Good fries and burgers but great shakes and onion rings!! The dollar beers with the purchase of a meal is damn good too. I usually get the ortega burger because it comes topped with guacamole. They always bring you a mini sundae at the end of your meal. The staff is nice and brings your food to the table whether you sit inside or out front. They have the same menu but with slashed prices now.... Cheap food that is good food makes me happy!! read more

Everyone talks about the burgers (and they are indeed awesome) but keep in mind, they also serve a world class diner style breakfast......walk in, sit down start with a cup of joe and order two eggs, over medium, hash browns and bacon.....and your choice of toast! I just wanted to add that I have no affiliation with Hulas and it probably wasn't nice of me to be insulting to anyone. I apologize if I've been offensive, even if it was honest. I do get upset when people are judgmental of place they don't even know and spread their ignorant opinions on the internet for other unknowing people to see. Mostly, I just wanted to add that they are always polite and friendly no matter what. I sit down and am served quickly. The food is always fresh, always delicious, and always of good quality. Sometimes I have my daughter's large stroller sitting next to the table and they never seem to mind. There are always good people eating there who seem to know and love the staff. I think that shows how wonderful Hulas is. Okay, that's all. I just felt bad for calling people uppity and whatever. They should try it again. They might really Love it like most people do. If you are going to Yosemite, take a detour and eat breakfast lunch or dinner here. It is so good and everyone is so nice and HONEST !!! I left my wallet on the table and the waitress and owner shipped it back to me in Walnut Creek as I was 70 miles away when I discovered I left it. In today's world this was an astounding act of honesty and kindness. I had over $300. in the wallet, not a penny missing. I will eat there over and over again! SUUPER YUM! We have driven by this place a thousand times on our way to and from vacations, but never stopped. We did today and both had omelettes because they serve breakfast all day. Potatoes were cooked crunchy but not burnt, and I could add onions and not bell peppers (which are my culinary arch nemesis). The omelette was a great diner-type omelette and the toast was clearly not some generic old stuff they bought at Cosco. They even bring out a little serving if soft serve twist for each member of the party when dropping off the bill. The waitress was super nice and we loved chatting with her. Stopped in here for lunch simply because it was too nice a day to sit inside somewhere. We were pleased with both the food and the atmosphere. Its an older building but well maintained. There is a large inviting patio with shade, palm trees and a fountain. A few diners had dogs with them. At almost $5, I thought the kids meals sounded pricey, but they were large and came with a drink. Smaller children can easily share. A few of the adult items sounded expensive for what they were ($7.79 for a grilled ham and cheese?!), but there were plenty of other choices that sounded more reasonable. By having our 1 year old share, our family of five ate well for $25. The check came with mini soft serve ice cream for each person in our group. Overall it was a great meal and nice atmosphere with friendly service. The only reason I won't give five stars is the strange pricing. Why would a lesser sandwich like grilled ham and cheese cost two dollars more than a fried egg and bacon sandwich? There were other examples like this and I ended up choosing my meal more on price than what I was in the mood for. I understand ordering a burger because you can't afford steak, but you shouldn't have to make that choice between two similar items. read more

I pass by this place every day twice a day on my drive to and from work. You cannot help but notice the signs as you are driving, that it is coming up and they have the best burgers. I wanted to stop here for months, but I always had to rush to work or rush home. One night I had taken my daughter to work and she was hungry when I got off - perfect opportunity! We stopped at Hulas, and yes it is a little confusing when you walk in. We probably stood there by the door for a good 10 mins before a waitress hit the corner and we sat down. They have TVs facing both directions, so my daughter was able to watch spongebob while we were waiting & I watched the news (though neither tv can be heard). The waitress came and brought us drinks and took our order. I felt that they had a nice selection of burgers and I cannot remember the name of the one I tried. The food was really good. My daughter got a burger off the kids menu with all the fixins and loved it. I ordered the garlic fries with my burger - a little tooooo garlicy for my taste, but they were still good dipped in some ranch. Also they had a really good special of 50 cent beer with the purchase of a meal. Waitress was on top of refilling drinks and checking on things. At the end of the meal, they bring you a small ice cream sundae that is included with every meal. This thrilled my daughter like nothing else in the world could, lol. The price was comparable to any diner and we were there in the winter, so no complaints about the climate! My daughter did need to use the restroom, and though it wasn't the cleanest, it definately wasn't like a gas station =) Over all, I would definately dine here again and bring the whole family this time! read more

Ok, this is way overdue, but I have to share what a great experience I had at Hula's a few of weeks ago. My mother-in-law and I were coming back from SFO after a few days in Palm Springs and due to our flight getting in after 6:30 pm and us wanting to get back to Twain Harte as soon as possible we drove straight from the airport heading East. Well, by the time we got to Escalon, we were pretty hungry and saw that Hula's was still open so, we stopped. Ok, so it was 10 minutes to 9 on a Saturday night and Melissa, Olivia, and Marco (I think that's right) were closing up for the night. We asked if we could still get a burger and they were very gracious and sweet even though it was obvious they had been preparing to close up. Not for a second did I feel like I was holding them up from getting out of there and Melissa even offered us our (free) ice cream (we would have never known). It was by far the best customer service I have had in a long time. They all deserve a raise! Oh and by the way, the burger was phenomenal too! I had the double cheeseburger and it was AMAZING! The beef patties are huge and delicious. Came with fries. The only complaint i would have is that they should make their own ranch dressing because is wasn't too good. But that is not stopping me from leaving 5 stars because the burger was THAT GOOD. Playing at the park with my son on Labor Day and thought, "This is the perfect day for all-American food!" We drove down and grabbed a classic Hula Burger, fries and a peanut butter milkshake. Just as good or even better than back yard BBQ'ing and a lot faster. The peole were very nice and the milkshake was 1/4 gone before we got home to eat the rest of our meal. We were driving back from Kennedy Meadows and wanted In N' Out, but we saw Hula's on the side of the road and it looked pretty good. I ordered the bacon burger, and it was amazing! The shakes are also really good, and the service is decent. The complimentary soft serve was nice to have. We stopped here on a Friday on our way to Yosemite. My husband and kids were hungry but we didn't want to eat any fast food. So I used YELP as a guide and it led us to this little gem. Although it took is a while to find it when we did we were glad. The food was amazing everything was made really well. We ordered their famous knockout burger with hula fries, chicken strips and a bacon cheese burger. Everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was also very friendly and inviting. We stopped in for a quick bite and it was anything but. We got there and a gentleman was sitting there looking agitated and said to us "would you like my table cuz I been sitting here for 10.minutes and no one served me?" Then he left. It was confusing because people were being served in the patio area but some people were also walking up to the window to order. We didn't get our drinks we had to keep asking for them and we finally got them towards the end of our meal. We had originally had our food ordered to go but we were getting hungrier by the moment so we decided to eat there. We think our food may have been sitting a while because our buns were soggy and fries were warm, not hot just warm boarderline cold. We never got checked on,we had to get their attention if we needed anything. The food was ok. We are now on the road and I just opened my daughter's drink cup and there's gnats floating around her sprite. I opened my husband's cup and yep...gnats in there too. read more
