Dr. Liu is the man. I went in today for a consultation to get 2 moles removed. He ended up being able to take them off on the spot so I didn't have to come back. I arrived at 3:10 and was out the door at 3:55... never had such a fast doctor's visit in my life (and I even had to fill out forms and such and still got out of there in 45 min). The office itself is nice. The receptionists were all very pleasant and up-beat (usually not something you find much at doctors' offices). I visited Dr. Liu about 3 or 4 times in intervals of 1-1.5 months. I was usually kept waiting for a long period of time, which I didn't like, but thought it would be worth it. He did introduce me to one of my favorite new products: Glytone body wash and body lotion, but overall didn't help what I came in for. He recommended a skin care regimen for me that did more damage than help. I realize now that the cream I was using actually gave me an allergic reaction, but when I first used it I thought my face was supposed to sting and tingle. When I told him about it, he said that my skin was just adjusting to the products. He did suggest doing laser on my skin, but it was super expensive. Overall he's an OK doctor. I don't think he was trying to get me to spend more, but I also don't think he knew what products I should have been using for my face. read more

I went to Dr. Liu because of the positive Yelp reviews, and am happy I did! I went in to get a refill on acne medicine that I have been using for years and get a yearly skin cancer check. His staff was incredibly kind and welcoming from the moment I walked in. Dr. Liu he was very friendly and engaging. He didn't push any products on me and even asked how well my insurance was covering my current products. When I told him that I just switched insurances, he said that if it is too costly under my new insurance, to call him and he will give a generic version that most insurances cover. I thought it was great that he offered that! The only downside is that I did have to wait a while once I was in the back room to see him originally and then again when he came back to remove a mole. However, I did see him late in the afternoon and it would definitely not stop me from recommending him! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Liu for a while and each time I went to him he was in and out before I could go through my list of questions. He makes no effort to hide the fact he has no interest in the dermatology aspects of his profession and he's only interested in getting the big money from fillers and other plastic surgery type procedures. I went to see him for a skin check and he barely glanced at me and said you're good and was out the door. I have skin cancer in the family, have had mole checks before, and that is not the way it works. If you're looking for a doctor who cares about you I highly suggest you look for someone else. I was referred to him by my primary physician. I've seen him twice and everything he prescribed for my blemishes so far has worked. He's very nice in person and you can tell he knows what he's doing. I've been going to Dr. Liu for years and have always had a wonderful experience. He is amazing, knows his stuff and is a really good guy. His staff is fantastic and super kind! The whole office is top notch and I really appreciate the care that they all gave me. I went in today to get an IPL and Laser treatment and was a bit nervous because I've never done anything like this before. The staff was so easy going and nurturing that my fears were gone after 5 minutes of being there. Dr Liu did the treatments himself, did a great job of letting me know what he was doing and how it would feel which totally alleviated all of my worries. As I'm writing this, I'm not in any pain at all and can't wait to see the results once I'm healed. People talk about Groupon specials or going elsewhere to save a little money but I would NEVER trust my face to anyone who wasn't a Dr. and certainly will never go to anyone except Dr. Liu. I can't rave enough about him and his staff, they are as good as it gets and have me as a patient for life! read more

