There aren't many shopping centers or marketplaces when driving along Kamehameha Highway along the way to or from the North Shore. The ones that are along the way are quite dated. Having Hukilau Marketplace is a welcomed addition with many eateries and boutique stores. This place is connected with the Polynesian Cultural Center. There's plenty of parking. This is a newer place (opened in 2015). It has a vintage, casual, outdoor marketplace vibe, but everything is clean, open, and spacious. There are many unique eateries and stores that you can only find here, such as Kiwi Style Fish and Chips, Sodabomb, Kiwi Korner meat pies, and etc. Hukilau Marketplace is defintely a very nice pit stop from your drive to refresh and grab a bite to eat. read more

I've been here a couple of times. Most recently, to see if the hype over Seki Slush was valid...it's very good though I only tried one item. Also, went to pick up an online order from Chunky for their cookies that are better than that corporate chain that have a couple of locations on the Isle. A few food trucks and stalls offer food / desserts. Yes, the majority of patrons are tourists...buses line the the lot and entranceway coming into Laie from Hauula. I have neighbors who are also stalkers...but this middle-aged couple are home bound so they can't visit the North Shore...but they can live vicariously through my social media. I recommend this place....even to crazy "Karen" and her Daddi...who is 80% straight. read more

Our hotel was conveniently located next to the Hukilau Marketplace, so we were able to walk to the market in a couple minutes. They have a bunch of vendor stalls for restaurants and shopping, so you could easily spend a few hours here. It wasn't that packed when we visited around dinner time which was a plus, we ended up dining and checking out a few shops. Great place to walk around and explore one of the gems in Laie! Tita's Grill, made famous by Guy Fieri, is located here. Around the food carts are several tables of all sizes so whether you are alone or with a large group, there is plenty of seating. If you are shopping for souvenirs, Goo's Plantation Store has you covered. They have all the common Hawaiian food items and some unique, like dark chocolate covered pineapple. Wooden bowls and cutting boards, beach towels, magnets, t-shirts, jewelry - everything you see in the smaller stores but all located here. Hapa Home is filled with home decor and gift items, all with a beachy theme. Pillows, ceramics, glassware, serving platters, wooden bowls, small pieces of furniture, jewelry and more. We loved our time at the Hukilau Market and PCC. While we had a few missteps with the food trucks and their fare, we found the market itself well-stocked and full of clever and interesting items. They had a great selection of pareos (sarong) and the price was really great. I liked it so much. I got a couple of them. I thought I'd find more on the island or even in Kauai and they were thin and backing was lighter almost like someone took a piece of fabric and just cut it and made a sarong..... but not this place! I can't say they were the best for the shaved ice, but it was pretty good. There was a lot of variety of restaurants and shops. When I go back, I'll definitely go there. read more

As we were staying just right next door, we decided to take a peek at what dining options there were as we were a bit soaked and tired and hungry from our car trip over. P A R K I N G As this is the "Downtown Disney"-esque style spot for the Polynesian Center, there's a lot of parking (two huge lots) and it's all free which is nice. We actually considered parking here as our hotel charged for parking, but was unsure how legal that would be! D I N I N G There are several options. Mainly a lot of stationary "food trucks" on premises with your typical Hawaiian fare as well as Thai, Mexican, and of course desserts. There's also a couple sit in restaurants and of course the famous Polynesian luau buffet but of course that's a little more pricey. O V E R A L L It was nice to walk around the area. The food options wasn't to our liking and we ended up driving a little bit a ways to get some burgers at Seven Brothers. It's also a nice spot to stretch your legs and take a potty break before heading to your home or next destination. read more

If you're looking for a throwback outdoor mall, this is a good place. We came here looking for lunch and were not disappointed. There are a lot of good restaurants and shops. We ate at Pounders and also got a Kona ice from that stand. We had an exchange at the Na Hoku store. We browsed the gift shops and considered buying items. It may be a bit touristy but I'd still go here as a local because the food looks really good. There was plenty of parking and a lot of great options for food and desserts. This marketplace has a lot to offer by way of shopping and food. We walked around and enjoyed a few very large, unique, and very well kept gift shops. There were a ton of food, ice cream, dole whip, and other unique food options, including a few food trucks. If you plan to eat and see the marketplace, I'd say there's about 1-2 hrs (max) worth to see here. The marketplace is connected to/part of the Polynesian Cultural Center. There is a day time garden/park experience including students from several polynesian cultures with booths showing and talking about their culture, some including dancing or other small activities. The night time activity seemed to be like an indoor fire or polynesian dancing show. While we wanted to experience these, both are pay-only, so we decided to opt-out. If you plan to visit both the marketplace & one or both of these Cultural Center activities, your visit here could probably extend to 2-4 hrs. Overall, we are very happy we visited and I would suggest stopping by if you're already driving through the northern windward side of Oahu, perhaps to or from the North shore. However, I wouldn't make a separate trip or go out of my way to visit the marketplace, especially if you're not going for the Polynesian Cultural Center attractions. There isn't much around this northern side of Eastern Oahu, so it's really only an attraction worth stopping for on the way to something else. Very little shopping or food within 20-30 mins either north or south of here. read more

