Honestly, if i could give 4.5 stars thats what I would do here. It's just not quite 5. I have been here 2 times now and both were a very similar experience. The restaurant is very clean and decorated pretty well to the theme with lots of large tvs for watching the games no matter where you get seated. There is a decent patio as well. Both of my visits were weekdays so business was pretty slow on the restaurant side but the bar had people. Its a full bar. Service is pretty on top of things and I have felt positive about that both visits with different workers serving us. One thing that initially surprised us was the menu is mostly Mexican food. It wasn't a bad thing, in fact, the Mexican dishes are the best ones on the menu! It was just not really what we expected from the decor and descriptions the first visit. We really enjoyed everything both visits. Great rice and beans consistently. The seasoning is good. Not a big fan of the chips though. We came here blindly on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is new and decorated nicely. When we arrived it was quiet and there were a few others dining but when we left there was a large group from a pickleball tournament arriving and the volume had increased quite a bit. Busy on Mother's Day we had reservations for 8, at 5pm. Multiple TVs with sports on, very nice golf themed interior highlighting the masters at Augusta Chips and salsa water were out right away. Mostly Mexican choices on menu friendly busy staff some steaks Wife's enjoyed a Elisio salad with grilled chicken, strawberries, cranberries and raspberry vinaigrette dressing, with spring lettuce and blue cheese crumbles. I was very satisfied with their chicken taco salad I finished it all. Walking in, we saw customers seat themselves so we decided to just sit at the bar. When we saw the menus, jaws dropped. Mexican food! Omg! I'm going to be honest, I was assuming they were just going to serve plain boring burgers and chicken tenders especially with where it's located and the name itself. The salsa with the chips were very flavorful and spicy. The food arrived and wow. They fill up the plates and it was aamaaazing. The rice and refried beans were cooked perfectly and the enchiladas were so tasty and I loved the sauce they used. I have no complaints with the food. I absolutely HATE giving a bad review. Especially when it's a local, independent business. The menu is one of the smallest I've seen at a restaurant. The food wasn't of quality or taste for the price. The drinks were good, but also overpriced. There isn't a theme or decor, which I didn't expect with 19th Hole being the name. Empty decor and tables too closely crowded together. We went on a Friday at 5:15 and there were about 12 people in the bar area and only one other table with people seated in the restaurant area. The vibe is casual and reminds me of other little grills that offer a small menu and have a bar. The seating is more pub style. This is not a place for a romantic dinner, if you're looking for that, go elsewhere. This place is for drinks after work, or after a round of golf with friends. There's some food offerings, and they are decent. The burger is great, the salad is really good too. The service is where the place shines. The waiter was so nice and helpful. I recommend trying the place during happy hour, you can grab a drink and they have small plates on that menu as well at a discount. I recommend the queso fundido. Yum! Low rating is due primarily to the fact that the food just wasn't great - plating left a lot to be desired (the food just didn't look good), and portion sizes weren't comparable to the price per dish. I got the Chicken Wrap and my husband got the Island Shrimp - both were just okay. The fries were drenched in oil, the onion rings were probably the best part of the whole experience. The place is very clean, and service was friendly, but there were only two other tables that came in for the hour we were there (6pm on a Thursday night). There were quite a few people in the bar area, so perhaps that's where the draw is - come to have some appetizers and a drink or two, neither of which we did on this visit. Might we come back for a happy hour visit because it's close? Maybe, but I can't see us returning for a meal. read more

The gem of Buena Vista neighborhood in Bakersfield. First things first... excellent ambiance with excellent staff. Felt welcome from the moment I opened the door. Plenty of TV's to enjoy your sports. Perfect music selection. Food is outstanding. We had the jalapeno poppers, to start. Super yummy. Hatch burger was one of the best burgers I've had here in Bakersfield. Dessert was scrumdiddlyumptious, creme brulee cheesecake...yes please. The restaurant is separated in two parts... spacious dining room on one side and an absolutely beautiful bar with tables on the other. There's even a patio. We gave this place a shot after hearing multiple reasons as to why it wasn't good. Nothing stuck out on the menu to me, except the NY Steak, mainly because of the Chimichurri which is what sold me, and it's also the most expensive item on the menu. It came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I subbed the vegetables for a salad. Ordered the steak Rare. My steak came out, missing Chimichurri. I asked our waitress where it was and she said sorry and she'll be back with it. She comes