This review is long overdue. Such a bittersweet review for me... I inherited my late mom's beautiful Vacheron gold watch from the 1970's that was no longer working and missing a part. I did extensive research and decided on Seregin's and I'm so happy that I did. Not only were they friendly/kind and super professional, but this watch, being a relic, and extremely thin and intricate, at this point, was a hard one to fix. Paul, the owner, went above and beyond, connecting with his own network to find the parts that were no longer for sale publicly. He called me multiple times to confirm the heftier price tag that parts and service would cost and when the timeline would be extended. When I came in to pick up the final product and he listened to my story of my beautiful mother and the watch, he truly had compassion and added to the story of this watch. This wasn't a faceless transaction and for something like an inherited treasure, that truly meant something to me. Came in for a bracelet adjustment and to check the time keeping on my Seiko. Bracelet fix was fast and cheap. He tested the watch and it is losing too much time. He suggested sending it in under warranty myself else it's a lot of money to fully service the watch there. I appreciate the frank honesty. These people really care! Peter has tinkered with a watch my Father gave me 40 years ago, not valuable but very sentimental, it's still running timely and looking sharp. I have a 2001 Omega Seamaster as a daily watch. Over the years it's been pretty beat-up and neglected. So finally it stopped keeping time. I took it in to Paul for a looksee. He opened her up and gave me a great estimate of a $450 for overhaul and necessary repiars. I got a call about a week later from Paul letting me know the status and it wasn't ptetty. The internal mechanism wasn't holding power (automatic). I was expecting some up charges but nope I went in and picked up my watch yesterday. It was $450 as promised and it works wonderfully with a nice polish job. Looking good. Far better alternative than sending it away for factory maintenance and about 2/3 the cost. I got a Burberry watch for Christmas at Nordstrom. I went to the one at San Francisco Centre to get it resized. The saleswoman could not do it herself and rather than risk damage, she sent me to someone who specializes in watches and Nordstrom fit the bill for it too. Seregin's is located about two blocks from the mall. It is located right next to the Hertz door inside a building with other little shops. I walked in on a Sunday (a day when they are usually closed), but they were open because of the holidays. It took no longer than ten minutes and I was out of there. You could tell that the man who did it took pride in his craft. He was also very nice and helpful. Nordstrom sends their customers here for their watches. I came to see Paul through a referral on 8/31. I have a 80's Heuer watch that stopped working (it would only work intermittently) for over six months. Before I met Paul I began to lose hope of ever being able to restore this watch. I left the watch with a different watch smith for over a month and he claimed that the circuit was no longer functional and that I would need to replace the movement. I got a second opinion with similar results. I then contacted Tag Heuer corporate office in Switzerland and was informed that my watch was too old and that they would not be able to repair it due to lack of parts. After leaving the watch with Paul for a couple of days I received a very promising call from him. Through our conversation I could feel his passion and expertise for what he does. He mentioned that he was able to get the watch working and would monitor it for a few more days. Once he felt comfortable with his repairs he notified me that it was ready for pickup. I was grinning from ear to ear when I picked up my vintage Heuer. Overall, Paul and his staff has meet and exceeded my expectations. He's incredibly pleasant and personable, you can feel his energy and passion. The staff was friendly and attentive. Greeting me each time with a smile. I scored a super-sweet deal on eBay for a Cartier watch but I'm no fool..... Thanks to the eBay Buyer Protection Policy, I would get my money back if the watch was a fake......which meant I needed someone to authenticate my watch And you can forget about Cartier lifting a finger to help you out. I find it extremely odd that for a business that has been around since 1847, they have no interest in protecting their reputation & absolutely refuse to authenticate anything Last time I tried taking something over to Cartier for authentication, they referred me to Sothebys.....really! I mean, even if they charged an authentication fee, it would be a great revenue stream for them.....again, in business since 1847. You'd think there *might* be a few "genuine" pieces that have stood the test of time but have found new homes & those homes would like to verify whether they're truly Cartier..... however, there is zero interest.....okay, off soapbox! Good thing Swiss Baume / Seregin's is around b/c they DO happen to offer authentication services for Cartier watches! Cost was $40 & they took my watch right away while I was there - verifying everything from the bracelet, the screws, the case, the dial, the internal mechanics / movement.....this was a very thorough examination And with 35 years of expertise, they know all the ins & outs & what constitutes genuine articles over fakes Final verdict? My watch was the real deal - score on that & double score on finding Swiss Baume / Seregin's And if that weren't great enough, they also have a wonderful selection of watches as well as vintage jewelry - I saw a particular enamel frog ring that I totally want to go back & check out! My best friend bought me a Rolex for my birthday from him and the rest is history....other Rolex dealers take 4-6 weeks to do work on watches while paul can do it the same day. Back in 2001, I went here to have a crystal replaced on a vintage pocket watch on the advice of an antique store owner. When I went to bring my watch in, the associate at first was welcoming, but became rude and condescending once I told him I just wanted a new (plastic) crystal and did not want the watch movement cleaned (It needed servicing, but I did not want to spend the money for it at the time), and suppressed the urge to storm out and take my business elsewhere as I did not know any other jeweler that could do this. I was informed that it should be ready in a week and a half. I called to check the status at that time. It was still not ready. I think it was an extra day (I had to call again) and got it back. Later that day I noticed that the bezel was screwed back on crookedly and was jammed. I didn't bother to take it back as it wasn't the most expensive watch because I didn't want to deal with them anymore. Unfortunately, I have to rate them one star, which is way too many. I would rate them a negative five, and still would think that was too nice. I have been to many other jewelers since (see my review for Bill's Trading Post in Berkeley - 5 stars!) and have never experienced anything nearly as bad as Sereginis, with disrespectful staff and sloppy, substandard work! I've waited years for Yelp to finally be invented just so I can warn anyone else of my experience! read more

I've been coming here for years, back when it was Baume Swiss Jewelers. I got my Tag watch battery changed here. $25, done in 10 mins. That was fine. I brought in my Rolex for maintenance and repair. When I picked it up I tried adjusting the date and time - I mentioned that it felt like the crown was a lot more difficult to unscrew and turn than I remembered. They seemed really dismissive about my concerns and didn't want to take the time to explain anything or address my concerns. In fact, one associate's response after I voiced my concern was "Best of luck to you." Huh? I guess if spending $390 for a repair is small potatoes then I'll go somewhere where I'll be treated as a valuable customer. 4 stars for the work, 0 stars for the attitude so that averages out to 2 stars. read more

I needed just the T-bar for a pocket-watch chain. They had one. I get there and it's exactly what I need. I ask how much; he says $25. (They should only cost a few dollars.) I told him that I could buy a whole new chain for that. Then he says, "Let's keep things simple... how much would you like to pay?" I tell him $10 (which is still over-priced) and he has the nerve to say "$15 and you've got a deal." That was a really blatant attempt to grossly rip-off a customer. I'll never go back. read more
