My rating is due to making an appointment only to arrive and the front desk said my appointment is not in their system. However I received confirmation texts confirming my appointment and reminders leading into the appointment. When they also took my insurance again, to see if they could squeeze me in. I was informed that they don't accept my insurance. Which I provided over the phone when I made the appointment. The office seems like it is stuck in the 1980's, front desk is working on an old computer system. Save your time and energy and find a different dentist office. read more

Just had to update my review on the hygienist. Mihn is the man!! I have had many ah hygienist in my day, never one that can hold a candle to Mihn!! He takes his time approximately one hour to clean my teat and no pain...I mean none...I was falling asleep in the chair. Mihn has been working for Hughes Dental group since he graduated from hygienist school 10 years ago. I've been going to Hughes Dental for over 10 years, and it's always been okay. I must say that I wasn't very happy about how long they were closed for COVID initially, and what things were like when they opened back up. At my last appointment in August, they were not letting anyone wait in the waiting room (which my doctor's office does just at much lower capacity), and you had to wait outside, in the heat and smoke. No one communicates this before you come in so you just stand outside and it doesn't feel any safer than inside with people crowded on a small balcony, but just hot and smoggy. I was supposed to come to get a crown appointment before my move out of the region, but they failed to let me know it was two appointments, and kept making assumptions that I should have known, even though no one mentioned it and I wasn't booked for two appointments by their staff. Dr. Marks was helpful and sensed my frustration and offered to clean my teeth so I wouldn't have to come back for a separate appointment, which I very much appreciated. Overall my experience has been fine here for many years, but my fillings haven't lasted as long as expected and since I've moved I've been much happier with more modern practices. I would recommend they start modernizing and adopting email (or even text) as a primary form of communication. I hate, hate, HATE going to the dentist! In the past, I found that each time I went, they always found something wrong and *always* needed to do some work. For that very reason, I tried to avoid going to the dentist as much as possible, BUT taking really good care of my teeth so that I never had a reason to go. But having Dr. Loomer as my dentist has erased all of that fear and anxiety! I love going to him as he's always very patient with all my questions (and trust me...I have PLENTY!) and he takes the time to explain any procedure that he does. I've also seen Dr. San Filippo (Endodontist) for my root canal. Whoever said root canals are supposed to be painful have never seen that man! This is a LONG overdue review for Dr. Marks at Hughes Dental Group. It all started 11 years ago, when my child who is now an adult, needed a dentist. It was more complicated than it sounds! My child has been diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition and is confined to a motorized wheelchair since kindergarten. We were turned down by many dentist office as they were worried to take on his case. We were told to sedate him for regular cleaning which didn't work for us due to weak lungs. Finally, after calling and taking him to several offices and then turned down, we found our amazing Dr. Marks. He said that he along with his awesome assistant Rosie will treat my child. Since then, wet go to Dr. Marks and each time he personally cleans my son's teeth. He is extremely patient and doesn't recommend unnecessary procedures. Just today, we were there after almost 2 years as we didn't go see him during the pandemic. He was so patient and cleaned my son's teeth with great detail. Not only that, he said that as there were no cavities, he doesn't need fluoride treatment. I just cannot say enough great things about Dr. Marks and Rosie! They are both SUPERSTARS and make a PERFECT DUO! I am so so grateful for Dr. Marks as without him, my son wouldn't have a dentist for 11 years. We have moved really far from South bay but we happily make the trips to his office twice a year for my son as I don't trust anyone else other than Dr. Marks with my son's needs. read more

Today, my little boy and I had his 2nd dentist visit. Fortunately, both visits have gone so well, my son says he actually likes going to the dentist! Here's why... Dr Mark was the dentist we saw for our first visit. Another mommy friend recommended him, as she takes her toddler to see him. Dr Mark was so kind and comfortable. He walked us thru all the instruments and let him play with the suction and other tools. Because of that, my son isn't afraid when they are suctioning and working in his mouth. For this first visit, we just did a light inspection. It was a 'get to know your dentist' and make sure there's no immediate concerns type of visit. I wanted to wait to do the first cleaning so that the first visit would be a good one. Fast forward half a year... Jaymie was a a great hygienist! Dr Mark and Lorena at the counter are kind, too. My son's cleaning went super well... no anxiety, fear or trouble. I'm so happy about this because I was always terrified of the dentist when I was a kid (and kinda still today). Hughes Dental Group isn't near my house but they're definitely worth the drive! We'd highly recommend them to all of our friends, especially the little ones. See ya there! read more

