Houston TX Hot Chicken is probably my favorite chicken spot in Bakersfield. There's quite a few spots popping up here and there in Bakersfield, but this one is far superior than the other ones. I originally tried them from a Yelp Event and since then I have visited quite a bit of times now. This location is really nice inside. I like the decor and how their pictures pop and make it inviting. They play music overhead and the staff is nice. There's plenty of seating and they never take long. Parking is also never an issue. The meals are a bit pricey, but these days... what isn't pricey? I think they are about the same price as the other chicken spots in town. I like the hint of sweetness from their chicken. I think that's why I like them more than the other places. I prefer the hint of sweetness versus just a burning sensation on your tongue when you bite into a spicy sandwich. The fries are flavored pretty good also and I hate over salty fries. read more

The vibe in here is nice, they have walls that are definitely IG worthy. Customer service was nice not pushy checked in to see if it was my first visit offer opinions on what to try and what flavors. This isnt a typical Nashville hot chicken spot with mild spicy hot, they also have lemon pepper(which I got) honey butter(also got) BBQ, and some spices after that. Its kinda like Dave's and wingstop had a baby lol. Food was good got the tenders wish there signature sauce had a lil more spice but it was good. This place is awesome! I'm a huge chicken sandwich fan so I'm very pleased to see another chicken sandwich spot open up in Bakersfield. Stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night and it was busy! I took that as a great sign for good food. Menu had a great variety and I was impressed by that. Tried the mild chicken sandwich with a buffalo chicken tender and they were both so good! I think I preferred the buffalo over the mild, just had more of a bold flavor. High quality ingredients used here and it is appreciated. My meal came with fries as well and I loved that they were crinkle cut! Bonus! Overall, I can't wait to come back again! Son and I decided to try a new place tonight so after looking online we decided we would try one of the many hot chicken places descending on Bakersfield: Houston TX Hot Chicken. We ordered to go and they prepared our order in a very timely fashion. I really liked the ambiance of the dining room, although my side of the table we were sitting at was extremely sticky. Our server was very courteous and professional, and offered my son samples of the lemonade which he shared with me: strawberry hibiscus, cucumber watermelon, and blueberry lavender. Nice flavor combinations and they're available as lemonades or frozen lemonades. Okay onto the food! Son ordered the original combo, spiced "spicy". His sandwich came with pickles and slaw on it, and a side of fries. I ordered the "mild" loaded fries. Everybody enjoys different things - even though the spice level was very low for both of us, the chicken had good flavor. The breading on the sandwich looked light to me. The breading on the chicken tenders in the loaded fries was very good. The loaded fries come with two tenders, chopped up, fries, pickles, slaw, and sauce. My slaw was made of large chunks of cabbage - I'm not sure if that's Houston slaw. Flavor was decent but not what I expected. Portion sizes were ample, prices are what you'd expect ... high, but not higher than anywhere else. Houston TX Hot Chicken was okay. This location is not as fast paced as the location Rosedale . This location is smaller and calmer . It has outdoor seating with a large patio. The inside is clean and relatively quiet. This would be a great spot for lunch with the family or friends. The staff inside are kind and attentive. Service here happens quickly ,and you won't wait long for your food . I tried the five piece nuggets with honey butter and the loaded fries with buffalo sauce. They arrived quickly and were freshly made. I really wanted to like this place but it was barely edible. The chicken strips were way over cooked. The meat was dry and stringy. The breading was hard and despite being covered in seasoning, it was relatively bland. The coleslaw had a strange smell and weird aftertaste. I threw the entire cup in trash. The ranch was super thin, I mean like barely thicker than water and it was sour. The french fries were standard crinkle cut, they were hot and seasoned well. Hello, this is the same 19 year old from the other review of HHC, The manager saw my review and gave me credit to try the food again which was very sweet, Thank you Shyann! First of all the experience was great, the ambiance is great. Now let's get to the real stuff, The bread is great, buttery, fluffy and soft. The pickles are great!! Now the sauce needs to be changed, It just doesn't match well with the chicken if you tried other hot chicken spots you expect that SAUCE. My sister who's not picky also didn't like the sauce she said " it's like something you put on sushi, you can't enjoy with it your chicken." I said it taste like that cheap nacho cheese from the fair with sugar. The fries are KILLER, so salty, it's addictive, very well seasoned, I really enjoyed them, I would probably go back just for the those FRIES!! NOW LETS GET TO THE CHICKEN. I got the sandwhich spicy and tenders medium to see the spice levels. The chicken was dry in the inside, it's missing that chicken juice when you bite into it. The seasoning around it was pretty Hot, I'll like to say I'm in the middle of dealing with heatness, after 3 bites my mouth was starting to burn then after 4 it started to kick in. Now for the tender I got medium which is below spicy, I had got this one months ago and I didn't like it. When I first opened the box, the seasoning smelt like ramen noodles, even my sister said the same lol. It's like when you first open the cup of noodles and the seasonings on top off it. The tender tasted more dry, like I said it's needs the Chicken juice!! The friedness was really crispy, I usually like it tender where the skin would just slide off super easily , it reminded me of popcorn chicken a lot, it was bland and stringy and it wasn't spicy, i'm use to eating hot chicken, even mild at angry chicks is hotter than the medium at HHC. So some type of spice level needs to be adjusted, it's goes normal from sonic chicken, to where your mouth is a little on fire and if you eat two sliders that are spicy, you'll probably get a runny noise. Making the medium more spicy would be a must. So overall the chickened needs to be seasoned better and the sauce needs to be changed but overall I'll give it a 5.9/10 do to it being spicy this time and I can't lie I enjoyed the spicyness for a little bit but then it started burning and it wasn't enjoyable anymore. Decided to have chicken for dinner and we came to Houston TX hot chicken since now we have one on this side of town. In the moment we walked in, we were greeted instantly and walked into the workers wiping everything down, which was comforting because the place is very clean and I feel like the customer service is great. I mean it's almost rare now that when you go out to eat your checked on two or three times by the employees to make sure everything was good. The chicken was great. Online ordering was easy and my food was ready as soon as I arrived- which I really love! I walked in and noticed the interior was decorated in a really fun vibe- I didn't take pictures cause it was crowded and I got shy!! I let the server know when I arrived the name of the order and she let me know it was ready, very friendly staff! They put all the order correctly and added any utensils needed- love places that do that- I ordered the original chicken sandwich with a tender, buffalo style- I actually wish I ordered the spicy as buffalo was delicious but there really wasn't any heat but that's my fault. Fries were tasty and perfectly crispy which is a surprise because drove home before eating it. My wife ordered the salad she really liked it but did mention it was on the small side and I gotta agree- so heads up if your planning on ordering the salad it's pretty small but really good.
