This is one of those places that's a staple in my childhood and in the neighborhood. I've been coming here since I was a little girl, and as I got older, I just kept coming back. The food has never let me down. For me, Pee Dee's is more than just a place to eat. It's comfort. It's familiarity. It's one of those places that reconnects me to home every time I walk through the door. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I find myself stopping by because it just feels right. My go-to order has always been the same: a quarter barbecue chicken, a baked potato with cheese, a side salad with Italian dressing, and of course the garlic bread. It's my meal. My comfort meal. Not too long ago, I switched it up and got the barbecue chicken salad, and it was so good. That barbecue sauce they use is delicious. I don't know exactly what they put in it, but it works. And the char from the grill? Always on point. That's one thing I can say about Pee Dee's: consistency. The food tastes the way I remember it tasting years ago. Nothing has changed, and honestly, that's part of what makes it special. You know what you're getting every single time, and somehow it still hits just as hard. The table I used was dirty as if it wasn't wiped down for the guests. I ordered and was charged for a 16 ounce porter house but was served a 10oz t bone steak. I paid near double what I should have. This place use to be good. Now they have the worst person at the register. He is nasty he is not customer friendly. He thinks he owns the place, and on top off all that he is rude. The customer is NEVER right with him. It is a shame I stop going there anyway cause the food was all burnt the last time I went and spent over $25 for salmon with bones, it was burnt so bad i had to throw it out and when I went back to speak to the person at the register he said he could do nothing. But he took my money fast when I paid. Not all the time is the customer right but at some point you have to help the customer so they can come back. Now the place is mostly empty and I hope that the owner realizes that she made a mistake putting such a person on the register read more

My family and I have been visiting this location for many year. Mr.Choo, the owner was always so nice to us. I once was able to say hello to his wife, also incredibly nice. It's to my unfortunate, that I have to write about my experience with the gentleman who took my order over the phone. I believe his name is Karon. I've seen him before, an African American who seemed ok in person, but not too nice on the phone. I placed an order and asked for it to be repeated which he did, then he forgot all the condiments on the side and unions. It's okay, he forgot, but then he forgets the unions again that I had to call back. What infuriated me, was that he mentioned that the place is busy and he'll see if the unions could be delivered. WOW! I never received such a rude response. It ruined my appetite the attitude he gave and never an apology. Rushed me off and hung up. I never received the unions. This is a great place, but this experience was a true disappointment. Watch out placing your order with this man. Horrible. read more

I live nearby so decided to check out this place one day. I cannot, in my heart of hearts, recommend this place to you. It's just not good. I understand it has been here a long time and people in the neighborhood have an attachment to it, but objectively speaking, the food is bad. The steaks here are pretty thin and not tender. The chicken fingers are what they are. You can't mess them up that badly. The ribs, while cooked fine, were drowned in this really monotonous BBQ sauce that didn't do it any favors. The staff here were fine. You order at the front and pay before getting your food. The decor is really weird and reminds me of a European country style home rather than a BBQ restaurant. Been coming here for as long as I can remember (10+ years now) and it's always been good. My family always gets the special and it's so good, such great portions, and my grandma especially loved the baked potato. The workers are friendly and are bilingual. So apparently I have been spending a lot of time in El Barrio. Well, here is another popular restaurant in the area offering up American comfort food at low prices for the masses. I opted for a half BBQ chicken which I took with baked potato, cole slaw, and garlic bread. The sides were regrettable in their own unique ways. The "liquid butter" on the potato just made it too salty and made me wonder what the hell liquid butter is. The garlic bread was not grilled, and was splotchy in appearance -- I didn't like it. The chicken was prepared to order though, and I did like that. The BBQ sauce was simple and traditional, but it married well with the meat. My selection of dark meat was moist and tender, and I enjoyed it. For $6.99, the portions