House of Chettinad stood apart for me because of the nice ambiance - a rare thing for Indian restaurants in Austin. Interesting murals and artwork adorn the walls and ceiling. I ordered a Chettinad dosa with chicken. I expected a chicken curry on the side, but instead the dosa was served atop a dry chicken masala. This was spicy and tasty, just not what I expected. The dosa was served hot and was perfectly crisp. It was also spicy, with some green chutney layered inside it. Other chutneys were delicious but sambar lacked flavor. Prices are quite high. I had a concerning experience where I found a piece of glass in my food, which posed a serious safety risk. I alerted the staff at the time, and although they apologized, the initial response of offering only a 10% discount felt dismissive considering how dangerous this was. This goes beyond poor service--this is a major food safety issue. Having said that, i want to acknowledge and appreciate the fact that the management reached out, took the matter seriously, and shared the steps they took to investigate and address the issue. They also worked to resolve the situation appropriately. I do appreciate the initiative to make it right and the way it was handled afterward, I will give them another try. read more

Had a very pleasant first experience at House of Chettinad! Came on a Saturday night around 6 pm and had no trouble getting a seat. The ambience and decor was very warm and inviting. My wife commented it almost felt like Dishoom in London. For food, we got the Masala Dosai, the Mutton Chettinad Curry, and Garlic Naan. I also ordered a Mango Lassi. Everything was great! The dosai was gigantic and the three chutneys were excellent range of cool to slightly spicy. The Mutton curry was amazing - great flavors and just enough spice to add complexity without being overpowering. Best curry I have had in a while! Naan was crispy and plentiful - a good size portion. The Mango Lassi hit the spot - sweet and creamy. Price point was not too bad either, considering food prices nowadays. Will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items! House of Chettinad absolutely impressed us on our visit, especially going relatively close to opening with a group of friends. We ordered a wide spread and every dish delivered. We started with the Onion and Curry Leaf Kuzhipaniyaram, and having eaten kuzhipaniyaram my whole life, I can confidently say this version stood out. It was beautifully presented, very aesthetic, and packed with flavor -- the curry leaf on top really brought everything together. The Masala Dosai was solid and comforting, exactly what you want it to be. One of my favorite dishes of the night was the Chicken Chatti Parotta. Parottas can usually get messy when eaten the traditional way, but I loved that this version could be enjoyed with a fork and knife. And the real ones know -- a parotta soaked in salna is the best way to eat it. This did not disappoint. The Dindigul Mutton Biryani was exceptional. The mutton literally melted in our mouths, and what stood out most was how balanced everything was. None of the flavors were overpowering; they blended together really well, which is not always easy to pull off. Then came the Chocolate Mango Delight, and honestly... it blew our minds. One of the best desserts I've had at an Indian restaurant -- not overly sweet, beautifully presented, and a perfect way to end the meal. This place clearly pays attention to both flavor and presentation. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. read more