He's very knowledgable, personable, and explains very clearly so it is easy to understand. I can see how other people are saying he looks rushed but it didn't really bother me. Robin (the receptionist) is very friendly but often times you have to leave her a voicemail and wait for her to call you back. In my experience you can see Dr. Liu in probably about 3-7 days from calling to make an appointment. The only drawback for me was that he's very pricey. I wanted to get some procedure done by him but had to shop around because of the price. Several of my child hood friends had been finding pre cancer spots lately so I decided to play it safe and get it checked out. I only write bad reviews when absolutely necessary. I don't like doing it but also can't stay silent when an experience has been especially poor. Like today. I've been to Dr. Liu a few times and have always waited about 20 - 25 mins after my appointment. Pretty standard. I made my appointment today about two weeks in advance for a 2 minute skin check. Here's how it went: 2:10pm: arrive for 2:15pm appt. Specifically ask if Dr. is on time. Yes, I'm told. 2:15pm: check in and seated in waiting room 2:20pm: lead into exam room 2:40pm: Calmly walk out and ask what's going on. Told it would just be two mins. 2:50pm: Oops! Out of time. Have to leave -get dressed. No one is around to tell that I'm leaving. Nurse finally runs down the hall blaming the doctor for the disorganization of whatever is going on in this office. Number of times a nurse came to check on me with an update during my wait time: 0 Number of apologies for the inconvenience: 0 Number of times I'll be going back: 0 Good Dr. but VERY disorganized office staff. After a two hour wait to see the doctor, he finally arrived commenting about the fact that his previous patient kept him talking "nonsense". I was a bit in disbelief, also as his appearance was disheveled and unkempt... he looked like he had had a rough night (his appearance was that of someone who was hung over)... it made me very uncomfortable. The discomfort I was feeling soon turned to anger as I tried to talk to Dr. Liu about my skin issues and he wouldn't listen. He seemed as though he just wanted to be done, pretending to already know the problem and answer and wanting to rush out of there. He was with me a whole 3 minutes... 3 minutes... I rarely do this and when I do it is typically for positive reviews. However, this has been the worst doctors/front office experience I have had in my life. When I signed on to Yelp write this... I saw the other negative reviews and I would have to say they seem to hold true from my visit. I hate having to find a doctor on my own. So, after two referrals from two of my co-workers I finally broke down to make an appointment for a cancer skin check. I called two weeks prior to my appointment.... So, not to bad of a wait time. When I made my appointment it was all about my insurance and if i was in the system. No personal conversation or tact. Which of course I was in the system.... I have lived in Los Angeles for 20 years. Monday at 11am was time I could get in... So, I take a half day off of work to be seen... pay for parking......show up 10 min's before only to be told by the front desk that there wasn't an appointment made. (I don't know about you but, I just don't randomly show up at doctor's offices for fun mind you). I am then instructed to go behind the door to another desk and talk to another person. With no greeting from the other person, I am then asked for my phone number. After a brief pause was asked if I preferred morning appointments..... My reply was "does this mean I don't have an appointment"? I was then instructed to "look over there". "Those are his charts and if you wait it will be over an hour". I was like rude... I don't know what I am looking at and how dare you talk to me like that. I was so taking back all I could say was "no thank you... I will just find another doctor". I was calm and had no energy to make a scene... and trust me I normally have no problem letting someone know what I think of them. I am shocked they didn't even try to save me as a patient. All I got was a sarcastic "thank you". Not once was I apologized to. Which is just poor customer service. That was my experience. In my opinion it's a cattle call of an office run by an unorganized group of uncaring individuals. It's about how many people can be seen(or not seen in my case) all for the numbers. Now, Dr. Liu could be the best doctor for all I know. However, for me the front office is a reflection of the doctor(s) and if his front office staff acts in such away.... then that is not the place for me. I work hard to pay for my PPO so, I can choose what doctors I see and allow to work with me on my health. Not as privilege to be seen by them. On a side note that front office work area seemed very dirty with used tissues on the desk, cluster everywhere extra pair of shoes under the desk, random drinking containers. It's no wonder my appointment was lost. Seems like this office needs a bit of TLC, a good cleaning, a class on organization, and staff with better people skills. read more

I found Dr. Liu through Yelp in search of a dermatologist right before Christmas. He was what everyone said he was. Very attentive and sat down to discuss all my problems. He wrote several prescriptions for me, and even gave me some rebate cards to reduce my out-of-pocket payments at the pharmacy. Minus one (more like half) star because the front office receptionists were very short with me and not polite at all. Dr. Liu works out of a busy Cedars Sinai medical group, with multiple doctors on staff. Robin, who seems to work primarily with Dr. Liu, was super nice and helpful, however. I'm not sure if the other girls in front were Dr. Liu's staff or the medical center's staff. Either way, those girls were really Scroogy and need to stop being so bitter! read more

Dr. Liu has been my dermatologist for years and he has resolved many problems with my distressed skin. My issues are not cosmetic, but a result of sun damage. I never have to for a scheduled appointment, and feel that he listens to my concerns. He's understanding and when he has to cut (rather than freeze), the scars are scarcely visible. read more

Like with other reviewers, I have to agree that Dr. Liu seems to always have one foot out the door when it comes to appointments. I feel like I blink, and my appointment is over. I don't know...it's not my thing. He was kind and professional but I just couldn't help but feel like my appointments weren't thorough enough for MY liking. I think he is a knowledgable physician but I just can't help but feel like he isn't the one for me. It's funny...I have asked other dermatologists about starting botox and they would all tell me that I am way too young and do not need to modify my face in any way. When I asked Dr. Liu what he thought, it was a kind of "Yeah, you're a great candidate. We can do this many units here...." I mean, to each their own. I waited 25 minutes past my appointment time to be called back. I spoke to a medical assistant who was efficient and attentive. Dr. Liu showed up 15 minutes after the assistant took vitals. He was rushed and when I expressed concerns about a growth on my head he described it as being a symptom of my age. I also show him some varicosity on my leg and he was dismissive saying he had one too. Awesome. His over all exam was rushed but when I mentioned the possibility of surgery, that's when I really got his attention. He described in detail the procedure and how he had done several to bolster my confidence. $$$ changed his attitude from distracted to attentive. But it's Beverly Hills. I then asked for some treatment about dry scaling skin and he said his assistant would show up. 15 minutes later the assistant showed up. The front desk was not particularly friendly and when I saw 3 patients waltz by with not even a glance at the receptionist, I thought that obviously there was a pecking order here that probably was related to patient income. Overall, a distasteful rushed experience by a patronizing physician. read more

