I find great convenience and value in HUI Car Share, which I use on a weekly basis at minimum. Booking a vehicle is a breeze, and there is a selection of vehicles from which to choose based on budget and need. I also switched to HUI Car Share from ride share options like Lyft and Uber, because it is much cheaper, and I appreciate being more in control of my trip. When we were distraught with the fact that rental cars were depleted and Zip car was unavailable, we were thankful to have found Hui Car Share. We were skeptical about the reservation process as a deposit wasn't taken and fear for cancellation with no reason (that we experienced with Zip car), but we were delighted to know we had a car for the time we booked. It's a brilliant idea using your cell phone to control the opening and locking of doors on the car - no need for physical keys. Since we had a hybrid Toyota Prius, the mileage aspect was great, it could drive up to 200 miles and full-blown AC on 1/4 tank of gas. We had a problem with the gas card provided by Hui, but it wasn't a big deal. On a final note, we want to say many thanks and give 2 thumbs up to Johnson (sorry if we got your name wrong as it's hard to hear and talk with masks on) who provided so many details about the car and tips about where to go, what to see, and specially where to eat at 7am. read more

System was down when I reserve car. No phone number to call right away...Not reliable.

We did two daily rentals with HUI on our recent trip to Hawaii. We could not get the trunk to lock in either car. We could lock the car with the app, but never the trunk. We called support, the agent didn't know how to help, said she hadn't heard of this problem, and assured me an agent would call me back promptly. Well- they never did. Super frustrating. We needed to be able to secure our belongings in the trunk as theft is a real problem there. Everything important about the car (starting it and locking it) are controlled in the app. You will have major problems if you lose your phone or it loses power. We later learned that the trunk auto locks when you get a certain distance away from it. Ugh! Support really should have told us that when we called! We asked for an adjustment on the price we were charged- one month later and they have not done so. Really negative impact on our trip. Worst rental ever. read more

I used Hui for 5 days and it worked perfectly every time. The gas card is easy to use and I had no problems filling the car up at Hele, though you can go to any gas station except for Costco and Sam's Club. There are bad reviews of the app not working to unlock the car and I was nervous about this since you need to have cell service to connect to car. However, I went all over Oahu (Kualoa ranch, Makapuu lighthouse hike, Koko head, Eternity beach, pupukea beach, PCC, Dole, Haleiwa, North shore beaches, etc.) and was able to unlock/lock the car (I have verizon). I like that you can cancel on short notice in case your plans change and it's also one of the cheapest options since you don't have to pay for parking. Hui and Turo are the best rental car options and I would definitely use Hui again. read more

7/16/21 Woke up ready to enjoy our stay in Honolulu only to arrive at the car where to other people were waiting to access their vehicle and informed me that the app was down. We tried contacting Hui multiple times throughout the day for two days straight only to get a recording to leave a message and someone from the tech department will call back. Here we are on 7/19/21 and I still have not heard back from anyone. Book a rental car early so that you don't have to experience this with Hui car share. We were able to book a rental at the airport and enjoy our stay but at a cost. It wasn't until yesterday that I received an email to delete the app and reinstall it again for it to work. I will be contacting them today for a full refund. read more

