I had a wonderful experience with David L and Tammy at this new restaurant located on John Hawkins Parkway. The restaurant and concept are new to Hoover, but according to their website they have locations in Duluith, GA, Norfolk, VA, and Pensacola, FL. Based on the dining room/restaurant layout, food menu, and organization it is clear this is not their first rodeo. Here are some specific things that impressed me. 1. Ordering bbq and hot pot items is really simple and efficient. You use your phone to scan a QR code at your table. It loads a menu with your table's identifier. You simply submit you orders from the phone and staff shows up with your items. 2. The number and variety of items are incredible. There are too many items to try in just one visit. The quality and freshness of the meats, seafood, and vegetables that we tried were all excellent. 3. I really liked the condiment station. It has all the sauces, spices, and herbs for you to build your own dipping sauces. Also, I loved the Kim Chee and Seaweed salad at the bar; both were very tasty. 4. Finally, I like the way the center grill and individual burners are set up on our table. Your hot pot is designed for cooking. It is slightly off center so you can move cooked items/broth into another bowl for eating. I look forward to coming back soon.

Another fun and tasty experience. The service was great. Lots of different meat and veggie options. I did the hot pot and Korean BBQ and I don't regret the choice. However I am pretty sure I didn't eat $40 worth of food. A bit pricey to me but still fun.

I am back.....as promised! After months of waiting for this place to open, I finally got to check it out tonight! So much information to share, so I will jump right in. Atmosphere - nice! Spacious seatings with comfortably padded chairs. I like their big lit HQ signs throughout the restaurant, actually looks pretty good. I was also impressed by their bravery to pick cream colored seats! Leg room is on the tighter side, didn't bother me though as I don't need much room. To order, you scan a QR code on the table with your phone and order from the menu that pulls up. You can order up to 10 items at a time. Then 10 minutes later, you can order up to 10 more. So on and so forth. I do like ordering from the phone better than ordering from the server as it does prevent errors. I am hoping they add pictures to all of the menu options in the future. A visual would really help with the ordering process. The items you order on the phone are brought out to you by runners from the kitchen who speak no English at all, but all very smiley. If you are getting hot pot, you would actually order your soup base at the beginning with the server before ordering the rest of your selections on the phone. You also order drinks directly from the server. Currently, they just have soft drinks and tea, no boba drinks. The server did say boba drinks are coming though. Max 2 hours to dine. It always makes me a little nervous to have a time limit when I eat, but honestly I never actually make it to 2 hours at these places, ha! So here comes a tip for you. When you get your hot pot and the heat plate errors out instead of turning on? It's not the heat plate's problem. It's the pot. Something is wrong with the pot. Get a new pot and the heat plate will work just fine. There you go, I just saved you 30 minutes.....which is how long it took for me to get the issue resolved and start eating. Apparently it's a known issue to management that hasn't been shared with the servers yet. So we switched three tables, tried to fix the heat plate cables, etc. before she (the server) finally asked the manager who immediately told her the problem is the pot. Moving to the sauce bar and the self-serve appetizers. The sauce bar has all the necessary and expected components to make a great sauce for hot pot. I didn't eat the appetizers even though they looked fine. I simply decided they weren't worth my stomach space. I did partake in the fruit at the end though and they were very good. Now, on to the most important part, the food. First, just let me say that if you like seafood, I believe there are a bit more selections available here than the other BBQ/hot pot place in town. I, unfortunately, cannot provide you with any feedback on the seafood as I don't eat seafood other than fish. I did get fish and I thought it was a bit too fishy. My favorite hot pot soup base at these places is tomato and spicy combined. For some reason, while it seems easy to give me a pot with both mixed, I haven't been able to convince anyone to do that yet. What they will do (though not their preference, ha) is give me two separate pots - one tomato and one spicy. I then combine the two myself. Works for me! They do the meat for hot pot beautifully here. Very thinly sliced, just as they should be. The presentation is also beautiful. There is a good selection of vegetables including Napa cabbage, watercress, and tong ho. Tong ho was looking a little sad (some dark and wilted), but I will cut them some slack there as I know tong ho is hard to keep. While the broth flavor is a little light for me, I was happy with their hot pot overall. Last, but not the least, the Korean BBQ. Again, a good selection of meat and seafood here. I will confess that my eyes are bigger than my stomach and as much as I wanted to eat both hot pot and BBQ, I really was already pretty full by the time I got to the BBQ. I only ordered 4 items off of the BBQ menu - spicy beef, spicy fish, onions, and potato. The onions turned out to be red onions, so that was a first for me at Korean BBQ and I didn't end up eating them. The other three items all tasted a bit sour after I grilled them. I am not sure why and I didn't try to figure it out since I was already full anyway. I think I need to come back again to give the Korean BBQ a fair chance. Overall, I had a good first experience. The server was very nice. She was really busy but luckily I didn't need much attention (after we figured out the pot issue anyway). If I needed something, I just flagged her down. Hopefully they will have more servers to help out as they get busier. My 5-star rating takes into consideration that they just opened. While there are definitely kinks that need to be worked out, that's to be expected of any new restaurants. I truly hope they succeed, love the diversity Birmingham is starting to offer!!

