This is the funest bar I have ever been to. The staff is very friendly and personable. Hula hula is the only bar that I trust leaving my wallet, drink, bag, and coats out in the open because everyone looks out for each other there, even if you don't know the person next to you. The bartenders make great drinks and pour amazingly fast friendly customer service, I never have to wait a long time for a drink (considering how busy it is there I am impressed with how fast they pump out drinks) karaoke is so fun!! I patiently waited for service but not a single eff was given by the bartender. On Sunday night, I strolled up to the bar to order a drink. The bartender didn't acknowledge me at all even though I was the only person in front of him for a couple minutes. A few men started to queue around me. The bartender briefly made eye contact with me. "Yes, this is it" I think to myself, "I'll finally be able to rejoin my friends with beer!" How mistaken I was. He wasn't making eye contact; he was looking through me. As he took painstaking effort to address and distribute drinks to everyone, except me, I stood silently dumbfounded. Once again, I was the only one at the bar and I forced a polite smile and initiated verbal interaction. He curtly barked, "What do you want?" I ordered a beer and watched as he dilly dallied, fumbling with bar equipment, danced to karaoke, generally took his sweet time. Finally he slammed down the pint in front of me snatched up the cash I'd laid down and called me "sweetheart" as he brought me my change. I later found out that he had been pushing my friends out of his way; for what reason I don't know but I'm certain it wasn't to provide prompt service to anyone. He had also refused to allow people in my party to pay in cash until they insisted on seeing the manager. Although I didn't personally see him drinking, several people mentioned that he was intoxicated. This is frankly the worst service I've ever experienced. I've never been to Hula Hula and I don't plan on ever going back. I work in the service industry and I empathize with other servers. I give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to trusting they are working hard to facilitate an enjoyable experience. However it was blatantly obvious that this bartender's behavior was inappropriate! read more

this sport has by far the worst karaoke host ever. I have traveled a lot around the world and never seen such bad service. He is arrogant, a bad singer and does not have any respect for guests. This is why I will never go back to this place even if it is conveniently located. I have tried to address this issue to management couple of times and they either dont care or not available during busy business hours. No wonder why the karaoke host can do whatever he wants. Had a great time, service was awesome...until one of the bartenders was extremely rude, we waited about 15 mins for a drink and then when we said the name on our tab she replied 'I don't know you' we then tried to let her know what our card looked like and she replied 'I have 120 people here with tabs open'. She was extremely rude when we were trying to order/close out our tab...however the rest of the bartenders/waitstaff were awesome...not sure if we will go back on the weekends any time soon. I'm probably being generous in giving Hula Hula a 3 star, but the bartender was very friendly, attentive & entertaining. (Went on a Sunday night, so wasn't too crowded) I had the loco moco but it was nothing to brag about (I'm being nice) - rice was bland, beef didn't have much taste, and the whole dish wasn't greasy enough. Given the name, I was expecting them to have some decent island grub - but the search continues. They don't even have a single can of spam in the kitchen, so that should tell you something. On a different note, I had been here once on a busy night (Fri or Sat) for drinks with a bunch of guys, and I remember their drinks being pretty good & karaoke was also entertaining (I did not sing myself). read more

my pals and i crash hula hula every sunday night for karaoke, and i mean. the main draw is that you can get foofy polynesian drinks that come in porcelain coconuts and easter island heads. also, no one is ever there, so we usually have the place to ourselves. the karaoke rotation is like five songs. so you know, that's worth a lot. that said, half of the drinks are REALLY SUPAR STIFF and will knock you on your ass, and the other half have like two thimbles of booze innem. the chi chi, while incredibly delicious, is basically a frappuccino--pineapple juice, coconut milk, a speck of vodka, ice, with whipped cream and a cherry, and you'd need like three to get a buzz. which sucks, because these drinks are like seven or eight bucks a pop. the pupu menu is also pricey and not really worth writing home about, although the halibut tacos and the hot wings are good. (i think they're called something kitschy like . . . i don't know, "pele wings?" "molten magma morsels?" "the subduction zone?") Hula hula is a very relaxed karaoke bar that does have a bit of a tropical flair. Everyone has a good time singing and no one is shunned off for not doing well, it's a very inviting crew that frequent Hula Hula. It is a dive bar and has all of the typical things that go along with dive bars such as small dark bathrooms and sticky table tops but since you are already drinking up the courage to get up and sing, you tend not to notice these things and if you do, you aren't bothered by them. You can open a tab, but make sure that you don't forget your card, it is a $10 min for the card charge, but since that is only two beers, it isn't hard to make the min. There are also many fun tropical drinks in "bowl" form available on the menu but you will need a team to help you drink them. read more

