Aloha y'all! Enjoying a prime slice of boat- or drive-in waterfront property on Lake Austin, Hula Hut has been serving some inspired Tex Mex (Polynesian infusion - check the Coconut Shrimp!) for over 25 years. Although I'm usually avoiding the temptation of chips & queso (if I'm IN, I'm ALL the way), a recent visit has proven it's possible to eat moderately healthy while still enjoying myself. Halle was bright-eyed and on it, keeping cups & baskets filled, no needs unmet, service with a smile. The Homemade Chicken Tortilla Soup is made with a rich broth, fresh cilantro and excellent avocado. With or without margaritas, you'll enjoy the food and a beautiful view!

Hula Hut Austin is a great spot with a nice lake view. The Hula Platter was delicious and definitely a highlight. Cocktails are good, and the service was good as well, making the overall experience enjoyable.

This place was pretty good. Service was quick and friendly. Cute hula decor. I ordered a bbq pork sandwich with steamed broccoli. Good flavors. A ranch water to drink. My son and his gf ordered nachos and my bestie ordered an enchilada that was the size of a burrito. Interesting menu had a mix of Mexican with an Asian flair. I would go back here.

Appetizer: Chips and Queso Entree 1: Texas Nachos! (crisp corn tortillas topped with refried beans, mixed cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo & jalapeños) Entree 2: Pipeline Enchiladas (I think this was with fajita beef) I was a bit nervous trying here, because I thought everything would have a Hawaiian twist on it, but that's not the case. Whilst enjoying the view of Lake Austin, I was also able to enjoy the food. Having great service on top of the great food was nice to have. This restaurant is right on the water where you can get a spectacular view of the lake no matter where you sit or stand.

PLEASE Read!! Baffled..I saw this restaurant HULA HUT, Austin on the show The Daytripper, told my husband about it and within hours the same day we were there. First time here the atmosphere was great, with a diverse group of people, on the water made it even better. Walked in the hostess greeted us immediately she was very kind, seated within seconds. It went down hill from there our waitress JASMINE approached the table greeted us with smile and said she would be back to take our orders, the next person that came to the table was a waiter named Miguel saying that Jasmine was going through something and she would be with us shortly. I guess shortly never came as Miguel then introduced himself as our server. We then noticed that across the table from where we were seated, JASMINE was taking orders. I guess the something she was going through was resolved, because we noticed that those 2 tables didn't have any people of "Color". At that point we begin to realize that JASMINE's problem was "Us". Needless to say our new server Miguel was "Outstanding, "Attentive" and Very nice. We enjoyed our meals order the steak fajita skillet, Shrimp enchiladas and hula hut burger delicious the fries were cold our only complaint, the drinks were good too. We will return again and recommend it, and hopefully "JASMINE"will get proper training in dealing with people of all colors. If you are a person of color and come across JASMINE hopefully she can at least "Fake" and do her job properly. Thank you Miguel for Great service.

Amazing view! Good drinks! Mid food.. Horrible parking.. I finally made a visit to this restaurant which has ample indoor and outdoor seating and was taken in by the great view! However, my food on the other hand didn't compliment these views. I ordered Montego Bay Shrimp Taco which included crispy fried shrimp with red cabbage, fresh cilantro & jalapeño-lime sauce in flour tortillas. You may as well say I ordered a red cabbage taco because the amount of cabbage on this taco was way more than what was needed. I had to make sure the shrimp were there and that they weren't trying to hide anything placed on my food. I actually didn't really enjoy my food because of this. I also ordered a frozen Watermelon Mojito which was good but the waiter brought me my drink in a broken cup. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the last cup so why even give this to a customer. He kept saying it's just missing the ring for it to close tightly but didn't replace the cup after I inquired. Nonetheless, I finished my drink without it spilling. It's not a must I go back but if I do, maybe the experience will be different. Glad I was able to check it out.

What a fun spot! This makes us feel like we are back to living in Florida. We enjoyed tiki cocktails here on a hot summer night overlooking the lake. It was so beautiful! Service was good and drinks were good, but not amazing. We are tiki drink snobs and these were just fun vacation/pool type drinks - not specialty cocktails. We each had a drink and chips and salsa and just enjoyed the weather. They also have big fans blowing which is nice. Great ambiance - will be back! Free parking across the street too!

