We saw the word casino and knew we had to check it out. The lobby was pretty nice, with a similar set up to the Gaylord in Orlando. It's a huge open space with plants and a koi pond in the lobby. They also had a nice craft market in the lobby featuring local vendors with baked goods, clothing and jewelry. If we weren't on a mission to get to the port, we could easily spend the day here!

Ground floor is lively, with a 4-way intersection in the middle of a manmade grotto and a handful of shops and stops along the outskirts. There's a lovely pool area in the back, and the casino is not too crazy when it's open. The room we stayed in was a little worn, weirdly humid and slightly damp smelling. The linens were clean and the amenities worked, but the room definitely showed its age. View from the window was of a lot of buildings, so not much to look at. Front end staff were friendly. Public spaces were clean, and the gym was small but good enough for a hotel gym area. Breakfast is a quarter of the ground floor. Plenty of seating, lots of options. Food was okay, a step above other hotels but still a low bar to clear. All the breakfast basics with omelette options. It's a perfectly fine stop if you're planning on going someplace else the next day. If you had to spend a lot of time here, I'm sure the issues would mount exponentially. Given its location to the cruise ports and airport, it's good enough. For travelers, Make sure to check which pier to go to if you're cruising. This hotel doesn't offer shuttle service and there's two ports on that side. If you get off at the wrong one, it will be a 1.5 mile trek to the other.

Worst Hotel Experience - Misleading Photos & Unprofessional Management…read more We recently stayed at TRYP by Wyndham in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and it was without a doubt the worst hotel experience we've ever had. We had booked this stay to celebrate a special occasion--our anniversary--and were extremely disappointed from the moment we arrived. To be clear, this review is not a reflection of the front desk reception staff, who were courteous and doing their job. However, the property itself was nothing like the photos advertised on Expedia. The exterior of the hotel was run down and immediately gave off an unwelcoming, neglected impression. Despite our initial concerns, we tried to keep an open mind and proceeded to park our rental car and check in. The experience quickly went downhill from there. As soon as we stepped into the elevator, it was clear that cleanliness was not a priority. The floors were dirty, the walls had visible smudges, and it was obvious the area had not been properly cleaned or maintained. We hoped things would improve once we got to our room--but it only got worse. The hallway leading to our room had a strong, unpleasant odor--like mildew or damp laundry left out for too long. When we entered our room, we were absolutely appalled. The shower was filthy, with so much buildup on the glass door that you could barely see through it. The tiles were broken, the caulking was cracked and discolored, and there was an accumulation of grime in the corners that made it clear the bathroom hadn't been properly cleaned in years. We were in the room for less than two minutes before deciding we could not stay there. We immediately returned to the front desk to ask for a refund, completely disgusted by the conditions. That's when things took an even worse turn. We were told a manager named Juan would assist us. Unfortunately, Juan was completely unhelpful and unprofessional. He brought us to see an "upgraded" room with an ocean view, which was just as bad--scratched-up mini fridge, dirty nightstand with old drink residue, and no real improvement in cleanliness or quality. When we told him we still weren't comfortable and offered to pay for one night if they released the rest of the reservation, Juan became difficult and dismissive. He refused to let us speak to a manager named Griselda, despite multiple requests. He insisted he was the only one in charge and claimed the reservation couldn't be refunded because of Expedia's policies--even though Expedia told us it was refundable. We were only able to resolve the issue after offering Juan $100 in cash--at which point he finally agreed to release the reservation and process the refund. Ironically, we witnessed him smoking cigarettes while on duty, which tells you everything you need to know about the level of professionalism at this property. We left and walked one minute down the street to Royal Sonesta, which was a true 5-star experience and exactly the kind of place that matched our expectations for a special celebration. TRYP by Wyndham San Juan is a complete misrepresentation of what is advertised online. It is dirty, outdated, and poorly managed. Juan, in particular, has no business working in hospitality--his behavior was sketchy at best, and I will be disputing the charge with my bank, as I have video proof of him confirming the refund. Avoid this place at all costs. Spend your money somewhere you'll be treated with respect and provided with a clean, safe place to stay.