After having a couple of less than stellar experiences with a previous Bay Area dentist, I was apprehensive about being in the dentist chair. This office has made me feel comfortable again. Dr. Brownridge has worked on my teeth a couple of times now and I think he's a class act. "I'm a conservative dentist. I don't believe in just pushing crowns to push them. I'm of the school of if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm so happy there are dentists like this still out there. The office staff is one of the most friendly and easy groups of people to work with. My hygienist is friendly- no annoying up-selling. I don't think I really demand much out of a dentist. I just don't like feeling ripped off trying to get me to have unnecessary procedures like some of the other dentist offices I've visited. This office, and the one I used to go to when I lived in Omaha, NE are one of the best. read more

This facility is good for young and older alike. The staff won our hearts by just making the experience very positive from start to finish. My cleaning was handled with excellent care by Dental Hygienist Erin, who not only was very gentle and calm through the procedure. But she inspired me to take further care of my teeth at home. Thanks to her first-hand knowledge and excellent conversation, I have taken a big interest in taking better care of my teeth. My son really enjoys coming to this facility because the staff are so friendly and carry great smiles, they make him feel right and home and made sure that he was comfortable in a room filled with many strange people. Don't do it. Billing is all messed up and you will get slammed with a massive bill 1.5 years after service. I got a crown- it "failed"because the work is SHOTTY! And I got double billed. This is just the icing on the cake. I had two separate occasions where I made appointments that were never entered into the computer because they are all too busy gossiping about their life to actually do their jobs. She has agreed to work with me- but let's face it. I shouldn't even have to pay for this. I am a hard working mother of four. I never imagined a dentist to be like a little mob coming after you for money you shouldn't be responsible for. Be careful. I even had dual insurence and still have to pay. read more

A simple tooth filling, took dentist brownridge 3 tries. Meaning in one session he drilled/filled 3 times for a simple filling. And, At the end he managed to damage/cracked my tooth that I need to get a root canal now. When I went back and complained few days later, the owner , dentist Hughes said that teeth break/crack and took no responsibility! The interesting part is dentist brownridge hands shakes so much that he has no business to practice but obviously Hughes dental have no issues with that. I am writing this review a month after the incident to make sure this review is fair and it is not based on emotions. Bottom line, Hughes dental with the help of dentist Brownridge damaged a heathy tooth and took no responsibility! Go ahead and take a chance with them. read more

We are a multi generational family spanning over 40 years of using both Dr Marks and Dr Hughes (and his father retired Hughes Sr.). We had all ventured a few times only due to moves, universities, careers, but everyone of us ditched our ventures out right back into this office. No one has better control of their instruments, professionalism and attention to detail. Their office is straight outta the 60's but for dentistry you're looking for skill and ability to calm me in a vulnerable position. Only con is that you need to be firm with the billing department especially if you have dual insurance many times we go back and forth with this over the years. Double check with your insurance. Also bathrooms are clean but need a remodel and are super tiny. Maybe its the building. Also I would love to take the littlest ones in our family but they do not have fancy screens/ movies distraction stuff so wait until they are older if they have anxiety. I just want to start by saying that this place has no professionalism. The dentist here do not know what they're doing. Not only that but they don't know how to bill or have good customer service. I payed what I had to pay, and months later after the service has been completed I get a bill that says that I owe them money because what they charge me for was only an estimate for the service. When I told them I would not return for any service they said that's fine go ahead and do that it doesn't matter. They said that my profile will be deleted out of their system. Good luck finding parking since they have a very small and shared parking lot. read more

I've been going to Hughes Dental Group for years and cannot recommend them highly enough. Their doctors, assistants and front office staff are awesome - excellent service, personable, etc. They care about their patients, and go the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of. The accounting team is straightforward, at times frazzled, and less than happy with the runaround from insurance companies. They submit service proposals to insurance companies, get pre-authorization, spend years chasing partial payment from the insurance company, are stuck billing the patient, which they don't want to do. It's not uncommon, and it's not fun. Dr. Mark and the Hughes team consistently do a great job. Their dental work and service is excellent. That is worth full price. read more