My family and I just returned from Oahu and we used Hui Car Share. We've never heard of HCS and was a little hesitant to use, but we were very pleased with the entire process. Given the current situation in Hawaii with lack of rental cars, HCS came through for us and got us to the places we needed to get to. The car was clean, ran great, and fairly priced. Rented multiple times before. no issues untilyesterday. used for 1:30 to pick up parents. dropped off. 24 hours later i get $1000 withdrawn from my account and a picture stating i caused damage. I love the HUI concept but had a few issues throughout the day. We left from Waikiki for a drive up to the north shore and the Prius only had a quarter tank of fuel. No problem, they supply a fuel card with a very easy prepaid method of fuelling up at no cost to the driver. Not today though, the card was declined at three different fuel stations. Talked twice on the phone to customer service reps and was told both times to talk with the cashier inside. Still declined at 76, Texaco and a smaller independent station. Finally just paid $20 for fuel myself. Next bluetooth would take up to 3 minutes to open the doors and we made a lot of stops on our scenic route. Last but not least the worst is Waimea Falls is a dead area for cell service. Bluetooth did not work so car would not unlock. Staff at Falls let me use their phone as the HUI system does not take into account what happens if your phone is lost, damaged or just does not work. Luckily the Falls manager let me log into their WiFi and I was able to contact a customer service rep who eventually got me into the car and on my way. Manager at the Falls said I was the sixth person this has happened to since May. This was after being locked out for 80 minutes. She was very helpful and even removed the $20 I spent on fuel from my bill. Yes I am computer literate and very tech savvy so no this was not ignorance on my part. That being said I will still use them again but will be cautious in the mountain areas for dead spots. read more

I was however displeased to see that if I didn't use all the allotted time that i paid for, i didn't get my money back. Have rented from the Ala Moana Shopping Center and Ala Moana Hotel locations on multiple occasions when I have out of town visitors and need a larger vehicle (Lexus SUV and Sienna van) than my own personal Corolla. I live in Kaka'ako so I just walk over to the car being rented. Brand new cars! Loved the convenience - the app is your key and there are lots of charging cords for all phone types in the rental. They charge by the hour and you have to select reservation time in advance. Rates vary by car type. Always have had a great, smooth experience (customer service has been local people all the times I've called with questions) and my out of town guests enjoy the cars I use to tour them around town. In particular it's a treat to drive the Lexus SUV around town with visitors! Definitely recommend! read more

We are visiting Waikiki and decided to explore the island on our own at the last minute. The night before we left, we signed up with Hui using their app and asked them to rush approval for us, since we wanted to use it the next day. We woke up and it was approved. We selected our car and they gave us the address. We walked over there and picked up the car using our phone. Gas, cleaning, insurance is all included in the price which is why we picked them. The price you see is what you pay. You can use it for one hour or like we did for 12 hours. There is a gas card in the car so we just filled up when we needed with their card. It was so easy and affordable and so convenient. I would use them again. Loved it! read more

An Uber driver suggested HUI to us after we mentioned possibly renting a car for a day. We loved how quickly we could find, request and have our account verified and be on the road. We were staying at Queen Kapiolani, had to walk over to them, about a 20 minute walk through the more local area but no complaints on that. You are able to rent a car by the hour, you don't have to worry about putting gas back in, they have instructions on how to gas up if it goes below a quarter tank. Just make sure to follow instructions on window exactly to make sure car unlocks/locks once you are verified and ready to go. Julie answered my car and text when we were trying to figure out how to get verified sooner than the 24-72 hours they advertise. There should be a 0 star option here. I received a notice that damage was reported on a car I had previously rented. Hui sent an invoice from Fleek Auto and stated that I needed to pay by the invoice date (9/18/20). They also stated that if not paid by the invoice date, they would charge my credit card on file. I called Hui immediately to understand why I was being held accountable for these damages. When using the app, you are asked to report any damages/accidents that occurred during your usage. None of this occurred during my rental time, so I had nothing to report. Furthermore, the rental cars are parked in public spaces. It's highly plausible that vehicles can be damaged by people passing by. Once I got a representative on the phone, she stated that they had reached out to multiple users about these damages and were seeking payment. This feels like a complete scam! I am NEVER using this app again unless there are immediate reparations. If they want to accuse people of causing vehicle damages, then there needs to be an opportunity to submit photos prior to the rental period, not just afterward. read more

Absolutely love this program, cheap pricing and easy to use (frequent prius user) . Had a huge family come down this past holiday weekend and reserved a sienna to fit everyone in. It was perfect, and the vehicle selections are great for any daily tasks. Customer service was amazing, i had a lot of questions when i first started using HUI.