Bone broth soup with shaved beef and lots of sides. Sushi from the bar was also great!

This was such a great experience. We had girls night here and it was so great. Between catching up, cooking, eating and experiencing something new to some of us it was a great time and didn't even notice how much time had passed. We all had both hot pot and BBQ. It was a lot of food and I do recommend if you don't eat a whole ton to choose one or the other.

We have gone several times, and as a Korean household, this is where we recommend people to go. Their quality of meat and veggies is better than anywhere else in Birmingham. We go to the one in ATL, and was excited to see them in Hoover. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service is great, and the place is nice and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are very busy, and I wish they were a little more Korean and had a button to push for service...but all in all...great place![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

To quote fellow Yelper, Paul C, for years we complained about not having a hot pot place. Now we have two! The first is literally less than 2 miles and 5 minutes away at the Galleria called Stone Age III. HQ is right off 150, next door to IHOP and across from Super Walmart. I don't remember what it used to be. I want to say a Longhorn Steak but I'm not positive. There's ample parking especially behind the building in the shared shopping center parking lot. There is no outdoor seating which makes sense because tables require the hot pot and grill burners. Only about 3 weeks old, I expected the place to be clean and I wasn't wrong. It is immaculate, beautiful with everything shiny and new. The decor was unimpressive, but not the size and layout. SA definitely wins out for having large lcd screens everywhere, but HQ was much spacious and with better privacy since there were more "booths" and rooms as opposed to a wider open concept at SA. BQ is pretty self explanatory when you figure out that the large circular hot plate sunken in the table is heated by a gas burner underneath. This is where you will cook your food. Well, you can always just sit back and don't participate and have someone else in your party cook for you, but you'd be missing out on the experience. What can you cook on the grill? Here's a short list: sliced beef belly, beef bulgogi, mignon filet tips, marinated angus short rib, prime boneless rib finger, garlic pork belly, spicy chicken, pork cheek, ribeye steak, etc. The seafood that you can grill include: mussels, spicy fish fillet, garlic shrimp, octopus, calamari, scallops and oysters. There was so much to eat we didn't even get to try any chicken or pork. My favorites were the beef bulgogi, short rib, fish fillet, shrimp and calamari. The meats were fresh, seasoned nicely and cut thin when needed for you to grill to your liking. Yes this can cause a lot of "smoke" with everyone grilling, but with their excellent vent system, the only thing you'll hear is the loud conversations from other parties enjoying themselves. What is hotpot? It's more of an experience and originates from asian communal dining where dishes are shared. But here, you get your own "hotpot" which is a small pot that holds your choice of soup broth. It sits on top of an induction burner that is flush to the table. Underneath the edge of the table is small connected control pad that turns your burner on/of and controls the temperature. Your choice of broths include: mushroom, bone broth, tom yum, szechuan spicy, miso, herbal or tomato. After you bring your broth to a boil, you can cook whatever your hearts' desire and your stomach can fit. Don't worry, if you get low on broth, your server will gladly come and fill it back up. The best part is at the end of the evening, your broth will have been flavored and seasoned even more with all the ingredients you have been boiling. Then throw in some ramen, glass noodles or udon noodles... Yom Yom Yom Yom! So what can you cook in the broth? Here is another short list: Sliced meats: prime lamb, beef belly, pork belly, prime beef, tongues. Meat/sides: crab stick, fish cakes, quail eggs, fish tempura, mini sausages, spam, fish ball, beef meatballs, lobster meatballs, shumai, shredded beef tripe. Seafood: