So I felt that I needed to look for a local vet instead. Four days ago I took my cat to a different, local vet (It was NOT Family Pet) to have a skin condition looked at and treated.... and that visit was one of my worst experiences with any veterinary hospital. The only good thing was that my cat was handled kindly throughout the examination. THEREFORE, I've decided that I am returning to Family Pet. It's over an hours' drive away from where I now live, but their level of care is worth it. Dr. Sue Mowcomber has always treated my pets - and me - with kindness and compassion. She also let me be with them while she examined them and she always explained her recommended treatments (what they were, why she chose certain options and she answered my questions). Family Pet's prices were always very fair, too. After what I just experienced at a local vet, I wish I'd never left Family Pet. Hopefully that will be remedied just as soon as I can get an appointment with Family Pet.

Other vets I have been to, good and bad, would put several options and then say "well, what do you think is best?" How would I know, I'm not a vet. I've watched every episode of Doc McStuffins but that is as far as it goes. The guidance and direction went all the way to the end when we eventually had to say that last goodbye. They knew it was time and were gentle and understanding that it just sucks and though you'll always want one more walk or snuggle on the couch, it's not fair to your friend who is in pain with no relief in sight. Today I went to pick up my new buddy from a procedure. On the counter there was a candle and a nice note asking people to be mindful that someone was saying that hard farewell. It was just another way that shows me that they care about their clients regardless of how many legs they have and inspired me to write this review.

Along with all the things that go along with having a new puppy I had to go vet shopping. I wanted to make sure I found a vet for the long haul and I was very unhappy with the practice we had used for our boxers. I also was turned off by the national chains like Banfield through places like PetSmart. The thousands of negative reviews on the BBB website are enough to give you shivers. It turns out finding a vet with room in their practice is no easy task. In the end, I settled on a small practice in Gardner Ma called Tender Heart Vet Care PC. My decision to bring Toby to Tender Heart was based on their reviews and the initial conversations I had with the office staff. They were very friendly, professional, and seemed genuinely excited to add an Anatolian Shepard to their list of patients. With all the challenges posed by COVID-19, I was unable to go into the office with my dog for his first appointment. The staff handled the odd situation very well and Toby seemed none worse for the wear. Like every vet, I received a list of all the recommendations and accompanying pricing. First visit, new puppy, I agreed to everything and this is where this review gets down to brass tacks. After I brought Toby and my invoice home, I checked into every vaccine and treatment. I am a researcher at heart and based on my research questioned one of the treatments and asked about the future vaccine schedule. This was all in a rather lengthy email. I received an email in return; very complete, very informative, and very prompt. That is what cemented my decision to stay with this practice. They are, to my experience; open, honest, and informative, a rare combination in veterinary practices. I am comfortable recommending this practice and will no doubt be leaving follow up reviews as Toby and I use them in the future.

I contacted 3 other in home service providers only after waiting 36 + hours for at the very least an acknowledgment , all of which got back to me within hours of me contacting them. This goes a long way in this type of practice. While I understand an immediate response isn't always feasible, i Am still sitting here, my animal now over the rainbow bridge with no call back.

