Old River Grill at Brimhall has been one of my go-to breakfast spots for years, with both close friends and family, this recent family visit reminded me why I keep coming back--mostly for the great food that hits hot and hearty, but especially for Sylvia's outstanding service. We kicked things off with what I think were the "complimentary" beignet sticks, and, they lit up my grandkids' eyes the second they hit the table, all dusted in powdered sugar. But after one bite, their excitement crashed hard; those sticks were overcooked--hard, dry, and deep-fried way past recognition. The kids just licked off the sugar and called them "gross," which made me laugh a little. Honestly your mini muffins were usually a hit with them... Anyhoo.. luckily, the rest of the meal turned it around.... THE GRUB :The blueberry Meyer lemon pancakes were a total hit with everyone, bursting with flavor. My birria breakfast burrito and the Jalisco Benedict dish came out steaming hot with awesome flavors, even if the Sopes were a tad tough--the special menu is something this place does so well. The kids' meals were solid ; they devoured the chicken strips and pancakes, but the sausage ? Total letdown--dry as a bone inside and looking just like those sad beignet sticks from the start. THE STAFF ..Sylvia was the real MVP, as always. She's been a staple here forever, and we trusted every single one of her menu suggestions--they were all spot-on, and we loved them, minus a few minor details mentioned previously. She's super attentive, fun, friendly, and makes the whole experience better . Overall, solid meal at one of my local fave with killer mains and top-tier service from Sylvia, but those beignet sticks and sausage need a rethink. Still giving Old River Grill love and planning my next visit. But taking notes on what dishes to stay away from. FINALLY: The location is clean and well kept but the very horrible finished booth wall, I had to sit next to when eating, they know it's like that. This was my first visit to Old River Grill. My friend has been here three times and thought it was someplace I would enjoy. She ordered her usual Eggs Benedict and I got the patty melt with the beer battered fries. Everything was delicious, but we were both only able to eat half of our meal. I was so bummed I couldn't bring the rest with me for another meal, but we had a full day of shopping ahead of us and didn't want to leave it in the hot car. Their service and food is awesome! I had an omelette which was fantastic, but what blew that away was there cinnamon roll pancakes! Since Broken Yolk left I havnt been able to find a comparable replacement for theirs I have now! The pancake had a wonderful crunch while being fluffy. It had the perfect amount of icing I didn't even need syrup! Granted I did only have one so the amount of syrup needed could changed for the bigger stack. I always enjoy the food from Old River Grill. I also get excited to see what they have for their monthly specials. During this visit, I decided to try their Oxtail Chilaquiles. It was a good choice. The only thing is I wish my oxtail was a little more moist. The beef seemed more like chuck roast. Also, my over medium egg turned out "over hard". I'm sure it's due to the hot plate they put the food on. I'm thinking I should've ordered it over easy. At any rate, the food was delicious and the service was good. Our server was attentive as well. Stopped in for lunch. Again we were quickly seated and served. I watched our orders hit the window. My pet peeve is watching my food sit on the window and be ignored by the servers. First timer and boy oh boy! This place is a must go too! I had the fried chicken in gravy with hash browns, eggs and the quality from the gravy to the seasoning on the chicken was to perfection. I eat out a lot so it takes an impressive dish for me to leave a review. The service was fast and our server was super helpful and answered all of our menu questions. We sat outside with our one year old and they accommodated us with a high chair that was clean and not sticky like other places. The outside patio area is private and felt comfortable. Time for delicious breakfast at Old River Grill at Brimhall Square. This location is my choice. We walked in around 8am ahead of the crowd. This location is decorated so cool it makes me want to head for a lake or steam go fishing camping it hits all the your favorite outdoor activities. Comfortable booths good friendly prompt service excellent food. The menu is gigantic. Scrimp omelette with biscuits & gravy and French toast, eggs and bacon fr were the choices all orders came out fast and didn't disappoint. It was a hot morning but luckily they put us under umbrellas and next to a huge fan. The menu is pretty big and they also have a seasonal menu. I ordered the Marry Me Chicken Omelette with home fries and shared some pancakes. The omelette was very unique. I've never had anything like it before and it was delicious. The pancakes were fluffy. During a huge power and internet outage in my community, I desperately needed a place where I could get breakfast and reliable internet so I could continue working. I'm so glad I found Old River Grill on Brimhall. From the moment I walked in, Silvia greeted me with such warmth and kindness. She was incredibly attentive and reassuring, and she made me feel completely welcome to stay and work until their closing time (2:30 pm.) She checked on me throughout my stay to see if I needed anything and was sweet and thoughtful the entire time. Another employee, Alberto, also went above and beyond. He greeted me with an upbeat, charismatic demeanor and was kind, respectful, and genuinely caring. I truly felt welcomed, I feel like this level of service is rare nowadays. When I mentioned I needed an outlet to charge my laptop, he immediately helped me and made sure I was all set. That level of attentiveness truly meant a lot. This was my first time visiting this location, and because of their beautiful, warm hospitality, I absolutely plan on coming back. The entire restaurant was spotless clean, fresh, and cozy and the food was excellent. I can't believe I had this gem of a café diner right across the street from my neighborhood. I really enjoyed this breakfast spot! We had a larger party and sat outside and it was nice. It was a bit warm but there was a fan blowing out there so it wasn't unbearable. There was a large menu with a ton of options. They also had some seasonal menu items. I ordered the country fried steak meal and a coffee. I thought the country fried steak was flavorful and the breading was crispy. The gravy complimented it well. I went with a side of fruit and the fruits were sweet too! As well as their regular menu, they offer a monthly specials side menu. I have had a chance to try new items as well as raised eyebrows at some offerings. They offer fried green tomatoes in season. This month's offering is an assortment of Birria beef selections. Being a chef in a restaurant like Old River Grill, must take a certain kind of persons and food is consistently good. They offer a nice shaded outdoor seating, which is nice this time of year. The food is always great here. I have never had a less than great meal. A few weeks ago I took my mother, who had never been and she very old school and can be a little cranky over silly thinks like no Diet Coke or there not being the "right creamer". It's a chore but I love her. The server must have spidey senses cause she just went into over drive Kill with Kindness mode and was very accommodating to all my mother request. The fact my mother said she liked the service meant to me she was in a good space and I appreciate the leadership having such attentive staff. Looking forward to my next visit.