mussels, squid, fish, shrimp, blue crab, snow drab, clams, scallop, oyster. Veggies: tofu, bamboo shoots, shitake mushrooms, chinese doughnut, broccoli, spinach, corn, daikon, lettuce, sweet potato, taro, bok choy, lotus root, napa cabbage, etc. Tammy and Paul chose the Tom Yum broth. I decided to try the Szechuan spicy and yes it had a nice kick. At the end of our meal with what little room I had left, I put some udon noodles in the broth and it was delicious! Yom Yom Yom Yom. Some of my favorites for the hot pot were napa cabbage, bok choy, head on shrimp, scallops, mussels, blue crab, and fishballs. Like SA, there is also a seasoning "bar" where you can use a variety of sauces to create your own personal dipping sauce. Right next to it is a small dessert bar. They had canned longan that SA did not have! It's all you can eat like SA and you can also choose bbq or hot pot or both. Here is the biggest difference. At HQ, you scan a specialized QR code specific to your table. On your phone it takes your browser to an ordering page specific to your table. You select 10 items at a time, proceed to "checkout" and in less than 5 minutes, someone brings a cart with all the food you requested. Then 10 minutes later, you can go back to your phone and order 10 more items and that's for each person. In other words, if you wanted to you could have food coming all the time. But beware, you don't want to order more than you can eat. Our server was very good. She kept our drinks filled and our broth topped off. She checked on us frequently and other workers cleared our tables often. At the end, we were stuffed and happy. Try them!

This is the worst time I have ever had here. The food is still good but the service blowed. My husband had a empty glass , our broth didn't get refilled until I told the manager, We didn't get all the food we ordered, our waitress disappeared, and they were out of some of the items on the menu. Dang I want this place to succeed but honestly the computer system blows(We were told by the manager the mobile to the order system doesn't work well) We were told we had to pay for dinner even though it wasn't 4 yet. (Or we had to pay before 4 . We got there at 3. Umm pretty sure We were not even close to our food time. So instead of rushing We said We would get supper . Then they went snail slow and didn't give me the pork belly I ordered , taro and a few different veggies. They dont tell you most of the time they are out . They just don't give it to you. No explanation. I had to find the manager to get the pork belly and told him to refill our broth. He just poured some water in. Wth! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Half of the stoves dont work. I saw someone working on one in another area . Even ours we had to move close to the wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Personally as We were the first customers since opening the stoves came to him defective. Alabama doesn't have a good selection of hot pot places and honestly with the selection of seafood/meats it's a good deal ! BUT sometimes it's damn aggravating when they are out or you dont get what you ordered. The manager is not a novice. He has at least one restaurant or had one in Orlando. So why is it ran the way it is? The kitchen is straight up in shambles. Most of this is because number 1. They don't speak english 2. The mobile to order system doesnt work properly 3. They dont make sure that they have all the ingred on the menu. Me and my husband have been going here since their opening. We see how it's been ran and the issues. There are many. The food is good no doubt but for this place to succeed it needs to b ran better. Tighten up the kitchen staff, make sure you have all the ingred. On the menu, Don't leave customers without a waitress to refill glasses , make sure the orders are right/ arrived , etc. There is a reason he is giving 25% off . Unfortunately as much as I like the food if he doesnt wise up it will go under. If it was my first time I would never b back. As it is I will try at least one more time knowing it was close to supper time and it seems it threw them in chaos. Here's the thing you only get so many chances and others might not have the patience to give. I really want him to succeed but it needs to b ran better point blank .

