Only suggestion is to make a shirt with the hula girl only on it and I wish they had put up the hula girl sail in this last trip it so unique and I love seeing it up. I'll be back again. Hula Girl was the highlight of our 7 day trip to Maui. We did a sunset dinner cruise with our 4 year old son. The catamaran itself is so much nicer/better designed than the others that will take you out. It's incredibly spacious, clean and comfortable. It wasn't cramped at all, easy to move from the bow to the stern without feeling unsafe, and we loved that there were three different levels with ample, cushiony seating to choose to spend time on during the sail. There's also a fourth, lower level with very nice heads if you need. The crew was fantastic. They were a happy bunch, and just seemed to love their job. They were accommodating in every way, and nice to chat with. Captain Pete (the owner) is passionate about sailing, and has been doing it for 50 years. He knew to change course to accommodate for strong winds, and the ride ended up being surprisingly calm and smooth. The food.... We read it was good but wondered how good could it truly be. We had dined at Merriman's, Ulu Kitchen, Sea House etc. - NONE of them even came close to Chef Sergio's meal that was prepared on the boat. It was hands down the best we enjoyed during the trip. We had a fresh caught Monchong filet expertly prepared and artfully plated, with flavors that worked so well together. A delectable dessert followed that even I enjoyed as someone that never orders dessert. Truly, chef's kiss! There were lots of people aboard that were repeat guests - and we can see why. We sail a lot all over on the Cats. This was by far the best! The boat is absolutely in a league of its own! Captain Jack and crew were so personable and offer yacht Level service just so awesome!!! Long time Hula Girl fans! Once we found the Hula Girl, many, many years ago, we have rarely been on another boat when we visit Maui. Peter and Inca(owners) and their amazing team are special and we always love seeing them and getting first class service. We have been on all of their excursions (snorkel cruise, dinner cruise, sunset sail and the whale watch cruises). All worth it! My family and I own many hula girl hats(have one on in pic) and swim shirts. Food is always fantastic and fresh with chef Sergio in their full service kitchen. We go out on this evening dinner cruise Everytime we are on Maui. Without a doubt, it's the best. Cooked to order food that is delicious. If you like beef, go for the short ribs, incredible. I also routinely get the chef's special fish, always amazing and unbelievably fresh. They also make a mean crème brûlée for dessert. Crew is always so friendly and helpful, and the cruise itself is always beautiful. Spinner dolphins, whales, rainbows and then anchoring for dinner off the top of the island. Incredible. The best of the best! This was such an incredible sailing and snorkel experience for our family. The crew was so nice and friendly and helpful. The owners went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. You guys, this food was so awesome for being served on a boat in the middle of the Hawaiian see. We got the pork quesadilla with salsa and it really hit the spot after swimmin around in the ocean for a bit. We also got the pork sandwich with those yummy Hawaiian potato chips, BAM! We had a fantastic time on the sunset cruise. The sailing catamaran was large and spacious. The boat was not crowded and felt very comfortable. The boat was smooth and stable. It was spotlessly clean. We had to remove our shoes before boarding. Be aware that you need to walk a few feet through the water onto the boat. Depending on how tall you are, the water could be knee deep or waist deep. The food, though paid separate, was delicious! The dinner here was the best on our entire stay! This isn't a rowdy party boat like some of the others. This boat has a more grown up, and upscale vibe. There was live music for part of the ride but it was entertainment music, not rowdy party music. Would definitely come back again. read more