Here they have a nicely set up stage loaded with great lighting, lazer effects, smoke machine, a bubble machine (makes it look like it's snowing), wireless microphones, large screen, music videos etc..... The song selection is by far one of the most complete collections around....and what you don't see there, just let the DJ know and he will most likely be able to get it for you. With the layout of the place being more or less one large open room, you never feel crowded or cornered, or have to fight your way through a crowd. Now yes, sometimes it does get a bit packed, but the bar staff is very professional and polite as well as wait staff that are always on the spot to keep your drinks full!! Sis and I found this place by accident. We happened to be driving by and she saw the tiki decor and we screeched to a halt. We were hoping that it would be reminiscent of the Tiki Ti in LA. It isn't. Everything about Hula Hula is a tropical treatment. From the moment you walk in, there's an outdoor patio where you can take your drink outside. Upon entering- to the left is bathrooms, photo booths and booth seating. Smack dab in the middle they have what they call a velvet room where they show performers on the live screen above you. With this area it's lifted to make it feel private and secluded. Now to the right, is the full bar which is decorated with real puffer fish! The karaoke booth, seating and the stage is also in this region. They do karaoke every single night at 9pm. On weekends, expect to get here early to get in the rotation. Regarding the karaoke, hands down the best in Seattle- scratch that Washington! The level of performance quality is outstanding and overall an amazing time. This was the worst service I have had in Seattle. I would stand at the bar for 10 minutes without , fruitlessly trying to get a drink, and ps it WAS NOT THAT BUSY. And, I am pretty easy going about that kind of thing, I get bartenders are busy people, but Hula Hula was just ridiculous. Also, when a friend of mine tried to order happy hour food (ie, give Hula Hula more money) the bartender rudely told her the wait would be an hour and it wasn't worth it. Lovely. Honestly, this is one of my faves and I will opt to come here over a long list of other bars, but I have to admit that something is always a little off. Not sure what it is! The bartenders are totally chill, consistent, friendly, but the drinks are nothing special. Hula hula's karaoke is absolutely rockin' - best in town in my opinion. It's where the pros hang out as far as I can tell and I'm pretty sure someone's Jan 10. rendition of "total eclipse of the heart" would have made Bonnie Tyler green with envy. Still ... something is off. Maybe it's the decorating. The tiki bar theme sometimes reminds me of a bad high school dance. And the stage is too isolated, since the space in front of it is mostly occupied by a pool table. The effect is that no matter where I am, I feel like I'm on the sideline, or somehow in everyone's way. I do love the outdoor seating though - it's a small "patio" with plastic chairs and a couple (fake?) plants. Super chill. Hula hula has never failed me and despite its flaws I'll keep coming here. we've been waiting to party at hula hula for a colleague's birthday for weeks! and though it was fun, the fun is mostly in the company that you bring... we ate, drank, played foozball, sang karaoke... all in all ingredients for fun. however, i agree, with some of the previous reviews that the service could be a little better. for the small number of people around the bar, we did have to wait a while to get someone's attention. the karaoke manager was also unaccomodating to requests to change the order of songs among people in our group (also it was confusing as to when karaoke started... we seemed to wait a long time). we all did get a kick out of the volcano bowl... it comes with fire and staws that glow like light sabers (and they were long enough to have a mini fights)! btw, note to people who like to wear black, you can see all the lint on your clothing. my black shirt looked pretty bad with glowing lint all over. read more

I had a good time there on my Birthday last fall but I don't think that had anything to do with the bar or bartender. The bartender was the least friendly guy I've met in the service industry outside of Capitol Hill. We tried to be very nice to him and tip him well but he was a sour pus until the bitter end and we decided he didn't deserve anymore tips. The karaoke guy had a weird rule that you couldn't sing two songs in a row so my friends who wanted to sing duets with me couldn't even though we were the only ones in there. My friends kept buying me the $20 flaming drink but I don't think it had anymore liquor than an electric ice tea. They had decent pina coladas. STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD. I just went to Hula Hula for a birthday party with a large group of people and I was really impressed with how well our waitress handled the party - she got everyone their own separate checks and was very attentive despite a band playing and tons of other people there. My only complaint is that it takes a while to get drinks, especially if they are blended. . . . which are the best IMO especially since they are served in overly festive cups : ) The decor is over the top but I must confess that I like it - especially the patio on summer days! read more

I prefer places where karaoke consists of serious drunks and non-serious singers, trying songs they don't know and would never listen to. Drinks were good; prices moderate; staff moderately friendly. Its tough to judge this place as i've only been here two or three times... its a real top of the line dive bar, is how i would sum this place up into words. Dimly lit no matter what time of day it is... the decor looks to be about 15 years old. Its kind of fun but tacky in a way lol. They have karaoke - and there are some people who you wish you were deaf and others that sing that make you feel like you're at a live show - they even broadcast the singing live on their website www.hulahula.org! I usually ride my motorcycle there so I don't get a chance to try out their drinks, i did have some quesdillas that were decent - nothing to wow over. Its really just not my scene/crowd that i prefer to drink with or around i suppose. however the waitress sandy is super cute and nice so that's a plus! perhaps when i'm drunk and done roaming around town - i'll catch a cab to hula hula so i can sing my heart out (and hope i don't close the bar down). read more
