Okay, we had quite a funny experience. We came in around 7pm on a Tuesday night. Walked in, the lights are dim, there is no music, and there is basically no one there. A host points at a booth for us to sit at--and I sort of feel like maybe we're gonna get jumped?! It was a weird vibe. Absolute silence. Our waiter barely knew english, but he was so nice and polite. So me and my husband ordered a few rolls--and let me tell you--despite the weird atmosphere, these sushi rolls were delicious!! Yes, they fell apart when trying to eat them, but we didn't mind because they were so good. We definitely can't afford sushi that much...... so maybe it wasn't a good idea to go--but we didn't regret it at all. So flipping delicious. So we loved the food and gem though it was a real awkward setting--but if anything it felt like we had our very own personal chef in the back. Been hearing how good this place was and attempted to go for Valentine's Day which did not happen as they were short staffed and the couple next to us stated they had waited 40 mins to be greeted (no thank you). Decided to give it another try since i have been craving sushi since I have moved here for my birthday. It was horrible - the taste, look, texture and pretty sure kept hearing a microwave go off. Wanted some sushi and decided to try this place out. Our waiter was friendly. The atmosphere is nice but very quiet ... it would be nice with just a little more background noise. We ordered 12 pieces of shashimi ( chefs choice ) slices were quite large .... the yellowtail and tuna were amazing. If you like mussels ... their mussels were delicious ( they do take a little more time to baked ) so I would recommend to order in the beginning. I've been living in Casper for 3 years. My hometown is Tucson Arizona- a million plus. I've NEVER been disappointed at this restaurant. My husband is not an experienced sushi fan. Each and every type of sushi or sashimi I've recommended- he has flipped over. We try to frequent this restaurant at least once a month and we're never disappointed. Casper! Come on! Several hotel employees mentioned that the sushi was great here. Maybe my co-worker and I came on an off day? We both ordered a lunch special. Mine was beef teriyaki, his chicken teriyaki. First off I noticed twice as much chicken on his plate as beef on mine. Secondly he took one taste of his chicken and sent it back saying that the taste was "off". The plate came with tempura fried vegetables which were very fresh and nice, rice, two pieces of California roll and miso soup. All for $8.99 but if the chicken is bad what else will be? Before the lunch plates I ordered a yellowtail roll and 2 pieces of tuna sushi. The tuna smelled and tasted ok but had a shiny wet look. The hamachi had a fishy smell right from the start. I visited House of Sushi when I made my trip up to Casper, WY to visit some family. This place had a great atmosphere, awesome sushi chefs and fantastic food. I was surprised to eat at a Japanese restaurant in Casper and have it taste so good! I was expecting half rated sushi that would get by in a town where Asians are less than 1% of the population. As a long-standing customer, this place has seen a significant decline in recent years and seems to have regular turnover of staff and management. The service was okay! The seaweed salad was fresh and tasty and the beer was cold! The jalapeño tempura was enjoyable and a nice addition to the menu! Rainbow roll was merely average. Nothing special! Beyond that, it was disappointing! Miso soup was lukewarm, tempura batter was thick and chewy, and tasted less than fresh. The tuna sushi was soggy! We may give HOS one more chance, but have to step up their game to keep me as a customer. read more

Please disregard previous reviews, they really have gone downhill since new owners took over three years ago. Today's lunch was horrible. The service is a joke. The servers took the orders of the three tables that came in after us. Both servers seriously reaked of body odor. One servers black pants had so much food stuck to them he looked like a painter. Once we finally got our order taken, we had to request refills. The egg rolls appetizer is still good other than the sauce changed and was not as good. The sushi rolls that came out were chunky with the nori not even connected. Looked like they were made by children. The happy combo beef teriyaki changed quite a bit as the beef had no char, was chewy with gristly bits, the salmon roll changed and had spicy mayo on it now which I did not want and they hesitated to fix and when I said I wouldn't eat it they took 10% off rather than giving me food I could eat. I mean come on, I came here to eat, not to smell their B.O. and have to go to Taco Bell afterwards. Both servers disappeared when it was check time and all four tables they had during lunch rush were looking at each other like we should all just get up and leave. This used to be my favorite spot to eat sushi, not anymore. I order a Sushi Supreme yesterday for a to-go lunch. The six pieces of fish selected from the chef looked extremely questionable on its freshness, so I didn't eat it. I tried the tuna roll and had to spit it out. The sushi was average (but I live in LA) and very expensive (even by LA standards). Another reviewer thought it was excellent for WY, which may very well be the case. The quality of the fish was good, they had monday night football on which works very well when on a business trip. The ambiance was strange b/c they had no music or background sound at all. I am confused. Was I taken to another restaurant than the one everyone else is reviewing? Yes it is Casper...so some credit is given in that their is a sushi place at all...hence the two stars instead of one. Other than that I see no excuses. The edamame was at best defrosted but not actually cooked. I don't expect it to be HOT but it shouldn't feel like it came right out of the fridge. Also as someone else noted the salt was in pretty big clumps. Not good. The sushi was very OK. It wasn't bad but I rarely feel that sushi is bad. Anyone who is a little picky about their quality of sushi would not be a fan. The absolute worst part was the price. I have paid less at much fancier sushi places in Denver that had awesome sushi and I would never describe those places as being cheap. The Philly roll here was $12.95...it is just salmon and cream cheese. In comparison Sushi Den in Denver, a restaurant that is often refereed to as the best in Denver and one of the most expensive charges $7 for their salmon and cream cheese roll. I am not talking about the prices being slightly above normal but often twice the price you would pay at a much higher quality (and tastier!) place. I'm always a little cautious of Midwestern sushi, and traveling in Wyoming wouldn't seem to bode well....but there I was at what was reported to be the best Casper has to offer. Not bad at all!!! The selection is expectedly heavy on cooked fish, California rolls, and nice safe salmon, but my unagi and hamachi were well-prepared with good rice. For Casper, WY this is really good sushi! I've been here several times. My fave dish is probably the Dragon Roll and some hot sake in winter. haha! It is reasonably priced, good presentation, the service is great and the food is really good and flavorful for Wyoming sushi. If this was in CA, though, I'd probably give this place 3 stars. BUT they are in Wyoming! I like it :) What I like best is the consistency. I know exactly what kind of experience I will have when I go here. It is comfortable and a good place to chat with someone! Although I've been here several times I wanted to write from the eyes of a first-timer so when my husband joined my daughter and I for dinner one night it was fun to watch his reactions. He was very pleased with the food although a little confused by the menu. Lucky for him, he had two experienced House of Sushi diners to guide him ;-) He really enjoyed his meal. He ordered the softshell crab and also the shrimp yakitori. He stole some of my daughter's sushi pieces to taste them too :-) He was impressed with the decor.. the black granite tabletops and private-feeling booths added to the atmosphere. The only change I would make to the entire Yelp restaurant review would be to the pricing. They have raised the cost of their dishes and now are one of the most expensive restaurants in Casper. I ate here with my husband for the first time today. We went in around Noon and the place was quiet at first but more people came in over the lunch hour. We were seated right away and we had water and menus waiting for us at the table. the menu is nicely laid out and easy to understand for first-timers (my husband). We ordered Edamame and it was OK, the salt was in clumps spread over only a few pieces. We ordered: Cucumber Sea Eel roll, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Roll and Tuna Shashimi. The rolls were small for the price, and, not very tightly wrapped, the sashimi was too thick for my liking, but all tasted wonderful. The Cucumber Sea Eel roll was my favorite of this trip. It was slightly warm and the cucumber was fresh and crispy. Next time we eat here, I'll be a bit more adventurous and order their specialty rolls like the Dragon or "Spider" Rolls. Bottom line: If dropping $30 on mediocre Sushi works for you...Go for it!! If not, maybe drink a few cups of warm sake to make the price tag hurt less. For Casper I give it 4 Stars, for my food snobbishness, I only give it 3 Stars. read more