I just came back from a basal cell procedure at Dr. Liu. I was a little nervous because of all the trolls who post on Yelp. It was hands down, the easiest, most reasonable experience I have ever had. Dr Liu is extremely knowledgeable and made me feel totally comfortable through-out the quick and painless procedure. Rated best Dermatologist in Los Angeles and with that being said, he is obviously busy. He speaks very fast to where you can't understand his verbiage. The other downside is waiting for an appointment which is about three months tops. The more important issue at hand is how brilliant he is. Dr. Liu has cured bite marks that reappeared from an insect in Costa Rica. These scab like marks took nine months to fade. Definitely recommend him ! read more

Similarly, every time I've called Dr. Liu's office for an appointment, his phone staff have all been exceedingly polite and very helpful, and I've typically been scheduled to come into his office the next morning if the matter is legitimately urgent. On all other matters, I've never had to wait more than a few days to come into his office. Finally, Dr. Liu's entire medical support team, and particularly "Nellie" and "J.J.", are simply the Best. "Nellie" and "J.J." clearly enjoy what they do, their conduct and actions demonstrate they are highly experienced in the medical support they provide for Dr. Liu's patients, and both Nellie and J.J. have cheerfully made extra efforts on my behalf to make sure my requests are addressed, and I'm provided the best possible care. I have only been to a few dermatologists in my life but I couldn't be happier than with Dr. Liu. I feel that he is extremely professional straight to the point and Friendly as well. I had to have a few cysts removed on my face and I kept on pushing it off because I hate needles. After my former dermatologist of many years seemed more interested in taking my moles off and replacing them with inch-long scars, I recently went to Dr. Liu for a check-up, as he was recommended to me by a friend. Dr. Liu was very personable, professional and told me I was good to come back for another check up in a year or two. If your current doctor seems more interested in billing your insurance company to pay for his boat, beach house or alimony and seems to have no problem opting for surgeries that seem iffy, at the very least try Dr. Liu for a second opinion. He always explains the problem and solutions clearly which makes me feel much more comfortable. He does not rush through appointments like I've found other doctors do. I've been seeing Dr. Liu for a couple of years now and am on a quarterly screening schedule as he has removed two instances of basal cells, one from my arm and one from my forehead. Dr. Liu seems very relaxed and comfortable, and that makes me feel relaxed and comfortable. I have not had a long wait in his office as some others have described. Awesome experience. Dr visits are never fun, but this was actually great. From the time I walked in (as a new patient) until the time I was called back was maybe 5 minutes including paying the copay and waiting for my receipt. Then, maybe 1 minute until Dr. Liu came in. He answered all of my questions, hooked me up w/ some medications for my issues, and removed a mole that was bothering me. I was out the door maybe 10-15 minutes after my scheduled appt time and never felt rushed or blown off. Note to all Dr. offices, this is how things SHOULD work. I've had 3 visits over the past few weeks taking care of a variety of issues and overall I'd say it was a great experience, as far as doctors visits go. Dr. Liu was awesome, very nice and personable, supportive and efficient. The front office staff and nurses were also really great. The only thing that wasn't 5 stars was the decor, which was a little dated, but that's just aesthetic and not at all really important. I'm also not a fan of having to call the office and leave a message for someone to call you back to be able to reach anyone, but they do call back, so I guess it works out in the end. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Liu's for a few months now, after moving from New York to Los Angeles. Dr. Liu has been very responsive, interested in my care and person, and extremely knowledgable. In fact, when I had a situation that required a weekend visit to urgent care, he had his assistant call me to come in just to make sure my urgent care treatment had been good. Additionally, when I asked about cosmetic issues regarding my skin care, he smartly suggested we wait until I had been in LA for 6 months to see how the air and climate were affecting my skin. No expensive lotions, potions or rushed recommendations. When I mentioned a highly expensive skin care product I was interested in, he even suggested his favorite product in the line that was much more affordable. NOT a product he carries, so he had no stake in the matter. He removed a cyst and took extra care to make sure that the scar would heal and be minimally noticed. For both medical and cosmetic conditions, Dr. Liu is your guy. Not sure what the complainers are talking about--I've visited 3 times and never been treated with anything but expertise, patience, compassion and excellent care.
