I ordered from this restaurant last night for the second time and I was very disappointed! I ordered the 19.50 brisket and a side of collard greens and macaroni. The brisket was as expensive as it was had only fat and little to no lean beg and I couldn't eat it so I wasted my money! The Macaroni had a nasty tasting season all over the top - I didn't eat but 2 bites, and it was cold and dry, not cheesy as it should have been. I ordered this food through Uber Eats - they offered 20%of my next meal- VERY INCONSIDERATE ESPECIALLY SINCE MY MEAL WAS OVER 40$ AND I COULDN'T EAT IT!!! There were a couple reasons we chose Hudson Smokehouse. 1. My partner saw a video online of their wings 2. They were listed in an article as one of the best BBQ spots in NYC We made the quick commute from Harlem and entered a very low key establishment where you line up, place your order and food is brought to your table. The vibe is very low energy and simple. We ordered wings, brisket, pork ribs, Mac n cheese, greens and baked beans. The food only took about 7 minutes and once we received it, the speed made sense. All of the meat was cold, cold like there was no attempt to even heat it up. The brisket was hard, chewy and flavorless. The wings were ok but nothing to write home about and again... cold. Pork ribs were also tough and over cooked. The sides were something beyond our comprehension. The baked beans had a lot going on. An assortment of kidney beans, pinto and maybe carrots? It was disgusting and strange. On to the greens! Lord have mercy, it should be a crime to ruin greens like this. I've never tasted any greens like this in my life. There was a thick creamy residue on them and they tasted like bland, heavy foliage. Greens aren't super hard to make but it's as if they wanted to put a spin on the sides. The mac n cheese was flavorless but resembled Mac n cheese, it was also hot so easily the best item we had. We ate one bite of each item and then requested the food to be removed. The staff shrugged and didn't seem surprised that we left all the food behind. This is a low frills establishment that's attempted to make BBQ. I don't think anything is actually barbecued, I'm guessing they're baking or grilling meats in an oven and slathering BBQ sauce on it... no clue. We went back to Harlem and enjoyed BBQ at a low key spot called Tito's. I don't know what the hype is about and we left wondering if anyone who's eaten there or works there have ever had actual BBQ before. read more

First off, this area in the Bronx, I've never been to before. Not only does it have Hudson Smokehouse, but it appears to have so many other little gems in the neighborhood. I must get back to explore more. Ok, Hudson Smokehouse. It's such a cute corner spot, that gives me Nashville vibes. Maybe it's just me, but I love Nashville and the food scene there. HS just gave me those feels. I loved it lol. Going inside made me feel like (once again) I wasn't in Kansas, I mean New York anymore. I just got a chill, southern vibe. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They were offering happy hour at the time, so we got a couple drinks. I got the sangria (not pictured) and I told my friend, that it was one of the better sangrias I've had in NYC. Just rich in flavor and overall tasty. My friend got the pina colada, which he also enjoyed. I was craving ribs, as I hadn't had any good ribs in the city in quite sometime. So I ordered a half rack of ribs, with some Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese was impressive. As a black man, we are picky with our Mac n cheese and usually, if it isn't baked, my suspect radar sky rockets lol. But this wasn't baked, and it was quite delicious. It had the perfect amount of seasoning, cheese, and a nice texture to the noodles. The ribs. The ribs were very good. They were smokey, flavorful from what seemed to be a nice dry rub, and tender. Adding their house bbq sauce made them even better. Overall, I'd give them a B+. I actually plan to go back to try their brisket because I can tell they're good with meats and know how to treat them. Lastly, was the deep fried PB&J sandwich. I saw this sandwich in an Eater article as one of the best sandwiches in NYC, so I HAD to try it. First off, I love me a classic PB&J. But deep fried?....I was SOLD. I expressed my excitement to the staff when I arrived, and they told me that I would love it. That of course, just added to the excitement. They brought it out to me, and it just looked BEAUTIFUL! I mean, lightly dusted in powdered sugar, nicely fried, the PB&J peaking out. It was so ready for a photoshoot, and even more ready to grace my tastebuds. I picked it up. It's still nice and hot. I even saw the steam coming from it. I gently take my first bite and.....ecstasy. PB&J ecstasy. It tasted better than I could've ever imagined. Omg. The batter was extremely lite! Like, airy and crispy. You got a slight sweetness from the powdered sugar on the outside, but also from the jelly on the inside. The heat made the peanut butter extra creamy, almost runny. I chewed slowly because I wanted to take it all in. I saw exactly why this sandwich made that Eater list. It was DIVINE, and I want more. Hudson Smokehouse is a gem in the Bronx. I really wanted to like/love this place. I went in and ordered a Mac and cheese and iced tea. Literally just that and time just kept elapsing. I asked at least twice, the workers would seemingly get mad when I did so even though I asked nicely. It was not busy to the point where they couldn't deliver and most importantly other people coming in were getting served prior to me, which I vocalized. They then said it was given to me and I laughed because nothing was in front of me on my table. Finally about 30mins elapsed and I just asked for my refund. Workers looked irritated and mad that I did but I didn't care since they were both not on top of orders, a simple single Mac and cheese order and gave me unjustified attitude. Per my earlier review from a couple of years ago. This bbq is decent at best. It's not THE BEST, but it's reasonable considering its area. I would honestly rate the food 3.5. Their best dishes are the brisket, cornbread (on the days it's not drowning in sweet potato juice?), and [sometimes] their mac and cheese. They offer a lunch special from noon (?) until 2 pm, which provides the "restaurant" favorites ( chicken wings, 1/2 chicken, brisket sandwich, turkey sandwich, 1/2lb smash burger), and they each come with a side of your choice. For a bbq restaurant, aren't like the south and gives your portions to make you full. Which is my personal nitpick. The big problem!!! THE BIG CON!! THE EMPLOYEES behind the counter DO NOT RECEIVE any of the credit card tips that a customer may leave. If its not handed to them directly or left in the tip jar in front of the register (which they'll then split) , they won't be tipped otherwise. As someone who left the restaurant industry. That's low-down. If you can y'all! PLEASE TIP IN CASH. Those ladies are so friendly and give great service and are so bright. I can't imagine how much money they could've been making had they received their CC tips. I'm ashamed!! I'm sorry to those ladies and gent back there. Food service and ambiance is excellent. I downloaded the yelp app just to leave a review because the food is delicious. The burger meat is so tender and juicy. The ribs are perfection with the sauces on the side and the wings are so good as well. I loved fries and the cole slaw. I have little ones and they loved the burgers. We bought 1 burger and split it for the girls. There is a pizza shop right around the corner just in case. I love this place. read more