Fantastic staff and a beautiful boat. We booked an evening ride and diner. Completely wonderful experience for a 4-hour ride. The boat picked us up on the beach. There were shoes allowed on the boar, and they washed our feet. The entire place was clean, and the staff was terrific. Mattie helped us get the correct local and talked to my son about being a works traveler. We order the pasta with the catch of the day, crab cake, the surf & turf, and pasta with Ahi tuna. Every meal was amazingly prepared in the kitchen on the ship. The steak was a perfect rare, and the tuna was red in the middle. Perfect. This was one of the highlights of our trip! We loved snorkeling at Honolua Bay and saw so many varieties of fish. The service was excellent and food was delicious. I was so surprised how comfortable and exciting a catamaran tour could be. I felt very safe boarding (and deboarding) as well as walking around. The crew checked in on us and other passengers to make sure we were ok or if we needed anything. The vessel was comfortable. We didn't reserve any special seats (optional) and were perfectly comfortable at open table seating (we couldn't tell from the website if we were going to be sitting at the front of the catamaran trying to eat, and that wasn't the case). Some additional info for travelers who've not been to Maui to snorkel based on experience: Don't bother with a Molokini tour (a different tour company). We did that early on. The staff on that tour was fine, but the crater didn't have a lot to see and there were so many people that we were being bumped and kicked (inadvertently). It was a disappointment. We'd hoped that this would be enjoyable snorkeling like we had done on the Big Island near Captain Cook monument, but it was definitely not. Honolua Bay was far superior. So, I'll be honest -this is not some thing I thought I'd put in a review, but for someone who may be concerned about bathrooms on a catamaran: These are down a flight of steps that are not as sloped as the steps coming onto the catamaran; however, there are rails to hold on both sides and the steps are covered with something textured. I was rather worried about going up and down these, but it was not terrible at all. The bathroom was even cleaner and more spacious than expected. If we make it back to Maui, I'd would definitely rebook this tour in a heartbeat. We had a fabulous time! read more

Serious 4-star rating for this. My friends and I ordered our tickets and didn't know what to expect, but this was amazing. It's a gorgeous, well-kept, clean boat. Drives you along the coastline. You stop in a bay, have a chance to snorkel and/or scuba for about 2 hours, then you can order lunch from the onboard chef. The whole crew was nice, friendly, accommodating, easy-going, and relaxed. Alcohol served on board. Bring your own snacks and beverages if you want. And then after snorkeling/lunch, you get a solid 1 hour sail into the ocean before landing back at the beach. SO RELAXING. And seriously a gorgeous , clean boat and the most relaxed atmosphere ever. I would totally go on this again next time I'm in Maui. read more

November 2023 - BACK IN BUSINESS AND OPEN! Customer service: the staff was helpful and friendly. The captain gives a safety review, introduces the staff and off you go. Diving experience: the dive instructor was amazing. Without her I would not have been able to complete by scuba dive. Food: with a designated chef and limited but high class menu we had the local fish catch of the day and we're impressed. It was even better than what we got at Dukes! Boat: clean, plenty of gear for all customers, Fresh paint , clean bathrooms, places to sit or lay in the sun, or order a table for the day. Safety: yes sometimes reservations get bumped to another day when weather is incremental. This is to make sure that customers have a great experience and not go out on a boat on a day the weather bad. Some folks on our tour had been booked for the day before and rebooked. There's nothing Businesses could do about the weather but how they handle it to care for the safety of their customers is impressive. Please be patient and know this happens for YOUR GOOD! This is highly recommended. I want to preface by suggesting you prepare to be there extra early. We came from Kihei and Google maps said we would get there 10 minutes early for check in when we left. As traffic progressed getting into Lahaina we ended up BARELY making it. So do yourself a favor and leave with extra time. You board from the sand which is pretty cool, just be aware you will get a little sandy and wet. The boat was gorgeous, the staff were fantastic, and the food. THE FOOD. We had a shrimp appetizer that was excellent and then both got the surf and turf which was top tier, especially for the price. We anchored in a nice little bay and watched people do some rock jumping and enjoyed being in the water. Then we sailed back to Lahaina and ate the lava cake for dessert, which if it were socially acceptable I would have licked the plate clean. Overall 10/10, highly recommend. We ended up paying a little over $400 for the whole trip, which I think may have been more than it was worth but everything in Maui is expensive so I'm not mad at it. We don't drink and the other dinner cruises I saw had alcoholic drinks included so we wanted to choose one that didn't have us pay for something we didn't partake. And I wanted to have really good food, which we definitely got. read more