I only went in for a consultation today regarding getting a veneer and so I didn't get any work done, but I was extremely impressed with my experience so far. Dr Marks and his assistant Rosie were extremely helpful and friendly. I felt very welcomed and cared for, and they took the time to explain my options and gave me some advice to minimize my gum line recession. Of the 4 dentists I've seen in the last several years, Dr Marks has made the best impression. I'll update again for my cleaning in 6 months, and again after my veneer treatment is done, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how well they compare to my first impression! read more

Our family has been taken care of by Dr. Marks at Hughes Dental for over 20 years now, and he has consistently done an excellent job. He's incredibly patient, great with kids and gives honest diagnoses and treatments. Years before coming to Dr. Marks, we were treated by a dentist who recommended unnecessary and expensive treatments. Dr. Marks worked with integrity and managed our dental care well. I recently went for teeth cleaning during the pandemic, and the waiting room has been arranged to maintain social distancing. Staff is equipped with PPE, as expected, and also, air purifiers have been put in every room. Bottom line, this is a very, very good dental clinic. I highly recommend it, and I've been going there for years. My personal experience with the dentists has been with Dr. Loomer and Dr. Go. Both are top-of-the-line, professional, and very friendly dentists. I can't think of a better dental office in the SF Bay Area. One of their hygienists, Minh, is the best dental hygienist I have ever encountered in my life. During a regular cleaning, he actually got my teeth whiter than the time that I had a Zoom whitening treatment (he got in between the teeth somehow, and got the stains out). I am very impressed. If you are looking for a dental clinic, look no further. This place (with the above-mentioned people) is the cat's meow! I'm in my Sixties now and have seen a fair number of dentists. If you are looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Marks. He has a lot of experience and knows all the smart things that only experience can bring. He and his assistant Rosie are fun to talk with and they are always willing to explain what they are doing. Dr Marks is sensitive to my sensitivity to pain. He also understands to keep costs down, especially when you don't have insurance. I always leave feeling he puts my health and finances first. I use Mark Stewart as my hygenist. He is great also. He knows all the latest techniques, and he is really funny. read more

Dr. Brownridge is a great dentist! He has fixed some fillings that another dentist did that gave me problems. He also put on a crown that turned out great. He's friendly, takes his time and clearly knows what he's doing. The reason I'm finally writing is because of my new FAVORITE hygienist of all time -- Mark! He's the man to see. Besides Dr. B. of course! :) He knows what he's doing and beyond hilarious. I literally laughed through my entire appointment, yet my teeth are clean! He definitely made my day better. All of the staff is very nice and they even got me in today for a filling replacement since I was there. The only downside is the office is pretty outdated. I have always resisted going to the dentist...a lot of bad experiences during my teenage years! However, I no longer dread teeth cleanings...I actually look forward to them now that I found Hughes Dental!!! Yes, I did just say "look forward". My sister referred me to Dr. Drexel at Hughes Dental last year. Teeth cleaning there is very detailed, easy, thorough, I almost fell asleep the first time I went there! A few appointments later, it was decided that I needed a "deep clean" (under the gum line). Minh, the dental hygienist, was so gentle (I received 4 shots) and communicative about the process...it was completely discomfort free. I even taught a yoga class 1 hour after it was done!!! Just the other day, I had another dental hygienist, Mark - super funny, pleasant, very informative about preventative care - they really try and educate their patients about good oral hygiene so that you don't have to see them as often. I appreciate this. Dr. Drexel is very kind and professional. In fact, the entire office is very professional. The people who process your insurance are honest, up front about cost and what your insurance will and will not cover, and professional too....such a pleasant experience. I can not say enough good things. IF everyone could have consistent, excellent, professional service at their dentist's office like I've had at Hughes Dental, I doubt there would be any fear around teeth cleanings, etc... read more

I am a very difficult patient for dentists, because of the severe gag reflex issue. I used to be a patient of Dr. Derby and then of Dr. Drexel after Dr. Derby's retirement, and the doctors and hygienists understand my gag reflex issue very well. X-ray is a torture for me, but there are a few hygienists, who manage to handle my issue. When my regular hygienists cannot handle my issue, the ones who can handle it replace them. I still sometimes gag, but they patiently manage the situation. However, I wonder why they do not try to use nitrous oxide gas to prevent my gag reflex issue. When I asked one of hygienists, she said, "It wouldn't help". But I know lots of people with gag reflex issue, who went through the complicated dental procedures without any problem thanks to nitrous oxide gas. read more