The market place is attached to the PCC Polynesian culture center. Which is a great Show, I have heard. I think this place has some cute trinkets that are pretty authentic Hawaiian things. I really like that this place also has some great food trucks. My family and I enjoyed some ice cream and really like walking around and enjoyed walking around and seeing all this place. This should be a must-include on your North Shore bucket list! If you're heading over to the Polynesian Cultural Center then you're sure to walk through on your way to purchase tickets, grab a snack or pick up an island souvenir. One of the Marketplace highlights is nightly live entertainment featured in the gazebo from 6-7pm which makes for quite the step-up dinner experience from the usual takeout. My favorite is taking visiting friends to grab a dole whip (I don't see the point going to Wahiawa Dole Plantation), Penny's malasadas or a drink at SodaBomb. My friends from Utah can get their Island-Utah fix all in one place. Be sure to check out Pounder's restaurant. Great sit down option with reasonable prices for families or those on a travel budget. So far so good. Got here around 5:30pm. First stop was Délice Crêpes. Gotta have one!! The restrooms are located right outside the theater and are very clean. There are several shops in this place, which is located next to the theater where the PCC show Hā- Breath Of Life is performed. There's a shop of home furnishings, a Whalers General Store type shop a sweet shop, a kiosk of Kahuku Red Raider fan gear, and one for smoothies. As for places to eat, there is Baguette food truck specializing in sandwiches, theres Seven Brothers food truck, but I don't know what they serve. There's a hot dog place and Pounders restaurant which is the only "sit down" restaurant here, and I can't find it on Yelp!, so I'm going to review it here. The two items our server recommended are the Ham Shank that comes with cheese grits and some kind of Southern style greens, and the Filet Mingon that comes with bacon mashed potatoes and French beans. Sister ordered candied bacon appetizer which I found to be quite tough and chewy. Not what I expected, but they're still new, so I'd give it a second chance. The ham shank: the portion size was enormous! I couldn't even finish half! Not sure how it was prepared, but it did come to the table covered in a spicy barbeque sauce. The cheese grits were great. Nice texture, a little firm, but softened as I chewed, and the cheese flavor ran throughout. The filet mingon (sp): portion was on the smaller side, but the French beans and bacon mashed potatoes' portion was a good size. Sorry gang, no dessert ordered here as we had already had a crêpe earlier. I will definitely be back to try something else! Oh, and one more thing, they do have a kids menu, but you may need to ask for one. Enjoy! read more

The Hukilau Marketplace is in the same location as the Polynesian Cultural Center. You actually go through the market place to get to the PCC entrance. It was a nice walk with different vendors and restaurants. Spare at least an hour to tour the market. There's a shop where you can buy Dole Whip. We bought a Cali Dog from Hale Pops Hotdogs. We went to Hukilau marketplace in search of some lunch when driving back to the Northshore from the Eastside. Loved the parking and access to the many shops and food vendors here. Hale Pops is where we decided to eat and let me tell you, it was good and local bruddas manning the place were excellent. The service and food were really great, enjoyed talking with them while waiting for the food. I am special order kinda guy and it was spot on. The marketplace is a very touristy spot full of great food trucks and shops. I often come here to get souvenirs, jewelry, and even beautiful flower crowns! They also have the best food! I love going to get drinks from Sodabomb then some Thai food from elephant truck. They also have a great fish and chips place and a sweet shop where they have dole whip!! I'm a sucker for pineapple soft serve :) In the marketplace they also have live music around dinner time and I think they still do a movie on the lawn once a month. It's just a fun environment where you can see and meet so many diverse people. Very touristy, but a fun place to hangout, look around, and get lots of food. read more

PARKING: Huge parking lot with lots of handicap parking plus since this is one the Marketplace side the parking doesn't fill up as much as the parking near the main PCC entrance. The atmosphere is inviting and fun. Live music and lots to do. Grab some Mango Otai when you see the stand with the bananas and fruit hanging! Lots of places to shop for clothing and fun souvenirs. Apparently, the Hikilau Marketplace is a brand spankin new shopping area outside the Polynesian Culture Center "park". They offer a great variety of shopping, from crepes to smoothies, to hello kitty items, home items and burgers. There's even a little bandstand/ stage area, where they have people perform. Let's be honest, PCC is for tourists. Tourists love buying "Hawaiian" items they really don't need. I get it... I've done my fair share of world travel and go gaga for shopping too. It was fun to people watch and to see how much people are willing to pay for things they could get at the swap meet. You can get novelty items like light up "fire" batons that looking like the ones the fire dancers use. They also sell those brown slip on sandals that you can get for like a dollar at longs. Because PCC is owned by Brigham Young University, many, if not all the salespeople are BYU students. The students are an interesting mix of kids from Utah, Asia and the South Pacific. PCC doesn't really advertise the fact that they are owned by BYU and the church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints... But I guess the tourists are too consumed in the cultural appropriation they are experiencing to notice or care. Just fyi. read more

Fun and educational and entertaining for the entire family. They take you on a tour through all the Polynesian cultures, have you join in with learning about each culture, they start out with a lunch at pounders restaurant, then start the tour with learning about leis and bring you to the Samoan culture introduction, then continue to New Zealand, then on to Tahiti and Fiji, there's a river ride you can take after the tour, then you go to their luau buffet feast, where they entertain you with dancers.
