I went in with my yz426f Yamaha and they fixed it but damn the customer service in this place is horrific. Like I get it high stress, motorcycles are funny especially if your a beginner. Ok so I went in a second time (glutton for punishment, I guess) my generator had the same problems as my motorcycle I figured yeah they can fix this. This was the place my son had his motorcycle fixed right before my son had an accident. The motorcycle failed at some point and he lost control. The report states that he traveled 181 feet before his landing spot. The report also states that the bike may not have been working properly. My son spent three months in the hospital recovering from a serious TBI. I am not sure if it was the bike itself or a combination of issues but if the bike wasn't fixed properly then it could have caused the accident. read more

I know Rolf has a good rep, and I really don't want to have to write a review like this, but it really is warranted. I had a starter issue, along with some other things wrong with my WR450F. I took it to Rolf in October, end of the season. He kept it until Mid December due to a part shortage. Understandable, not a big deal. I could have ridden more, but nothing anyone can do about it. I go on my first ride in May. Bike starts no problem, but on the ride I shut it off and it won't start. I troubleshoot it to the starter motor. Clearly a dead spot/defective motor. I call Rolf, and he says: Sorry, parts have a 30 day warranty I'm out of luck. He hangs up on me when I start to argue. Lesson learned. Don't take your bike here, especially at the end of the season. He won't stand behind parts he put in your bike! read more

I recently purchased a Kawasaki KLX 250s which I determined was too tall for my comfort level. I reached out to the dealer that I purchased to from and unfortunately they could not modify it. They advised me to contact some local Moto shops. I randomly reached out to Rolf's shop after hours and he called me first thing the next morning. I took the bike up that day and we discussed options. I chose the basic option and unfortunately it didn't get me to a comfort level. Very experienced and knowledgeable. I took my Polaris 550 Sportsman in for minor repairs and service. Rolf could have easily charged me for more labor and I would have been none the wiser. But he only did work that was needed and justified, and only charged me for what was needed and justified. It's running great now and you'd never know it was rolled. I almost felt guilty about paying him so little. I've been going to "certified Polaris" shops for years and now realize I've wasted thousands on mechanics that are fresh out of school. I'll bet Rolf's mechanics have more than 50 years experience between them. I'll definitely go there again, whether it is for major repairs or simple service. And I'll send all my friends there, too. OK, of course ANY motorcycle shop is going to get negative comments here....cuz, in general, they suck. Shops are set up to rip people off across the board. The have the skills and knowledge that you (and I) lack, or we wouldn't be there in the first place. Same with any mechanic, unless he's your friend/relative. That being said: Bob's Motorcycle Shop knows how to fix XS650 Yamahas, and mine runs like a top after their repairs. Of course I wanted to spend as LITTLE money as possible, and they wanted to MAKE as much money as possible. So, you should keep your guard up for sure. The quote they gave me went up when they found a busted piston skirt, and replaced it. I spent a lot of money there...but, they fixed everything. They completely rewired my bike, and rebuilt the motor (top end only.) They fixed things that several different competent mechanics couldn't. I'm building another XS bobber and wouldn't hesitate to take it back to Bob's....and probably will. You just have to tell them, "Look, I have limited funds so do this as cheap as possible." Besides....the dealerships suck ass! They are set up to handle new crotch rockets and motocross bikes only. They carry no parts for anything older than 1995. Where else are ya gonna go? Steele's?....now that place really sucks! That's how I came to Bob's ....I refused to go to Steele's again. More on Steele's: They kept my bike (the very same XS I took to BOB's) for two whole weeks, then after I called them several times to find the status, they finally said they didn't want to deal with it. WTF? Wasted my fucking time, I was pissed. I won't be going there again. They also charged me $300 to fix a clutch in a $300 used motor...WHICH I HAD BOUGHT FROM THEM! Having been a rider for many years I've been through a few shops in my time. Most of them over promise and under perform. They take weeks to get to simple repairs, that kind of crap. Rolf has been the exception and is a solid dude since I started taking my BMW there. He is very knowledgeable and always has my bike ready when he says and is reasonably priced. He is an honest service guy in a sea of douche bags out there! I feel fortunate to have found his small shop. Sure the place looks a little chaotic but trust me, he is not. I read that other review about the tire. Sure, I ordered a pair or skins and left. He called me back right away to let me know that they are on back order (covid has all these factories scrambling) No problem. First of all, ROLPH is NOT BoB! Rolph bought the shop and is running it himself now. Great guy, honest and straight forward. I rolled in took a look at his bikes for sale. I started picking on a few things on the bike and he chipped in, yes and this and this and this. He then showed me what he had to done to restore the bike back to road worthy condition., I am sure you all know you take any bike form the 80's and you could spend thousands getting every small thing addressed. Rolph's shop rates are lower then any one else at 75$ n hour. He shows you exactly what needs to be done, you decide what to fix. And that's what he does. He does not do work with out permission, or come at you with extra charges at time of pick up. For that matter while I sat n chatted, I mentioned I wanted to adjust my clutch cable on my Harley Dyna FXD, he not only showed me how; but then they came out handed me a Cola and adjusted it for me on the spot no charge. So please disregard these above reviews from 3 and 4 years ago, I dont know why they are even on here, Rolphs is not Bobs.. same location different crew. It is now 2012! They make mistakes (everyone does) but they don't stand behind their work. I brought my bike in to have new tires put on. They noticed that my back brake pads were in need of replacement. I gave them the go-ahead to do the work. After two rides and less than 100 miles, the pads fell off. I immediately went back to the shop. Their mechanic looked at it and admitted that the issue was due to an error in the installation. Rolf (the owner) said the guy who worked on my bike was no longer there. He refused to fix the problem and refused to return my money. I brought my bike to the dealer and it's costing me $550 to re-do the work they did and replace other parts that were damaged due to their negligence. On top of that... Rolf was remarkably defensive and was raising his voice at me while refusing to help me. I strongly advise you to avoid this place. read more

