Well, customer service just isn't what it used to be, am I right? Tried for days to order online a new watch strap and the website concerning shipping certain items to California is horrendous. Figured I'd go into the store on the weekend, because they would surely have a large selection of watch straps in all sizes and materials--that was not the case! After some back and forth with the store clerk, she indicated that she could place the order and have it shipped. After being on the struggle bus for over ten minutes, I asked to see the order one last time before paying. Of course, despite my very clear instruction that I was seeking a 20mm watch strap, she had the wrong size. Oops! If you're looking for top-notch customer service, maybe best to try another location. For the price point and value, this experience doesn't instill much confidence in the brand after being a loyal customer for a decade. Felt like I was shopping at Foot Locker. I totally get the complaint that Shinola is just a nostalgic version of Fossil or some other middle-of-the-road watch company, but I have tried so hard to like this brand. Do better folks! read more

The company has quality craftsmanship and each product is designed and built in a handmade production. Yes, we've ordered a few products off the website {and purchased in the now closed Palo Alto location}, but this review is for the San Francisco location. Located on Hotaling Place, there will be plenty of street parking on the surrounding blocks {use the Pay By Phone parking app}. The building itself is located on a narrow road in the Historic Whiskey Warehouse - It's a Gorgeous store! The shop will typically have an opening to enter into the Filson store as well but because of Covid restrictions, you do have to enter/exit from each store individually. The team is taking every Covid-19 precaution: Limited access into the store, Hand sanitizing station located at the entrance and around the store, The team walking around wiping down surfaces, Masks worn by all guests & team members as well as all products sanitized before and after they are touched/tried on. Speaking of the team, they are all so fantastic at this location! It is always service with a smile and service that goes above and beyond most retail experiences. They allow you to shop and browse around the store and they all have an extensive knowledge of the products should you have any questions. I recently went to Shinola Detroit in San Francisco. There are 27 branches. On the West Coast there are two branches, one in San Francisco & two in Los Angeles including Venice & the LA Arts District. Shinola has several products on offer from bicycles, bags, watches, & notebooks. Being a longtime vegan unfortunately all the bags are leather as avoid leather products yet they are high quality bags. I especially loved their notebooks that are similar to moleskine notebooks. The notebooks are various sizes & are high quality available in both lined along with unlined pages. Notebooks were priced at $25 or so. All the products available at the store are assembled in Detroit. McCoy on the sales floor provided excellent customer service. I look forward to returning! read more

I've seen Shinola watches online but it was nice to see them in person. Nice leather goods as well. Attractive store and friendly employees. I ended up getting just a notebook that they monogrammed at no charge. I like the store but it kind of feels like what it is which is a VC-backed company using nostalgia to build a brand. I like that they have created jobs in Detroit but it does feel like an upscale Fossil with expensive bikes. This could be because the founder of Shinola is the former founder and CEO of Fossil. I don't mean that as negatively as it might sound but there is a subtle feel of manipulation as you walk through. read more

I bought an orange Shinola watch with a black band for my husband for his birthday. He loves it. Two days ago he noticed that the crystal was cracked. Yesterday the crack spread and a piece of the crystal fell off. We headed downtown. We had been in the Shinola store a few times, buying gifts, their fabulous notebooks and a pen and of course the watch. I expected the staff to be courteous and friendly because they were. This was over the top. They looked at my husband's watch, apologized and gave him a new watch. The entire transaction took 5 minutes. We were stunned. No discussion, no forms, no waiting. Shinola has a great story behind their brand. Based in Detroit Michigan and their mission is to keep manufacturing jobs here in US. I've seen their watches online, but was really blown away when I saw their collection of vintage style bikes. They're truly a piece of art. The craftsmanship and design is unparalleled. If you get a chance and your'e strolling through Jackson Square, definitely worth stopping in and checking out this flagship store. It's tucked away in a little alley entrance and has a charming outdoor area. You can get monograms printed into leather goods in store, and heard that they also host some interesting classes from whiskey to chocolate tasting events. I bought a watch that I was in love with, and spent more on it than I had ever spent on a watch. After 6 months, I began to have issues with the strap breaking loose. I came in 3 different times with the same issue with no real solution provided. Finally the strap broke loose and fell somewhere where I couldn't get it back. We didn't have a chance to have the bracelet sized in Chicago so we targeted this location for assistance since our wedding was in wine country; I planned on wearing the watch as part of my wedding outfit. We stopped in this location on a Thursday afternoon and Armando (forgive me if incorrect spelling) was welcoming, friendly, and very patient with me as we worked together to ascertain how many links needed to be taken out, some put back in, etc. The experience was exceptional. I bought my husband a Shinola watch as a wedding gift (ok, so it was after our wedding, but who's keeping score). My husband is a scientist and high-quality, well-made tools matter immensely to him. It was important that he had a watch that would stand up to day-to-day wear and that wouldn't crap out at the first sign of trouble. The sales people at Shinola were super knowledgable and very helpful. They didn't have the style in that we were looking for and they ordered it for us, called it when it arrived, and held it for us. They were just helpful enough where we felt educated, but didn't oversell--no one was pushing us, no one was hovering. Instead, they were always accessible and let us take their time. The only negative part of the experience was the watch band...my husband's not really an alligator-strap kind of guy, and there is no way to switch out the bands; instead, you must buy a whole new one. After spending a bucket of money on a watch, it was frustrating to have to purchase a separate pricey band. However, not the fault of the salespeople--that's a Shinola corporate problem. Definitely recommend. Great products, great people, great experience. The good: lots of selection, and not just watches. They have notebooks, leather goods, and other various items. The bad: this band thing bummed me out. It would've been nice to be able to trade a band in for another... I don't see why it's a problem...they have ALL the bands in stock. Oh well. read more

