WOW. The food was so good here. And the views!!! We got a table right by the window and were able to overlook the mountains. I appreciated that we were able to switch tables (originally we were seated farther away but asked to move closer to the window). Our servers were moderately friendly. The real star of the show were the meatballs and Marionberry grilled cheese. They were so tasty! My friend described the meal as "indulgent" and a "delicacy". The interior decoration of the restaurant was obviously cabin-themed since it's inside a ski resort. I'd be curious to see if it was more festive around Christmas time. read more

Classic bar & restaurant located in the Timberline Lodge at the foot of Mount Hood. Worth a stop for drinks and food if you are at the lodge, are hungry and want sit down table service. They were very busy; service was spotty but friendly. We had to wait 40 minutes for a table but we were a big group. Showed up at 10:45 when they close at 11 - bartender was personable and she was happy to take our order - we ordered doubles and closed out the. Ills so they could close out at 11 - instead the bartender talked us up and smiled and was happy to have us, it felt like - we were so pleased with the surrounds and the build of the bar - above the lobby, circular, could look down onto those enjoying the fireplace - drinks were stiff, bartender was awesome, probably my favorite bar in our 2 week PNW road trip! read more

This restaurant is conveniently located a floor above the Cascade Dining Room and is more affordably priced. We visited during the off season, in June, and sat near the window with a view of Mt. Hood. The clam chowder and pork mole were both great but the salad had a ton of dressing on it. The service was also really nice, I just wish I had ordered something different. I could see many of the other options being hardy, perfect after a long day of skiing! read more

Came here after doing a couple hour hike on Mount Hood next door. We came here because there wasn't a wait. I had the berry and brie grilled cheese with potato chips, daughter had the picante macaroni and cheese. She really enjoyed her dish and everyone at the table really liked how fresh the potato chips were - they must be made at the restaurant. My berry and brie grilled cheese had really good bread, very filling as well. It's located on the third floor so there are some nice views from the windows outside. Even though we ordered an appetizer, everything was still all brought out at the same time. Staff was friendly, so overall a good experience. read more

Came on the perfect day to experience 1st snow at the Timberline Lodge. Fireplace as you enter lodge. Ram's Bar is on the 3rd floor above the restaurant. We got there just before 11am so we were the 2nd group to wait to be seated. The window view was really nice since this was the 1st visit to the lodge for one person in our party. It had started snowing as we parked so it was cool watching the snow. Drinks were enjoyed by everyone. The food was good. I only got pictures of 2 dishes. We were hungry so the other 2 were doved into before I could snap a picture. I had the meatballs. They were perfect with the bread, not overly sweet. There was a few flies around the window where I sat so it was making me anxious until I smooshed the one that kept coming towards my drink. This and our impatient waitress was reason for one less star. Despite this, I would come again. read more

My cousin and I recently had dinner here after being evacuated from a wildfire in the Columbia River Gorge. We set up camp down the road at Sherwood Campground, and then drove up to the Timberline Lodge so she could see the views from the front balcony (which are incredible). By the time we arrived to the lodge, the Ram's Head Bar was the only thing left open, so, even though neither one of us was drinking, we decided to eat here. We asked for a table with a view, and the host did not disappoint us. He even walked around the whole upper floor to make sure he was giving us the best available table. We had a view facing the top of Mt Hood. We split the Maple Bourbon Bacon Meatballs and the Timberline Stout Mac and Cheese. We loved the mornay sauce on the mac and cheese, and the bread crumbs baked on top. The cavatappi was perfectly cooked. The meatballs were yummy, but tasted nothing like maple, bacon, or bourbon. My cousin and I both agreed that they tasted like nothing but salt. We joked that they were meant to be split by a group because there was enough salt in them for at least six people. Even though we were very hungry, the two dishes ended up being more than enough food for the two of us. We weren't able to finish all of the meatballs and gravy, but we did polish off the mac and cheese. The host and server were both great, and we loved the ambiance so much. The Timberline Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places for its design and architecture. Overall the prices are actually kind of reasonable considering the ambiance and the fact that the food probably has to be trucked in from very far away. Although I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, I thought the food was decent for a park lodge bar. read more