Excellent service with a quick turn around on mounting up a front tire for my HD '04 Sportster (21" spoke, and not an easy one from what I've heard). The HD mechanic was very knowledgeable and didn't mind chatting and answering a few questions I had. All in all a very good experience that ended up saving me $150! These guys are crooks. I took my bike in to get new tires and they tried to tell me that I needed to put a new fork onto my '84 Magna because it was out of alignment and surprise, suprise, they just happend to have a '83 magna fork sitting around. They said it was going to cost me $500. I took it home and realigned the fork myself in about 30 minutes without much difficulty. Unless you don't care about your money, don't trust those guys. They may be competent mechanics but who cares if they will straight up lie to you about what needs to get done. read more

Its really hard to find someone to work on older bikes, so I let Bob's do some minor things for me now and again. However, if you need a good gauge of their business ethics, look no further than their oil change prices which are listed on their web site. The amount that they charge for almost everything is criminal, but the oil changes are actually humorous. The biggest motivator for taking any vehicle, two-wheeled or four, to an independent mechanic vs. a dealership is that the little guys are usually a little less expensive. Not Bob's though. On the six occasions that I have needed minor work done which was cut and dried enough that I could call around and (ie "how much do you charge to change tires?") they have been more expensive than Sun Enterprises all but once. And Sun is clean, established, and insured! read more

Agree with the crooks part. bought a cb500 from them a 1971. they said it was in perfect condition...buyer beware. they are complete thieves and the Better Bussiness will be called about this one. one valve timing is off it needs new clutch friction plates. i understand the no warrenty part but this is some serious BS. i might as well just go ahead and fix it myself but i dont have the time. im calling them today and will see what they will do. such a pity that they are the only people i know in boulder that will work on a bike past 1990. extremely irritating. please if you kno anywhere else let me know read more

I have been using these guys for a few years. They have always been fair, on time and honest in rebuilding my carbs, fork seals and everything else a 1980 Honda CB 900 Custom needed after sitting for many years. They just replaced my tires and original clutch cable also checked to see if there was anything else needed.... there was not. A good family business that I will be returning to as they have always been fair and honest. Can't ask for more than that in this day and age. read more

Worthless, don't even consider them. The owner comes off so helpful when you meet him. Ya, ya, vee can do all dees tings fo 500 dalas. When you pick up your bike, half the stuff is done, and the other is done poorly. He was supposed to replace front tube shock oil and seals. Only the one leaking was fixed, the other wasn't touched, other than wiping the seal with a rag. He was an a hole when I picked the bike up, treating me as if I were trying to get over on him, while charging me almost $200 more. read more

Brought my scooter to these guys after putting all new parts on it due to a no start. They said they would be more then happy to take a look at it. After 1 week I got a call, they said they have spent over 2 hours on it and it still will not start. If I wanted to go further I would need to pay the $198.00 dollars for the time they already spent plus the additional time as needed or I could just give them the scooter for the time they spent. Needless to say I chose to give them the scooter. I feel like I was taken advantage of and will not go back. read more

This is the most unprofessional shop I've ever been to. A friend of mine bought a car there and got completely ripped off. The owner himself came at me in a very violent manner after I tried to explain to him what was wrong with the vehicle. I should have heeded Yohan's review. These guys are the only shop near Boulder who work on older model motorcycles, so I went ahead and let them work on my bike - and paid dearly for it. Rolf seemed nice enough at first, even suggesting I could get a good price on my motorcycle if I wanted to sell it and provided me info for a couple of people who were looking for a bike like mine. But maybe his insistence that my bike had only one spark plug (it has two) was a harbinger of the bad things to come. I gave them the go ahead for a tune-up at their inflated estimate of $300. Rolf kept telling me he estimates high, but that they always come in lower - he led me to believe I would pay around $200 (still a lot for a tune-up, but I needed the work done). Get this: the final bill came in over $400. And this without any communication to me of the extra work they were doing and that things were looking to go way over the estimate. When I questioned Rolf, he was defensive and unprofessional - really, really poor customer service. He kept insisting that they did not go over the estimate (a provable lie) and that they did not do work that I hadn't requested (also a prove able lie). He refused to work with me on payments, saying that I would not get my bike back until I paid in full and he would charge me $50/day that he had my bike. He suggested I use a credit card (they charge an extra 3% for all credit card charges). So ... (1) they did work I did not ask for, nor approve, and took way too long to do the simple work I did ask for - at $75/hour for labor, I expected them to be professionals who know what they were doing; (2) they charged me double what they originally estimated - without any communication until the end and that being very rude and unpleasant; (3) they would have charged me to hold my bike hostage until I could come up with the money; (4) they stamped No Warranty on my payment receipt and their copy of the work order after doing the work - it's not on my original copy. I would like to trust the actual mechanic work done by Bob, and don't have much reason not to despite the questionable length of time it took him to do it, but Rolf is a customer service nightmare and should not be running a motorcycle repair shop. Motorcycle repair should be inexpensive, relatively simple, and cognizant of holding someone's life in their hands - it should be based on trust and building a good relationship. I found neither at Bob's Motorcycle Shop in Louisville. read more