Not many people write about three star hotels. First of all, they aren't exciting, not at all as a…read morematter of fact. Secondly, they are generally not bad enough to write an intriguing story about finding a dead rodent in the bed. Thus, they fall into the general category of: it's there, there is nothing to say about it. As the first time visiting this particular brand segment of Wyndham, it was a rather pleasant surprise. While the roof above the car pull-up area may have been leaking, there was a gentleman opening the door. The lobby interior is solid, in some elements beautiful for its star level. Front desk was to the point, without too much friendliness or rudeness. The room was decently sized and while no upgrade was provided despite status, it had extremely comfortable feather pillows. All elements of the room were clean and WiFi worked flawlessly. The room is quite nice design wise for a property of this caliber also. As a whole, this Tryp by Wyndham property is best compared to an Aloft or a Hyatt Place. It gives a good night's rest and is a solid representation of what a 3 star hotel should be.

An Absolute Gem in San Juan - Wish We Had More Time!…read more We stayed at the Fairmont for one night after disembarking from our cruise, and our only regret is that we didn't book a longer stay. From the moment you walk in, the entryway takes your breath away with a massive chandelier made of thousands of pounds of crystal--it's easily one of the nicest hotels I've ever visited. The amenities are endless. Whether you're looking for a casino, multiple high-end restaurants, or lively clubs and bars, everything is right on-site. We spent a good amount of time at the pool deck, which was amazing. The pools are intricate and beautiful, featuring plenty of seating and convenient swim-up bars. We also loved the easy access to the beach, which was notably clean and very peaceful. As for the room, it was massive and spotless. The king-size mattress was incredibly comfortable, making for a perfect night's sleep. We are already planning our next trip to Puerto Rico specifically to spend more time here!

We booked the Fairmont for a Monday-Saturday stay through a friend of mine that's a travel agent…read more The first time we walked in the lobby, we were definitely impressed by the dark wood and beautiful chandelier. It definitely gave a classy vibe. The beach and resort grounds are beautiful too, with clean pools and helpful waitstaff. I only wish the rooms had been held to the same standards. My parents' room was ready first, and though we had booked for a king room in the main hotel, we both ended up getting free upgrades to the banyan bungalows due to "high occupancy". We noticed a slight odor when we walked into my parents' room, but shrugged it off, dropped our bags, and went to lunch at the beach club (which was wildly expensive might I add). While we were at lunch, it poured rain, and afterwards we went to the casino and then got the notification that the room for my husband and I was ready. We went to collect our bags that we had dropped in our parents' room, and we were greeted with an intense, undeniable sewage smell. Everyone got headaches just from a few minutes in there. My parents immediately called the front desk to send someone out and ask if they could switch rooms. The head of housekeeping came and was extremely transparent, saying this is a known problem and this room and one other at the end always get a strong sewage smell after it rains. Thankfully, they moved my parents into the poolside villas, but we were disgusted at the fact that they knowingly are putting people in that room despite it being a public health hazard. They also claim that the banyan bungalows are newly renovated, which was wild to us considering the smell and dirty rugs we had in both of our rooms. The poolside villas at least felt newer, however, there was mold on the ceiling above the shower and a musty smell that came through the vents when the air conditioning came on. My mom wasn't feeling well by the end of the trip from breathing it in every night, but no one felt like wanting to switch rooms again. There was little apology from the front desk when my parents switched rooms. Finally when they texted my parents asking how their stay was mid-week and my mom mentioned the inconvenience, they did provide a $100 credit which was appreciated. Our travel agent was appalled, as this was supposed to be one of the nicest resorts in Puerto Rico and she had even called the day before to verify our rooms would be next to each other and exactly as we had booked. Unfortunately, the first impression of our rooms just left a bad taste in our mouth. We tried to make the best of the rest of the trip and ignore the lipstick on a pig vibes that the hotel gave. While checking out, I caught a valet parking fee of $33 that was added on to our tab, which was impossible because we never rented a car and only ubered the entire time. Thankfully, they took it off without a fight. If I come back to Puerto Rico, we likely won't be returning here, which is a shame because we did enjoy the resort and casino itself.

