The wait staff takes orders and even the cook takes orders directly. Only during lunch times do you have to wait but never more than 15 min. I love local eateries. Those places that locals know about that fall under the radar because of other big name places in the neighborhood. Oscar's Deli is that place. Located right on Millburn Avenue in Millburn, NJ, Oscar's is a gem. It has a nice unassuming exterior but the interior feels like a true city deli with a nice long counter for customers to sit and eat. I work right down the road so I opt for pick up but I've eaten in there plenty of times and was always treated quickly and warmly. Now the food. I normally go for sandwiches as this is what I'm always in the mood for but they got everything here and it's always good. My cheese steak sandwich is hefty and filled and always flavorful and delicious. My sweet potato fries were cooked to my order as I asked for them to be extra crispy and well done. I picked this spot to get lunch. I ordered online and got the grilled eggplant wrap with fries. I picked up the food at 12:45 and it was only about $11. The parking in the area was terrible so had to park illegally. I walked in and they honored the free drink I got at check in. The server and manager were nice but very busy. I grabbed my food and left. When I dug in I was a litle disappointed. The fries were salty and the wrap wasn't great. I ate it because I was hungry and it was filling but I won't get this meal again. read more

Their subs are pretty good, if very pricey. I spoke with the manager for a bit regarding business, and he seemed slightly interested, if dismissive. But the food was made well. Until I was rang up by a younger cashier; my order was very wrong. When I went to ask for the correct order, the cook/supervisor( I assume) on duty gave me snark and attitude, asking me why would I order the sub if I didn't want it. The manager (Oscar, I believe) took care of the simple fix, but I left feeling very on-edge, with the cashier rushing me, and the cook asking why I'd order something to come back and change it. This is no fault of their own, as i have only had 1 meal from here thus far, but a strong strong 4 star is a good start. I have seen there subs, as someone else from my job brought a couple subs in and i knew right away i had to know where they got their sandwiches from. Ive been meaning to get there for the subs/sandwiches and also to try other things from their lengthy menu, but on this day, luckily enough, i found out theyre on doordash. Considering it was 11am, i had to go with a break platter. On doordash its the first one, the letter A. 3 eggs, and your choice of side of meat, you get their home fries, and white wheat or rye. I got 3 eggs over medium, sausage links, rye toasted with butter, home fries. Now usually i am against ordering breakfast to go/be delivered because i just dont feel it travels well.. Oscars completely changed my opinion of that as everything was still nice and warm, cooked and put together perfectly, and absolutely fresh and delicious!!! I will be returning to try the rest of the menu, esp the subs, and im pretty positive that star will reach 5. Walked in and grabbed the super sub as just a half - it was a huge sub and came at a reasonable price, was probably the best I'd ever had! I've been eating at Oscars for 20+ years; I love the food but was disappointed today in their lack of COVID precautions. The three people working there were all wearing masks, but all three had their noses exposed (negating any value of mask. Additionally there was no plexiglass or other divider in front of the cashier like I see in most other establishments. Came here for lunch a few times. The menu has a ton of variety which is nice but flavor wise I definitely expected more. The Greek salad with grilled chicken was fresh and crisp but the chicken was pretty much flavorless. Same issue with the gyro; you can do better with a trip to Astoria or the East village. Yesterday was me and my boyfriend's first time at Oscar's deli and restaurant. When we walked in the door we weren't greeted by any of the staff members nor did they seem eager to assist us. We were there for a good 5-7 minutes before the man behind the counter asked if we were ready to order. After placing our order we waited for a short while. As we waited a man without a mask on entered the restaurant and placed an order. None of the staff members told him to put on a mask despite there being a no mask, no entrance sign on the door. Why even have a sign on the door if you aren't going to enforce it. Also keep in mind that the restaurant isn't that big. This shows that Oscar's deli and restaurant isn't interested in keeping it's customers safe during a pandemic . At this point we were just ready to get our food and go. I'm rounding up to four stars because they are one of the few places where you can get a really delicious, authentic gyro (carved off the rotisserie). And there are always cops there early in the morning, which is a good sign. And my barber (who worked next door for 30 years) ate there all the time and liked it. But their sub sandwiches were just "good" but not great, therefore four stars. read more