The staff were all so so nice and constantly checked on us. And answered all of our questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with our friends and the food tasted amazing. I was really curious to try the only Korean Hot Pot restaurant here in the Hoover/Birmingham area…read more It was alright; I think because I've had so many really good hot pot experiences growing up, I held my expectations here a bit steady. But I think it's great that they have a place like this here. So, the menu is limited, but it is great for a novice hot pot customer because they won't be overwhelmed. There is only one type of noodles you can get (glass noodles), and only a few selections of red meat and vegetables. But hey, I won't complain, because you can't get it elsewhere. The meat I received were super fatty. There were some when the fat was around 80% of the meat itself. Veggies were good! They have a bar of sauces and other foods you can get and add to your hot pot. Broth was fine, it wasn't anything particular to rave about. The service was great - people were so friendly and nice. They tended to us pretty well. The ambience was really cool! They have screens around the restaurant that play K-pop music videos, which was a super cool touch. 5/5 for the ambience.

The moment I walked into Seoul Restaurant, I knew I was in for something special. Grandma was relaxing in her recliner watching TV in the dining room, the husband was taking care of the front of the house, the wife was hard at work in the kitchen, and the entire place had the kind of warmth and charm you simply can't manufacture. The service? Let's just say he wasn't there to become my new best friend. He was polite, efficient, and all business. When I asked if I could add cheese to my Army Stew, he immediately answered, "No cheese." From the kitchen, his wife overheard the conversation, called him back, and a minute later he returned with two slices of American cheese anyway. She knew exactly what I was after. It was one of those little moments that made the place feel even more authentic. The homemade banchan was outstanding. Every dish tasted fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and like recipes that have been made the same way for years. We ordered a pajeon, but asked if they could make it with only scallions instead of seafood. Without hesitation, they did--and it ended up being my favorite style of pajeon. Crispy around the edges, tender in the center, and absolutely packed with scallions. Then came the star of the meal: Budae Jjigae (Army Stew). I'd honestly never seen it on a Korean restaurant menu before, so ordering it was an easy decision. The pot was massive, filled with Spam, sausage, beef, ramen, mushrooms, vegetables, tofu, and bubbling spicy broth. It was comforting, hearty, and somehow even better after everything had simmered together. There was so much food that we had leftovers for days, and somehow it tasted even better the next day. What I appreciated most was that nothing about Seoul Restaurant felt trendy or manufactured. The menu focused on comforting Korean classics, the portions were incredibly generous, the prices were more than fair, and every bite felt like it came from a family recipe rather than a corporate kitchen. If you're looking for polished, over-the-top hospitality, this probably isn't your place. But if you want to feel like you've wandered into someone's home, where Grandma is watching TV, the husband is running the dining room, the wife is cooking from the heart, and every dish tastes like it's been perfected over decades... Seoul Restaurant is exactly where you want to be. We'll absolutely be making this a stop every time we're back in Alabama.

When we walked in on yesterday evening, we were immediately greeted and told that we could seat ourselves and we would be helped shortly. A woman came by our table with menus and told us about what we could order from the bar. I was completely sold when she told me she had an alcoholic drink that included Boba, which was called Boba on the Beach. It was really good. We looked over the menu which had a nice variety of Asian fusion type dishes. We placed our order and it didn't take too long for us to get our food. Everything was flavorful. The service was good so I'm sure we'll be back to this restaurant soon.

