    Cheese Naan
    Austin W.

My wife and I recently made some chicken tikka masala at home and were looking to enjoy it with some naan, so we ordered two pieces for takeout -- a garlic and a cheese naan, along with a mango lassi from House of Curries. We called ahead over the phone to place our order and was told our order would be ready in about 10 minutes. Because my wife had placed the order, I wasn't sure what the total would be when I went to pick up the order. When the food was rang up at the counter, I was a bit sticker shocked. The total came out to be close to $17, which included a 4% surcharge for using credit card. This definitely felt a bit expensive, but lesson learned -- check the menu prices next time to avoid sticker shock. Pricing aside, the cheese naan is some of the best we've had. Oftentimes with cheese naan, its made with as little cheese as possible to qualify as a cheese naan. The one here is filled generously with mozzarella cheese and has a wonderful cheese pull. The garlic naan was similarly very well made: I loved how much garlic garnished the top of the naan. If the naan is an accurate preview of what the rest of the menu tastes like, I'll happily be back to try out more of their menu. Will definitely bring cash though, to avoid the surcharge.

The food and service was great! It's a very authentic restaurant. They have great flavor in all of their dishes. They have outdoor and indoor seating. With lots of room for big parties if needed.

Good food. Consistent in quality. Very nice staff. Plenty of dining space and options on the menu as well as weekly specials. Food is fresh and served hot. It's a order at the counter and seat yourself place. Free delicious tea with dine in service. Parking can be hard sometimes but not terrible. A true staple in the community.

Like the name implies, House of Curries is a homey place with no frills but good food. You order at the counter, self-serve water, plates, utensils, and the complimentary chai, and someone will soon bring out your delicious order. We got a lamb vibdaloo and a chicken tikka masala, the garlic naan, a side of rice, and a mango lassi. The lamb was tender, the chicken a bit on the dry side, the naan was delicious, and the mango lassi filled to the brim! If you want some solid comfort food, do not skip this place!

Came in around 4:00 pm for a late lunch today (Saturday) and the restaurant was completely empty which meant the food came fairly quickly within 15 minutes of ordering! The prices are a lot lower than other places that I have frequented so that was nice! When you eat in the restaurant, it is self serve to grab plates, water, utensils + chai is in the house, it is $2 to go. We ordered garlic naan, vegetable biryani, vegetable samosa and lamb curry. One thing that I noticed about each of the dishes is that nothing had a very strong taste? Not even the tamarind and mint cilantro chutney. Which is kind of unusual for Indian food bc I'm used to being punched in the face w flavor. The biryani does not come with raita so you must order it separately. Nothing really stood out to me as particularly special so the meal was just ok! The lamb is extremely tender and melts in your mouth which is nice. Overall, I probably wouldn't return if I was in the area again but I'm glad I tried it!

Although it's not the best Indian food I've had, I'd give it another chance. This was my first time here and was a little disappointed that the food took a while to come out and when it did the temperature was barely just warm, like it had been sitting for a few minutes before it was brought out to us. I felt like the garlic naan was pretty plain in flavor and didn't taste fresh. Free (unless taken to-go) hot chai. It is self-serve and you can add sugar as you'd like. Parking lot out front, which is very convenient! Inside is quite plain and outdated in decoration, but that didn't bother me. I did enjoy the chicken tikka masala and the palak paneer, Indian food craving was satisfied!

Great curries, samosas, service. I only really use it as a take-out place although it does have a cool ambience. Recommend.

Good food! I prefer the College location for a better ambiance. The Sacramento spot is good for takeout.

They closed for a time, and now seem to be thriving again! Heading to the Greek for a weekend show, we wanted to pop in somewhere close-by. We cozied up to bar seating, and enjoy a couple of martinis featuring local gin and vodka, and ordered some food to share: the Original Tikka Masala Flatbread (we had to finally try it!), and the Sev Puri Chaat (first time trying this ever!). Service was amazing, and if I could write this review purely on the originality and creativity of the menus, I would (see pics!) The menus were CD cases (remember those, ha) with a fun take on 'Spice Girls', titled 'East Bay Spice Company'. For Spice Girls fans, you will recognize what album this was derived from. Each page of the cd book was a different part of the menu, including drinks, happy hour (from 2-6pm), and food. So fun, and unlike anything I've ever seen before. The food was so fresh and delicious. Loved the pomegranate seeds and lightness from the Sev Puri Chaat, bite size garbanzo bean/potato goodness! And standing O for that flatbread..pro-tip: get a side of the Tikka Masala sauce to pour on top. Absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan of Tikka Masala, and having that sauce be a base for a pizza...come on!! We did chicken as the protein. Overall, so happy to return and have East Bay Spice back apart of the Berkeley rotation again. Small, dimly-lit, cool digs. Also check out their sister spots: Tap in Lounge and Tipsea in Berk, Blue Rabbit Bar off San Pablo, and Lemon Drop in Alameda.

A recommendation from a client I had today directed me here before my trip home over the San Rafael Richmond Bridge. I found a parking spot right around the corner. One space from the corner is Udupi Palace and the Corner space is a Turkish restaurant that once was a breakfast spot that I used to frequent back in 1984. A memory jolt from times long ago when I worked for a minute across the street at a modern furniture store-"The Apartment Store." Chrome, glass, and marble home furnishings that took several months to deliver and required a 50% deposit. A strange business model indeed! To my delight, my meal came much quicker. A nice portion for my curry entrée which came complete with rice, Poori: Deep-fried, puffed whole wheat bread, and I believe a piece of Papadum: a thin, crisp wafer made from lentil flour. VEGETABLE KORMA: Fresh vegetables cooked with cream and mild spices.(Served with rice, poori or chapati pickle, raita and papad.) $15.95 Friendly service as well and I was offered extra rice, complementary.

We arrived around opening (4:00 PM) today, August 29, 2026. Our server failed to mention that the crab samosa was unavailable until after we ordered it. The person who poured and delivered our drinks wrongly gave each of us the other person's drink. My wife was then mortified to discover two unmistakable drops of blood on her glass, and after reporting it to the waitstaff, she was gaslit by being told that they were instead wine. We ordered four dishes total. They delivered three of them correctly and a fourth dish that we hadn't ordered. We immediately informed our server of the issue, but they repeated the name of the dish and left. We called them over again to clarify if this was the dish that we had ordered, as it looked nothing like what the menu described. She said that she made a mistake because both dishes started with the same word. We then told her that we didn't want the wrong item nor did we want to wait for the missing item. Instead, the server left us with the wrong item and then delivered the missing item a few minutes later and charged us for it. In short, the food is good, but the staff at Noor are inattentive and irresponsible.
