Faster than Fast. 5 years ago, I had had the opportunity to acquire a Rolex that was a pretty tough one to get at the time. As years went on, I found myself wearing it less and less. Rather than letting it collect dust, I decided it was someone else's turn to enjoy it. I was getting ready to take a trip down to LA to bring the watch to a large scale watch buyer. Serendipitously, the day before I was to leave for LA, I was told that the store was closed Saturdays. I say serendipitously because as a result of getting that email, I ended up remembering that I had visited a shop years before (HQ Milton) that had been a pleasure to visit run by a guy (Jacek) who was a pleasure to chat with. I ended up reaching out to him again with details of the watch that I was considering selling. He gave me a price and we set up a time to visit. Prior to this, I had read some reviews about OTHER watch buying stores that lured you with a good price only to bait & switch upon arrival. Preparing for a switch of the price and having to potentially settle for less, I was surprised when Jacek took a look at the watch and offered the exact same amount that he had quoted me over email. Wonderful experience with Jacek. I'm new into the watch world, but got bitten by this bug. Many shops that sell watches have an air of arrogance/pretension. I recently sold my Rolex 14060 to HQ Milton. The transaction was simply amazing. I sent them a photo of the watch along with the ID card. They sent me an estimate and i made an appointment to drop in the store for two days later. However, when I recently inquired to see if I could apply the trade in value of a watch (3 years later) toward an upgrade to a more expensive watch, there was no appetite to even engage. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for HQ Milton. I was winding my watch this morning and it hit me that I should've taken 5 minutes to provide my feedback. The experience here was incredible. Some time ago I finally decided to pull the trigger on a vintage Omega Speedmaster. One of my close friends from LA told me all about his experience buying he and his wife Rolexes from Jacek and his team, so I knew this was a trustworthy place to go. My wife set up an appointment (she wanted the watch to be a gift from her), and we had an absolute blast spending an evening at HQ. We spent time with Kazu trying on different watches, and finally found the exact one I wanted. I knew I wanted it to be vintage, well cared for, and with a sapphire back to see the movement. Kazu had the exact one there, with papers, with a story of it being purchased in Paris in 1992. To date, this is still my favorite gift. The problem now is that I am CONSTANTLY on their site bookmarking the next two watches I want, itching to get back and see Kazu and Jacek again. If we hadn't purchased our dream home this last year (with millions of remodeling needs), I'd be back there in a heartbeat with a few more watches in my collection. However, there is no doubt I'll be back, it's just a matter of time. I wanted to get my dad a Rolex watch for Christmas. I did my search and went to couple of different places. Checked out the Rolex retail store on market st, looked at some websites, checked out ebay, etc. At the end of the day, I found my dad's Rolex watch at HQ Milton. Checked out their website and called to see how much more inventory they have. Scott, who answered the phone was super friendly, said I would have to make an appointment to come in and see the watches. So I made my appointment, with my busy schedule... I wasn't too thrilled, and went to the store. As I walked down mission st, I started to wonder how legit could this place be? On Mission St? I thought about calling to cancel my appointment, but since i was already here, decided to go in. H.Q. Hilton is not a store you walk in and buy something. I found out it's more of an office in a building with locks and security cameras and alarms. It was a reassurance. I also realized the reason they asked me to make an appointment is because they want to give me the full attention. Inventory on the website did not do any justice. Scott wasn't around, so I met with Jacek (pronounced Yak-sik). He was super informative and started going into history of Rolex and how much each watch costs and why. I had no idea how complex Rolex was. I didn't buy anything on my first visit. Jacek was not pushy at all and wanted me to take my time. He was very understanding and didn't treat me like every retail store. It's not a cup of coffee I'm buying. I mean I've gone into LV stores where I felt pressure to buy for looking at a $3,000 bag. Top-shelf experience all around. Although H.Q. Milton's best known for Rolexes, ever since I read Ben Clymer's Hodinkee post mentioning the handful of cal. 321 Omega Speedmasters he also saw on his visit, I'd been perusing their website almost daily for several months to see their newest Moonwatch offerings and to (hopefully) catch a 3572.50 with the Hesalite crystal and a display back. While it's not exactly vintage, the model's discontinued, and rather than take my chances on Ebay I wanted to buy it from a reputable shop. So, what better excuse to finally swing by than when I saw just the watch I was looking for on their website. I called on a Wednesday early afternoon to see how I might go about purchasing the watch -- I couldn't get up to San Francisco until the following week, and Kazu let me know that, unfortunately, they wouldn't be able to hold the watch: Either I'd have to buy it over the phone or else too bad. I told him I'd think about and called him back later to let him know that I could potentially race up to the city just before 5 PM to make the purchase in person. Despite being on such short notice, Kazu accommodated my request very kindly and professionally, and when I arrived at the shop I was greeted by him as well as Jacek himself. They and the rest of the staff were all terrific -- casual but professional, clearly very knowledgeable, with zero sales-y-ness and no frills.