It is a beautiful store! They also have one in Palo Alto as well on the peninsula! I have not bought any products from Shinola, but have gone to TWO classes hosted by Shinola and LOVE them. I took the calligraphy class and also the whiskey and chocolate class. These classes benefit a specific charity and are affordable and educational. The store's story (starting out from Detroit) revitalizes how America's economy has grown overtime and has created many jobs as well (as is their point). The recently-opened Shinola (SHY-NO-LAH) store in downtown San Francisco is a beautiful space to see the Detroit-built brand's wares. Unlike in the high-end department stores and retail shops that carry their watches, at this store, you can select your watch and match it to your favorite band for a unique combination. The store carries much more than just watches though. Shinola's gorgeous city bicycles and monogrammable notebooks are also offered along with leather accessories. The store also has a pop-up shop for local designers and it even opens up to a new Filson (also owned by Shinola founder Tom Kartsotis) store on the Montgomery Street side, which carries their legendary range of tin-cloth field bags and totes. I stopped in one day as I had purchased a cardholder a few months earlier and the binding material had begun to peel off. This type of wear and damage seemed unusual since I had only been using the cardholder intermittently and for a short period of time. I asked the saleswoman whether this issue had been experienced by other customers and she offered to replace the item free of charge and send mine back to the headquarters for inspection. Gorgeous! The store itself is a work of art, the items look divine and they seem to be made well. I came here for a whiskey tasting event and loved it! The lighting was great, they let us use the bathroom (usually only for workers), and the staff was friendly. the new shinola store is awesome! it's tucked away on a quiet strip in north beach. was here last night for the shinola cola mr. holmes bakehouse event and it was fantastic! they had bartenders from rye and a great selection of baked goodies from mr. holmes (though we didnt come here early enough for the cruffin, the donut was delicious!) there is outerwear out in front, and the wide range of shinola leather good sin the back - including bikes! tons of watches displayed on walls, and notebooks on the other. there are bags and wallets and keychains and shoe horns and leather maintenance items - so HUGE collection. you can also get your notebooks and leather items engraved, which is pretty cool. the store also opens into an inner courtyard with a picnic table, in case you needed to sit down in the middle of your shopping trip. but there are also comfy couches in the store itself! thoughtful! read more

From watches, to leather goods, all the way to my personal favorite, their bicycles. You really can find anything you need at Shinola. And the quality is fantastic. This store also has an incredible inventory of products - you can find nearly anything in this store that you can find online. But even more so than the Shinola brand is the level of customer service you'll receive at this store. Wow! What can I say. First and foremost I want to thank Shinola for supporting our troops on Veterans Day, it means a lot. Second, can I say the location of the store is so trendy and hip! We loved walking down the small "street", which was more like alleyway. Third, the main part of it all, was the customer service! Everyone in the store was welcoming, even if it was busy and the sales associates were juggling more than one customer at once. They offered us water and Shinola Cola (which was a cute, refreshing touch). Our sales associate, Stephen T., was awesome. I described what I was looking for and he knew what I wanted. After helping me with my purchase, Stephen took us around the store to look at the jewelry and explain more behind the Shinola brand. It was a great shopping experience. She is by far one of the best sales associates I have encountered in my 25 plus years in the retail automobile industry. Not because she is a "closer" but because she is customer focused and her follow-through is impeccable. I have purchased a nice watch and couple small gift items from this location and have received the very best service from her. She recently helped my best friend with a birthday gift for her husband, not only did she help her find the best item but she personally took it to FEDX on her break to insure that it arrived back at their home on time. This is a beautiful store. We bought something in the Filson part of the store and then went into the Shinola store. A very nice girl started to tell us about the shoes they were selling, made of New Zealand wool. I sat down to try one on...really liked the pair, but needed one size larger. At that point, a girl rushed in the store with a pile of shoe boxes she wanted to exchange, saying she was in a hurry.
