We went there for dinner and found out it's mostly a self-service restaurant, so don't be shocked if you have to grab your own water, plates, and utensils. A big perk is the unlimited refills of their delicious chai tea. We also enjoyed their lassi drink, which tasted great. We ordered the lamb vindaloo with garlic naan and the chicken biryani. Everything tasted flavorful, the lamb had a great texture, and came with some potatoes mixed in it. We came to House of Curries on a Wednesday early evening and we were the only ones there, but to be fair we were quite early so it was before the dinner rush. The restaurant, as others have mentioned, is mostly self service, so be prepared to get your own waters, dishes, and utensils, which isn't a big deal. We ordered a lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and a chicken biryani. lamb vindaloo paired with garlic naan (4/5): big fan of the lamb vindaloo, strong flavors and quite good portions of lamb. The garlic naan also had a great garlic flavor and good texture and consistency chicken biryani (3/5): this was a bit of a letdown. the biryani portions were huge and we even had to take it to-go, but the chicken was just too dry and overcooked. this is close to where I live so I'd be down to give them another chance, but probably keeping away from chicken dishes read more

My wife and I recently made some chicken tikka masala at home and were looking to enjoy it with some naan, so we ordered two pieces for takeout -- a garlic and a cheese naan, along with a mango lassi from House of Curries. We called ahead over the phone to place our order and was told our order would be ready in about 10 minutes. Because my wife had placed the order, I wasn't sure what the total would be when I went to pick up the order. When the food was rang up at the counter, I was a bit sticker shocked. The total came out to be close to $17, which included a 4% surcharge for using credit card. This definitely felt a bit expensive, but lesson learned -- check the menu prices next time to avoid sticker shock. Pricing aside, the cheese naan is some of the best we've had. Oftentimes with cheese naan, its made with as little cheese as possible to qualify as a cheese naan. The one here is filled generously with mozzarella cheese and has a wonderful cheese pull. The garlic naan was similarly very well made: I loved how much garlic garnished the top of the naan. If the naan is an accurate preview of what the rest of the menu tastes like, I'll happily be back to try out more of their menu. Will definitely bring cash though, to avoid the surcharge. read more

Came in around 4:00 pm for a late lunch today (Saturday) and the restaurant was completely empty which meant the food came fairly quickly within 15 minutes of ordering! The prices are a lot lower than other places that I have frequented so that was nice! When you eat in the restaurant, it is self serve to grab plates, water, utensils + chai is in the house, it is $2 to go. We ordered garlic naan, vegetable biryani, vegetable samosa and lamb curry. One thing that I noticed about each of the dishes is that nothing had a very strong taste? Not even the tamarind and mint cilantro chutney. Which is kind of unusual for Indian food bc I'm used to being punched in the face w flavor. The biryani does not come with raita so you must order it separately. Nothing really stood out to me as particularly special so the meal was just ok! The lamb is extremely tender and melts in your mouth which is nice. Although it's not the best Indian food I've had, I'd give it another chance. This was my first time here and was a little disappointed that the food took a while to come out and when it did the temperature was barely just warm, like it had been sitting for a few minutes before it was brought out to us. I felt like the garlic naan was pretty plain in flavor and didn't taste fresh. Free (unless taken to-go) hot chai. It is self-serve and you can add sugar as you'd like. Parking lot out front, which is very convenient! Inside is quite plain and outdated in decoration, but that didn't bother me. After reading Lisa K's review I bookmarked House of Curries and suggested it to Nina for lunch. We met here today. Both of us bypassed it and had to backtrack. It's right on the corner of Sacramento and 66th and has its own parking lot, for those who are similarly challenged. I arrived first and was welcomed by Ria (I didn't ask the spelling of her name) who invited me to choose a table and gave me menus. Ordering is at the counter. Nina arrived shortly after and we decided to share an onion naan. She ordered a chicken curry w/ vegetables and I ordered palak ghosht, which is the same as lamb saag, both mild. We ordered rice to share and partook of the complimentary serve yourself chai. The naan arrived first and looked like a pizza. It was huge and it was good. The other dishes were brought next, both generous portions. We shared both dishes and they were very flavorful. The lamb was tender and the chicken was moist. The spice level was more mild plus and we both really liked that. My only regret is that I didn't think to order a side of raita. Neither of us could finish our meal, so there were leftovers. I took the leftover two pieces of naan to Alan, who was pleased. We paid at the counter and Ria offered me chai to go, which was incredibly sweet of her. Very good! I was passing by on my bike and decided to stop in. This would be a 5 but i sat outside, and the chairs are horribly uncomfortable. Also the table is much too high, making it very hard to eat. That takes it down to a 4. But hey, the food is great. I ordered chicken biriyani, and it came just the way i love it, with pieces of green and red bell pepper and big juicy chunks of breast meat. The first bites were hot, and i asked for some Raita, which the waitress did not charge me for. That made it fine. The raita is a little watery. I also got green sauce which i highly recommend. You get enough biriyana to have it for lunch the next day! Huge portions, an A+ on that. The na'an was just great. I asked if they could burn it a little and she said, "You want it crispy?" I said yes. So they made it crispy, and it's just the way i like it. They didn't have clientele there so the food came fast. I hope people will try this place. the atmosphere is nothing special, they really could improve on that & the uncomfortable chairs, but i loved the food. We loved this place right away, because it was such a welcome addition to our neighborhood. I don't know anybody around here who doesn't think it's just great, including MANY of our over 200 Airbnb guests who have stayed since House of Curries moved in. We only do take-out, and that service is excellent. It's a very plain space inside, but there's a big plain patio as well, with lots of parking. But to fill out my cooking the rice, roti, samosa and pakoras are yummy.
