Beautiful yoga studio on the 7th floor of an old New York building. Humble skyscraper-like views overseeing three directions of the city. Down-to-earth vibes while up in the sky. Each instructor has their unique teaching style and most are very helpful and proactive towards the students. I learned something new every single time - like the importance of different breathing styles and ohms, wall-suported hand stands, incorporating heat and tapping. Stand out classes were Brian Peoples' intense and enthusiastic strong yoga, Lulu's sexy and inspiring version, Bonnie's flossing yoga (dynamic sets of fluid motion to "floss" out joints/muscles), and the elusive Krissy (enlightened traveler and cofounder). Also loved most of the other instructors (Faye, Amber, Beth, Francesca). Bonnie's charity pelvis-focused yoga class ($10+ donation) for women's health was a unique experience with a knowledgeable instructor. Classes are around $30 per class. Note that their phone number doesn't ring through, so you have to book online on the Mind Body app. They also offer different passes for newcomers so take advantage. Plenty of equipment including good mats, yoga blocks, blankets, belts, and sandbags included. Two bathrooms to change, and a water fountain inside. Ring the bell outside the nondescript, shady entrance, try the door in a few seconds since it doesn't give an alert when open. Then take the elevator to the 7th floor straight into the studio. Shoes off. Great sunlight during daytime classes and plenty of fresh air from windows. They probably use the AC during the hotter summer days. I miss the OG Chinatown studio, but the new one several blocks over is beautiful as well. Getting into the studio can be a bit of a bitch -- you wade through the crowd of people waiting for the Chinatown bus outside, buzz in downstairs (for some reason, there's no noise to indicate when someone has buzzed you in, so you just have to keep pulling on the door), then take the very slow elevator (not always operational) to the 7th floor. But when the doors open up, it's heaven up here. The Chinatown studio gets great light, the studio is brimming with plant life, and the ceiling is beautifully embossed. Same great selection of props and Jade mats as the other locations. read more

Sky Ting wears that Chinatown-cool vibe well. You know, with the white-washed space, and the plants, and the products-as-decoration, and the minimalism, and the black boards with the white letters. It almost feels a little too cool, until you go upstairs to their cool studio with its view of the Brooklyn Bridge and its giant stuffed giraffe and one of their lovely teachers completely wrecks your sh*t. I've been to Sky Ting a few times now and it's always challenging in a different way. This isn't a sweat-your-heart-out, fast-paced vinyasa, but instead a thoughtful practice often focused on one body part or meditation. It seems more katonah style, with intense stretching. My most recent session, a Friday daytime class with Maya, was focused on opening the upper body and cleansing the liver for spring. Every instructor I've had really knows what they're doing and seem more like real people than the typical bubbly yoga teacher type. I think the word I'm looking for is grounded. Their practice isn't adjustment-heavy but the few that they do are great. They also offered a lot of variations for people who were struggling. Music is so good, with lots of charming oldies. Bathrooms are clean and beautiful. Mat rental is free and they do a decent job keeping them clean. They have hooks and cubbies for coats, as well as lockers (BYO lock). I book via Classpass but it seems like their standalone rates are reasonable. This isn't my regular as it's a bit of a trip from my place, but on a weekend it can't be beat as you're steps away from all that Chinatown and Two Bridges has to offer after your wonderful yoga experience. I've been meaning to get my butt here since it opened more than 18 months ago, but given that the city has so many options for yoga, I didn't make it here until tonight. I'm still riding my newbie pass, which is $20 for unlimited 2 weeks of classes. Tonight I took the 7:30pm class with Grace Dubery. I arrived a bit early and was greeted by a friendly receptionist and her lovely adorable dog, Dexter. Dexter is a Pomeranian and irresistible. I couldn't stop petting him. He was so furry and since it was so could out, I had this intense urge to cuddle with him. But I restrained myself and walked over to the bathroom to change into my yoga clothes. They have opted only to have bathrooms and a unisex changing room. As long as they don't have high traffic, this arrangement will work out fine. They have a lounge area with a nice comfy one seater in the corner. Also, there are a few stuffed giraffes hanging around, which is a real nice addition. The interesting thing about this studio is that the actual yoga practise room is one flight of stairs up, which you enter once you're inside the studio. Unique concept and I found it to be nice to have a large room to practice. It was cold tonight and they had it well heated. Grace's class was solid. I was probably a bit more advanced than most folks in the class, but that didn't matter because I ended up sweating and getting a good workout. I also really enjoyed the music and there is a kick-ass view of the Manhattan Bridge from the room. Sky Ting has done a fantastic job with the space and it is a sanctuary in a busy part of Chinatown. I am definitely coming back for more classes and so happy to finally make it and I'm pretty psyched about how close it is to home! read more

