In that short amount of time, I can already tell that Main Street is the REAL DEAL. No fluff. No games. Just work. The two-story structure has 3 rings, 15+ heavy bags, and knowledgeable trainers. There is enough parking to accommodate the staff and students. This is not a gym where the instructors are going to hold your hand. But, as a beginner myself, we are welcome. If you listen to the instructions and try your best, you will learn the proper technique and become a better boxer, athlete, and person. I also appreciate how Main Street has its own App. Zen Planner is an iPhone and Android application that allows patrons to sign-up for a membership, pay gym fees, and keep track of the schedule. People have busy lives. Anything thing that makes working out easier is alright by me.

It's essentially…read moreBarry's meets Title Boxing -- a split-room setup with boxing bags on one side and benches/floor space for traditional strength and conditioning on the other. There's a similar concept in Dallas at a locally owned studio I prefer. It has no benches, and instead of a stage, the instructor teaches from a ring in the middle of the room. Everyone does the same block (either S&C or boxing) at the same time. That layout makes way more sense to me because: A) No matter where you are in the studio, you can see the instructor clearly. B) It prevents wasted time walking between rounds or stations. At Rumble, the setup made transitions a bit clunky, and I could tell the instructor was trying to sync the music with the workout -- like timing the beat drop with high-intensity intervals -- but because both sides of the room were doing different things, it felt off. As someone who with rhythm, that bugged me. Anyways, the front desk staff were incredibly kind, and knowledgeable. Heads up: you'll need wraps and gloves -- you can rent or buy them

They include a round with human-like targets that move, to practice timing. They are very responsive to suggestions to improve the gym. It is very conveniently located here in the Houston Heights. And there's no better instructor around than Daesha. Hakeem's pretty good, too.

Here's why I love it: About my trainer: I train with Scott, who also manages Catalyst. Scott assesses your goals and develops a plan to meet them. I particularly appreciate that Scott strives to keep things interesting, which is really important for me, because I will quickly abandon a boring program. He pushes his clients just enough -- he won't let you quit too easily, but without being aggressive (which I've experienced with other non-Catalyst trainers). Scott has an encyclopedic knowledge of workout programs, which has been very helpful for facilitating workouts that do not aggravate my pre-existing shoulder injury. About the gym: Catalyst is in located on the first floor of the Tradition Bank building. There's plenty of parking in the attached garage. The studio is petite, but there's plenty of room for even those exercises that take up a lot of floor space. Additionally, we take advantage of the top floor of the garage when the weather is nice (which offers beautiful, unobstructed skyline views), the ramps in the garage, and the 9 levels of building stairways. We also run laps outdoors. I particularly enjoy varying my warm-up laps and running around the nearby museums. A lot of the workout are body-weight focused. However, there is also plenty of equipment (e.g. kettle bells, free weights, Smith machine, treadmill, elliptical, weighted balls, boxing equipment any many other things that I can't think of as I type this review). About my workouts: I used to train one-on-one (which was great), but Catalyst recently created an fantastic option for group workouts called "Open Gym." Open Gym requires a little bit more independence, as there are usually 2 to 4 people working out at the same time, each with a circuit that is designed for that individual "trainee." Open Gym is discounted from the usual rate, and it is flexible: I believe you can come in any day Monday through Friday for a set cost. Overall, this place is great, Scott is an excellent trainer, and I am really happy to have found a training gym that I don't dread visiting. Check it out!

He keeps things interesting and adjusts to our needs. He is very professional and always punctual. His studio was immaculate when we trained there. When Covid happened, Scott adapted every step of the way. When all gyms had to close, we shifted to in home training. This has been the best thing ever and we plan to continue this beyond Covid. The workouts are tailored to our needs and never boring. It's amazing what he can do with minimal equipment and body weight!!! We cannot day enough good things. I recommend Scott wholeheartedly!!!
