I have had several great experiences at Lyons Den power yoga in Chelsea. The first time I had a hard time locating it but once you get over that, it's totally fine. The space is straightforward. The lobby is a little bit tight if the classes packed, but generally speaking everything that you need is here and the facility is extremely clean. They have lockers that have a lock included for personal belongings. Lyons Den has been around for such a long time (longer than most studios), so I do tend to trust their teachers a lot more in the heat, and they all seem to have a really strong Teacher training background. Great cueing, great music, great sequence (which for the most part is a fixed sequence with a few variations left up to the instructor as this is a studio in the Baptiste method/tradition). She keeps a watchful eye on everyone and calls people out in a good way ("Rachel, lean forward", "three of you stop looking at your watch"). I have come to this studio two other times and while the sequence is consistent, the experience varies based on the instructor's energy and the music they choose. Sarah is great too. Staff is friendly and the place is clean. Mats and blocks are cleaned after each use. It's expensive. A drop-in class was $35 and included towels a month ago when I last visited NYC, and now it's $38 plus $5.50 towel rental fee. read more

Lyons Den recently opened this second studio in the city, offering a great alternative to their hugely popular Tribeca location. Go here if you want to practice yoga in a perfectly maintained, clean setting with an inviting community of teachers and fellow practitioners. You will come to realize quickly that it is refreshingly different from most yoga studios in the city, at least along three dimensions -- the degree of inclusiveness, quality of instruction and level of individual attention. And you are sure to get a good workout. I hope to practice more often, notwithstanding my travel schedule, and will be sure to visit this studio from time to time, even as I continue with the Tribeca location as my mainstay. read more

I adore Lyons Den for my yoga fix! The studio is on the second floor of the building. Upon walking in, you'll notice how bright and cleanly lit the space is. There is only one studio, and it is really spacious. The windows let a lot of light in, so if you prefer dark studios of the like of Y7, just make note of it. I've only ever gone to morning classes, and there is always more than enough room to accommodate everyone. The teachers here are incredible! I have loved all of them, especially the ones that really focus on breathing. The classes are challenging as far as yoga goes, and I always work up a good sweat. You can bring your own mat and towel to the studio or rent them there. They offer complimentary hand towels. Because the studio is on the second floor of a building on 8th ave, you'll actually hear traffic, but it's not too distracting. Highly recommend! read more

aIs it possible to give more than FIVE STARS?! I am not a yoga person. I'm a runner. BUT Lyons Den has totally converted me! I've even trained for a marathon on Lyons Den (and ran a PR at 3:22). The community was warm and welcoming from day one. This yoga studio is so much more than that - the Den has become my second home in this crazy city. All instructors challenge me (and I have high standards on this). The tunes are perfectly paired with each flow. The studio is pristine - also something I value. You can show up with literally nothing - mats, towels, water, clean locker rooms with anything you could ever need - right there for you! More importantly, show up exactly as you are. This is a consistent theme at the Den. It is YOUR practice. Time for you to do your thing. No distractions. You can literally feel the support in the room. Highly, highly recommend!! And Bethany Lyons - no words. She is the actual QUEEN - the flow, her feedback, etc. She is so attuned to everyone in the room that I've often called her a mind reader. Run. I'm often in New York for work or tourism (for friends or family who haven't been) so I never really had the time to enjoy NYC as a "local." I finally had a week to myself - no work, no need to entertain - and flew to NYC to just roam and enjoy the less touristy sides of the city. And as I was looking for a yoga studio, I stumbled upon Lyons Den! So glad I did. For someone who was only stopping in for a week (I went in just about every day), I was welcomed authentically to the space and the practice. The studio itself is very clean, and I actually love that there are no mirrors so you can focus on being and feeling in your own physical body (vs seeing). Every instructor for the sessions I joined were fantastic, warm, and helpful and the different themes to the sessions made for great variety depending on what you like / what you're looking for. After my week in NYC with Lyons Den, I can say that I truly miss it! If I ever moved to the big apple, it certainly would be my yoga spot of choice. Thank you to the staff and vision of Lyons Den! WOW AM I FEELING IT TODAY! My fiancé, coworker and I went here last night. We walked about 20 blocks from our hotel because she said she's gone there before. This was my first city yoga experience. First of all, awesome studio. Clean, lockers, friendly and AMAZING staff. Showers, multiple bathrooms and option to rent a mat. Power yoga!!! I've been to a few hot yoga classes before, I wouldn't recommend this for a true beginner. This class was HOT! Overall great instruction and it's really a great addition when there's staff helping with positions. Would come here all the time if I lived in the city. I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the new absolutely beautiful Chelsea studio today. What a lovely experience! The location is quite central and easy to find as there is a bright red sign that's hard to miss as you walk towards the studio. The staff here is beyond incredible. I was so kindly greeted upon entering. John, the co-owner showed me around the space and introduced me to the teacher Nicky. The space itself is gorgeous and has such a welcoming tone to it. There are showers/lockers and anything you could need to attend a yoga class. As far as pricing I went with the $99 New student package which is unlimited for the month. There are of course other options, but this deal seemed the best for me! Now, as far as the class itself, it was truly inspiring and such an extraordinary practice. After long travels and such the class felt so rejuvenating. The instructor Nicky, was intentional and empowering teacher. I would completely recommend trying one of the classes. People into hot (read: sauna) yoga will love it - but it was way too hot for me - and I'm from downunder!

