I visited Houlihan's on a Friday evening and chose to sit outside since it was warm. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but service ended up being on the slow side--drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive, entrées about half an hour, and even paying the bill took longer than expected. I tried the fixed meal ($25.99) with Caesar salad, shrimp scampi, and butter cake. Everything was fine, but nothing stood out. The Bahama Mama from the bar was also just okay. My friend ordered the stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes, and broccoli, followed by vanilla bean cheesecake, and their experience was pretty similar--fine, but underwhelming. The restaurant has been around for a long time, and you can feel that in the dated atmosphere. I used to really enjoy coming here years ago, especially for the stuffed mushrooms, but this visit didn't live up to the past. Overall, it was an okay experience, but not one I'd rush to repeat. Gave it a shot, I did like a couple things about the menu we ordered from the "All Day Fixe" deal for $25.99, which includes an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. If you ever walked behind a restaurant where the dumpster is and smelled dirty mop water and food waste, that's the smell in the dining room, especially when you walk in to the left. I think this place is a little expensive for what it is, but they do have a lot of menu options, and the decor has a cool, vintage, old school feel that's really nice. There is a lot of parking but there's also several restaurants and a movie theater, so parking may be distant depending on the time. It was also REALLY cold when I went, so consider bringing a sweater. There are some good menu options. We ordered and the order took a while, but the waitress brought us rolls on the house, which was really nice. It's too bad meals don't usually come with bread though. I got the Sedona shrimp pasta, which the waitress luckily warned me had a bit of a kick. I was okay with that, but the menu doesn't make that clear. There were a lot of shrimp, and they were big and plump. The sirloin comes with butter, but it was tasty without it so better to hold it off to save the calories. The broccoli and baked potato were typical. The menu had some interesting looking desserts, but the meals themselves were very filling. As a chain, I think it's more expensive than other chains for similar options, but the ambiance is nice, and our service was great. I can't recommend the food. I had the prime rib dinner and it tasted off. I was raised on rotten meat because my dad had an old country store and we usually ate the green meat nobody else would buy. I know the taste much too well. It's not overly rotten but also not fresh. So I eat it, fully expecting to need a quick trip to the restroom. I personally feel the quality and quantity is pretty good for the price and taste has been consistent whenever I visited which is commendable. Staff are friendly and professional but the service can be slow, especially during Dinner time but I didn't want to reduce my rating for that since this is a relax with a Drink or have a meal with your family and friends, and the delay in Service is usually not a big deal. The nachos were pretty good, very memorable and I would order again if I ended up here again. Every chip seems like they had a fair distribution of all the ingredients. The fried calamari was amazing. They had rings and clusters. Very crunchy outside with a nice traditional inside and great seasoning. The fancy cheese is a fried appetizer and a combination of cheeses. Again, very crunchy outside and the cheese were absolutely amazing 11/10. My drink for the night was the whale. It's a sweet alcoholic drink and it tastes like you're drinking a gummy bear. And yes you get to keep the whale and yes they give you more if you order refills. My main dish I think was the Atlantic salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everything was cooked to perfection. The fish was nice and soft and juicy. My Son and I frequented Houlihan's numerous times in the past, but the last time was 4 years ago. At that time the food was really great, and I was anxious to go back. Yesterday my Son and I finally returned, but found the menu was only a shadow of what it used to be. The food was still good, but nothing like the past when they had delicious crab cakes and calamari. I ordered nachos and my Son ordered prime rib. Both were good, but not nearly as delicious as we remembered. The nachos was a huge plate, enough for 3 people; and the prime rib was medium rare as my Son likes it. This is a very large place that seats a lot of people on 3 different levels. We sat at the bar on the top level. The beer selection is adequate, but they didn't have any dark beers. The bartender was efficient and businesslike. Based upon today's prices, their prices are still reasonable. Our total bill with tip and 3 beers came to $77. This is still a pleasant restaurant, but the atmosphere is old and dingy. The walls could use a coat of paint to cheer the place up a bit. The carpet was kind of dirty and a lot less clean than it was before. When we arrived at 7:30 PM the place was almost empty; but then when we left around 9:00 PM, the restaurant was really starting to fill up. They seemed to be understaffed. The bartender was trying to manage the bar as well as the surrounding tables. He did his best, but people at the tables had to wait longer than they should have. Houlihan's has closed a lot of their restaurants, and I have a feeling, since they don't remodel, this location may soon be on the chopping block. First off, fix the a/c. The bartender was either high or not fixed for the service industry. I knew going in I picked the lesser of the two evils by not going to Red Lobster. Ordered a lemon drop, taste like a watered-down vodka drink. Got the all day, with roasted chicken. I'm okay with not getting substitutions, but damn 1 hour to get it, and the sauce wasn't baked in the chicken. The second drink asked for a Chardonnay and watched him pour Savignon Blanc. Today is a stop-in for an early birthday celebration for Red. We already know we want Firecracker Cauliflower and an order of Fish-n-Chips each. Red decides to go with a baked potato instead of chips. Firecracker Cauliflower is "banging" as always. Fish-n-Chips show up with a pleasant surprise. ACTUAL CHIP FRIES WITH THE FISH! The battered fish and tartar sauce is always great, but the hot, delectable chip fries seal the deal. I was in Cambridge England in 2004 where I had fish-n-chips and even they do not match the experience. Manager Andrew stops by to see how the meal is and we express our extreme pleasure with the fish and especially the chips. He offers a side plate of chips so Red can experience them. She refuses in hopes of saving room for her birthday dessert. But I say to bring them on. Red carefully picks at a few and wishes she has room for more. Houlihan's hot Kamikaze brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream is one of those pleasures you regret having, but you know you must. At the end of the meal, we find Andrew comps us the chips and dessert for Red's birthday. We leave the maximum tip in appreciation. Sorry, I did not get the name of our waitress, but certainly pleasant and helpful at every turn. Just a nice person to have serving. We do not get to Houlihan's as often as we would like to, but the authentic fish-n-chips classic will bring us back, as well as the hot appetizers. As far as chain restaurants go, I've always liked Houlihan's menu. They have a nice range of healthy and splurge worthy options. In particular, their ahi tuna appetizer keeps me coming back (flavorful pieces of tuna served with a spicy wasabi aioli...so good)! We decided to order delivery from this location over the weekend through DoorDash. Our delivery was correct and on-time. I went with my usual order (ahi tuna appetizer) and a chicken Caesar salad, and my fiancé ordered the fish and chips. Our Server/Bartender Frankie was so attentive and he made me a great Peach Long Island Iced Tea and made sure our food was nice and hot in a timely manner.
