Cute little pizza + daiquiri shop in Gretna. I had a craving for pizza and decided to stop in after a walk (hush, lol). We thought they might do it by the slice, but you have to buy the whole pie which was no biggie. On the day we came, they were running a special on their large specialty pizzas, so that's what we got! We also grabbed a daiquiri for while we waited. They quoted us about 20 minutes for the pizza and it was promptly brought out. The servers/cashiers were incredibly friendly and helpful. The pizza was pretty darn tasty. We got the "classic American" which was like a traditional supreme. The crust was thin and crispy, but not so thin that all the toppings came off when you lifted it. I enjoyed the sauce and cheese ratio as well. We also tried a daiquiri; margarita and strawberry mixed. It didn't taste super strong, but had a good flavor. I'd definitely put this place on my list for when you're in the area and need a snack. read more

Passing time as we were early for our destination we decided to visit this place right by the river. There's plenty of seating, there's a few TV's in the room and huge side room. Walk in and sit wherever you please. The cheesy bread sounded good on paper but was a little disappointing when served. Bread is not the worst I've eaten but, as you can see all around the corners are burnt a little and pretty hard. The marinara sauce is ok. The pizza is a little smaller than I expected but it was good. Definitely didn't lack any toppings but being called the meat lovers pizza I would have thought they also had other kinds of meats. Cooked perfectly also. I paid $22 for the Blue Moon draft, appetizer and pizza. Not a bad deal I don't guess, 3 stars is too little but 4 stars is too many. I wouldn't go out of my way for this spot, but I wouldn't be disappointed if it was the only thing. read more

I came for the homemade sauce. thinking other menu items would be well prepared. the sauce was way too sweet. the salad was accompained with a gloppy mayonnaise bluecheese dressing. this is a bare minimum effort restaurant. nonetheless they seem to enjoy a healthy clientele. it was a disappointment after the well written hype. read more

This spot has a massive menu selection, maybe even too many items. It seems they really haven't found their niche for the menu yet. They are also connected with the neighboring restaurant Thanh Thanh. The fries and wings are a good passerby pop in spot if your hungry and in the area. No frills, and there's not anything in particular for you to go out of your way to select. The restaurant is very clean and extremely busy around dinner time. The location is in the "Old Gretna" area near the river front. This area is known for taking care of their local businesses. The location alone is charismatic and has a romantic feel especially for an evening stroll after your bite. Definitely a reason to visit this spot on a sunset evening and dinner for two. read more

This is a great little pizza place in Historic Gretna. Their sauce is on the sweeter side but we love that it's not the same as every other pizza place around. They have thin crust which isn't too floppy or burnt, just right. The service is great, their pasta is good and their servers are lovely. My son and I frequent this spot and I never thought to write a review until I saw these horrible reviews that made no sense. I grew up in the Northeast so I don't take my pizza lightly. I love this hole in the wall pizza place ! I only discovered it a few years ago because of someone living on the Westbank ! It's located in the heart of Gretna right by the river. The service is always spectacular, and food is always delicious! We always prefer to eat there and not take it to go because to me personally it tastes so different when you get it delivered. Plus I'd rather be there eating enjoying the ambiance. We recently went there on a Friday night and We brought our 3 month old. He seemed to enjoy himself. They offer high chairs so having a child there is no issue at all. Prices are very reasonable, pizza is excellent! My favorite is the Huey p. Wow. Horribly disappointing. The best part was the ice cold beer. Even though the waitress sloshed it all over the floor and table and never came back to clean it up. I did her job for her. Now granted I am a lover of Chicago style pizza. I even adore New York style on occasion. Ok no lies I will eat pizza every day of the week if it comes with an ice cold beer. Friday night pizza and beer sounded good. Did I mention the beer was ice cold? That is because I try to harp on the positive. Ok for the pizza, WTF!!!! When did pizza come served on burnt matzah? No sauce? What kind of BS!!! Is this? Seriously? I ate the toppings. Hamburger was ground to a mush. Amd the rest was as unremarkable as the crust. Was it worth the price tag? Nope. Will I make the trek to come back? The beer was ice cold, But probably not. The waitress came and caught me taking pictures of the pizza and Croat asked me if everything was ok and if I would like a box. I pointed out half the pizza was burnt. I would not need a box. As I was not going to eat the burnt half. She said ok. Now?! A good waitress would have asked management about a discount. But not this one. So another customer lost over low quality food and poor customer service. But hey at least the beer was cold. read more