and says they are out! How are you out of such a simple but main ingredient of your steak on the menu? She brings me A1 instead Then I try my steak. Or piece of tire rubber. This piece of meat was so well done it had not an ounce of even pink in it. It was seared and clearly cooked in an oven and had no flavor. I kept my mouth shut though as I am not one to complain. Half way through eating the steak the waitress comes back and I had realized there was no mashed potatoes on my plate (completely forgot at this point because I was annoyed nothing was good) and she said she'd be right back with them and asked if there was anything else. That's when I decided to tell her how bad the steak was being over cooked. I told her to take my plate and that I'm not paying for it. She said let me get the owner. The only consistency is that they are never consistent. One time they served my salmon raw in the middle. Another time I asked for no cheese on my hamburger and it was served with cheese when I bought it to the server's attention, the burger was taken away and they couldn't bother to cook a new patty. They just scraped off the cheese -really classy! I went one last time and their menu has changed to where it's now partially a Mexican restaurant and their prices have gone way up. Well, unfortunately here's my follow-up review for this place, as I promised we would give it a fair chance to improve since their recent opening. I went by myself this time, on a Thursday evening. They've been open for a few months now, certainly long enough that they should have all the bugs worked out by now. They had a few customers, but not near as many as a bar/restaurant in Bakersfield needs to have on a Thursday night. They did expand the bar area by moving the wall, but that's it. No improvements in the decor whatsoever. It still looks and feels just like a cafeteria. Calling the "19th Hole" as if it is somehow attracting the golf crowd from the nearby golf course is just a joke. Ok, now the food. Horrible. Overpriced mediocre crap you can get at any roadside diner. I ordered the Wedge Salad, hoping they can't screw that up. But, they did. See the picture attached. I should have known when I ordered it and the broken-English-speaking bartender/waiter asked if I wanted any dressing. This is what he brought. With a little plastic cup of store-bought crappy bleu cheese dressing on the side. When I told him this isn't a Wedge Salad, all he could say is this is what the owner says it is. The steak was very thin, rubbery, and overcooked even though I specifically ordered medium rare. Lastly, the check. They charge extra if you use a credit card. I get it, credit card companies charge a fee. But blatantly passing this on to the customer rather than just merely including this in the cost of doing business is very unprofessional. Especially for food that is WAY overpriced for the mediocre quality that it is. If you're going to charge premium high prices for food, it needs to be worth it, and the staff needs to be well-trained and professional. We really REALLY wanted this place to be nice. The chicken on the salad was rubbery. Once I get the texture of rubbery chicken it's a no for me. I can't finish it. My son ordered lemon pepper wings and a side of fries. He took one bite and said they were gross. Of course I told him they were fine and to eat his lunch. I tried one and couldn't even ask him to finish it. I went with a friend for breakfast last weekend. First thing we noticed was the music was very loud. We couldn't hear each other talk! Our server did turn it down. We decided on the veggie omelette and told her we would like to share it. When it came, the omelette was so small!! We used the extra plate and divided it between us. Each of us got maybe four bites, plus a few potatoes. The omelette was rather tasteless and you would need a microscope to find any veggies. I am always amazed how a new restaurant opens up and is locally owned and during their first few months all the bad reviews start coming in. People this is not a chain where they have a ton of money and can train staff months ahead of time. My wife and I came in and for dinner and I had the NY Steak , cooked to perfection!!! I had the chicken sandwich which was actually really good. I ordered fries with it which were just ok. My spouse got the hamburger with onion rings. The onion rings were over fried which made them difficult to eat. His hamburger patty tasted like a premade or previously frozen patty. Nothing was horrible but nothing was completely perfect either which is the reason I gave them 3 stars. Our server was on point though and she checked in with us throughout our meal and made sure our cups were never empty. The menu doesn't really jive together at all. I would tell them to pick 10 things they really love making and stick to that with fresh, prepped on site ingredients. The bar is crammed over to the left and almost an afterthought. There was zero thought given to decor / ambiance throughout the entire place and the lack of effort is extremely apparent. The server was very welcoming and extremely helpful with ordering from the menu. The environment of this location is clean and unique which gives a very calm and relaxing vibe. The food was really good especially their chicken Alfredo. Steak came with two sides which were both really well done and flavorful.
