Came here on a Friday night as a party of 4. I made a 7pm reservation, but we ended up having to wait by the bar because our table wasn't ready. We were escorted upstairs to this small area that seems to be for private/ large parties. It was really hot up there, but otherwise, we liked being up there because it was intimate and away from any noise. Every staff member we encountered was really nice and friendly. The drinks were very alcohol forward, which is good if you're looking for a buzz. The honey jerk wings had a kick to it and had a good temperature. The mini empanadas were so flavorful. I wish it was more than 3. The rasta pasta with chicken was delicious. It was even better the next day when I reheated my leftovers. I will say it was really rich and oily, so if you're not a fan of that, then get something else. I really enjoyed the food. I think my con with them is that they're lacking in organization a bit. It's clear that they were really busy. Some things we asked for took a while to come, and we would long periods without seeing our waiter. Cassie was AWESOME! I would come back just cause of her and the Host, they really set the tone for thus experience. I've been to a lot of places, have 10m+ views on pictures s believe me my taste buds were ready! The food was super tasty. In short: Do NOT come here! #1: I got food poisoning! Have been throwing up (and have diarrhea) all morning. The server forgot to get a drink for someone at the table. The Calamari came out cold. The potatoes for my dinner was extremely cold. I waited nearly ten minutes to tell my server about my cold potatoes because she disappeared. As I write our friends dinner is not out yet because, as the server said, she put in the order with separate bills. The salmon taste good but not much of a cajun kick to it. Oxtail with rice and beans, oxtail was flavorless and tough, rice and beans needed salt. Fried Branzino, fish was very good but again the rice and beans need salt. Side Orders - Jollof rice need seasoning, it was mushy and disgusting. A disrespect to traditional Jollof rice. Mac & Cheese was very potent. Sharp cheese is used and it need a calmer cheese to balance the dish. On top of all of that we witnessed 2 tables that was very displeased with their food and service so much that the manager had to intervene. Unfortunately I will not visit this restaurant again. I had a very bad experience with this place. From the 30 min wait, bad seating and dry, burnt food. The food was overpriced which is crazy to me because it wasn't tasty at all. The chicken was very dry and very hard. The Mac and Cheese was not giving at all and they definitely burnt my corn bread as you can see in the picture something that is so easy to make. I never received my collard greens. And was shocked to receive a can of soda and a bottle of dollar tree water and was charged $12.00 for that bottle which is seen below in the pic, but yet the food was very expensive which is crazy. I had really hoped this place was going to be great food wise but I must say ultimately I was disappointed. I ordered the Oxtail dinner ($45) which was expensive but usually worth It for oxtail at most other places I've been to. The flavors on the dish were fine but I absolutely could tell that the oxtail itself was NOT fresh and was tough. I can't explain how disappointing this was especially for paying $45 for It. At the end of the meal the server asked me how It was and I was honest about my disappointment. Servers were friendly enough and the ambiance inside was really nice as well. But we all know that means nothing if the food isn't on point. Not only was the oxtail not freshly cooked , It was full of plenty of fat and tough to cut. This restaurant is a bit of a mess. We had reservations for 1pm and we weren't seated until around 1:30pm. The service was incredibly SLOW and it took us nearly 25 minutes for us to get a drink at the bar. Then to make matters worse, it took them roughly 15 minutes for them to take our order. When we finally ordered it took incredibly long for us to get our appetizers. All but 2 of our 8 person party got our meals at 3:10pm... absolutely unacceptable. And currently I am writing this review and 2 guests have YET to get their meals at 3:30pm and we placed our order around 1:45pm. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was COLD upon receiving it. The ambiance is the only "good" spot about this place. Good music, nice decor, and my only issue is the temperature. It's pretty warm in here. This is not I spot I recommend unless you want the vibes but.... the price of the food doesn't line up with the quality or speed of service. Decided to try this spot out for V-day...seemed like a Cool spot the way it was advertised on Instagram. Had an 8:30 reservation,got there 15min early and was seated immediately...Decor was nice..like real nice (something my wife has me paying attention to). All the other days I assume it would be random walk-ins or a few reservations.....I believe my wife spoke to another staff member in charge of the place and she told her of her concerns....and she apologized and I believe offered us the dessert again and also try to say they didnt know they would've been this busy on Vday. She said nope to the dessert..just please take the card..we didnt even wqnna see the bill to further annoy ourselves......and she must've gave me the stare not to tip at this point on the $285 bill that we notice it was.......which I felt weird cuz the im aware the restaurant business is hard...I understand...I think after my wife told them what happened & about her poor svc...I was thinking hey...maybe they would at least maybe cut 25-30% of the bill to accommodate us. It's a Nigerian, Caribbean, Latin, European infused theme restaurant. Definitely touches on different cultures. The staff is very friendly, the bartenders Natalie and Miguel are amazing and make great drinks. The service is a bit slow, but not horrible. They can get better with this. They definitely need a dedicated greeter/hostess at the front, but they are new so hopefully this will be addressed. The need bar hooks for purses. The atmosphere/look is great look. Definitely has IG worthy backdrops for pictures. Food: I loved the grilled shrimp avocado wrap - straight up bomb! The mango lobster ceviche is delicious! The lobster mac n cheese is good too The wings are fried (wingettes) hard which i like and you can get different dipping sauces The grill branzino is good. I need to try the fried version to see what it is. The grill beef kabab - nah this wasn't it! It was overcooked and cover in sauce.... They need to try again with this one. This is the only thing so far that I didn't like. Ordered the Griyo to go, I hope to gwah it's good... Haitian ppl will judge them... since this is a heavily Haitian community in Roselle... Let me start off by saying all 3 of the southern chicken entrees were under cooked. This should never happen. Especially if you are using a thermometer to check the temperature of the meat being cooked. Someone could have gotten sick. We sent the food back weary of what would return. The hostess said they would make us all a fresh batch of food but my thought was what was the alternative? She also mentioned our food would be pushed up in queue however there was no compensation. Not even an offer of extra free bread while we waited or any interest to find out how we enjoyed our food when it came out. Burger was too salty. Salmon was not blackened nor Cajun. Steak was subpar in quality especially for the price. Initially water was given to the table, tap water, and the glasses for 10 were not even half full. They only brought out one small bottle. I felt as if we were constantly advocating for ourselves for lack of attentiveness. Maybe they are short staff but then larger parties maybe should not be taken as reservations. 2 stars for what was good: Ambiance Drinks Mac and Cheese Collard Greens Bread Overall employees were nice If Managers check on guests this can help negate some of these negative reviews. Also make customers who may have a bad experience feel appreciated and try to rectify the situation even if that eats into the bottom line initially. You don't want one timers But return customers so it's worth the initial investment vs getting bad reviews and people not returning. Also happy customers tip better which makes staff happier. Hoping you will listen to some of the feedback that has been given overall so your business can grow and scale. This place has potential but will not last unless some adjustments are made. read more