Came here with my friend yesterday for a yoga and chill class. The space is on the 7th floor and the elevator lets you right out into the main space, which houses the check-in desk and cubbies for your things. There are two generously sized bathrooms and a changing room which is nice. The studio itself is bright and airy with lots of windows and a cute stuffed giraffe in the corner. The class was great; challenging and yet relaxing at the same time. I would definitely come back here again! read more

I took a class today at Sky Ting and I must say I was very impressed. Yoga tends to have the opposite effect on me, instead of feeling calmer, I get a bit agitated. But not here! I really did feel a lot calmer and at peace. The studio offers manduka (super high quality!) mats for free and the space is very simple. I love the giraffes, I think they add to the calm and peaceful feel. They offer lockers, but you must bring your own lock or there is a table in the classroom where you can set your bag on. My instructor was Krissy and it was such a great session. It was a good blend of challenging poses and restorative stretches. Time felt like it passed by pretty fast which hardly ever seems the case when I do yoga. I love how they went around the room to realign and correct your form. Also I liked the length of time for the savasana. I never thought I would rave about a yoga class, so definitely 5 stars! read more

This space is absolutely beautiful. Light and clean and simple and rad. Came to check it out after learning from founders Chloe and Krissy at a different studio. These girls definitely know what they're talking about. They combine a lot of unique movement with a little bit of breathing exercises and killer adjustments. It's definitely different from the work out oriented yoga most people have tried. But you still sweat in a different way - opening up the body in challenging ways. I could see it being intimidating for someone who has never done yoga. It has a very cool friend group vibe. But just let them know you're new. It's awesome they have mats for you there. First time taking a katonah style yoga class and I didn't love how all the poses felt super rushed, I could barely go from plank to downward facing dog and other moves; the speed didn't feel like it was giving me any cardio benefit either. Part of the reason I didn't like it was also the instructor...his tone of voice sounded elitist and flat. I usually love yoga because of the mindfulness associated with the practice but came out of this feeling unrefreshed and not more calm. Interesting class and space. I checked out their Meditation/Pranayama class today and as soon as you hit their front door on the 4th floor, there's a sign to take off your shoes. Then right by the door, there are cubby holes for your shoes and fish hooks to hang your jackets, etc. There appeared to be some type of lounge space and after checking in, you turn left and there are 2 single W/Cs. Then, you go through an outdoor stairwell to go to the 5th floor into the studio space. As soon as I walked in, my nose was hit with this wave of sweat and stank and body odor. I wish a window would have been open to air out the place. I have not been to other studios where you are hit with such a foul smell (unless it's bikram/hot yoga). They say your nose gets used to any odor after 7 minutes, so after awhile I didn't notice it anymore. The format of the meditative class was interesting; I would consider coming back again only if I were in the area. It's otherwise too out of my way and not worth it when I frequent other yoga studios that I really like. Tips: they have tiny lockers that you can store your purse in if you wanted to bring a lock. Otherwise, you can bring your bag into the room with you (they don't mind that at least). No need to bring your mat as they have them available. You can buy water or just bring your own. read more

I can finally touch my toes! For someone who was a total yoga noob discovering Skyting was a life changer. I almost gave up and written off yoga. Then I took a class on a summer Friday evening in 2016 and was hooked ever since. Very glad to have found this yoga studio. There were so many internal and external Aha! moments for the first few months I lost count. The three locations are very easily accessible by public transportation which is a major plus coming straight from work or commuting from home on weekends. The view in the new Chinatown location is absolutely stunning especially when you take a class while the sun is setting. Plus all the food options available and other activities around the area like Gotham Archery a few blocks away. A real hidden gem I find is sometimes Skyting holds a HIIT/yoga class run by either Krissy or Chloe with Kirsty Godso. That perfect blend of power in explosive and gentle form is euphoric. read more

