Glad I didn't read the negative reviews first - I might have gone elsewhere and missed out. Anyhow, I ordered the eggs benedict, a coffee, and a bloody mary. The coffee was so-so, but the rest was delicious. My partner ordered French toast with strawberries, chocolate milk, and an orange juice. The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed and was perfectly pulpy. Nothing here was fancy, just a solid breakfast with friendly service. Prices are fair, we cleaned our plates, and left full & happy. The place we wanted to go was closed so we drove down the street a bit and we were going to another place but the line was way too long We drove some more and found Howies Restaurant in Wisconsin Dells WI We were both pleasantly surprised. With the national staffing shortage, Wisconsin Dells restaurants are also impacted. On a Tuesday at about 10:45a Denny's and Mr Pancake were closed. We stopped at 3 other places all had 30-60 minute wait times. Our party of 2 pressed and located Howie's. This appears to be a family run place. The service was friendly, the food came hot and fresh and both our breakfasts were delicious. Exactly what we needed. I would recommend this place!! Thank you! read more

My original breakfast plans fell through because my nav unit failed me but I always have a back up plan so I ended up here and probably for the better. As I sat there looking at the menu I heard every group get at least one biscuits and gravy so they know something I don't, see my pictures. The place isn't much to look at and looks like it's been around for a while. The staff was great and I ordered the biscuits and gravy with hash browns. The food came quick. The hash browns were crisp all the way through and not my style but good. The biscuits and gravy were killer. Were are talking thick gravy with plenty of crumbled sausage to the last bite and if I had privacy I would have licked the plate to be honest. They don't skimp on the gravy either because after the last piece of biscuit was done I was still forking up the gravy. Long time since I've been here. The staff was nice. I'm guessing Howie doesn't own it anymore. Do not waste your money coming here. Got orders wrong. Did not understand my wife's tea order of regular black tea. Biscuits with my gravy were hard. Coffee was OK. It's difficult to order when the staff looks at you like deer in the headlights. I don't know if this is a service contracted to run the place or a new family has taken it over. The rest if the place looks the same except for the big TV playing music videos. While on vacation, we like to find the locally owned restaurants instead of the chain restaurants. We found Howie's in Wisconsin Dells and had a very pleasant experience. Our waitress Barb was very friendly. The restaurant is very clean. We didn't have to wait long for our food, which was very good. They have homemade biscuits and make their own bread. We went here many years ago, however when we went here, our apple juice was formented. A 6 year old child ate this, our waitress said that she had a sip of it and said that she thought it was fine. If you have to taste a kids apple juice to make sure it is good, you should not serve it. Worst restaurant in the dells area, so not go here, I recommend you keep looking! read more

I was excited to try this place. It looked like the place where the locals go in a touristy area. But nothing was really good here. -The Denver Omelet had lunch meat for ham - I was going to send the biscuits and gravy back because I couldn't see the biscuits at all they were so small - the French toast was nothing to look it. - the portions were really small, overall When I go out to breakfast I expect to have too more food and larger portions, even if that means throwing in an orange slice for garnish. Cheap breakfast but the quality wasn't great. I ordered 2 pancakes + 1 egg + 1 hash brown for $4.99. The egg was cooked to perfection (I ordered it over-easy), the pancakes didn't taste well, I think the dough was not fresh, the hash brown turned to be 1/2 hash brown. I order a cup of fruits and they were canned and not nice. I don't know. I prefer to pay a bit more for better quality. read more

Would not return. Would not recommend. Waitress delivered our order at which point I notice the kids' orders didn't include toast. I asked if we could get an order of toast. Waitress got quite rude and said no they don't come with toast. Explained I understand that but can we order a side of toast? In the meantime I eat my toast; it is very lightly buttered on about an eighth of the slice. A one off maybe? Kids toast arrives and I notice it too isn't buttered well. Ask if we can get a side of butter for the toast. She gets very defensive and says no, no it is buttered. I say well it really isn't and can I get some butter. Simple enough request, shouldn't be a big deal. "No, no, I don't think we have any. I can check but I don't think we do." Are you f-ing kidding me? You are a breakfast restaurant. Howie's was a great alternative to Dennys in town. However, the last time I visited (October 2017) I was very disappointed. The food quality wasn't nearly as good, the portions were reduced, and the service was poor even though it wasn't very busy. Prior to this visit I would have given 4 or even 5 stars for good food at a great price and large portions on top of the small mom and pop appeal. read more

