This is hard to score. It was black Friday and we just wanted a quick something that wasn't a burger. We were at Fresh Thyme and to avoid the crowds in the parking lot we tried to escape from the front. We happen upon HuHot and a parking spot. Bingo. So we decided why not? It's a fill your bowl, sauce your bowl and they cook it. Just meh. Not a large selection of items, I tried one piece of the beef and pork which were tough they had run out of chicken and I didn't want to wait so just ok. They got an extra star because of amazing customer service. The hostess was extremely helpful and when informed of my husband's food allergy bent over backwards to ensure his safety. They will even take items from storage that haven't been exposed to possible cross-contamination on the ingredients bar and fill your special order bowl. It doesn't stop there when my husband went to have his bowl cooked the cook asked him if he had cleaned the grill well enough for hubby to feel safe! Two well-known and strangely well-regarded chain restaurants have poisoned my husband. Luckily on the first taste, he could feel something wasn't right so no ER visit was required. I now taste everything before he eats. Last thing It was very inexpensive much much cheaper than I expected and for me, and maybe you, who like a bowl of vegetables and a starch it worked out nicely. read more

We went here for lunch. We loved it. The grill is in the center of the restaurant. There is a buffet of fresh foods and sauces to choose from. Make your own combination of ingredients. Then take it up to the grill, and they grill it up for you as you watch. We loved this concept, because we got to choose each ingredient we wanted in our combo. It was so good, we went up twice. My first visit. I was impressed with the brightly decorated, attractive dining room. It was spacious and clean. I was seated at a smaller booth, which was comfortable as I was dining alone. I arrived at approximately 3:30. The restaurant was definitely not crowded, only diners at a few other tables. Quite a few diners did come in around 4 or 4:30. I headed over to pick up a bowl and fill it with items for the grill. The food was well organized and I appreciated that everything was labeled. There was a large selection of meats and seafood. The vegetable selection was lacking though. I like a bowl with mostly vegetables, and there weren't that many to choose from. The asparagus and corn were frozen, and the fresh broccoli was not fresh. I tried to select the freshest of the broccoli but it still tasted old and bitter after cooking. I liked the selection of sauces, as well as the suggestions. I tried a milder recipe the first time, and when I made a smaller second bowl o tried some of the spicier sauces. The grill employees were friendly and did a nice job. I didn't have to wait to have my food grilled but I can see how if the restaurant was busy it might take some time. Overall a good first visit. HuHot is a great spot...for a buffet. I am not a huge buffet fan, but HuHot is great. It's impossible to make a bad bowl, as you put whatever you want, and however much you want of your bowl, and 5 minutes later, it's ready! The restaurant is spacious and has plenty of seating. We stopped by for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Great customer service. It's an all you can eat buffet where you put all the ingredients you want in bowls and the chefs will cook it fairly quickly. I wish there were some more options for veggies, like edamame, snow peas, etc. The sauce station is a bit awkward when you're trying to put the sauce into your bowl. We were in town visiting our college kid and he wanted some Asian/Chinese food. After some research, I came across a Yelp review and we decided to try it. For my son, you can't beat all you can eat grill. It is a good value. There is one large circular grill where there are a few chefs cooking 10 meals at a time. Based on our observations, people brought 2 bowls to cook on the grill to save time. There is a large variety of meats, vegetables and sauces to choose from to customize your meal. Delicious! If you don't want to do that, you can take a recipe card from the rack. It includes rice or tortillas with your meal. It is a pretty large restaurant so the wait to grill is longer at busy times. I like the concept of the restaurant but it was not executed well. The food quality was a bit low, the meats and meatballs are like made of flour, doesn't taste good. Also we heard it is an all you can eat and the waitress didn't notice us that we need to pay for the appetizer so we ordered. If you're concerned about allergens... they will give you a different colored bowl. No explanations. When I asked for clarification management claim the fda changed its standards. The fact is the FDA may have changed standards years ago and they haven't updated their signage since. All they have to do is put a small sticker or sharpie over the previous signage. There excuse is that they are waiting on signs they've ordered. But when i originally stated I have a gluten ALLERGY they could have explained ANYTHING to me about what is safe. Instead they argued and said nobody died from eating gluten. People do die from wheat allergies. And insane that there is such a lack of concern as this could hospitalize me. Other customers approached us afterward to express how they were going to complain after hearing how the manager responded to me. The food area was so messy and chaotic. Would not recommend if you have allergies or are vegetarian. Definitely not for vegans. Could see veggies being put on top of bowls with meat falling out of the bowls and back onto the line with the veggies. They were very good about cleaning the grill for allergies but they don't seem to care about cleanliness or labeling allergens/ingredients otherwise. read more