I'm giving this review because this was a weird trip and ended up being entertaining for the remainder of our vacation. If you're looking for a "below deck" feeling on a fabulous boat, with fancy a la carte dining/bar, and mediocre snorkeling you should definitely check it out. You'll have a place to sit even if you don't reserve a table. The boat arrived late to the Kaanapali beach loading spot. There was no one there or any sort of sign directing you for check in. Once loaded, the captain admitted the surf in the bay was high for snorkeling but perfect for surfing and he was wishing he was off the clock. They do give out snorkel gear but don't be fooled, that's not the real focus on the trip. There's no lifeguard that I noticed, and they served alcohol on the way to the snorkel spot. I love sailing and snorkeling so I was really looking forward to this trip. There was no sailing. The crew did not have time for that. The crew wasn't very cohesive. They didn't seem super excited to be on the boat. They changed destinations without informing us where we were going. I asked the captain about the boat. Its an interesting story. It was not at all what we were expecting. A family owned operated outfit but you wouldn't know unless you get the back story. It didn't feel like an ohana. It was weird and kinda sad. The boat is really awesome, but it was not the best snorkeling trip. This was one of three catamaran snorkel trips we took on our vacation to Maui. I would go on the boat again, but I wouldn't go on this tour again. read more

Wow ! What a great little spot. Didn't have time to try the dinner menu but stopped in for an afternoon appetizer and a quick beer. Located in Whaler's Village, Hula Grill is one of a kind. Sand at your feet. Great signature drinks and a way unique Hawaiian Ceviche with some freshly made in-house taro chips. Service staff was good and responsive. The atmosphere was delightful. Such a great sailing experience!!! The crew was very friendly with good personalities. (If you get sea sick, like I do, plan ahead for that). The reason for 3 stars is the food was over-sold in my opinion. "Best food on the island" is what they said. Whale season is over so this cruise was considered a "dinner cruise". We ordered the "jumbo" shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and nothing about the shrimp was jumbo... I only ordered because I thought they were going to be actual "jumbo" sized shrimp. They were regular size small shrimp you would find at a grocery store shrimp cocktail. For dinner, my husband ordered the daily fish special and he said it tasted good as was well cooked. But it was a small portion. I ordered the braised short rib which the chef did a very good job!! The flavor was well done and cooked well and I would definitely recommend that. The rest of the veggies and mashed potatoes were cold so that was a bummer... PS- sailed in early April and didn't see any whales except for way far in the distance we saw them spray water from their blow holes. read more

Booked based on past reviews and we were not disappointed. Instead of loading from a beach, we were shuttled to the boat in Zodiacs because the surf was too high to launch from the beach. They did a great job of assisting two 77 year olds in spite of the awkward entry to the Zodiacs. Capt. Pete was personable and gave us a lot of information about his huge catamaran. We asked one of the zodiac drivers if they had to restrict the number of people on the boat and he said they had 46 people and have never had more than 49, even though the legal capacity is over 100. In spite of the white caps on the ocean, the ride was reasonably smooth. The snorkel site was memorable and everyone on board was helpful and courteous. Food and drinks were extra and that pushed the cost up by about 50% but still less than a similar excursion on Kawai that we have taken before. You could save money by bringing your own food and not buying drinks but that is all part of the experience. Service was excellent. All the staff wore masks but social distancing on a boat is impossible. read more

We went out with some friends & family on the morning snorkel sail. CHECK IN: On the beach fronting Whaler's Village. THE CAT: The usual catamaran with outdoor seating on the nets and benches, and covered seating with booths and a bar. The joint was very clean. SNORKEL: We dropped anchor for about 1.5 hours off of Mala Wharf in Lahaina because visibility at Honolua Bay was less. There's a collapsed pier which serves as the centerpiece. I didn't snorkel but others said they saw small sharks, turtles, and naturally fish. SCUBA is also available regardless of ability. No SNUBA. MENU: Burgers, pasta, fish, and a full bar at additional cost. BEVERAGE: Beers were $3 for domestics and $5 for imports & local brews, not bad at all. FOOD: Monchong - The fish was a little overdone and was served with rice, red bells, and hearts of palm. Flavor was gingery-savory. One of the crew members said he'd put the fish up against Mama's Fish House any day but it was far from close to it, but still good. Pesto Linguine - We received this dish by accident and what a delish mistake it was! The pasta was cooked perfect and the flavor was subtlety good. Came topped with sliced chicken breast. SERVICE: Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and professional. TIP: If you park at Whaler's Village beware because our validated ticket (with $15 purchase from a Whaler's Village merchant) totaled $18 for about 6 hours. OVERALL: We had a great time moreso because the boat wasn't sold out. Good food & fun times. read more