I had a great experience at Hula Hut! The atmosphere was such a vibe; fun, relaxed, and perfect for enjoying a meal by the water. The food was delicious, with plenty of flavorful options to choose from. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

It was my friend's bday and she chose the spot. We were glad that she did. We all commented how long it had been since we visited. The weather was perfect. Who doesn't love Hula Hut on a beautiful day?!? The parking is free so you can't complain but it took a long time to find a spot. One friend even had to valet because she couldn't find a spot. At least, there is that option. :) It was a Saturday afternoon, so it was expected to be busy. There was also some sort of car show at Mozart's, which I'm sure added to the busy parking lot. The view from our table was great! The chips and salsa came out quickly. One of the best parts of our lunch was Dylan, our waiter. He was kind, funny, and responsive. He checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. He brought our friend a fun bday treat and even took a great photo of our group. I didn't get a picture of my food because I was having such a good time catching up and chatting with friends. I did get a great pic of my margarita! Next time, it won't be so long between visits. :)

Personally, the vibe at Hula Hut is great--you really can't beat the location, with outdoor seating right by the river. The food itself is pretty average. I tried the Juan Big Tacos, but wouldn't recommend them since they're a bit difficult to eat. Overall, it's a solid spot mainly for the atmosphere, and it's a bonus that Mozart's is right next door for coffee after your meal.

The food and service were good the hand made tortillas were so good and so was the chips and salsa. Super nice view with great atmosphere.

Decided to head over to Hulu Hut since the weather was beautiful on a Sunday afternoon. We were well prepared for there to be a wait and walked around the area, watched the boats and wandered down to Mozarts to listen to some live music while we waited. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive throughout our meal. She even gave my son a free tortilla when she saw us standing over by the station watching them make the tortillas while we waited for our meal. And the tortillas were delicious! Homemade, right there, and you can tell. The two salsa they brought out were yummy, the pineapple/jalapeño was my favorite. My son got the kids quesadilla with beef and it was VERY large for a kid's meal- we ended up taking 1/2 of it home. I ordered the fried avocado tacos. Again, portions were generous and the sauce on the side added even more flavor. The cabbage on top was fresh and crisp. My husband got the fajita beef enchilada and said the beef was super tender and the spices and flavor were perfect. The atmosphere is great for people watching whether you are seated inside or outside. You can tell the building has been around for a while and there is a lot of wear and tear but that's what makes it a unique Austin staple.

This place is absolutely amazing! the vibes are perfect by the water and the staff is so friendly! I ordered the chicken flautas and it was the perfect amount. the salsa is super fresh and authentic tasting! would definitely bring anyone visiting austin!

    Dogs are allowed!

Ever hour is happy hour at the Hula Hut!!!

    Dogs allowed on patio?

Based on their website, dogs are not allowed on the patio unless it's a service animal

I was genuinely excited to check this spot out and left severely underwhelmed. The good? Well, our server was attentive and nice. 10/10. The drinks were pretty on point for a tiki bar. The ambiance is primo, and it's genuinely a great place for a date to have drinks. The bad? The food was very lackluster. We ordered the following: Snow Crab Musubi: I honestly don't understand how you mess this up. The menu claims it comes with kewpie mayo (my favorite) and chives, but the quenelle of crab that was put on top of the rice was bone dry, falling apart, didn't appear to have any chives, and was served with a haggard lemon wedge. There was zero fat to coat the tongue, and it legitimately tasted like unseasoned crab with sushi rice that didn't even have a hint of acidity to it. As someone who takes pride in his work as a chef, at the $14 price point, this sort of rubbed me the wrong way. As a matter of fact, it felt borderline pretentious. This is coming from a guy whose mentor was the R&D chef of the best restaurant in the entire world. And no, I'm not being hyperbolic. I simply take pride in my work. This restaurant group actually has an R&D kitchen, and the best thing they can muster up is this half-baked dish? Do a light cold smoke on the crab, make a nice Knorr-based soy mayo for some umami, and top that f*cker with something to brighten it up. Preferably something that has synergy with... I don't know, Hawaiian BBQ. I felt like I was eating a lackluster Asian version of a Crab Louie Salad. It was absolutely bonkers. Slingin Shrimp: This honestly wasn't that bad, but the presentation and portion size could use a little love. The shrimp submarine makes it a bit awkward to eat. Butterfly the shrimp. It will sit nicely on top of the rice and give it more appeal. As mentioned before, the sushi rice had zero acidity to it and simply not well seasoned. Li'l Octo Karaage: It tasted great, but the guys in the kitchen need to know how to cook squid. It was far too chewy, which is unpleasant. This is a quality issue that could easily be remedied. I will also say the fryer oil appeared a little old because the fry itself had a fairly dark appearance. The drinks and ambiance were the only highlights. It has really cool decor and a cozy vibe to it. If you're looking to get a couple of nice drinks after dining out or you're pregaming? This is a solid spot. If you're looking to impress a date or a friend from out of town? That's going to be a nope from me, dawg. Admittedly, that crab musubi just irked me. So boring. No love. Just unfiltered nonsense that only the uninitiated would be impressed by. I actually applied to work at their R&D spot a few years back, and from the looks of it, they could use a guy like me. Again, I was very excited to finally dine at this spot. Their ramen establishments tend to be fairly on point. Their dashis are great. No idea what's going on at their tiki spot.