It wasn't busy, we were promptly greeted and seated. Got cokes all around, host asked if we wanted rice, we said yes. Told us we could go up whenever. We went and selected noodles, meat, veggies and sauce. There were recipe cards if you didn't know what you wanted, which was nice. They had lots of sauces to choose from; I got one that was supposed to be "kung pow" style. I took it to the grill, they cook in front of you and then give you a clean bowl with your cooked concoction. Went back to our table, rice wasn't there yet. The style of the restaurant is nice, with good lighting. Pretty much anything on the menu isn't worth getting in my opinion. I only recommend building your own meal. They have loads of options. Beef, pork, chicken, sausage, tilapia, mussels, egg, rice noodles, egg noodles, onion, zucchini, bean sprouts, potato, peas, corn, carrot, cabbage, broccoli, jalapeño, black beans, cilantro (to name a few lol) The worst part is when they're busy. They have made it 1 instead of 2 lines for building your meal so it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get your food unless they're not busy. It took me a half an hour to get back to my table for this trip. By that time, I didn't even want my food anymore -shrug- The grill guys didn't give a heck about speed. It would make more sense to have multiple lines to get people through faster. Less time spent up there crammed together makes for less germ spreading. If you aren't sure what to get, there are recipe cards to help. They have signs above all the sauce with flames to show how spicy it is. You can also have rice or tortillas brought to your table to have with your meal. Our server was kind, as well as the host. I just wish they cared more about being efficient. EDIT: in response to the owner response. Opening up both lines wouldn't further back up the grill than it already would be. It would keep the bowl fixing at a better pace and keep guests separated. Not to mention if I only want 3-4 different things in my bowl, I don't have to wait behind someone getting 10-15 things. We went for lunch on Sunday with one line open and the restaurant was completely full. Every time we have gone in the last few months, it has been on the weekend and there was only one line all the times we went. The grill guys were being very slow. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY! When I said I had a gluten allergy nothing was said about what was safe to eat I was just given a different colored bowl. The whole line was a mess of spilled food everywhere. Everything is miss marked. There were sauces marked with G and in another spot it listed only 3 sauces (different than some marked G) that were gluten free. I felt unsure so I asked for a manager and I was told by the manager that something about the law had changed and the sauces marked G were "gluten sensitive" and that they couldn't just change the signs. She actually said "no one's going to die from eating gluten." Nice to know they care about their customers... Everything was cross contaminated and very dirty and I couldn't eat more than a few bites cause I was so worried. Even a little bit can cause me to be unable to work or even leave the toilet for at least a week. I should've just left without eating. read more

This was my first time at HuHot. It was similar to BD's Mongolian Grill in setup and style. I liked this place better, though. Good food, good prices (though with drinks and an appetizer it becomes a bit pricy), good service. The place was kept clean, including on the buffet line. They had signs to use only one bowl at a time, yet when we went, there was another customer using two bowls (we were getting our food cooked at the same time two different times, no less), and no one said anything to him and the cook didn't even flinch over it. I found that kind of annoying. At least everyone was following the glove requirements. I tried some new to me ways of getting my noodle fix in and wasn't disappointed with either bowl I'd made up. With so many choices, I could come here every day for a month and try something different, and that's what makes places like this really cool to come to. I enjoyed it thoroughly. read more

I was a huge fan of BD's Mongolian grill when it was in Indy and was sad to see it go. I happened to be in a FB group and someone mentioned HuHot. I had to check it out! I met my mom for lunch there and we both enjoyed it. On our first bowls we stuck with the things we liked and were comfortable. The 2nd bowls were our experiments with sauces and veggies that we normally wouldn't get. This gave me all the previous Mongolian grill memories and happiness. If you're a Mongolian grill fan, you'll know just what to expect at HuHot. We dropped by for a birthday celebration recently, and were pleased by how accommodating the staff were, all done with a smile. We were there in the middle of a busy weekend lunch rush, and I was impressed with how they handled a full dining room. The overall impression was of a team of people who were good at what they do, and genuinely wanted their guests to enjoy themselves. The food selection was also on point. There's room for improvement, certainly - the meat was okay, but not great - but there were lots and lots of options, and the selection accommodated the vegans among us without a stretch. I ended up next to somebody who'd gotten mango - the one thing I have to be very careful of. I asked if they could give me a little extra space on the grill to ensure that I don't end up with something that might harm me. They graciously and immediately shifted into full allergy protocol, cleaning a section of grill multiple times, blocking off a section for me. The whole deal. When they had to do the whole thing three people later for somebody else, they didn't flinch, but were just as gracious as the first time. Overall, very positive experience. read more