From first look this place looks pretty cool from the outside to the inside. The pictures and painted walls were esthetically pleasing. I could see many people taking photos all around that place. Even the bathroom had a cool Panda picture on it. We were also informed by staff that there is a lot more to be done there. Of course we ordered tons of food but I will only be speaking on what I ate there. Let's start with the Korean Corndogs. I got one regular and the other one covered in blue Takis. The regular one was good, hot, and crunchy. They don't really look like traditional Korean Corndogs so visually they don't look good at all I would definitely recommend them do it the traditional way if possible. However the way they stack it is great. How most K-Dogs are done you have the cheese at the top and the hotdog at the bottom. Here they do cheese meat cheese meat like a kabob and to me that's how all K-dogs should be. I definitely preferred the original one over the Taki one. The OG gets an 8/10 and the Taki one a 7/10. The scores would be higher for both but I knocked a point for the presentation and the Taki one didn't taste like Taki at all and in my opinion I would have used hot cheetos instead. I also tried the Korean Fried Chicken nuggets and those were really good. The flavor was there and so was the crunch and that juicy chicken. Highly recommend these (they also have regular KFC drumstix/legs). 8.5/10 Next up the Bulgogi Bao. The buns were super soft like pillows which was a great start. The meat itself was good but could have been just a bit more tender. When you eat bulgogi beef it should nearly melt in your mouth. With that said whatever the sauce that was used was a bit salty but not inedible. I also would have preferred a cold slaw in there besides lettuce to help cut the salt with the sauce. That sweetness of the slaw would have made a huge difference. 6.8/10 Everything else that was ordered according to my friends was well received and we all left with empty plates and only 1 Togo box. Final thoughts: I will definitely come back here to eat again no question. I would love to see takoyaki added to the menu as well as some street food dessert items I could name a few. But this place was great. The staff was awesome and took time out to speak with us and gave great back story about the restaurant as well as some great recommendations. The drink menu is awesome to with lots to choose from, from milk tea all the way to alcohol. Service alone was 10/10 great staff. Decor was 9.5/10. If you have not been here yet please go check this place out. I'm already ready to go back!

I absolutely love this friendly fast-casual eatery! We wanted a quick and healthy dinner when in…read morethe area recently. I peeked in and thought it looked so pretty. And of course they had me at poke bowls. It's one of my top 5 things to eat, honestly. But I ordered a Buddha bowl because it's almost the same thing and I felt a little lazy to DIY (not to mention, the Buddha bowl looked tantalizing!) They have other veg options, but I set my sights on that bowl as soon as the friendly counter guy suggested it. It's overloaded with goodness--avocado, deliciously marinated tofu, edamame (yes, it's a protein-rich bowl), tomatoes, shredded carrots, diced cucumbers, greens and more. You're literally devouring the rainbow here, friends. For drinks, they have a modest but decent selection of beer, wine (a decent bubbly in a can!) and sake in addition to soft drinks. The place is so beautiful (and spotlessly clean) with plants dangling from the ceiling and beautiful murals throughout. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be here all the time.

Buffets...a special kind of place where all shame gets left out the door only to be stuffed like a…read moreThanksgiving turkey until the body is ready to burst. With all the trash talk about them, much of the world has a special affinity for these establishments nonetheless, whether it's a grand Las Vegas buffet brunch, an extravagant all you can eat feast in Dubai or a place like the King Buffet in Pelham, a countryside low cost, high volume spot to feed the masses of the blue collar class. King Buffet opened in 2023 in a space formerly occupied by Golden Corral. It's pleasantly renovated and as clean as an establishment can be for a buffet concept. There are all the classics here and a few nice extras, like crab. The seafood at King Buffet is plentiful, but to be fair, not particularly good. The crawfish are somehow extremely tasteless, not because they are not spiced, but they just don't taste like crawfish. That's something I've never encountered before. The coconut shrimp is subpar. Mongolian beef is very loosely reminiscent of beef. With that said, all the dishes are not bad either, they are just not great. Where King Buffet shines is the service, with extremely attentive wait staff and superb cleanliness that results from that. As a whole, it does justice to this category of food and there is absolutely no reason to pass by if craving a buffet style meal.
