This place hasn't changed a bit since the last time I was here, probably 10 years ago. They serve breakfast and lunch only, but stop serving breakfast at 11 am, so if you come in at noon don't think about getting biscuits and gravy! The have hot dogs, polish sausage, and hot links with a condiment bar that rocks! Lots of different mustards and hot sauces alongside kraut, relish, onions, etc. burgers and sandwiches are also available; but don't try to order fries... you can get salads or chips for your sides. The staff are friendly and get your food to you quickly. The decor is right on target for the theme - howling dog! Stopped in for an early breakfast recently one morning, this cool eatery has walk up counter service and a friendly staff. Place your order, pay, take a number, they bring you your food when its ready. A casual dog friendly cafe, its obvious of the love for canines this establishment has, as the walls are literally covered with images of dogs from locals and all over the place. Ordered a great cup of java, seriously a great cup of coffee. Along with a full order of buscuits and gravy and a couple over medium eggs. Served on paper plates and with plastic wear. Seems a bit out of touch with the cost of single service over reuseable tablewear in a restaurant but whatever? The eggs were cooked to order and good, the biscuits also good sized, texture and portion - the gravy however was very runny and weak. It was okay but nothing special and again the gravy was really weak. There may be better options? It may have been an off morning but I can only go by what was presented and served. Cute little café, nestled between other buildings by the only stop light in Lakeport. Dog friendly, with dog decor throughout the establishment. This is a breakfast, lunch place who also have delicious smoothies (I recommend the Pineapple smoothie with orange juice). The prices are far. The service maybe a bit slow, but that's only because this place is popular. They do get busy, so calling in an order is strongly suggested if on a time crunch. read more

Visited this cute place for the 2nd time today. First time I visited with my fiancé we both had a chili cheese dog, the chili was fantastic! Mid-meal I noticed they had a soup of the day and said something about it to my fiancé. 5 minutes later the owner brought me a sample of the soup saying, "I over heard you, here's a sample, let me know what you think." It was delicious! Great customer service. Today my fiancé got a cheeseburger. The juices were dripping out and it was so delicious. I had the broccoli cheddar soup (A-maxing) and grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was basic and delicious (my tummy was not happy today so I chose the grilled cheese for that reason). So happy with Howling Dog. We will be back. read more

What a wonderful hidden gem. Great service. Great food. Hefty portions. And reasonably priced. My youngest son raved about the pancakes. Says it was the best ever. Working up throughout northern California during coronavirus shutdown. Met up with my crews at the morning tail board, got things worked out and left trying to find some eggs at 0800 hrs. I came into town late the night before for this meeting and my first time in Lakeport. An internet search for breakfast and that's how I found Howling Dog Cafe, with a name like this, I had to check it out. With everything shutdown or limited to take-out only, it was worth looking for it. Easy to find and the owner (Denise I believe) whipped me up a breakfast sandwich and made interesting conversation while I creamed and sweetened my coffee traveler. I'll be returning to Lakeport a couple times a month for work and meals at Howling Dog Cafe. Check it out if your in that area! read more

I noticed this place on Yelp as I'm visiting from out of town. It had great reviews so why not, right? Off we go; 11:04am- walked in and grabbed a menu. 11:05am- went to cashier to request the eggs and sausage plate, and she stated they stop serving breakfast at 11am...seriously? I was 5 minutes past....what no grace period, eggs won't cook past 11? Whatever. So I reluctantly ordered a Turkey Club Sandwich. 11:15am- received the sandwich that looked pretty good, but ended up tasting no so good and extremely dry. 11:19am- after just 4 bites and overheating the girl who works there talking to someone else dropping "F" Bombs and "S" Bombs throughout her conversation (loud enough for me to hear from the other room....that's pretty tacky, I simply threw the rest of the sandwich away and walked out miserable. I had been a frequent customer until covid hit. Went in a few times after thinking surely the owner would enforce wearing masks by her, her staff and customers. NOPE! I asked the owner and she said covid is a big lie. They have been asked by the city to enforce masks but she still refuses. I took my grandson on vacation to Clear Lake, from Southern California in June. We drove around looking for restaurants and came across the Howling Dog. I would have passed it up if it had not been for the sign on the street. So we drive behind the first row of business's and found the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly. The food was good, and we LOVED all the photos of the dogs on the walls. Cute place to visit and eat if you are in the area.