Located on the edge of Chinatown, Sky Ting isn't exactly easy to reach for most people. But, as soon as you walk through the studio, you are transported to a peaceful world filled with light, mellow music, friendly staff and an incredible yoga space. The staff was friendlier than most studios, making me feel at home and welcome even when I arrived sweaty and out of breath. Unlike many studios, Sky Ting includes mats and towels, so students don't have to worry about lugging theirs or shelling out extra cash to rent. Apart from the space and the friendly space, the primary thing that sets Sky Ting apart from the rest is the yoga space. After checking in you head back outside and ascend an outdoor staircase to the fifth floor studio. Skylights and large windows allow light to flow through and illuminate the bright white walls and wood floor. The only thing that fills the space other than light is a tall giraffe, which provides levity to any yoga class. The owners Krissy Jones and Chloe Kernaghan who both previously taught at Yoga Vida, teach a unique yoga style known as Katonah yoga. The method brings together traditional hatha yoga, pranayama breathing techniques and strong vinyasa sequences. This mix allowed me to go from sweating and breathless to calm within just moments when I took Chloe's class last week. Her yoga style and epic playlist quickly helped me realize why after only two weeks, the yoga studio is filling the Monday night class to capacity. The only thing I must point out, is that even though I enjoyed the class and left feeling less stressed and standing a bit taller, is that I didn't feel that I fit in. This sounds silly as New York City is filled with all types of yogis. But, in this Monday evening class, I felt as if I was at a modeling or actress audition. The majority of women in the class were taller, slimmer and tanner than me while having a California cool persona. Don't get me wrong, that won't keep me from going back to Sky Ting but it's something I do feel I should point out in case that isn't your crowd or style. Their schedule includes both 60 and 90 minute classes at just about any hour you could want! They have six classes Monday through Friday and three classes on Saturday and Sunday. If you're in town on a weekend, I've heard that their Saturday and Sunday duo instructor classes with the founders, Krissy and Chloe, are wonderful! Since I've moved to New York City, I have been on a hunt for a yoga studio. I tried Sky Ting yoga through Classpass because some of my favorite bloggers go here. I am a beginner yogi and their Sky Ting Yoga class was perfect for me. We do not stay in our poses for too long, so sometimes it felt more like a cardio workout! I ended up loving this studio way too much that I bought their 50-pack classes. Mat rentals are also free, so that worked out well for me because I don't want to have to carry my yoga mat during my commute. Ps. They have the cutest giraffe doll watching you do yoga! I love this studio so much! I am so happy to have discovered it through ClassPass, and I know I'll be going as much as I can. A lot of the yoga classes I've been to in New York tend to blend together - the same sequences, the same vibe, the same music. It can get a little repetitive & boring. But Sky Ting is totally different! For starters, the studio is SO beautiful. It's really minimalistic, but the lighting is perfect - so many windows + the skylight. On one side, there's an amazing view outside the window. I've been to two classes so far. The first one was on a Thursday morning with Krissy. The music was so good, and the sequences were definitely really unique from your average yoga studio. It was a workout for sure, but there were also some very relaxing moments. Krissy was really helpful and made some adjustments. If I had one complaint, it would be that the class was a little overcrowded. They also let people come in after we had already started, so there was some mat readjusting during a period that should have been really peaceful. The Monday morning class with Kate was perfect in every way. It was a smaller class, so Kate was able to give us all a lot of individualized attention. Her adjustments were some of the best that I've received in any yoga class ever and really helped me get deeper into poses. The sequence was completely different from the one with Krissy, and I enjoyed both of them equally & appreciated that they were different! The classes during peek times can be pretty crowded where your mat is right next to someone else's which prevents you from practicing certain poses. I'm not a big fan of Katonah yoga, but most of the teachers are nice. The front desk signs you in a timely manner. The cleanliness varies. Sometimes the floor is really clean, other times there's a ton of hair and bits of pieces of debris on the floor. I love that there are Jade mats provided. For classes that have a lot of students that sign up they even place the mats out for us. This helps a lot with organization especially to prevent us from having to ask another student to move their mat. It can be annoying to physically get to the studio. The streets are dirty and smell like garbage. There are people waiting for buses outside with their luggage and they clog the sidewalk. The elevator is slow and I'd recommend using the stairs when you're leaving. read more