We finally ate at HuHot, after seeing it many times, and it was good eats. It got a little busy around the food line, owed to large groups that showed up after us, but that's not the fault of the restaurant by any means. Had not been to HuHot since before Covid messed up all of our lives. It was really nice to come here once again. My sister and I visited this week for dinner. I love it that they have a lot of fresh vegetables as well as thin sliced chicken and pork. I always get the flat rice noodles. For the sauces at the end I wind up putting some of about everything, with special emphasis on the peanut sauce. Oh, yes, and they have Coke products. I am sure I will be back again soon! read more

The food was just ok. Perhaps due to my poor mixture of ingredients. Lol. My biggest problem with this place, is the cooks. Now don't get me wrong. I have no problems with people in general as I'm sure they are nice people. But neither cook that was on the grill were wearing hair restraints and both had hair hanging out the bottom of their hats. They were wearing masks, but no gloves. And the one cook had a bunch of funky beard hair hanging out of the bottom from under his mask just waiting for an opportunity to fall into someone's unsuspecting food. Needless to say it was pretty gross. I normally go up for 2 or 3 trips to the food bar but wasn't up to it. Didn't order anything from the menu and got the mix of meats, noodles, egg (nice addition) and sauces just what I wanted and just to clarify hot sauce is hot. Added a little wasabi and nuts on my meal and it was wonderful. Again, as before, $20 with tip is just a little high but it didn't seem to bother the rush of customers that came in this afternoon. I chose the pad thai noodles and did my best to recreate pad thai using a variety of vegetables and sauces. I got some inspiration from the recipe cards they provide. They charge you based on two sizes and you don't really know the size of your dish until it is cooked and put into a container. I ended up adding a lot of ingredients and it ended up being a large. I like this place, but my kids' absolute love it. Since the pandemic we have not been there. It was a daughter's birthday recently so we decided to try the carry-out per her request. On their website it was pretty straightforward - tick all the boxes of stuff you want. Pay on their site. Food ended up being delivered via DoorDash. Came faster than expected. My wife likes it. HuHot is a chain of American-style Mongolian Grill. The atmosphere is nice, and the grill cooks are efficient and entertaining with their bad jokes. The menu is more Asian-inspired than Asian authentic. The appetizers are standard Chinese light fare - egg rolls, crab rangoon, fried potstickers. The appetizers come with a sweet and sour sauce that has a heavy consistency but light in sweetness. It was very good. My wife licked the bowl clean. As in all Mongolian BBQ-type places, you have an array of meats and vegetables to choose from. There is also a huge number of sauces and oils to flavor your selections. There are some suggestions on how to use the flavorings, but for the first time diner it can be intimidating. HuHot also has a number of their own blends to use. You also get a choice of soup or salad. We had the egg drop soup, and I wasn't impressed. The egg was mostly just minced strands, and the broth didn't have much flavor. We were supposed to get rice, but it never materialized. Our server was pretty busy, though, so I can forgive that transgression. What I found amazing was the number of Asian international students that eat here. There are much better and less expensive Asian restaurants that are closer to campus. I have been hearing that Chinese are starting to prefer American-style Chinese because it is more flavorful. If you get a dessert, get the cheesecake rangoon. Not very Asian, but very delicious. My wife loves them. If you're looking for an authentic Mongolian BBQ, HuHot is not it. If you're looking for a fun place with a nice atmosphere, HuHot works. It is a bit pricy, at $45 for two adults with two sodas and sharing an appetizer for dinner. Lunch prices are a bit less. Bonus star for having the Coke Freestyle machine. read more

This place has really gone downhill. For $14.99 a person on Saturday night, you get: 1. A bathroom that smells like a dirty diaper, with a broken paper towel dispenser. No worries, they left the ginormous roll of paper towels on top of the "out of order" dispenser. 2. An odd playlist of 2000's pop, including hits such as TLC's "Scrubs" and some Savage Garden. Typical for your average "Mongolian grill" (insert eye roll here). 3. Very friendly employees who definitely deserve more than they're being paid. 4.