This place is a rip off! If you order "The Cookout", you will get smaller portions! No one tells you this. I asked how many wings you get in an order & I was told 6. When I get my order, there are only 4 wings in the box. I take my wings back to the place and I'm told when you order the Cookout, you only get 4 wings. The cashier was really polite and told me I miss informed and asked if I wanted something else. I said no and that cashier was really nice but that is misleading and it should be posted. After waiting in silence I was not acknowledged by the employees looking dead at me and when I went up to them and asked okay how does this work!? The female employee with medium length, brown curly hair asked " Where are you sitting?" I replied " Outdoor" and to that response she replies So you order here , find a seat, and sit where ever the hell you want." I stopped into Hudson Smokehouse during a long walk in the early days of the COVID-19 shutdown. I'd driven by this brand new restaurant numerous times in it's pre-opening days just before reaching the 2nd avenue bridge during my commute home. It caught my eye because there are very few noteworthy BBQ spots in the South Bronx and Harlem. The fact that it was in it's unfortunately timed 'grand opening' lead me to give it a try, even though it was pouring rain and I had a 2 mile walk home. . I ordered the pulled pork, brisket, mac & cheese, coleslaw and cornbread. While waiting for my order, I checked out the very homey dining room, which featured dark wood paneling and exposed brick. It seemed like it would be a great place to catch an afterwork drink or dinner with friends. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. Both the pulled pork and the brisket were juicy and very well seasoned. The cornbread had a truly special depth of flavor, and the cole slaw was perfectly fresh and crunchy. The mac & cheese was perfectly respectable. All in all, I would consider this place a staple and will be coming back. read more

The waffles didn't seem fresh and eventually split open and it looked more like bread pressed with a waffle iron - that's the best explanation I could give for them. I came here last week and I must say I have had better bbq. Now what I did enjoy was the hh martini. That was delicious. I also liked their wings. Now we ordered a lot of items from their menu. The food was somewhat cold and it was not very flavorful. I love ribs and to me bbq always equals bbq. The ribs were cold and did not have taste. We also had the brisket and I think that was better. For sides we had the Brussels sprouts which were good. We also ordered the sausage and it was really good. The cornbread was also very good. The macaroni and cheese was not very good, not very flavorful. The service was good, they gave us samples of the banana pudding. We got the banana pudding it was overly sweet but I could not stop eating it. I would say there are better bbq places but maybe it was an off day. I do know it is Covid and I might give them another chance maybe that day was an off day for them. Overall their hh is good and their lunch menu looks good too. I am writing this review as I am in this establishment. I walked past this establishment and decided to Walk in and grab the to go menu. I called this establishment six times in a matter of 20 minutes, nobody pick up the phone. So I decided to come in and place my order. I told the cashier that I called six times in 20 minutes. She looked me dead in my face and told me they were busy, please note that there was nobody sitting when I walked in. No apology was offered as well. If it wasn't for me grabbing food from my boyfriend, I wouldn't even spend money in here. Because you could tell nobody cared, and hospitality.
