives, croutons, a tomato vinaigrette, and garlic aioli over a bed of romaine lettuce. I VERY rarely say that a salad is addicting, but this salad definitely is. It was so good, I could eat it every day! My husband ordered the 6 oz filet mignon paired with a lobster tail. I tried both and they were very moist and delicious!!! For a side, I was curious about the lobster macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was gooey and seasoned perfectly and the lobster added a nice touch!!! You cannot have Valentine's Day dinner without dessert, right? We ordered the chocolate cake, which came with raspberry ice cream and homemade whipped cream. The cake was fudgy, moist, and rich and the raspberry ice cream was light and tangy. Very high quality food and decadent all around. We went for a friend's birthday and we were in a nice intimate space to ourselves at a table that seated six. Though we were a bit secluded, I could tell the atmosphere is very classy and I would say romantic if you are looking for that. My merlot was great but I really need for you to know how amazing the food is. I thought the bang bang shrimp had the perfect level of spice and crunch, would highly recommend. I proceeded to the Maine lobster bisque (crackers included but not in my photo). Wow. A life long favorite of mine and it is rare that I've had one this good. For my entree, I had the sea bass because when done right, it gets no better in my opinion. I continued to be blown away. Outstanding flavor and sear on this fish. My only critique was the sticky rice. Some of it was undercooked and lacking in flavor and I think Bristol could feature a better side to this dish based on everything else I tasted. I always give restaurants some grace when dining on a Friday or Saturday night, and it took a bit longer than I expected for our entrees, but it was worth the wait and let me be clear that we were well attended to. Bristol has an excellent vibe and decor and a great place to eat downtown in Kansas City. We stopped in here for restaurant week and mostly ordered off the restaurant week menu. We also ordered a couple of appetizers. Started off with the crab cakes and calamari. The crab cakes tasted a little dry but the calamari was really delicious. Then had the gumbo which had great flavor packed with all kind of ingredients. Second dish was my kc strip which was cooked to my liking and finished it with the butter cake. Which was incredibly delicious a great value for the three dishes you get. We were really happy with the service and went out of their way to give high quality service. All three were excellent, but the shrimp with the shishito peppers were a favorite, crispy and a great flavor. Our group wasn't very adventurous with main dishes, three of us ordered the jumbo crabcakes. They did not disappoint. They were full of crab meat and delicious. I ordered the mixed grill. I thought the salmon was especially well prepared, very tender. The highlight for me though was the scallops. I don't know if I hadn't had them for a while, but they were so good...Their buttery. goodness really hit the spot. I think I need to come back soon and order a scallop dish! We did the dessert too. The carrot cake was solid as was the crème brûlée. The chocolate velvet cake came with a raspberry ice cream, which was spoken highly of. The last person in our party ordered the apple croustade, an apple turnover-like dessert with a puff pastry crust and vanilla ice cream. We left very full and satisfied. Definitely in shock after hearing the good reviews of this place. The first mistake was a bad drink that was supposed to be excellent. It was watered down and bitter. Secondly, the meal was not up to standards. The filet mignon was burned and charred, the carrots were gritty and not seasoned, the cauliflower was not even as it was described to be. More than likely, I won't be back here. The management was a joy and took care of me. Even offering up two free desserts to make up for it. But being I have a shellfish allergy and 98% of their menu is seafood. Sooooo....... Yeah. Be better Bristol's! read more

Bristol is so fire. I really love this spot. It's incredible. The ceiling is gorgeous there's a lovely fireplace that's so inviting and cozy. The food here is consistently fabulous. Came here to utilize my 20% off coupon, nice intimate setting for dinner. I was greeted right away as I walked in the door, it was very busy. There was a wait even with having a reservation, no biggie it was less than 10mins. I ordered a lavender drop which is my favorite drink to get here. 10/10. Due to trying a spicy margarita and enjoying it, I ordered one here and it did not meet up to the other one's expectations I give it a 5/10. The drink its self tastes like it had salt in it. Again I'm new to the margarita club so I don't know if they normally taste salty. App was steamed garlic mussels in a white wine sauce. 10/10 Entree was the mixed seafood grill 10/10. Recently, a family member was having lunch at this location and asked me if I wanted her to bring home a carryout order. I was busy in a meeting, so quickly looked online at the lunch menu, seeing "Mesquite Grilled Chicken" under handhelds, so sent her a text to order "Mesquite Grilled Chicken" just like they had it listed on the menu. I'll say again, I was very busy in a meeting, so didn't elaborate. Also, since they have a pop up that comes up every time you change screens trying to sell you a gift card, I didn't go through all the menus to compare the different names of items they offered. Well, what ended up happening is they also have a dinner menu item called "Mesquite Grilled HALF Chicken", which is a half-chicken meal with sides. The waiter did ask her which item she was intending to order and she made the wrong decision so I did NOT base my "stars" on this part of the transaction, but I do feel like the situation might have been manipulated a bit. When I got ready to eat my meal, I was surprised to see it was half a chicken instead of a sandwich, but not a big deal. It was edible. What they call asparagus and potato hash was not what I would ever call hash, but I did like the potatoes and asparagus. I joked while eating that they must be serving tiny, baby chickens because I'm not sure I've ever seen a half of a chicken that was that small. I felt like the Jolly Green Giant eating it. Anyway, the food was fine in taste. What is not fine is that the world's tiniest half chicken meal cost $30. In a nice restaurant like this, I can understand the price of a dinner being $30, but not when the 4 pieces of chicken are smaller than one chicken breast you'd get at just about any other restaurant. read more