are incredibly large, so it is definitely a bargain. The order line moves quick and the food comes out quick as well so no need to wait long, the perfect place for lunch and after work dinner rush. This is a real meal steak, without any uptight setting for the real folks. I wandered into Pee Dee's late one Sunday while walking home from Target. I was deeply craving home cooking. From the street, the restaurant appears to be a takeout establishment. Once inside the door, you find that it has a decent amount of seating; basic tables and chairs. The ambience is unremarkable. The serving setup is a cafeteria style, where you grab a tray and then ask for portions of meat, side dishes and dessert, and then sit at your table to eat. I bought a steak dinner with potatoes and greens. Cooked to order is always preferable for steak, but was not an option here. You just get whatever's off the grill. The steak that I was served was overcooked and tough, and pretty much tanked the whole meal. I visited several months ago, and have never been back. I have been bringing friends, coworkers, and even strangers into Pee Dee's for three years now, and though I had to cut back on the large portions (trying to watch my figure is what I tell the folk) every month or so I find myself in desperate need of a nice juicy steak or burger, with a baked potato, and some coleslaw. It's a kind of like a hybrid between a diner and Boston Market style ordering. Walk in and grab a tray and slide down the line as you order. Stop #1: Order the star of your meal. Usually the meat of choice. They have flame grilled, burgers, steaks, ribs, chicken (half, quarter, wings). I love the whole fire-grilled aspect of PeeDee's. I usually get a nice BBQ'd chicken with a baked potato and a side salad. The food offered here is definitely on the heavy side, I mean it is a "steakhouse" but recently they've been offering salads as entrees with grilled chicken/steak/seafood etc.. Speaking of seafood - Pee Dee's has a nice variety! Crab legs, shrimp, lobster, galore! In-between the grill and the next stop they have desserts lined up (jell-O, cuts of different cakes, puddings, all premade I'm sure. Stop #2: Slide on down to chose the side dishes. Well honestly, the sides are always questionable... don't know if they're made from a box or in house. They have mac and cheese, rice, greens, mashed or baked potatoes, corn, to name a few. Stop #3: Still here? Okay, so slide on down to the salad or coleslaw option. That's really all there is to offer at this spot haha! 4 dressings: bleu, french, ranch, and one other. They wanted to charge me 34+ dollars for a lunch combo. Literally was chicken, a few shrimp, and yellow rice with a tiny side "salad" of iceberg lettuce. No thanks. There's a great FRESH seafood place right next door, which I found out also makes lunch specials from their daily fresh catch - for 12 dollars. I took my wife to this place in pursuit for a new steak house to enjoy and was greatly disappointed. We both had Steak dinners - my wife had the BIG daddy which should be named the Small daddy they say 13 ounces but after cooking she was lucky to have a 10oz steak. I had the 22 oz T bone steak - both meals came with huge baked potatoes (there way of making up for the small steaks) and a salad along with the worst garlic bread I have ever tasted. The garlic bread tasted like it was from the freezer and reheated like you get from the supermarket. The salad was not fresh and the French dressing was so watered down it took away the entire taste, my wife had Italian dressing and was satisfied but agreed this was nothing to write home about. Service also sucked to be plain honest, the workers all of which are mexican were to busy having conversations about everything else except for the steaks they were making there were 2 boasting about how they just wanted to go home and get drunk. The only thing that tasted half way decent was the fountain soda. We went here on Halloween and I couldn't believe that they chose to hand out candy in the middle of the restaurant causing so much distraction that paying customers had to doge children and parents as they ran by to and from the exit. Peedees has been open since I was a little girl and I'm not surprised there still open. I will choose this place over bbqs or Applebee's any day. For 4 plates I spent $80 and it was well worth it and a good price compared to the $120 I would usually spend in Bbqs. I always have left overs when I leave , they always pack the plate. I live a block from this location and have been frequenting this steakhouse for many years. With that said, the staff members know what I want when I come in the door. A few days ago I placed my regular order and went outside to place a phone call. When my food was done, I went in to pay and noticed that my food cost $7 MORE than my normal tab... Accident, right?