I have been a patient for over 7 years. Dr. Marks is so professional. I have complete confidence in him - both his knowledge and experience. He's great with fillings, and crowns. He takes his time, no rushing. When I'm in the dentist chair I feel like I'm his top priority. The technician making my crown visited the office to personally check the crown color with my surrounding teeth. Rosie is a terrific dental assistant: so warm and friendly. I go every 6 months and see Bonnie for teeth cleaning which has been a veteran at this office, She is very thorough and always has helpful advice to keep your teeth in tip top shape. (I need to, floss every day! ! !) After the cleaning, Dr. Hughes comes by for a few minutes and does a final checkup on the teeth. He has a lot of experience in this field as his father originally started up this office... Your reward at the end is a toothbrush, a traveler sized sample of toothpaste and some dental floss. Got one of my crowns done here. They couldn't get the proper shape right and left me with inflamed gums for months, I asked them to replace it which they did (after a different dentist informed me that the job was not right) despite them replacing it they still didn't get it right and left me with years of inflamed gums. Finally I went to a different dentist and got it replaced and the new dentist temp crown fits better than what they put in my mouth. I'm very very very very disappointed in the lack of care this office does. If your lab or you can't get the job done then solve the issue. Don't dismiss the patients complaints! After I complained a second time telling them that it still hurts they said that they can't do anything about it and that it's due to the shape of my tooth. If that's the case then how come the other dentist was able to do a better job?! I'm pissed and frustrated with this office! Don't come here. Run the other direction. read more

I've had a fairly pleasant experience over the past 6 years. They open late and offer Saturday appointments. Because it is a larger facility, making last minute appointments is usually okay. Given that I am kind of obsessed with my dental health, my visits are usually contained to the regular cleanings and no extensive dental work. I have had various hygienists and they are all very thorough and professional. I typically only see Dr. Loomer for the last 5 minute of each visit, so I can't say much about him. Keep in mind that there is a large group of hygienists & dentists at this facility. I've referred friends who had horrible experiences because the people they got appointments with were not very good (i.e. chipped teeth, pain, etc.). Try to read through the other reviews and request specific hygienists & dentists. read more

Please be careful when you are listening to the woman in the office and the insurance information. The person who is in charge of billing told me that the Dentist wanted to put in a stronger crown then usual. When I asked about the price she said she checked with the insurance and at the most it would cost $50.00 so I agreed. Then I got the work done and a few weeks later I got a bill for $725.00!! When I called them they wouldn't return my calls, they wouldn't return my emails, instead they sent me to collections! This was the 2nd time this "mistake" has happened at this dentist office to me. I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Go for a number of fillings, a night guard, and dental evaluation. I am happy to have found a dentist that is not only highly skilled, friendly, and intelligent, but is also extremely trustworthy. I know she isn't trying to do work that isn't medically necessary. Everything she has done for me seems prudent and appropriate and has left me feeling better about my teeth. Her assistant, Lorie, is also extremely friendly, comforting, and skillful. The staff is very helpful and the service is all that I need. I also had an amazing cleaning from a gentleman whose name I can't recall. I will happily work with him again. The office itself is a bit outdated but the equipment is up-to-date and the talent of Dr. Go shines through to make my experience at Hugh's Dental an excellent one. I have been coming to Hughes dental group for over 15 years now. I usually get seen by Dr marks. He is the most gentle, caring, meticulous doctor I have ever encountered! I'm never nervous when I know I'm getting seen by him. His assistant, Rosie is such a sweetheart & very informative. She always makes sure I follow up with my appointments & keeps me on my toes about my aftercare, otherwise a friendly scolding is sure to take place on my next visit! Today I had my wisdom tooth pulled by Dr Brownridge. During the procedure, it felt like he was very confident in his work & knew exactly what he was doing. I thought it was adorable when he would quietly praise his own work & say "darn that's beautiful!" Lol. I felt completely safe & taken care of in his chair. I felt absolutely NO PAIN at all. Just quite a bit of pressure which is to be expected & completely normal. I'm so glad I'm able to be seen by both Dr marks, his assistant Rosie & Dr Brownridge. The people at Hughes Dental are excellent. They are very nice both on the phone and in person. They are very thorough with care; each station is hooked up to a computer so they can pull up records and show patients their records right away. Each time I have been there, they have gone through each tooth, and then dictated if they had any bleeding. They answered all of my questions about teeth care and were very patient with me.