However, things got a whole lot more interesting--and innovative--when SkyTing opened up its doors back in July as the new go-to spot for Yoga. The downtown NYC scence is a mecca for the dedicated yogi. Yes there are a lot of studios and people practicing. But like everything else in New York, the style and vibe of each studio and class differs dependent on the neighborhood or borough. Co-owners Krissy Jones and Chloe Kernaghan are curating the experience. It's the kind of space you'll want to drop by, plunk down in the cushy seated area, take in their rotating gallery of art, and dig into some Dimes (nutritious bites they offer onsite) while sipping on an Evian. Just outside the boutique/lounge lies the stairway to heaven where the classes take place. The decor's strictly no-frills: Light wood floors, white exposed brick walls, and lots of windows. Which is good, because we could all use more of those in our lives. Oh and don't mind the giant stuffed giraffe that lives in the corner, appropriatley named Sky G. Raff, he's chill. Why you ask? Well I say, why the hell not? And as for the workout.... If you've always been the type to color outside the lines. You consider speed limits a friendly suggestion and white after Labor Day--well, you'll just see how you feel in September. Then Katonah yoga's your jam. The method brings together traditional Hatha yoga, pranayama breathing techniques and strong vinyasa sequences. There is a lot of imagery cueing to help move the mind through the body, and deepen the understanding of the individual poses. I took a mid-afternoon class with Krissy Jones. Her practice was very visual, which I found helpful considering if it's not a pigeon, warrior I, downward dog or child's pose you're asking me to do I'll probably look at you like you have three heads. She demonstrated what she wanted us to do, how she wanted us to do it, and explained why we were doing it. Krissy's playful, lighthearted demeanor throughout the class was refreshing. There's an easy coolness about her, and her quirky cues that's pretty hard not to like or make you smile at least once. "Sit back with your hips over your heels, stretch out your arms and look forward. Stretching out like a dog. Aw dogs!" She explains that she's into everything fitting together, not contortion. "If you're doing contortion you should be getting paid, because it will do a number on your body." The class was challenging, but in a very achievable way as she guided us through each step making sure to warmup the body just enough to reach the next level. It's ok to fall. No wrong moves here. Pick yourself up again and again, and then go with the flow. One of my favorite parts was at the end when she said, "Breathe in a circuit. Inhale fire from the belly up through the back of the body to the top of your head. Exhale like rain out of the front of the body into your open palms." It made sense, and it felt damn good. My take away from the experience... A good reminder that perfection is too heavy a burden to carry. It's such a relief to embrace the idea of being perfectly imperfect. All too human. However you want to think of it, it's a total liberation. They have 15 instructors, and offer about 36 classes per week. Krissy and Chole also co-teach a class on Saturday morning and Sunday evening which fills to about 40 people (the room holds 45 max). This place is going to rock your boat. Today was my first time at Sky Ting and boy, has it left an impression! The studio is a bit out of the way (it's only a few blocks away from the entrance to the Manhattan bridge), but it's close to the Grand Street train station which made it easy for my commute home. The front desk staff were super inviting and made the check in process so easy being that it was my first time there. They let me know that there is one changing room, two bathrooms, cubbys for your personal belongings, and the studio was through a door and up 2 short flights of stairs. The studio was all-over clean and they also provide you mats and props. My instructor moved at a comfortable pace and came around to adjust yogis who needed adjustments. The music was on point, the air conditioner made the packed room pleasant to practice in (especially since it was 90 degrees outside) and the skylight was the cherry on top! read more

Upscale yoga meets grizzly Chinatown. Sky Ting is a modern interpretation of yoga and gives a welcome alternative to the sweaty "gym-style yoga" and the cultish "Indian-style yoga" that is so prevalent elsewhere in the city. The yoga room is large, light and airy with near-panoramic views over the Brooklyn Bridge. Coincidentally, I took a walking tour over the Brooklyn Bridge in the morning. It was amazing to spend the afternoon at this studio and see sunset over the same structure that I had walked on just hours earlier. Beautiful studio in Chinatown - best part about it is you can walk down to grab some post-yoga pho or to Hong Kong supermarket for awesome Asian snacks. The instructor was super helpful - he was very hands on, and seemed to come around to help out or attend to anyone who was struggling with some of the more complicated poses. Definitely not the typical vinyasa flow that I'm used to in studios in New York, it was much slower. As a 'workout' it wasn't as strenuous as other studios I've been to, but it was a great mind refresh and involved a lot of different props, which is something I've never really tried before. The space is very light filled and Instagrammable, they have free mats you can borrow and separate changing rooms. read more

