Loved this! It's such unique topping combinations that I would never think to put on a hot dog, or even put together, but it's always delicious! I love the option for type of bun as well, and the way they toast the inside is great. They have some unique and delicious drink options, and overall the pricing is pretty reasonable for what you're getting, especially down in Honolulu. We were able to park in the free little lot for customers within about an hour of them closing on a Monday, though I'm not sure how busy that lot usually is.

Lunch on Kapiolani Boulevard in Honolulu, Hawaii... Located diagonally across from the Convention Center, the Hula Dog food truck is right next to the sidewalk and is very colorful. There's parking right next to Hula Dog, and there's even a shared seating area with the other food trucks. Service is super friendly and helpful! The lone worker took orders, assembled the menu items, and showed how the blue butterfly pea tea turns lavender in color by adding freshly squeezed lemon juice. At first, I got the veggie dog in a taro bun with roasted garlic lemon sauce and Hawaiian mustard. Everything tasted great except for the veggie dog - it didn't taste right. That's why I had to get a Polish dog in a Sweet Bread bun with roasted garlic lemon sauce and Hawaiian mustard... much better! It's really cool that the holes are made in the buns so that the hotdogs can fit inside (along with the sauces). The fillings don't fall out of the buns! The Strawberry Lemonade tasted better than the Lavender Summer Lemonade which was tart even though some sugar was added to it. It was an interesting experience because outdoor dining isn't my favorite. The birds were sort of aggressive. The cars passing by and the construction noises were a bit much. Maybe I should have sat at the covered seating area further back, instead of sitting at the picnic bench and table right in front of Hula Dog.

I wanted to love Hula Dog but the experience was just meh overall. Despite ordering in front of a few other groups, the gentleman making the food made the drinks for the parties behind us first before getting our food out. He could have been multitasking and getting part of our order ready while he was making our food, but it was still a little annoying. I enjoyed the Signature Poi Dog (I ordered it mild), but wanted more from the taro bun. It was a bit hard in places? Maybe not the most fresh. I'd be willing to go back and try again as I think the hot dog itself was very tasty but the overall experience left me wanting more.

I always by passed this place on Kapiolani Blvd and decided to finally try it out. My boyfriend and I approached the stand and I was looking over the menu. We knew we were only going to get one hotdog just to try it out. When we were ready to put in our order, I placed it in with the male worker. As I was saying my order to the worker, my boyfriend had walked away to the side to wait for me. When I finished putting in my order, the worker had asked me if it would have been just one or two hotdogs. I answered him by saying yes just one. Which he then responded by saying, "what, would he rather have a pho?" Clearly seeing my boyfriend was Asian, that was his question for us just getting one hotdog. He said it as if it was funny. I left it alone and waited for the order. I just don't get the point of him having to say that. He didn't even pronounce "pho" right either, he pronounced it as "foe." As for the hotdog itself, it is good. It is on the pricier side of $11 for one but for the price you get with the bun, polish sausage and toppings, it made it for it. Lower stars because of the overall impression.

Came across this food truck and was pleasantly surprised to learn that Anthony Bourdain had visited in the past to try their famous Hula Dog. The owner runs the whole operation solo--taking orders, cooking, and serving--which added a personal touch to the experience. The setting is a typical food truck area with outdoor seating, though be aware there's no restroom available nearby. We tried the Signature Poi Dog and Hula Dog--both were delicious! The unique combination of sauces and cheese paired perfectly with the hot dogs. It's a fresh and creative take on a classic. Would definitely come back for more.

The owner of a parking lot has converted the site into a conglomeration for food carts, trailers and trucks. They have even constructed a collective seating area. Hula Dog is one of the tenants. Hula Dog's has some claim to fame, as it was featured in an episode of an Anthony Bourdain series. They still get social media coverage by content creators. The menu is really basic. There are only two sausage types available: a polish sausage and a veggie dog. Their choice of buns and unique condiments are interesting. It was okay / good; I can't say that it lives up to the hype. If you are in the area; if you are passing by; it is worth consideration. But I cannot say that Hula Dog is a destination in itself.

Went here on the weekend while our daughter was playing at the convention center. Super close and easy to walk to. The place was not busy at all and there were tables to sit at. We walked up and looked at the menu and figured same thing as Puka Dog on Kauai..boy did I regret mentioning the P word. Got an earful from the guy working about how much better it was blah, blah, blah. He went on and on and honestly it was a turnoff. Only reason I'm taking a star away. Our food was tasty as well as our lilikoi pineapple lemonade. The taro bun was perfectly grilled and had a crisp that made it that much better. I'd say get the spicy, I regret not getting it hotter.

This poi dog is delicious. I think that when i first heard the taro bun with the fruity relish, it was too different to be tasty. IT WAS SO GOOD, it was like the fruitiness cancelled out the fattiness of the hotdog . It tasted so good i would go back just to have it again.

