Excellent motorcycle rental service in Boulder CO. I rented a BMW R1250GS for six days and did just over 1400 miles. The GS had been recently serviced and was in excellent condition. Included a locking top case and hard saddle bags with plenty of storage for any length trip - much more than I needed, but was glad I had it. Thoughtful touches included a BMW Nav unit, usb cables for phones, and a phone holder on the handlebar with easy access to the BMW usb plug in the cockpit. SAE connector to battery supported my Gerbring heated jacket. Jeremy was helpful in providing details before the trip for easy planning. Pickup didn't take more than 15 minutes and drop off even less. They were really helpful in arranging a special pickup time to fit our trip needs. Enthusiastic and professional team. After discussing my skiing style with the owner, Jeremy, we settled on an 88 degree edge with their "custom" wax blend. Santino, their lead tech (found this out because I asked after being impressed by the tune) nailed it - my skis performed perfectly! I chose to write a review because I was impressed by the consultation and "custom" tune based on my skiing style and ability. Took my motorcycle tire after 3 other places wouldn't take it. Friendly guys, seemed like a nice shop

There is a long list of issues. I show up and the bike is dead because the key was left on. Took 2 hours before they decided to buy a new battery. Head out the next day to have the bike die during a rainstorm hundreds of miles from the shop. Come to find out, the negative terminal was cross threaded and didnt make a good connection. Imagine having your bike dying out in heavy traffic during a down pour. The bike continued to do this on and off the few days I had it. Got worse as the days went on. Bike stalled out about 20 times even despite what roadside rigging I could do. I ended up returning the bike a day early due to it being so unreliable. Contacted the owner, Ben. We agreed on a set amount to be refunded. No surprise, I did not receive it. That was consistent with all the other reviews of ben not following through with what he said. I'm also not sure how a rental company has such limited sizes of gear. Never again will I rent from this place. read more

Couldn't be happier with the service I have received here. Wes worked on the first bike I brought in. He called me a couple times with updates. He looked into things and got it running quickly. I wasn't even charged for the time he spent investigating a possible issue that turned out to be nothing. Ben worked on another bike which needed to be fixed in a very short time frame. He diagnosed the problem same day and ordered the part. Bike was fixed ASAP which was exactly what I needed for a trip the following week. Ben's crew helped me out again and again over the years, but service could be spotty and there was a general feeling of disorganization. Don't take your bike here for service! I brought in just my forks to have seals done and it was almost $400 and one of them was disassembled already and they charged me for two hours of work for something that I would usually be charged only an hour for at other shops. Considering that the labor is 150/hour you'd think the techs would know what they were doing in order to get a job done in a normal amount of time... read more

This could have been a good experience, but ended up feeling like a rip-off. The other review on here regarding using the bike and doing "some damage" but being charged for the full $1500 was nearly my exact experience. Due to my flight plans, I returned the bike during off hours and was unable to walk through the bike damages with Motorad. Yes, there were damages... but not $1500 worth IMO. Guys, Simply call me and walk me through the issues with Facetime or Skype. A little customer service would have gone a long way here. If you rent from these guys, take a ton of detailed pictures BEFORE you leave, and ALSO AFTER when you return it. DON'T drop the bike during off hours, be present, and when they point out the damages take your own pictures so if you feel over charged you can dispute is successfully by getting the damage appraised by a bike shop in your area. It's sad, I would have been an annual customer. Now I will never go back. I simply don't trust them. read more

I was really impressed with the guys at House of Motorrad. We had an issue (or so we thought) with our bike and took it in to get checked out. They looked it over and didn't find anything wrong with it. This was great news and when I went to pick the bike up, they didn't charge me at all. I lost a motorcycle glove today so I stopped by House of Motorrad to look for a cheap pair of gloves to wear until my new ones arrive in the mail. House of Motorrad is more geared toward off-road riding, but it's the closest thing to a motorcycle gear shop in Boulder. There was only a small selection of gloves in stock and they said he could order anything I needed. I told Jonah (the guy at the shop) that I really just wanted a cheap pair of gloves to wear while I wait for mine to arrive because I can't stand riding without gloves. Instead of pushing me to get something I didn't want, Jonah literally gave me his old pair of gloves to wear home!! Jonah is seriously the nicest guy. I couldn't recommend this place more. I will definitely be coming back for all my motorcycle service needs- and to return Jonah's gloves when mine arrive! read more