We did a Google search for "24-hour ER vet" and went with the first hit... Now I saw a lot of anger and vitriol about the wait times and the vet fees at this place, so I was prepared for the worst. The wait time proved to be about as expected. I mean, this is emergency care. You have to expect long wait times especially if your issue is not "immediately life threatening". After we paid the check in fee, both our dogs were seen instantaneously by a vet tech. She was competent and friendly and accurately determined that our dogs weren't in any imminent danger. *phew* So our minds were put at ease. That's when our "wait time" began. And yes, it was slightly longer than we expected. But like I said; it's the ER. It's a crap shoot. After the extended wait, both our boys were examined and diagnosed by a friendly and knowledgeable DVM. It was a fast exam, but it was clear she knew what she was doing and had all the answers we needed. Our boys got what their treatments and we were on our way. As far as the fees go, YES they are quite high. Again, it's the nature of the ER and this place shouldn't be judged so fiercely on just that. But let me tell you, it is surprisingly expensive to go here. We are the types who say "whatever it takes" when it comes to our animals -- and even we were a bit surprised by the high cost of treatments. In the end, I'm not unhappy or dissatisfied with the care our dogs got at this place. In fact, the opposite. It was a late night emergency situation - not a regular exam or basic health concern. I hope to never be put in the situation where I need to depend on a 24 hour emergency vet clinic, but in the off chance I was, I wouldn't avoid this place. Based on my one personal experience, it was adequate and acceptable. That being said though, to anyone bringing their animals here; a few words of advice. 1: make sure it is a real emergency and you cannot wait until the next morning to see your normal vet. This is an ER. If your dog has a runny nose and you bring him here, you will be asked to wait behind the dog who was just hit by a car or the dog whose having full-on seizures. 2: Be prepared to wait longer than you are used to if your animal is not in "life threatening danger" (remember, it is an ER) and even if you think your dog is in imminent danger, you are probably not a vet and are probably not thinking objectively. 3: Be prepared to pay a little extra money than you are used to. (Again. Remember, it is an ER.) It is pricey to go here, so make sure you really need it when you make the call to go. If you can go into the clinic with those three things in mind, you will find this place is more than adequate for getting your animals back to health and probably won't feel compelled to write an angry review trashing people who, in actuality, are doing a really good job providing an important service.

She was obviously in distress so I called Wachusett emergency vet, described her situation and they said to bring her right over and they would check her out. We drover the 45 minutes to get there only to be told: oh we are at capacity and will not be able to see her! The next emergency vet is in Boston, 2 hours away! No one really cares anymore and that's really a shame. We now sitting in the car weighing our options as to what to do. Someone in that office clearly advised me to bring her there.

For that reason he's moderately priced but he's got the experience and knowledge enough to know the real facts... not give you a million useless medications... shoot sometimes he just recommends lifestyle changes instead of pills when he could easily have given my dogs tons more drugs. I have 4 pooches - I trust all of them to BAH. All of them have ailments, allergies, aging issues and previous medical mysteries I am still figuring out as they are rescues with little to no record of such. He gives you the fair answer - not the ones you want to hear so you'll whip out the checkbook. He gives each dog undivided attention and care should you have multiple pets. Easy to get him on the phone - even when he is with a client, he answers! That may be annoying for some - but go in with the understanding he does Most if not all himself! He still writes notes/records/scrips literally BY HAND. No automation other than a credit card processing machine, fax machine and a tiny little radio from 1986 that cranks out the tunes in the hazy background.Good with animals for sure with the experience to boot. He helped both of my bigger dogs with skin issues... no harsh steroids needed. Gave my older pup a good antibiotic instead of costly heart/chest exams that could have been upwards of $2000. Everything he recommended for my dogs has worked as long as I go follow the regimen. Now my dogs all know the place they are actually pretty comfortable there. I take them there for all of their vaccinations and yearly check ups without hesitation. He always asks me to call and let him know how they are doing and he even adjusts the meds dosage if its working to reduce their intake.. I love it. Worth the ride if its not an emergency and its not too far for you to get out here and get the medical attention your animal deserves!

I've been a loyal client of this clinic for many years, and I was really hoping that the change in…read moreownership would maintain the same level of care that I had come to expect. While most of the staff has been wonderful, I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Bobadilla when I brought my sick chihuahua in for a visit. Unfortunately, Dr. Bobadilla's bedside manner is lacking. I felt dismissed and hopeless during my visit. Other than a few "I'm so sorry" statements there was a lack of empathy and communication when it came to explaining my pet's condition and treatment options. It left me feeling uneasy and very angry about the care being provided. I took her to another provider the same day. This veterinarian was able to help me stabilize her with at home care, subcutaneous fluids that I am administering daily and even recommended a dietary change. None of this was addressed with Dr. Bobadilla. Dr. Bobadilla recommended euthanasia and even asked if I wanted to do it then and there. The audacity! I understand that everyone has a different approach, but it was a stark contrast to the kindness, professionalism and old school approach I experienced with Dr. Chapman over the years with my four dogs. On a positive note, the rest of the clinic staff are always friendly, attentive, and professional. Due to this incident I have decided to move my pets elsewhere. I hope Dr. Bobadilla works on improving communication and compassion when interacting with pet owners.