This studio is AMAZING. It is beyond clean, the entire staff is so welcoming, and the classes themselves are WORTH IT. It's hard to go to these boutique shops and really feel like you're getting what you came for - I've been going to Lyons Den for about 3 weeks now, have tried a handful of the instructors, and they are all amazing. There range from super hard, to basic, but regardless they encourage you to listen to your body and do what feels right. The instructors are there to help and support you, and man do you SWEAT!!! The Power Beats class is awesome - it's yoga to a sweet playlist that keeps your going during the intense power flows (which are fast, and many reps). Highly recommend this studio for hot yoga - it's a great workout and you leave feeling really awesome. read more

While I now live in Washington, D.C., I am often back in NYC for weeklong work trips. Sitting inside an office for days in a row makes me feel physically stagnant, so I try to remain active during work trips to the best of my ability. Usually that means going for a jog, but my colleague is a regular at Lyons Den Power Yoga - Chelsea and recently invited me to skip my jog and join her one morning or evening. I had never done hot or power yoga before, but after going twice with her, I am now hooked. I have to admit I was nervous before my first time, but I was so warmly welcomed by the Lyons Den staff, and supported by the instructors, that my inhibitions faded away and I was able to get into the flow. And when I say get into the flow, I mean get my ass kicked. In the best possible way. It's a phenomenal workout. So much so that I had to stop midway through my first time for a few minutes to catch my breath. There was judging, criticism, etc. Just understanding, and a helpful hand from the instructor when I re-started. If I lived in NYC, I'd go here regularly. As it is, for now I'm happy if I get there once a month. PS I'm told their gym/shower facilities are excellent, though I have not used them yet. read more

I was first introduced to the Lyons Den through the free classes offered in Bryant Park. It was quite honestly the BEST class I had ever been to in Bryant Park. At the end of the session, all yogis were offered one free class with Lyons Den. I ended up taking a hot yoga class the past week and I am so glad I went! The staff and instructor, Bethany (I believe she is the owner), are amazing/incredible. The front desk staff were so friendly and accommodating, especially when I had to leave the class from feeling too light-headed. Myself and a few others were provided cold towels and drinks to help us cool down. The space itself is really nice. Lockers and showers are available (no need to bring your own lock though), and the studio is spacious. Complimentary towels are also offered (nice touch!). If you're in the area and looking to take a yoga class, definitely stop by here! read more

I recently did the 30-day unlimited, $99.00 new student special.., and it was such a GREATTTTTT decision. You are able to attend both Lyon's Den Power Yoga Studios (Chelsea and Tribeca)... and go as many times as you want. The instructors at both locations are all incredibly wonderful, talented, intentional and caring. They will catch your name as you attend their first class and never forget it. Everyone at the front desk is soooo kind (especially Tom and Zack, I LOVE THEM!!) and I truly look forward to seeing them before and after my classes. The classes are structured so well, are challenging, always hot (even the first class in the AM) and leave opportunity for growth, which most power-type yogas do not. There are showers, lockers, coat racks and all amenities that you would need. I just... LOVEEEEE this studio so much and really feel at home at the Chelsea studio... more so than any gym / yoga studio I've ever been to. read more