Rams Head was pretty good. The drive up was nice, and the setting was fantastic. We headed upstairs and it took about 5 minutes to get seated. The server took a while to get to our table and actually tended to tables that were seated after us before even coming to get our drink order. We decided to have some drinks and appetizers. The street corn is a cold dish and was pretty mediocre. The olive plate was tasty. The hot cider drink was probably the highlight. Great setting, decent food, meh service. read more

Go for the beautiful ambiance--nothing compares to it. My $22 chicken curry salad was good but the stout Mac and cheese was served romp temperature. It tasted good but it would have been great hot. The service was slow and scattered. Know that you're going to pay extra for lunch in this historic, stunning lodge. For us, it was a fair trade. Rams Head is on The second floor and the big windows overlooking the north displayed a beautiful view of the mountain. Food was great, delicious and pleasingly displayed. The service was spot on. Heaven forbid we price food for what it actually costs to pay the staff. This needs to stop and unless it changes, it's going to slash my rating My dad ordered the prime rib sandwich and found it very tasty. I had the chickpea masala which was surprisingly good for a non-ethnic food place. We ordered the fruit crisp for desert and it feeds 4 honestly we had leftovers after. While visiting the area for a few days, we stopped in at the Timberline Lodge for an early dinner. The Rams Head Bar is located on the second floor of the lodge. Upon entering, we only waited a minute before being greeted with all smiles and seated immediately with stunning views of Mt. Hood. Our waiter was so polite and friendly with fast service. He checked in on us a couple of times to ensure all was going well. We only wanted a few small bites or apps to split and highly recommend the Hot Jumbo Pretzel (served with pimento cheese sauce & stone ground mustard), the Maple Bourbon Bacon Meatballs, and the Smoked Mushroom Dip. We were also served a plate of soft thick sliced bread with this delicious whipped butter (possibly part of the meatball dish). I have not stopped thinking about all three of these dishes! They were so delicious and just the best comfort food we've had since visiting! And...the decor of such history in this establishment was stunning! An absolute MUST place to visit! read more

Stopped by the Bar for lunch at 12:50pm, about half the tables full. Ordered a cup of Tomato soup and the artichoke dip appetizer... shouldn't take long, right? I sat for 30 minutes waiting for the cup of soup. Flagged down my server, Heather, asked if she could just bring me the soup now and appetizer whenever it was ready. She said sure. 15 minutes later, still no soup. 5 minutes after that, my soup and appetizer plate arrive. Heather asks me if everything is ok, I say no, this took over a half hour. She apologized said she was busy with other tables and she would have the manager stop by. The soup was fine, but the artichoke dip had almost no artichokes and was a creamy mess, so salty, I couldn't eat it, as much as I wanted to. Of course no manager stopped by, so I found him myself, who said it should have never taken that long and comped the meal (which I appreciated). At that point I'd been there an hour. The great ambiance and views don't make up for the bad service and bad food. read more

Service : I came to this establishment for years. It is the worst experience I had. It was not busy. We got seated at 7:05 pm . The restaurant may be about 80% full. I didn't get any service for the order taken till 7:35 pm. And my 8:12 pm. I was still waiting for our dinner orders: spinach salad with strawberries and a Mac and cheese entree. I wish I could give them a negative review. Ambiance is historic. Nothing can beat that . I really really want them to thrive. But what would they want to do things differently. It took about 20 minutes to receive a replacement sandwich. I sat there with an empty drink and no follow up. The replacement sandwich was chewy and unappetizing. I had another drink to try and forget about it, luckily I only had to wait another 40 min for the check. Brought friends from the east coast to Timberline, a hotel on the National Historical Register and filled with so much history and architectural detail. We had already hiked around Trillium Lake and worked up an appetite so stopped at Rams Head Bar on the 2nd floor for the views and some food. Service was slow, they are definitely understaffed as of this writing. At least when our drinks came it made the long wait for the food more bearable. The stars of the orders were the opened face albacore tuna sandwich topped with peppers. It was flavorful and very filling. As was the Caprese sandwich served on ciabatta. My friend who ordered the elk sausage said it was fantastic. Unfortunately me and another friend ordered the Italian sandwich and it was barely edible. Served on a thick baguette that was stale and dry, I couldn't get it down. Just a few slices of meat, tomato, and two pieces of spinach it was far from satisfying. But I was hungry! So I ordered a side salad which was a bowl of fresh spinach and one single olive with oil and vinegar bottles brought to the table. I discarded the top of baguette, added lots of spinach drizzled with oil & vinegar to add needed moisture and flavor, and did my best to get some of it down. For $22, it was dismal. All the sandwiches were served with a huge portion of kettle chips, so many that we combined the leftovers into a takeout box for car snacks. Beers and hard cider come in 10, 16 or 22 oz sizes and were all good. Our waitress warmed up to us eventually, we even managed to make her smile and chuckle. Never understand why places that can charge a premium because they have a fabulous view get lazy with the food. In my world, you can have a spectacular view and delicious food. read more