Love this studio and space! The check-in staff is so nice and inviting. They make the most of the space they have, the bathrooms are lovely and the yoga studio itself is also very lovely. Every class I've been to here has always been full and the room can get rather toasty. But, what can you do? It's a popular spot. So far, I've only taken the Katonah Yoga classes with Adrian (who is truly a force of nature), but, plan to try their other classes in the future. Oh, and the giraffes are awesome! read more

Realllllly beautiful space that's totally unexpected in the middle of Chinatown. Took a Friday morning class with Krissy - which I loved and would definitely come back to. I'm pretty committed to a hot power vinyasa type practice, so didn't know what to expect with Katonah, but I loved Krissy's class and teaching style. I learned some new transitions, flows, and postures, and also got a great workout. The other reviews have already mentioned the vibe of the place...which, yeah - there's definitely that 'cool girl' feel. It was a little annoying at first because it's just so incongruous to the practice of yoga. I love when you walk into a class and the teacher takes a few minutes to welcome the new students and speak to everyone. Not so much with this class, BUT everyone was really open and inviting when I introduced myself as new. Thought it was great that they provided mats and rugs. A little odd that they charged for towels (at least as of September 2015). Evian is available for purchase. Need to bring your own lock for the lockers. read more

Lovely class with Theodora! Unfortunately, I was a few minutes late because of an issue with the elevator -- it would not move, even after pushing the button. The first time I called, no one answered, so I assumed the teacher was the only one working. A Chinese man who seemed to work for the building told me I'd need a key to use the elevator (what?). I eventually got upstairs after calling again, and a lady came down with the elevator. It's in a very old and dirty building (it's Chinatown, so I understand it's inevitable). The studio, however, is well-kept. I will have to check out Sky Ting's TriBeCa location! read more

This is certainly one of the most stunning yoga studios I've been to. In fact, I would love to live there. It's really special - big windows everywhere (that let in a lot of sunlight), a massive giraffe in the corner, plants, and a very, very clean, bright, and minimalistic interior that I dig. I actually traveled from Brooklyn to take a class because it's been on my radar for a while. Although the location is a bit of a pain for most, it's worth it! If I lived nearby, I would come all the time. I love that mats are provided and drop-in rate ($20) is reasonable, and they're also on ClassPass. The teacher lineup is amazing, too. I've taken a number of them, including the co-owners, at Yoga Vida and various studios around NYC. And the teaching style seems to vary from teacher to teacher, which keeps things interesting. I've only taken one class with Jenn, but it was a very slow and challenging class with lots of hands-on adjustments. It didn't have as many vinyasas as I normally prefer, but she had great alignment cues and a calming energy overall. I can't wait to practice here again! read more

This studio is great. As soon as you walk in you know the this is a welcoming, relaxed little sanctuary in the middle of China Town. The studio is clean with hardwood floors, many windows and a giraffe statue up front. I took a Tuesday night at 730PM with a female instructor and a Saturday class with a male instructor; both instructors were excellent but very different. The guy was into to teaching the basics for poses all the way through to very advanced moves. A flow class with breaks for more advanced poses. The lady did a great flow class as well. I definitely enoyed this class and wll return. read more