I am surprised at the low ratings for Huey P's. My family and I had a great experience here. We were a party of 16, so right off the bat you think you're going to have some issues with service. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our food and pizzas were ALL served within about 5 minutes of each other, and we were just one of two large groups in the place that night. The servers (one was named Kim, I think) was even kind enough to give us separate checks for each family unit. My group ordered two of the Muffaletta pizzas, and I thought they were one of the better pizzas I've ever had. I'm on a mission to find them here where I live, or I'm going to have to figure out a way to make them at home! I don't normally care for muffaletta sandwiches, because there's a little too much bread for me, but on a thin crust pizza, it's delicious! We got ours with only olive oil, no red sauce! I also had the pina colada daiquiri. Oh My Goodness! It was so good and very "potent", if you catch my drift! So great service, great food, and great drinks! What's not to love?!?!? read more

Huey P's is one of the restaurants in downtown Gretna that are all within walking distance. Parking is kinda easy and before or after, you can walk around town there or hangout by the levee. The pizza is a thin crust type, but the crust is buttery and more crispy than floppy. They have a bunch of varieties and if you go on Mondays, they have a one price special on all pizzas. I like them for sure. The sandwiches and pasta dishes are good too. I haven't had any problems with the staff ever. I have come for lunch too and they were fast and we got in and out with just enough time to keep everyone in the office happy. They can accommodate a big group as well. I havent been when there is a wait either. Its something to try out, might be your favorite? read more

Well I wish I could say it was as good as the rating average but it wasn't good at all. The pizza was okay for thin crust but everything else we ordered was terrible. The chicken Parmesan was so over cooked it was stringy and hard to cut. The red sauce was also way too sweet. The shrimp and grits were so saturated in sauce it was intense and very over powering. The chicken wrap was okay, but was a lot disappointed fries were not an option just salad or wavy chips. We also ordered a muffuletta and it wasn't ready until we all had all finished our meals. Only nice thing about this place is the frosty beer glasses. Sucks leaving a restaurant hungry to then hit up Burger King. read more

Food was good and fresh and service was ok. Waitress could have more personable. Closing time is confusing because different sites and front door have different times listed. 8:30 pm or 9:00 pm? I am giving this restaurant a 2 because they started cleaning up with a very strong smelling cleaner, perhaps ammonia, much too long before closing time. The smell was strong and my eyes started to burn and my husband said it was making him feel nauseous. Took a new drink to go and got outside for fresh air. Thin crust pizza. Big slices. Monday deal was 13$ large. Spinach artichoke dip was about $8.50 covered in the same cheese as the pizza. It was pretty good and hit the spot. Overall it's nothing gourmet or to write home about but it IS a good pizza place and wasn't all greasy. Ingredients were fresh and overall food was tasty. I wish i could give this establishment 0 stars because of the staffs lack of professionalism and also care they would take off their mask repeatedly when not needed to as well i would like to mention that the waitress's are continually on their phone and on the iPad with no care as customers come in and they don't hire professional staff they hire high school kids that don't care and also my waitress which i grabbed her name "salena" was very unprofessional and slow with my service and could not seem to comprehend anything we told her it seemed like she wasn't an adult or acting like one the whole time she was unprofessional and rude to my group of friends. This place is obviously family owned, which is fantastic. The pizza isn't bad and they have beer on tap. The staff is very attentive and eager to please. My only complaint would be the prices. I KNOW that it's a small place, so they have to make some profit, but the prices are a little steep and you feel like you are getting ripped off, unless you are ordering a large. Definitely go, but know that you will be paying a little more for pizza than usual. read more

Ordered from here quite a few times while my ship was docked at NOLA. Safe to say they make a great pizza. Had the lasagna once which was also pretty good. Their deals on the pizzas on Mondays and Tuesdays makes it even more tempting to order from there. Haven't sat down and eaten there but so far as just the food is concerned, they do a good job. I'd really love to get behind this place. Nice little restaurant. Quaint old Gretna neighborhood. Thin crust....but the effort really underperforms. Its an INTERESTING flavor and one that is unique for sure, but it doesn't qualify as "good pizza". Tried the famous "Who Dat" pizza and the first thing I thought of on the first bite was a distinct flavor of Hamburger Helper Cheesburger (whatever it is). Sweet sweet tomato paste, salty 'cheese' flavor, and tangy sweetness of onions. The dish was certainly salty (zesty flavor). The ingredient's quality was meh (the jalepenos added the needed kick to counter the sugar of the tomato paste and the heavy saltiness of the 'cheese' and whatever seasoning was used for the beef. It certainly had a distinct taste, just not one that impressed you with quality. If you want thin crust, you're much better off with Theo's. Westbank pizza? I'm no fan of Mo's, but I wouldn't say that Huey P's has skin in the game for a ranking on the Westbank pizza. read more

