The process is simple: you arrive and check out the dogs/cats that are available from…read morerescues/shelters around the state; find one and play with them; fill out the paperwork and pay $30; and you're on your way with a new pup. I can see how this can be an issue for those that are cautious about ensuring that the animals are going to a good home, but on the flip side, it's a great event that helps to find permanent houses for most of the animals (just an assumption). This year, I went on both days. The first day I arrived 2ish hours after they had opened and nearly all of the pups were gone that were what I was looking for. I wanted to go back the next day to check it out, thinking that more pups would have been brought in - not the case at all. Cats were still in abundance both days. I got there right on time and they had nearly no new dogs from the last time. Sadly, there were all nearly Pits too. Even worse, my apartment complex doesn't allow Pits. I love the idea but hope that next year, even more dogs are brought in on the 2nd day so they can find their forever homes. The volunteers are great too. They usually didn't know most of the answers to the questions you had because they were simply volunteers, so that might be something to improve on next year. Instead of having the volunteers taking you and your possibly furry friend to the "meet and greet" stations, have one of the staff members from the shelters/rescues there so that you can get your questions answered while you're getting to know them. That was one major flaw I had. Every question I had wasn't able to be answered. Big props to the volunteers though!

THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL EVENT…read more I cannot stress enough that if you are looking for a cat or dog, GO TO INDY MEGA. I would highly suggest going earlier in the event too because animals get adopted quickly!!! All the adoptable animals are up-to-date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. They cost $30 for adoption and they are ready to go to their furrever homes!! A lot of the shelters too offer vets that give free wellness checks or 30 days of free pet care insurance. (FYI: most vets will give you a free first visit if you adopted from a shelter). DOGS: One thing that I do want to caution about: A lot of the dogs are pitbulls or pit bull mixes. I have NOTHING against Pits; I love them. What I want to specifically bright to light is that a lot of these dogs had to go to an only pet home and were not good with kids. As a cat lady, this doesn't really work with my family. There a lot of other dogs who are not like this but I just want people to know this because there are a lot of dogs who need some love in a single pet/no kid home. I KNOW there are people out there who can do this for these animals. I heard that all the dogs got adopted except one the last time this event was held. AMAZING!!!! CATS: WOW. So many cats at Indy Mega. I think hundreds and maybe thousands of cats. I came at the end of the event and was leaving when I found the MOST perfect kitten who I just knew belonged to me and needed to come home! There was only 20 minutes left in the event but I was not rushed into the decision at all. The volunteers helped me visit with the cat, listened, and helped me through the decision making process without pushing me into adopting. If the volunteers didn't know the answer to my questions, they directed me to someone who could. The adoption process of my new cat was so easy. Took about 10 minutes. The greatest part is all the stuff they sent me home with. I got coupon books for both Petco and PetSmart. I got TONS of toys and treats. They gave me some wet food and a wet food can cover. I even got a bucket for free 10 pound box of litter (so helpful) and the bucket can be reused so I can go back for more discounted litter at Petco (I think). They really set you up for success. They want these pets to go to great homes. I couldn't be more thankful for such an amazing event. Great job Indy!!! and PLEASE check this event out even if you are just considering getting a pet.

My dog loves the days she spends at Zionsville Country Kennel. I know that because when she sees…read morethat I'm there to pick her up, she turns around and runs back into the camp facilities. She loves the other dogs but really loves the staff, which assures me that they give her plenty of attention and love while she's there. It is so comforting to know that those I trust to care for my dog when I'm away from home love on her and make her days as happy as those she spends with me.

Aug 2026 I left 3 dogs on Tues picked up on Thurs. They were not overly anxious nor thirsty when…read morethey came home. Knowing my dogs this means they were feeling ok. I left one day's food for each dog. It was returned to me at pick up. None of the dogs ate anywhere near an appropriate amount. Nothing was said about this. I weigh their food so I can tell to the ounce what they consumed. The medicine provided was gone so I will presume it was administered. Not eating much one day is not terrible but I should have been told. My low score is due to the billing pratices. I found three different brochures in their lobby. Only one brochure includes printed prices for services. It states $47.50 per night exactly the same wording as their website. I never asked about the cost when I booked the 3 runs, I needed the service and they have a very attractive facility. The charge at register was $120 more than I expected. The reason is they have an unposted policy of charging $40 per dog if you pickup after 12:30 pm. I had asked when I made the appointment when was drop off time and pick up time, I asked again the day before drop-off, and I called to clarify that they were well on Wed and stated I would be picking up around 2 pm Thurs. Never once in 3 person to person interactions, was I told of this extra fee only that they opened at 8 am, I could come any time before 5:30 pm and they needed to be picked up by 5:30 pm. Caleb (a manager?) told me it was a known policy but agreed to waive the fee this time. He mentioned recent changes over the last few months, that they charge per day not per night, if I had them groomed there is no afternoon pickup charge, that it was a clearly stated pricing, but he had nothing anywhere in the lobby or at the checkout counter to show me that. When I returned home, I read the reviews here and other sites. Mentions of this unusual pricing policy goes back much further than a few months. I will say the care for my dogs seemed ok. If I must use them in the future, I will request a written estimate of all charges and potential penalties before my trip to avoid these surprises.