Tried this studio on a whim and will not be returning. The good-- the instructor I had was lovely, and the studio itself is beautiful. The bad-- everything else. The building and location are awful. I'm talking gross, dilapidated surroundings. Once you fight your way through the crowd of rowdy people waiting for the cheap coach buses directly outside the door, you have to buzz in. There is no noise letting you know they've opened the door, so you kind of just keep yanking until it opens. Then you call the elevator, who's button does not stay lit when you press to call it. Is it on its way? Is it broken? Who knows. Then you step in, and it takes you a solid minute to slowly crawl up to the 7th floor while you wonder if you're actually trapped. Inside the studio every time someone buzzes in, you hear the very loud BEEEEEP. I can't imagine how disruptive and annoying that must be if you're meditating or in savasana. My other huge gripe with this place is that the mats (which are pre-set) were placed SO close together, I could hardly move. We weren't even a full class, and I was kicked by both the person in front of me and the person to my left. Like, completely packed on top of each other. I understand that they want to maximize how many people can attend each class, but if they would just remove even one mat from each row and stagger them a little, it would help. Another minor #firstworldproblem annoyance- no water cooler. I've never been to a fitness facility, let alone one this pricey, that didn't have one of these. This place has "filtered" water that comes out lukewarm... from a little spout on top of the faucet... in a tiny bathroom. What? read more

Wow I am an avid yoga addict and was challenged here. Monica had a soothing voice and led a class with many options (beginner to challenging) for yoga participants of every level. I got a good workout in and felt really relaxed. The studio itself is adorable with stairs that lead up to the roof when it's warm! The lighting and temperature was adjusted throughout class to accentuate our movements and breath. I left feeling relaxed and also tighter all around. read more

I've been to Sky Ting many times and probably won't come back after yesterday's class. The second I came in, I heard the receptionists and teacher talking about a full class of 40. Then, the instructor says "I'm happy to give up my teacher mat as well to fit everyone in." I was baffled at this even before the class started, and hoped that some people would not show. I was wrong, everyone showed up, and they packed us in like legitimate sardines, with an inch of space between each mat. I had no choice to put my prop on my actual mat. I'm writing this in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. I had been to Sky Ting over the holidays (New York Pilates, where I'm a member, was closed for a few holidays) with a package of three classes and really enjoyed it. When New York Pilates closed in mid-March, I signed up for Sky Ting TV and have been doing classes from home. The variety is so good - some are very short classes, and most are around an hour. I have enjoyed every workout. Thank you Sky Ting for having developed the TV virtual classes - your classes are a godsend! read more

I am so happy checked this yoga studio out. I was traveling on business and dropped in, no problem. Nikki was a substitute for the class, and she was a pro. She blended athletic moves and some nice flow that was well conceived...along with some breath. All good. Check was easy and everything you need was provided. read more

Sky Ting Yoga has only been open for 1 week but it's well run and the space is so inviting. I'm so grateful for classpass since I would have never known about this studio otherwise. You check in on the 4th floor and walk upstairs to an airy room lit by large windows and a skylight for your practice. My class today was with Francesca, which may have been my favorite yoga class in the city. The vinyasas were slow since the focus was more on alignment and strength, while Francesca encouraged you to take your practice just a little bit deeper. It was challenging but in a very achievable way as she guided you through each step and made sure to warm up your body just enough to reach the next level. Since it was a 10am Monday class, there were only 3 people, which allowed for plenty of adjustments and individual attention. I've been practicing yoga on and off for about 15 years but I really felt like I improved my alignment and form in this class than in any other. Having spoken to Francesca and the other students in the class afterwards, it sounds like all of their instructors are top notch. The studio allows the instructors to have their own style so you get a wide variety. I can't wait to go back and take Francesca's class as well as trying out the other instructors. Well+Good noted that they will be working with Dimes to offer little bites in the lounging area starting next month. Finding out this fact just after writing a review on Dimes and hoping for a take out option feels almost too good to be true. I might just start living at this studio. read more

It's such a beautiful and clean studio! One of my favorites in the city for sure. Everyone was so friendly and nice. I had a great time taking a yoga class with Sophie. I'm still a beginner/newbie, and she helped correct my form multiple times thankfully without being condescending or impolite about it. I've heard great things about Krissy's classes so I'm excited to come back and try other classes/workshops! read more

I've never been consistent with any yoga practice in the past. But now I look forward to the time I spend at Sky Ting every Saturday morning. It is a serene space, with quality instruction and fun music. I also appreciate the adjustments, which isn't always possible in larger studios. I already notice the improvements in my flexibility and strength for certain poses since I first started here. I love this place. Great vibes--lovely people. It's super quick to get here from Brooklyn. I live in Dumbo and it's like 12 minutes by the F, or I can walk or bike over the Manhattan Bridge. read more