My experience renting a bike from here started with 5 stars. They were nice and gave me a ride from my hotel so I didn't have to pay for a cab. I paid about $1300 rent for 6 days which I felt was reasonable. The bike was a 2013 BMW 1200gs with about 50k miles. During my trip I went off road and had some trouble on a hill which lead to some scratches on the valve covers and some unpainted plastics. I expected to pay $300-500 for the damages because they were repairable and parts were reusable. I felt that the estimate of $1500 was unfair and ironically it just so happened to be the amount of the insurance deductible. I asked if I could buy the bike for $8k, I had seen some on eBay (but it now) in the $8-10k price range with similar mileage (and not rental bikes). I was told $14k lol. I understand, they aren't obligated to sell the bike. So I asked for the used parts so I could sell them and get some money back and was given attitude and no parts. I was told I would be charged more for packaging and shipping than the parts were worth. I could have had my friend who lives in CO pick them up and ship to me for around $20 usps but it didn't sound like they were willing to give me the parts. I could have disputed the charges (and probably should have) but when I got home I had some other life issues come up so I wasn't really able to focus on this. If you rent from here be sure to take detailed photos ahead of time and expect that if there's any damage, you will be paying $1500. And you will not get any of the used parts. Within about a minute, a tech was in the parking lot with tools helping me out. My issue was quickly resolved. When I asked what I owed them, they said nothing, but leave us a good review. I handed the guy a $20, and said I would, so here I am. It is rare these days that a business will drop what they are doing to take time to help someone out. It is doubly rare when they don't know who you are, which was the case here. It is rarer still when they do this and don't ask to be paid. I rented from House of Motorrad last year while learning to ride dual sports. The team was exceptionally nice and friendly during the rental process. During my ride I stopped the bike abruptly on loose gravel and the bike then tipped over and needed to be picked up. This left some scratches on the left side drop guard. When I returned the bike, I immediately reported the damage and an employee came out and examined the bike telling me he didn't think the minor scratches would be much of an issue, especially since they were in the same spot as a previous renters scratches to the same guard. No other damage was noted at the time by myself or the employee. I received a call from the owner later that week. He told me that my drop also caused a dime size dent in the tank and that he was considering replacing the entire tank for $600 and charging me. Since he was going to sell the bike, we agreed that the tank would remain damaged and I would compensate him 200 dollars for the reduction in sale price. I also asked him if he would refund me the 200 if I bought the bike at asking price. He said if I purchased the motorcycle we could "talk about it then." He then quoted me $8,000 for the bike. After a brief investigation I found that this price was ridiculously high for the model, year, age and miles of the motorcycle and I ruled out purchasing it. About a week later I received another call from the owner. He told me that because of the scratches to the drop guard they decided to also repaint it and would be charging me an additional $150 for this work. I was now paying well over triple the cost of the day rental and was frustrated. He explained that any scratches on the guard require it to be removed and inspected, then repainted. He explained that they always repaint the guard, so they can tell if the bike has been laid down. I asked about the scratches on the guard visible in the pre-rental photos. Was the previous renter also charged for the exact same work? Why wasn't I sharing this cost with the other renter who scratched the guard before me? Or were we both paying? He would not discuss the previous damage or if any other renters were being charged for the same work. I share some other reviewers concern that this shop uses their strict damage policy as part of their profit model. These motorcycles aren't high end custom street or touring bikes. Dual sports go off road and will occasionally get dropped. Know that if you do any damage to one of these bikes, you will be charged to the full extent of the signed contract. A small scratch or dent may warrant extensive disassembly, inspection or full part replacement. They will do the repairs in house and charge you significantly for them. The most unfortunate thing about this is that this is a great business model in a perfect location. I have since rented many more motorcycles from several other nearby shops and maintained a great relationship with them. My brother, father and I were considering purchasing one of the shops extended motorcycle tours and I did eventually buy my own used dual sport. I have spent thousands of dollars on this sport and will spend countless thousands more in the future. If the shop would have simply treated me in a fundamentally honest manner and not used my mistake as a profit opportunity, they would have likely had a customer for life. read more

House of Motorrad owner Ben is unethical and a liar. His poorly maintained rental bikes will put you in harms way. Don't risk your vacation or worse yet bodily injury renting from this company. The 2 BMW rentals we paid for and confirmed were not available when we arrived from Out of State in August. Lost 2 days of riding. HOM finally substituted poorly maintained KTM 1290 Adventure for BMW so we could ride. KTM fuel gauge and rear brakes failed within 1/2 a day. Called HoM for help. They told us to ride it no substitute bikes available. Ben, the owner, assured us he'd reimburse an extra nights lodging and make things right. Refused reimbursement of $354.00 now. Seemed like a nice guy until he had to stand behind his promise. Money the man's God! read more

I would definitely recommend House of Motorrad. Great service and Ben was a very nice guy. I was in Boulder for business and finished early. I stopped in off the street and luckily there was a bike available. 20 minutes later I was on the road on a KTM 990 Dakar and headed into the Rocky Mountains for the first time. As i like to support local businesses, I was looking for a local bike shop to do my maintenance. I came across Ben at the House of Motorrad. After a few emails back and fourth, I took my Yamaha in for a tire change and tuneup. I felt very confident with talking to Ben, and even though he rents and works on the adventure bikes, he handled my big Yamaha with kid gloves and great expertise.