The Classic Hot Dog, Signature Poi Dog, Hula Polish Dog

My boyfriend and I went here last night for a fun new place. I told him I was craving hot dogs, and this exceeded my expectation. The man in the truck named Dan (I think..) was very kind to us and had very fast service. We sat under the tent at the tables. Dan was very nice and even brought our food out to us. He also made us a special lemonade that was not on the menu 10 out of 10.

Every time I go to Oahu, I make it a point to stop by and grab a Hula Dog. It's legit. I wish they had more locations! I got the Polish Sausage, Papaya Relish, Lilikoi Mustard. Give it a try!

If you're in the Ala Moana side of town, would recommend stopping by to get a polish or hula dog - the relish and sauces pair amazingly well with the hot dog, and the bread is soft yet contains all the flavors inside really well! A must-visit for sure - Miguel Morales Photography

Taro bun for your hot dog?! Um YES PLEASE!!! Hula Dog is a food truck that you simply cannot miss during your drive or walk. They'll have their blue and yellow food truck, a sign and a flag! I definitely recommend stopping by for a snack before or after whatever plans you have. Ordering is easy, a step by step process that you can read from their menu. They have a main menu with set and stone buns or you can create your own. Pick your bun, pick the spice level, pick the relish and the mustard, the pick any additional toppings. For the relish, they have papaya, mango, coconut or pineapple. I think, whoa right!? Well, you gotta trust me and trust Hula Dog. Their relishes will make you want to try each one lol I ended up choosing either papaya or pineapple. Sorry, I can't remember. For the mustard, they have a delicious Hawaiian mustard (Lilikoi flavor) which I definitely recommend! It adds such a sweet flavor to the savory hula dog! Trust. Or you can choose Dijon or yellow. When in Hawaii, I try to get whatever I can with Li Hing Mui! So I did. I got Hula Dog's freshly squeezed lemonade with li hing mui and wow... it was the best tasting lemonade I've ever had! I'll definitely be back at Hula Dog the next time I'm in Oahu! Mahalo Hula Dog!

Five out of five because this is the best dog around Hawaii. There's something special about the flavor, all the different toppings, and of course, the bun they stuffed it into. I remember the good old days when this was actually on Kuhio many many moons ago. Although this is now a food truck located on Kuhio, it still has the great vibes and the delicious food. During my visit, I was able to purchase merchandise such as a shirt and a hula dog hat. Every time I'm in Hawaii I definitely check out Hula Dog for the delicious food amazing service, and aloha spirit.

Conveniently located near Duke's, there's one outdoor table nearby, but really, just pick up a sandwich and take it to the beach! Staff was very friendly. I said no mayo or mustard, though I'd probably recommend mayo. There are so many veggies that it needs a little sauce. The veggies make you feel like you're eating something super healthy! Skipping this place would be a crime. And prices are very reasonable for what you get. It's a hidden gem, tucked inside the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort just to the right of Duke's. I've been here many times and have ordered both smoothies and sandwiches. Let me tell you, the bread is incredibly soft, the greens are crisp and fresh, and the protein is ALWAYS tasty. The team works hard to craft your sandwich every time, and I always get a warm "thank you" when I pick mine up (I swear I got into a thank-you battle once, and of course, they won). I highly recommend the tuna sandwich. It's seasoned perfectly and generously filled with tuna. The greens are always piled high. Shredded carrots, spinach leaves, and more sprouts than you'd think possible. It's healthy and DELICIOUS. I usually add avocado, and the sandwich with avocado comes out to $13.75, which is a great deal for Waikiki. Oh! and you get a little skewer of two pineapple slices! It's cute, refreshing, and perfectly ripe every time. The last smoothie I ordered was the Avocado Green Island. It's made with mango, avocado, spinach, banana, greek yogurt, and coconut milk. It's creamy, slightly tangy, and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. I've also tried their chicken salad sandwich (money!) and my favorite, the Captain Salad. I recommend getting it with Caesar dressing. The brand of ranch they use isn't really my thing. They also have a homemade balsamic vinagarette that sounds amazing. The salad is huge, topped with turkey and generous crumbles of bacon. I'm telling you, they're serving hit after hit after hit at this spot. Go and enjoy ASAP!

I think that you should be able to taste a bit of everything in the sandwich with every bite. There have been times that the pickled red onion was on the skimpy side - like 80% of the time. Today my Duke sandwich was fantastic! Whoever made it literally had everything evenly spread and laid out on my multigrain bread. The lettuce was over the edges, but who cares. The only downside I can think of is that the bread here lands somewhere between "ok" and "good". Service was quick, the staff was friendly, and the shop was clean. My only downside was the portion size. The sandwich was a bit small and didn't have much meat (as pictured), so I wouldn't recommend Da Vinny if you're looking for a heartier meal. Definitely go for one of the bigger sandwiches, but it is a little pricier. Overall, a tasty sandwich with great service--I'd come back, but probably as a lighter lunch.
