Andrew should be removed from dealing with customers. He lied to my friend and he lied to me on the phone when i tried to rescue a friend out of being taken advantage by him. Go somewhere else if Andrew is working. Walk out or you will be lied to or taken advantage of by Andrew. Very unethical and dishonest. Andrew tries to take advantage is customers by making up stories so that they will sell him their silver at way below market price. I wonder how many he has successfully scammed out of hard earned money. I sold generic silver bars at $1 discount on the spot price one week ago with Brad, the owner. My friend went back a week later to sell the same exact silver bars and someone named Andrew said that today generic silver is now a $5 discount on the spot price. My friend didn't know anything about selling silver and would have been taken advantage if were it not for my Intervention. Shame on you, Andrew. Times are difficult. Taking advantage of people during difficult times is not only unprofessional and unethical but lying about silver being "generic" so that you can scam someone on the price is dishonest. Don't waste your time. The guy that was helping me was extremely passive-aggressive the entire time and made me an offer without factoring the diamonds and other gems in. When I asked about it, he claimed he 'didn't realize I brought diamonds' and when I pulled out a ring with a diamond that I already have an appraisal on for over $4,000, he looked at it and said 'yeah I could get this for $20 from India.' After doing some brief Yelp research, I decided to take my set of sterling silverware by Wallace to Houston Gold Exchange today to see how much they would pay for it. After weighing each piece, they said they would give me $330. Since I know very little about the worth of silver, I told them I was going to try another place for a comparison but might be back later this day. They immediately upped their offer to $430! I was quite surprised and decided it was a very good idea to get another quote. I then went to U.S. Coins, who gave me $514. Ok you guys... after reading the bad reviews I still decided to give this place a try because it is close to my house..please listen to the bad reviews and stay far far away. I took my $1800 14k diamond ring here to sell. The guy who spoke like a condescending car salesman told me he would give me $40 for it. LOL...I was shocked! He told me the reason why he could only offer $40 was because my diamonds were cubic zirconia. Ha! I bought my ring and had it appraised myself before, so I knew for a fact that they were diamonds! Mind you he didn't test them, he just looked at them with a magnifier. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. The salesman took all 5 of my gold rings that I wanted to sell and weighed them and did some calculations. I asked that he give me a seperate price for each item so I knew what he was giving me for each one. He shoved the whole lot back at me and said "We don't do it that way". I said, "Well, what if I just brought in this single ring, how much would you give me for that?" I held up a solitary diamond ring with a 3/4 carat diamond that had been appraised years earlier for $5,000. He told me he would give me $200. WHAT!!!!! I thought for sure he meant just the gold, not the diamond. He said "No, including the diamond" I nicely told him that I was suprised by how rude he was being and he shrugged his shoulders and said "That's how we do business". Well, he certainly won't be getting my business, and I would not recommend that anyone go there. EVER! The worst!!!! read more

We were greeted promptly and were shown items quickly. We also looked at watches but didn't purchase one. We met the owner who helped us and then I was also able to have my engagement ring resized while we waited. We also received the appraisal quickly for insurance purposes. We will return. I recently went into Houston Gold Exchange to place an order. I placed an order on Saturday 12/9 for a 14k Gold Bezel. I was asked to put a deposit down that was half of the bezel price which was 150 an was told the bezel would be in on Tuesday 12/12. I did not receive a call on 12/12 letting me know the bezel was in or not. I called the following day an was told it was not in yet. I called the next day an they said they had miss placed it an would call me when they found it. I never received a call. I called again an they informed me they lost/misplace the coin an would have to order another one. This was on 12/16 an the reassures me it would be in Tuesday 12/19. When I called on Tuesday to follow up I was told it wasn't in yet but they were expecting it. I drove up there at 5:30 Tuesday evening to see if it had arrived. I was then told that due to weather in Louisiana it was pushed back a day.(ummmm there were no storms that occurred) I was then informed that the original bezel I ordered on 12/9 the owner actually needed another one to fulfill his personal clients order an that's why I did not receive my bezel, even though I ordered it an made a down payment. The sales rep continue to inform me the Owner does what he wants an if he needs something for his private clients he will take it an other clients will have to wait. She continued to tell me the owner has been in business for 30years so he must be doing something right. I then told her I would be making a YELP review and the customer service was poor. She quickly changed her tone an was like I'm not saying I agree with what he did but I am working ur issue. At that point I left an called to dispute the charge due to me not receiving the bezel an feeling like I'm being bamboozled. BEWARE!!! Take it from a victim. The Houston Gold Exchange is run (owned) by thieves and cheats. My husband took me there ten years ago to upgrade my wedding set. They removed the diamond center stone from my engagement ring (1.01 carat, F-G color and SI2 clarity - per GIA certified appraisal) and were to have mounted it in a new setting we purchased from HGE. When they returned the new ring to me, they gave me a new appraisal detailing the center stone as a 1.01 carat, L color and VVS2 clarity. [pls note: I had been trained to identify the two inclusions in my original stone. This stone had no inclusions. It was obviously a darker, more yellow color than my original stone.] We were told by the Schweiss brothers we had no proof our stone was stolen without a "map" of our stone. A stamped, certified appraisal was apparently not enough. Long story short - we battled for almost a month and, devastated and worn down, I finally gave up the fight. We were told at the time we bought the new setting, they would purchase it back from us at any time for the original purchase price ($6,467 - setting only - excluding my stone) - note to self: get it in writing next time. They also said the setting had a lifetime warranty for repair, or replacement of any broken or missing diamonds. Yesterday I went back to sell the setting (and possibly even the center stone). Brad (the Owner) denied ever making any of those promises and said he had no interest in the ring at all. I pointed out that with a lifetime warranty, he could return the ring to pristeen condition then re-sell it. Still no interest. He basically called me a liar and began escorting me to the door. Oh, and did I mention when we picked up the new ring in 1999, it also came with a GIA certified appraisal for $13,200?!!! I know my insurance company is very interested in this fact. Bet theirs is too! TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES AT THE HOUSTON GOLD EXCHANGE. THEY NOW HAVE TWO LOCATIONS - ONE IN HOUSTON, ANOTHER IN KATY. I'll be working on the legal end of things in the meantime to recover our damages and hopefully help others recover theirs too. Shop around before you buy. Compare retail to wholesale.