I loved the giant windows right next to the seating area, where you could gaze out at the snow and skiers while enjoying a beverage/meal. Rams Head is a nice casual alternative if you're not looking to dine at their a bit more upper scale restaurant. First off, get the hot chocolate. They load it with sugary goodness on top and was the perfect escape from the cold weather outside! They have a few different bar food-type options. Normally, Timberline Lodge is a pretty spectacular dining experience when it comes to excellent service, food quality, and atmosphere. I'm up here pretty regularly throughout the year with clients for dinners. However, this is the second time in the last few months where I've been up here with clients and had a very subpar experience. Tonight, I ordered an almost $25 chicken Caesar salad and received a bowl with three notably brown heads of Romain with what appeared to be a small freezer bag chicken breast that might've been boiled or microwaved with some salt and pepper on top. The lettuce should've been tossed in the garbage, and it's mind blowing from a food service standpoint that it was plated and sent out. I think Grocery Outlet could've provided better looking and tasting lettuce. How on earth did a fine dining establishment even think it was acceptable, let alone a good idea, to send this salad to a paying customer?? For an extra $8 to add chicken to my salad I expected a fresh, grilled chicken breast. What I received looked like it had been boiled to death or overcooked in a microwave. Thankfully the dressing masked the bad flavor on the front end but the aftertaste might make me sick, hopefully I don't end up with a food borne illness. Timberline is a historic lodge known throughout the region for fine dining with a heck of a view and excellent service. It doesn't matter if you're eating in the main restaurant or either of the bars. The brand is about blending a a unique high-end alpine experience with "exciting, fresh, locally sourced ingredients...we put exceptional care into every aspect of our guests' dining experience." Tonight was way off what they strive for and advertise on their website. I get that food and labor costs are high but seriously, this experience was not acceptable from any establishment. Especially one like Timberline. I know Timberline can do better. Management needs to work with the kitchen and servers to provide better quality assurance and client experiences that are on brand. It's a real bummer that this happened with out-of-town clients who want to experience the best that Oregon has to offer. This was not even in the realm of what Timberline has done for so many years and become known for. Please work to step up your game. read more

We came here for lunch on a Monday. It didn't seem very busy but we waited a long time to be seated. We waited about 30 minutes to order. Once we ordered a sandwich and some soup it took over 40 minutes to get the food. We ordered some cocktails which were very good. When our food finally came I took one bite of my sandwich only to discover the bottom piece of bread was badly molded. We sent it back and they got us another one in about 20 minutes. It was just ok. Certainly not a $24 sandwich. It took 20-30 minutes to be able to pay after we asked for the check. (All still while not busy). After being seated we were given water that was also spilt all over the table. When food finally came around the taste was less than mediocre, which is disappointing due to the fact that the Rams head is so highly spoken about. I'll give the mixed drinks a 5 but the way the bar is set up a 3. When you walk in and someone isn't at the top of the stairs in the lodge to help you out it's quite confusing. If you go one way around the circular area and talk with someone they may say sit anywhere and when you do you hear from someone else the area is closed- then if you sit at the bar area and order food you can sit in an area that is closed that also serves food. If you think this description is confusing then please go to the Rams Head Bar! Seat yourself sometimes but not always and if you do you need to move to another area and go up to the bar to order your food but then again don't because someone may come by and take your order. The food was really good! Ordinarily, food at a ski lodge is not that great but this was an exception to the rule. I *believe* this Ram's Head is owned by the same company that owns the other ones in Oregon, including one on NW 23rd Street near the Pearl district and that place was always top notch even if a bit loud sometimes. This location was not rambunctious in the least - perhaps as the hours get later and there are more drinkers/partiers in there, it gets more unsettled LOL The servers were really nice and accommodating. I hadn't been to Timberline in like forever and a day so it was nice to go back again. We had a perfect table that overlooked Mt. Jefferson. Looking forward to going back sometime!! read more
