Picked up a take out order that was $200 worth of food. Part of the order was four skewers of lamb which alone was $92. (I double checked the receipt.) When I opened the lamb container I thought that they included potatoes, and to my surprise it was chunks of fat! The restaurant was called and they said that this is how they serve it. On what planet I'd like to know? If they brought that to an eat-in table, it would have been immediately sent back. For $92 dollars half of the portion should not have been fat. Ridiculous. Some friends took us here for dinner as they love this restaurant but based on what I had I can't say the same although my wife enjoyed her food. We made reservations and were able to be seated on time. Due to heavy rains the outdoor seats were unavailable even under awning. I had a grilled chicken breast and didn't like whatever sauce they put on it however I must say the well done French Fries were a 10. The hummus was very good and my wife enjoyed her chicken breast skewer and took leftovers home for dinner the next night. Food quality is very good. Service very efficient. The ambiance not so nice. As you enter you'll see I think is the kitchen. Looks a little sloppy and unorganized. It is a little too pricy I think it's due to too much food. French fries was saggy and greasy. The sandwich content included a lot of stuff to a point that you can't eat the pita sandwich without utensils. I wish I had a choice not to order the French fries at least I was not offered. The Hummus Bar and Grill, is an Israeli restaurant in Tarzana that has an enticing menu. Different types of salads, kebabs, hummus, etc. There are several mouthwatering items. It is one place that always puts me in a conundrum, because there is so much here to order. Since about 6 months, they've been opening at 9 am, with an additional spread of breakfast selections. Yes, you can get the Israeli breakfast, as well a selection of numerous salads, if you are looking for something unique. Kind of a small tasting menu, if you will. I came here for lunch, to order my favorites. You have to start with small bites and I always gravitate towards the falafel. It comes with eight fresh and perfectly deep fried balls that are optimally crisped (and crunchy) on the outside, with a soft tasty green filling on the inside. That, with the accompanying tahini sauce, takes you to another place. Always consistent. Hard to come here without making a choice from the butchers section. I go for the middle eastern kabob (this time one skewer) that arrived just after it was grilled with good char, nice coloring, succulent and exploding with fragrance and taste. Each bite allowed you to taste the moist meat and its spices. For my sides, the mashed potatoes (with onions) had wonderful texture and mouthfeel. For the second side, my choice was the house hummus, good body, silky feel and a thick wholesome and smooth blend of its ingredients. It lubricates your tongue. That, when scooped up with pieces of fresh Laffa bread, really hits the spot. Service was attentive, thoughtful and informative. Need to come back often, to try more from the menu. IMHO, this could easily be the best Israeli restaurant in the Valley and to think of it, even in the Los Angeles area. read more

We were thoroughly disappointed with what we thought was gonna be a great dinner last night. Been to this place many times over the years, but something has changed. Started with the hummus that was tasty and good and then we ordered the salads which were very very mediocre. They've lost their punch of flavor that they used to have. Then we ordered our entrée's which all were just ok. Servers seemed to have lost their way here. We had to flag them down and they seemed miserable and lacked pleasant customer service. We usually leave feeling so satisfied; tonight was not satisfying at all. Our server seemed rushed. We asked if they had sweet potato fries. They do not. When we ordered our server never mentioned that the vegetables available were sweet potatoes and broccoli which we would have chosen over the mushy mashed potatoes that had no flavor and looked and tatsted like the old ore-Ida instant from the box (actually those were much better than what we were served tonight). The bread was soft and fluffy. It taste great with hummus. The bread was eaten quickly and had to order another one. It was not crowded when we first came in. Then it got super busy during the rush lunch hours. The restaurant has a nice decor. They have dining seating inside and outside. They have plenty of parking and underground. I just went to that very famous Israeli spot: it is not kosher, but it is so delicious! In the heart of Tarzana: you get the best Israeli flavors! I met my friend at 1:30 PM on Saturday and it was so crowded ; Patrons were all over the terrace outside, it was a pretty weather! We had to bottomless small Israeli salads accompanied by each hour meal : my friend had the grilled chicken breast skewer, and I had my regular Romanian Kebab. I always go to Hummus Bar & Grill when I come down to Los Angeles. Located in a small shopping center in Tarzana, this restaurant is a must visit if you're a Middle Eastern-food fanboy like myself! Hummus Bar & Grill makes some of the best hummus I've ever had. I still have no idea how they make it so good, but I wish I could replicate it myself! It's creamy, fresh, and flavorful. They've honestly perfected it! Be sure to dip some laffa bread into it. (I love how they immediately serve the table a giant laffa. Be sure to ask for it covered in Zaatar)! I always get a skewer of ribeye steak (where's my 'cooked medium' gang at?). It's absolutely incredible when dunked into some house-made chimichurri. Let's start with why I'm knocking off a star: I have eaten here multiple times and I keep ordering the same thing- chicken schnitzel in laffa. 1. The laffa is phenomenal and if anything you should get some for the table. 2. No matter how I tell them what I do or don't want in my laffa, they always get it wrong. There's gotta be a better way to take these orders! Perhaps a paper that the customer fills out and checks off which items to include? With that being said- the food is always very good and the fries are to die for. They have a kosher kitchen in the back so if you eat kosher, there's options for you, and if you don't, then have at it! I tend to go on Sunday afternoons and it's never too crowded. I enjoyed their freshly baked bread and the hummus. I would like to come back with my teenage children for them to try the food. When I checked-in on Yelp, it had a free dessert offer. We all (6 of us) checked in separately and were excited to try different desserts. Our waiter said we could only choose from the cheaper desserts, and then another server came and said we could only get one free dessert for the whole table. What? Delicious food, but service needs improvement! We had lunch at Hummus Bar & Grill yesterday, and our experience was mixed at the very best. I am unsure if I would return to the restaurant anymore unless I read that the service has improved. Located in Tarzana, this casual dining restaurant has both indoor and outdoor sitting. Parking is available both in front of the restaurant and in the underground parking garage. Inside the restaurant, there is a bar area and regular seating area. When we first arrived, I was blown away with the nice aroma of warm fresh bread from the oven. The place was crowded, and we were seated right away. We ordered the arugila/avocado salad as starter, and the wild mushroom knafe and foccacia sabich as entrees. While we got water right away, it took us 20 mins to get our complimentary bread. It then took another 20 mins for our salad to arrive. Our entrees came one hour after we placed our order, and we had to ask our server repeatedly before anyone knew what happened to our order. The food tasted good. The salad was fresh and flavorful. The wild mushroom knafe was delightful with delicate taste of sweet onions and mixed mushrooms. The foccacia tasted ok, as the hard-boiled eggs were overcooked and tasted somewhat rubbery. We were perplexed with the quality/lack of service. There were at least 5-6 waiters at the counter, but there were no assigned waiter for any table. No one came to refill our water or had any idea why it took 1 hour for our entrees to arrive. The strangest thing was we saw other patrons, who arrived later than us, received their orders much quicker than us. When we pressed the waiters on our missing orders, we were told, "I work in the bar area only." Wait staff seemed to be standing and chatting among themselves, but no one had ownership on the responsibilities of serving customers at tables. When we asked for our check, the staff comped us for the two entrees. While it was a nice gesture, I was unsure if I would feel comfortable bringing friends/families here again.