Three-star quality at five-star prices…read more Be sure to read the fine print when making a reservation. This hotel runs a "20% hotel tariff" scam that gets tacked onto the bill. The only logical explanation is that this policy makes the room prices appear to cost about $200 a night less than the real charges. Otherwise, why not just raise the advertised price by 20%? There is no doubt the property is in a gorgeous location, sitting directly on the ocean. The buildings are in good condition and the staff is courteous. But, I experienced several shortfalls compared to my expectations for this price point. The suites are provided a "butler," but the available hours are 10am to 6pm. The service would be more accurately described as a concierge. Bringing coffee in the morning is not on the list of duties, nor assisting with unpacking or packing or other typical butler activities. Sending out laundry the day before my departure, I asked to have it folded so it would be easier to pack. Everything came back on hangers. My room did not receive turn-down service and fresh towels during the third night of my stay. I asked to have a car booked to the airport from the hotel. The butler got it backwards and booked it from the airport to the hotel. Good thing that I took a close look at the confirmation and noticed the routing was backwards. The breakfast restaurant, Ola, is extremely crowded in the morning with a 30 to 60 minute wait being typical in my experience. The front of the property is in a skeevy neighborhood so walking somewhere else for breakfast isn't a realistic option. It's not bad, but also not a top tier. property.

The front desk remains unattended several times a day for the staff to run personal errands, And while they are there they are clueless and all makes up different things. For example: I arrived early and my room wasn't ready. They put my luggage in storage, and wrote my phone number down. " We'll call you once your room is ready" Approximately 1 hour after checkin, I approached the front desk. "Oh your room is ready." I stated I never got the phone call. Her response "Oh we forgot." Sent me on my way to room 905. About half hour later another couple with my group arrived. They were greeted with drinks and the red carpet was rolled out. The pool staff is obnoxious and rude. We was at the pool level patio, where we ordered food and drinks. After some food and 2 rounds of terrible drinks, he brought us all receipts and said 20% gratituities were added to each of the couples bill. (3 Different couples). Ok, we all laughed and said we was going to tip more than that anyway. His loss!Room was 905 was beautiful just like in the pictures, and a beachview. No complaints there. Wasn't in the room much. We actually booked 2 extra days. I was then notified that I must checkout at 12;00 and checkin at 4;00 pm.I actually requested to keep the same room as we had unpacked.. Again someone else said the same thing. I must checkout. Then I happen to see the midnight supervisor. told him the situation and said it could be done. He would have done it, but he said it has to be after 3am when the days in the system roll over. Of course I went to bed. I went back to the front desk that morning. After waiting 30 minutes for someone to attend, a young lady came. Told her everything, including what the manager said and flatly boldly said "He's wrong, You have to check out." I proceed to check out before noon. As it was getting close to noon, I started receiving text messages about a late checkout for an additional $150. My phone number is working now.I checked out and put my luggage in storage, and was reassured again that I would receive a call as soon as a room was available. About 2 hours after checkin started I returned to the front desk, was given new key bracelets. I stated again, I thought you was going to call me. Her response was a laugh and she stated "Oh I forgot." Now I'm in room 608, which was visibly much smaller. The closet was missing a glass door, And the bed was terrible compared to room 905. The sheet were even stained. Put the do not disturb sign on the door. Lo and behold. Heard a knock. Before I could answer, housekeeping was keying into my room. I asked what was she doing and posted at the sign, She stated "Oh sorry, I didn't see it" I think she was coming to look for something to steal. Also construction is going on. Every early morning guest are awakened by what should and feels like they are jack hammering through the building. There is a terrible smell, like a dead rodent or human down the walkway to. the street. And yes the hotel knows about it. All the employees cover their faces and noses when exiting the building. This is not luxury!

It's not huge, but there are day beds and lounge chairs. We booked a day bed and it was very comfortable. The pool overlooks the beach, which is lovely. The music was fun. We had a nice breeze from the ocean. The pool was warm, which I did not love. It felt like a bathtub and I would've preferred a bit cooler, so you can actually cool off in the heat. The pool deck had ant swarms on it, which is why I'm giving three stars. I had just spent days on a pool deck nearby and had seen exactly zero bugs, so this tells me they are not treating the hotel. Due to that, I would never, ever stay here, even though it looks nice, nor would I return to the pool. Even my boyfriend, who is not usually bothered my anything, was unhappy about the ants. Pool deck bathrooms were clean. We still ate, because we had to, since we were there all day. The food was delicious. We got the beef empanadas, beef pinchos with fries, and sweet chili wings. They don't have a cocktail list, so they just make whatever you want, though we did not get anything. This could have been a great experience but my concerns about the cleanliness outweigh what could have been.