You choose a base such as white rice, brown rice, salad greens, or a mixed combination, then add proteins like ahi tuna, salmon, shrimp, or tofu, followed by sauces and toppings such as seaweed salad, avocado, edamame, sesame seeds, and spicy mayo. This customization makes poke approachable for new and experienced poke connoisseurs. Poke House Austin's strengths are its freshness and quality. The restaurant has high quality fish with generous portions. For new poke fans, salmon is always a good starter for new poke fans. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back, making it pleasant to linger. Poke House Austin was a great place to try poke or enjoy it on a regular basis.

He rarely demonstrates the footwork and everything combined together. He hangs out back there not fully engaged in what's going on. The dancers yell at him to show the moves but he just uses his voice and occasional arm movements. He's told other dancers to show me instead of doing it himself. Keito and his mom argue about what moves should come next. It's all very disorganized and frustrating. Dancers looking to each other a lot of the time. When bringing this to him he said I'm not a fast learner (even though him and his mom said I was) and he became very defensive. This is not the Hālau for you if you'd like the "teacher" to lead the class by demonstration as well. Getting this kind of help is like pulling teeth. Keito showed his true colors when I told him I wasn't returning. Very sad.

Poke House is a really good "go to" for a great poke bowl…read more First, the staff is always patient and really helpful! That is important when there are so many options to choose from. Patrons are making a ton of choices from all of the great options and, it can be time consuming. Today, I stopped by to pick up 2 bowls. Each had VERY different ingredients and sauces. The employee was patient and very accommodating. I was reading, off my phone, the options that my sister chose. Then, giving the options that I chose for the second bowl. He didn't skip a beat. Even more frustrating for him, I think, was asking for all of the sauces on the side. He didn't seem to mind. He graciously put all of the sauces in little cups. He also labeled them with a Sharpie. Nice touch! Before I move on with the review, I'd like to offer a suggestion for the side sauces. If you are taking your order to go, the sauce containers will ultimately tip over in the bag, on the way home. Although the containers are of good quality, the sauce often leaks out. Perhaps adding a quick wrap of Saran Wrap (or the like), would aid in keeping the multiple sauce containers from tipping over in the bag, on the way home. The fish has always tasted fresh! Not once have I eaten here and complained about the quality! Sometimes we don't want to go to a sushi restaurant to get good raw fish. It's also hard to trust a poke restaurant in a strip mall. Trust me on this, Poke House does the job! I've been to this location at least a dozen times. Not once, was I disappointed in the quality and service. I'm so glad that this place is so close to me! Job well done! When you get that tip option on the screen, do what you see fit. Please consider the patience and kindness of the person building your lunch or dinner.

Poke House is my new go-to for a healthy lunch or dinner... especially if I need to quickly grab…read moreand go! I visited on a whim but was so impressed by the fresh ingredient choices, customer service, and customizable bowl pricing. FAST FACTS: * Parking - located in a shopping center with a large parking lot * Online ordering - available for pickup on their website * Nutrition information - available on their website * Weekly specials - check their website or social media for updates * Rewards program - join for free and earn points to redeem for free bowls PRICING - The total was $32.45 after tax ($2.47) but before tip for 2 regular poke bowls (2 scoops of protein each). I think the pricing is reasonable for the quality of ingredients and portion size. Veggie bowl: $9.99 Small (1 scoop of protein): $12.49 Regular (2 scoops of protein): $14.99 Large (3 scoops of protein): $17.49 ORDERING - Place an order online for pick up or walk up to the counter to build your own bowl. You choose a base (white rice, brown rice, salad, half and half, seaweed wrap, or hot Cheetos wrap), pick a protein (number of scoops determines the size), choose a sauce, add as many mix-ins as you want, and then add toppings. PROTEINS - Choices include classic ahi tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp, tofu, and the weekly special. All of the proteins we tried were fresh and the scoops are about 2 ounces each. SAUCES - Choices include house, spicy house, Korean chili, soy ponzu, garlic miso, sweet ginger, sesame shoyu, and citrus. Descriptions and nutrition information for each can be found on their website. MIX-INS - Choices include corn, cilantro, crab, cucumber, edamame, jalapeños, onion, pineapple, red cabbage, scallions, and seaweed salad. Avocado is an extra $1.50 but you can choose any or all of the others listed included with the price of your bowl. TOPPINGS - Choices include chili flakes, furikake, garlic crisps, ginger, onion flakes, sesame seeds, shredded nori, tempura crisps, spicy mayo, wasabi aioli, and wasabi. You can choose any or all of the toppings included with the price of your bowl. I absolutely LOVE how customizable the bowls are! A lot of poke restaurants limit the number of toppings or charge extra for a majority of the items but this was pretty much all-inclusive. I was able to make my perfect bowl for one set price and left feeling full and satisfied! I randomly stopped here for dinner after searching on the map for a healthy and quick dinner option but it's now one of my favorite places! It can be hard to find nutrition information for a lot of restaurants so I absolutely love that they have it available online. If you love poke, it doesn't get much better than Poke House! Highly recommend!