This is a newly opened South Indian (Kerala) cuisine restaurant on Ronald Reagan. The restaurant has a welcoming vibe with aesthetic decor and comfortable seating indoors. Food was okish and the menu quite limited. We ordered the chicken chitti parotta which we didn't know would be served as the bread completely soaked in curry. It tasted good but texture was a bit weird (This is perhaps the authentic way to serve the dish but it would have been good to have some sort of description of the same on the menu). It made us feel bloated after eating too. The plain dosa was alright, side chutneys were tasty. The plain or masala dosa is the only dosa dish on the menu. Paneer lababdar curry was too tomatoey and lacked any other flavor. The cocktail menu was great though, lots of Indian flavored cocktails which is not common in most Austin area restaurants. The restaurant serves authentic South Indian food, one of the best in the town. The mutton briyani was delicious and closer to the taste back home. This place is awesome! Words fall short when it comes to trying to describe the overall experience! From service, to ambiance to food! It was full on perfection! The chetinad dosa tho.. what was that, so so good! I don't eat dosas but this was amazing! I will come back for all of it, the fish the shrimp, the dosa the biryani the chicken. All South Indian names so I cant remember it but whatever Sean recommended we loved! And definitely the best sambar I've ever had! Dude those drumsticks in sambar hit the spot! So first impressions, the entrance looks exotic promising a pleasant food experience. The waiting area, and dining area are beautiful decorated with high end finishes. This gives an upscale feel to the place. I visited yesterday, with a party of 4 adults, 5yr old and 2 under 2. We had reservations. We were given a nice corner table where we could keep our stroller and a high chair. The server came and took our order quickly and the food came soon enough. However the food wasn't upto our expectations. We were excited reading the food description but except the chicken lollipop I think everything was OK or missed the mark. We had masala dose, it was OK not mind blowing or anything. Mutton biryani seriously lacked flavor and the way it looked, it didn't tempt anyone into eating it. Veg kottu was OK, had better elsewhere. Beet and Plantain Urundai was a total bummer, we hardly ate it. Veg Paniyaram were basically appe, it was fine. Masala soda was OK but Blackberry smash was major disappointment. Unfortunately, the place promised a pleasant food experience but the food didnt live upto it. Came here for the Valentine's Day tasting menu and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The cocktails here are so inventive and is truly a fusion of Indian and western culture. The stand outs for me was the cauliflower dish that was apart of the cocktail pairing. It almost didn't taste like cauliflower and was absolutely delicious! The second stand out was the lamb shank with the parrota. It was probably the best lamb dish I've ever had. Everything about this place was amazing from the presentation to the flavor of the dishes. The price for our Valentine's Day tasting menu was about $96 per couple which is such bargain considering the drinks alone. It was absolute worth the drive from Austin. read more

The House of Chettinad is far and away the best experience that I've had at an ethnic restaurant in America. Having been to a few in Dubai, as well as being fortunate enough to have ethnic cooking in my home as well as friends' homes, the quality of this place is absolutely unbelievable. The presentation is elevated, the cocktail pairing is on point, and the spices are a beautiful medley. They just started a couple months ago, and are well on their way to something truly magical. Their food and Ambiance both are perfect for a valentines plan. I Have been here multiple times, but this last time we indulged in there 5 course Menu Which is priced at $96 per couple. Every single item on the menu will blow your mind. These dishes are so gorgeously presented yet still maintain the authentic Chettinad flavors. All of their sauces and condiments entail a multi-day infusion process with some of the most complex and creative flavors. Believe it or not, their final showstopper is an entire lamb shank. Still don't know how they manage that price point. And those noodles with the temporary shrimp live in my head rent free. There truly wasn't a single item that didn't blow our minds and the service here will leave you feeling so emotional. The chefs will come out and share their culinary journey with you along with the history behind each dish they're serving you. The Service here really is straight from the heart. Went on a Friday night for our anniversary; you cannot book for two online. Even though it was busy, we were quickly seated; place was nice, clean, and lots of staff smiling quickly attending to patrons. Nice to see the restaurant patronized by members of the cuisine's culture; it was full of families enjoying a meal, and the children were well behaved. Gave a very nice atmosphere. We had the Chettinad Chicken Curry and the Chettinad Chicken Dosai; absolutly delicious! We had the dosai first to share, with the different dips; actually first time trying this and really enjoyed it. The Chettinad chicken curry was flavorful, large pieces of chicken and served with just enough rice for the two of us. We asked for medium spice - and it was just right. We enjoy making our own curries at home, but for a special evening we wanted to try a new local Indian Restaurant. After much research we found this place, and so happy we went. True to the region, the food was aromatic and fiery; exactly what we love in Indian cuisine. I am gluten free - no issues at all; I felt comfortable with everything we ordered. We were thrilled to try this place after reading the positive Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to dine in, so we decided to order through DoorDash. However, our experience was far from satisfactory. The food arrived much later than expected, taking almost two hours. To make matters worse, the food itself was disappointing. The dosa was stale, and the sambar lacked freshness. The chicken biryani was another letdown. It was so bland that it was barely edible. We hope that this restaurant will improve its service and food quality in the future. read more

They have the best ambiance and the service is top notch especially gokul is good. The bar is another plus. They have the best mocktails - blackberry smash and cocktails.