You know what, Huey P, unlike the bridge, you get 5 stars! We had our first experience there last night and it was delightful. Great interior design, complete with tons of TVs on various stations, cold beer on tap (even Covington Strawberry!), daily specials including $10 bottles of wine for "Winey Wednesday"... am I missing something? Oh, right, the food. I love thin crust pizza, and I know that's a personal opinion, but Huey P's hits the spot. They have the standard toppings, as well as some unique ones like avocado (yes, avocado, and the California pizza is definitely on my need-to-try list). Also, THANK YOU Huey P for using fresh mushrooms, unlike my other 2 favorite pizza joints, Mo's and Brooklyn. The sauce is delicious with a tiny bit of a spicy kick to it (mild, but it's there). Service was friendly and efficient. Drink refills kept coming. We enjoyed our garlic bread and the pizza. Honestly, $17 for a large isn't bad, and I am definitely going to take advantage of their $10 large pizzas on Monday/Tuesday. Oh, and they have a ton of non-pizza options, including chicken and waffles (I don't know why you would combine chicken with waffles, but ok...). They definitely have options for anyone who, for whatever reason, doesn't like pizza. read more

Went twice. Won't bother going back. As regulars of Thanh Thanh next door, I thoroughly anticipated the arrival of Huey P's pizzeria. The prices are steep, the pizza is ONLY available in thin crust (WTF? This isn't Naples, and the thin crust doesn't taste like it's Naples), and the service left me wanting much more in our second & final visit. A meatball sub was served so cold that the cheese wasn't melted on it. I sent it back and it came back microwaved! The bread was like rubber and the cheese still wasn't melted yet! At this point I gave up. The wait staff didn't even have the sense to ask why a nearly whole sandwich was left on the table with a single bite taken and why we were not interested in having it to go. This was on the second and final visit. The first was simply a mediocre experience. Thanh Thanh (while still slightly over priced) is next door and I would highly recommend it for both American breakfast and Asian Fusion for lunch and dinner. They are owned by the same family so I'm shocked that the service/food prep was so radically different. The wait staff was friendly, although wholly unconcerned beyond the need to be friendly. If you want pizza that isn't as thin as the credit card you'll need to pay for it, then try D'Italy's on Manhattan or Olive Branch cafe in Marrero at Lapalco & Barataria. Both offer far more pizza for the $ and their crust doesn't rival a saltine cracker in thickness and texture. I much prefer supporting locally owned establishments, but Huey P's won't be on my list. read more

I've been here before to dine-in. But we got take-out the other night for the first time. I was less than impressed. Our pizza was cold. I can understand room temp, because we did have to drive home with it; but cold? The Garlic Cheese bread that we ordered was stale french bread with spirnkled cheese on top that was burnt. No flavor at all. The pizza too was a little overvooked. We also got a ceasar salad. There was a really good amount of salad for what was considered a small, but the dressing was really bland, not what I would consider Caesar dressing. This is a spacious, comfortable and adorable joint located in Old Gretna. I always get their fried chicken wings as an appetizer and their BBQ chicken pizza to share. Their wings are amazing! Tastes like the real deal and not like the frozen stuff you get at other places. They're always steaming hot, juicy, full of flavor and the batter is always fresh and crispy. Comes with about 10 per order (could even double as an entree) with ranch and celery on the side. The pizzas are thin crust and full of toppings. Note: they do have different lunch specials and pizza deals on certain days. I've never had to wait very long for their food either. They're fairly light on the sauce, so if you're a sauce fiend, you'll want to order extra sauce. Not crowded on a Thursday night. Our waitress was super attentive and took our order promptly. There are at least 6 flat screens so it is a good place to watch a game while you grab a bite! Never have I eaten in or been to the back room, but apparently there is one. The garlic bread, served on a small French bread, is great to start with. The pizza is thin crust. I am a thin crust fan, so right on Huey P's! They use really good cheese. This statement sounds weird, but if you are a pizza lover you get what I'm saying. Great Pizza in the beautiful Downtown setting a large open Free parking lot across the street that's free on weekends. The pizza is good also the chicken wing appetizer Is great along with the salads. Daiquiris are a must try, you can even get one to go any walk around old Gretna or get a pizza and daiquiri and go sit up on the levee and watch the Mississippi River traffic. read more