This was one of the best finds of our trip. This restaurant is definitely diner style, and had a little bit of old school charm. Our waitress was very kind and we had drinks and our order in in less than 5 minutes. I ordered the Western omelet with no onions. Yum! It was cheesy and packed full of veggies and sausage. The side of hash browns were crispy on the top and soft on the inside, which is exactly how I like them. Make it a point to stop here! You won't be disappointed! The boys and I needed some breakfast after a weekend of batchelor partying. As seems to be the case for others, we went to Howie's only after discovering there was a long wait at the other restaurants. The parking lot was nearly empty, and that should have been our "canary in the coal mine". As our friendly waiter walked us to our table, we past a woman in what appeared to be a night gown. She was seated at the closest table to the front door, slowly scooping "Great Value" brand jelly into individual plastic containers. This seemed to be the owner. Our waiter was..... attentive. He spent the majority of our meal within 5 feet of our table, so we were never left in want. He was very polite, but the brokenness of his spirit was obvious in his parting words to us: "It would be nice to leave." Our food came and was pretty mediocre. I ordered the "Country Breakfast" with ham. Hashbrowns were solid, eggs were cooked properly, the ham was a thin sponge soaked in ham water, and 4 pieces of toast to go with my 1/16th ounce cup of freshly scooped Walmart jam. It was $10 and tasted like a 3 dollar bill. Edible, but I wouldn't eat it again. My friends got the "Country Fried Chicken". They weren't impressed. As a family of four we ordered our fave breakfast item: biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash, chicken fried steak and chocolate chip pancakes. We were all very happy with our choices...made to order and delicious. Even though my chicken fried steak was actually chicken fried chicken, I was very happy with it, seasoned just right, crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside and my eggs over medium were made just perfectly. Stopped at Howie's due to the incredibly long wait at Mr. Pancake--will someone open up a Mrs. Pancake already? Anyhoo, the service was excellent (coffee filled up 2+) and the food was great. Just what we needed before hitting the road. I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy w/ hash browns and added two eggs. I asked for the hash browns on a separate plate from the biscuits and gravy (don't want gravy on my browns) and the two eggs over medium placed on top of the biscuits. Then I ordered a side of bacon. Some might gasp at that order and call it a prick move, but I think the waitress appreciated my enthusiasm and creativeness. And guess what? The order came out perfect and just as I asked. I love this little restaurant. Great prices and you avoid the over crowding you get at Paul Bunyan's. The staff is very friendly. I hadn't been here in quite sometime as I had forgotten where it was. I had the steak and eggs and it was fantastic. Hashbown cooked to perfection and didn't have to asked for them cooked crispy. The steak was tender, juicy and flavorful. Ordered the Texas French toast and it was terrible the bacon was really thin and crumbled when you picked it up! My kids chocolate pancake was the best thing. My wife's egg wasn't bad. The coffee was watered down normally I put to sugars in mine and I didn't need any at this place. The plates were cheap plastic and the silverware was really old and used. We won't be back. We arrived and it was a little busy. After 15 min waiting we were seated, no problem. Then we sat and sat and sat, we were offered coffee refills no less than 6 times and waited for our food. Our waitress was courteous and efficient. Don't know her name, she has short blonde hair, very nice blue eyes and is a musician who plays various instruments. I found this out when she informed us that she was finishing her shift and Casey, would take over our table. We then sat more, noticed other patrons who came after us were already served. Noticing this we asked for the food and was informed that it wasn't even on the grill. Their solution with no apologies offered, was we'll take care of your drinks. MInd you this was for simple breakfast. Basically we were offered to leave as the solution. Agree with another reviewer who said the service was good but the food was not. The pancakes come with syrup. I asked whether it was real maple syrup and was told that it was. It tasted and smelled like the high fructose corn syrup. Disappointed. I won't go there again. read more

After a busy weekend at a local Dell's Resort we found Howie's Restaurant on Yelp. It was quiet, very few people there around 12:00pm. The kids enjoyed smiley-faced pancakes that were cute and tasty. The adults had corn-beef hash and biscuits and gravy. The corn-beef hash was very good and the biscuits were awesome. Gravy was a little thick but flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive. We have never been so well taken care of for breakfast! The best part? They have a meat market attached to the restaurant! I'm not a huge steak and eggs person simply because you usually get a cheap nasty cut. This was better than some steaks I've been served for dinner!! I didn't have to cut anything off, ever bite more delicious and tender than the next. This is not a touristy place, legit home cooked food. Very very clean-another hard to find quality for a breakfast joint. You will not be disappointed, there are not many iced the top choices in the Dells that care about the quality of their service and food far more than their profit! Went here yesterday for breakfast and it was actually pretty good! The place was clean, not busy (which I prefer so I don't have to wait), the staff was friendly, and the food was yummy. Unbelievable. I paid $3.00 for a 6 oz. cup of apple juice and the waitress didn't even let us know. We received the bill and we had to pay $52.73 and $18.00 was apple juice for 3 kids. BUT now the prices are just plain high and they charge u for anything extra u may want ;(like onions in hash browns,)etc and if u want to substitute the French-toast for a pancake or vice verse they will charge u!!