During my visit to Casper I visited the only sushi restaurant in town, House of Sushi. Very authentic decor with 3 sushi chefs and a real sushi bar. All the raw fish was very fresh. The have jalapeno poppers that I haven't even seen in LA yet. They tell me they always sell out of them so go there early and try it out. Very very good. I am really surprised by the number of *decent* reviews this establishment has. Starting off, the wait staff made me feel rushed. The bench in the booth was so far away from the table there was no way to sit comfortably. The food was terrible, in taste and presentation. I ordered the crab and salmon rolls. There was more mayonnaise than there was imitation crab. The salmon was definitely NOT salmon. Whatever it was tasted bland and was brownish in color. The rolls themselves were falling apart, with hardly any rice to hold them together and the seaweed was too tough to chew. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed and left questioning whether I should have really finished the food or not. I am no sushi snob, either. I will gladly eat "Grocery Store Sushi", which would have been a much wiser choice, and less expensive to boot. Did I mention everything on their menu is grossly overpriced? The fish wasn't even near fresh, the rolls were lacked flavor other than the fishiness of the old fish & fell apart, & the miso was oversalted! I've dined here many times. Today will be my last! My daughter and I came in for our usually lunch that we drive over 100 miles for mind you. We try to order the happy combo. I'm told it's not offered after 3. Then the waiter asked me what time it was. I looked at my phone and it was 3:02. So is said 3:02. He said yep no lunch! Like he was just asking to prove his point. So I guess 2 minutes is not allowed. Mind you we were there before 3 but they did not come to take out order for several minutes. So we will find a new sushi place from now on. There was so much wrong with this restaurant. The service was horrible. The bathroom was disgusting. The chopsticks were impossible to use despite my years of experience. The food was decent although the spicy tuna could use more flavor. It took them 30 minutes to bring me a new water and they each looked at my empty glass without doing anything. When my friend ordered and Arnold Palmer, the man had to ask what that was and didn't even put ice in her cup. The man working didnt even know what sweet and sour sauce was. Oh and don't get your hopes up about the free ice cream because it's non existent. I have been to many a good sushi places, there are a lot in california... To give a fair review I feel I need to still remember that this is Casper, WY. That being said, all things considered, this is a pretty good sushi place. We had good service even though it was busy. My only 'issue' was the rolls are a bit smaller in size than I am used to, especially for the price. Nothing wrong with taste, though, everything that I tried was really good. One of the best gyoza appetizers that I have had, even. All in all, really happy with this place, especially finding it in Casper! read more

The sushi here is uninspired. I lived in Japan for two years, and I've sought out and dined at some of the best sushi restaurants in the U.S. The result of those travels is the inability to be snowed-over by cut-rate, overpriced, fish-based meals desirable only for the inexperienced diners who patronize this establishment. To top this off, the mediocre service and amenities of this restaurant are disproportional to the exorbitant costs charged for specialty dishes and typical two- to four-person meals. Now that we've dined at HoS, we won't need to do it again. We've been impressed with Dsasumo (downtown, not the eastside #2) from the beginning, and their sushi and Japanese dishes are far more authentic in taste, presentation, and cost. We wish the House of Sushi the best, and we bid them farewell, because no ethical proprietor would continue such a sushi charade much longer. read more
